Chris and Maryanne...sorry my spelling may not be accurate. Since you already are in India...maybe you can drive to Pakistan next.
In the northern part of Pakistan, three mountain ranges converge and there are many beautiful valleys, lakes, glaciers, etc. And from the northern border with China, central Asian countries are within a days drive. Maybe there's a special visa just to drive from that border to a central Asian country!
Also central Pakistan, such as, city of Lahore has a lot of Mughal history and architecture. Near Rawalpindi are old ruins of Harappa with Buddhist stupas, etc.
I think you might enjoy the country's diversity and hospitality.

Got my wallets stolen not once but twice in Italy and also once in Spain, literally no other countries i have ever had this issue with, not a single country in Asia (Including India). Even in Ghana and Nigeria i was warned by the locals beforehand multiple times, so i complied with their advice, in Italy and Spain you are open target and issued no such warnings and locals could care less if you get robbed in broad-daylight they'll go on with their day usual, it's only contributing to their declining economies.
