  • A bus journey from Mysore to Ooty up in the Nilgiri mountains. Leaving the State of Karnataka and arriving in the State of Tamil Nadu. A much needed escape from the 37 degrees heat of Mysore. Arriving in Ooty at dusk and finding a wonderful energetic festival of light, drums and dancing. I suddenly felt alive and reenergised. I love India and it’s this that brings me back time after time. 🙏👍❤️

I think there’s always a festival going on somewhere in India all the time which I think is great. I love the Hindu faith.
Thanks for the comment mate. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙏👍
April 1 and April 2 - Sheetala Saptami and Sheetala Ashtami: It is celebrated on the seventh and eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra, and typically falls a week after the festival of Holi. Maa Sheetala is worshipped by devotees to ward off heat-borne diseases, such as smallpox, and also for success and prosperity.

In 1819, a British collector by the name of John Sullivan, who was then in charge of the Coimbatore district, came across the Ooty plateau while on a hunting expedition. Impressed by the natural beauty of the area, he decided to build a house there and make it a summer resort for the British
The history of Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, dates back to the early 19th century when it was discovered by the British. The area was originally inhabited by various indigenous tribes, including the Todas, Kotas, and Kurumbas. The British, who were looking for a summer retreat to escape the heat and humidity of the coastal plains, were attracted to the cool and pleasant climate of the Nilgiri Hills, where Ooty is located.
