    MM1: the humble original
    MM2: the certified hood classic
    MM3: the ambitions sequel
    MM4: the refined classic
    MM5: the fifth entry
    MM6: the NES last swan song
    And yes, MM5 is indeed one of the Megaman game, it exists very well

    Sorry but MM5 OST was flipping amazing, this was my first Megaman game and compared this soundtrack to.........virtually everything on the NES was leaps above all with only a few exceptions came to mind that beat this. I never have understand why people put this game down so much, in my opinion is a really good game, I have a blast playing this and was my introduction to one of my favorites videogame franchises ever.

    MM5 was the first Mega Man game I ever owned. I've played 2 and 3 previously as rentals, but this one...this one was mine lol. I find it to need a bit more challenge, even back then when I was single digits, but I thoroughly enjoyed the music and robot masters. Oh, and don't you worry, I've always likened Dark Man 3 to Vile! Very similar!

    After 3 and 4 I was a little disappointed that they tried to bait & switch players again. They could have made it seem like Proto was working for Wily. Play up the idea that Wily has still been trying to beat Mega Man since episode 2. Unfortunately they did the same thing as in 4, and unlike that one I wasn’t surprised 😞
    Still worth playing! Not my favourite of the original six but a good one. I think this was the last NES title I ever rented before getting my SNES so it does has nostalgia for me. I found that Beat was basically a way to cheese the last battle. Only power I found lame was Charge Man’s although I did like his design. Much prefer Nitro or Gyro
    Didn’t mean to rant, so I’ll end it with thanks! Can’t wait for more Mega goodness

    The only thing that stands out about Mega Man 5 for me is Wave Man's JET SKI stage - which I found to be a big change in the formula, but decently executed.
    Otherwise, Gravity Man's gravity reversing battle was the only other thing I can point to to remind me this game exists.
    In comparison, Mega Man 3 and 4 had far better music - many more memorable characters and then 6 gave you a jetpack.
    I still feel the best executed game was Mega Man 2 - followed by Mega Man 9 and 10.
    Mega Man 1 stands on its own and is radically different than the newer games in difficulty.

    So I just finished MM5 off the Legacy Collection and I really enjoyed it. I definitely hear what you're saying about not being visually innovative, and from a gameplay mechanic perspective nothing that reinvents the wheel- super duper charging your mega cannon is about as bold as they get. But the gravity level might be my favorite level from the first five games, and while I think this is the easiest of of those five games, that didn't bother me. Just less frustration on my way to finishing the game.

    • @MeguhFan

      Oh yeah, the gravity level is amazing. Looking back, I do really like this game. It's not unique, and it's too easy, but it's still really fun, and a great game for someone to play if they're totally new to Mega Man.

    8:20 also when gravity is flipped you can hold UP + A to slide which was a nice touch
    13:30 if you use charge kick while frozen (so sliding while using charge) you are immune from his contact damage and you damage him. Was a cool feature that when we found that out as a kid was so amazing.

    My reviews for all the Robot Masters. These bosses aren't worth talking about that much. I also should mention that scores aren't accurate, they rounded in 0.5 factors.
    1. Gravity Man: Gravity Man has a nice rhythm to it but ultimately feels underwhelming. He lacks any sort of a telegraphs. He is very annoying to hit as well. And Star Crash is an underwhelming weakness, I would make Crystal Eye the weakness. 6/10
    2. Wave Man: Wave! Arrow! Jump! That's it. Wave comes out of nowhere. His arrow has no telegraphs and it is sometimes awkward to jump under him. And his sprite was so underwhelming for a Poseidon! And Charge Kick. Why? 2.5/10
    3. Stone Man: Stone Man is basically a faster Toad Man. That's only good thing about him. His sprite is bad and I mean very bad. His shakes the screen but doesn't stun us and why on earth does he crumbles. And just like Toad Man, weakness would have been okay if he wasn't so easy so giving a score their is an insult. 1.5/10
    4. Gyro Man: Gyro Man is one of the better fights albeit still easy. His Gyro Attack should've been faster. The main attraction is how he flies off screen and then lands on top of you. That attack alone makes him better than most RMs in this game. His sprite is ugly though and I dont screen nukes as a weakness. 7/10
    5. Star Man: Star Man has by far the worst presentation of any Robot Master ever. His sprite is ugly, his hitboxes are garbage, his fight is nothing to do with stars and I can go on. His attacks does have nice rhythm but they get old very fast. At least the weakness is nice. 1.5/10
    6. Charge Man: Charge Man has a stupid design but his fight makes up for it. He actually telegraphs what to do. His AI is very difficult to lock in a pattern which is good. His smoke attack decend slow enough to be seen properly but also pose a challenge. I also love how he turns red. My only gripe is the weakness. It's the stupid Power Stone, one of the worst weapons ever made. Come to think of it this game has very bad weakness tables. 7/10
    7. Napalm Man: Napalm Man was once a candidate for my favourite RM in the game but I have lost respect for him ever since. He is very disappointing, even more so than Gravity Man. At least there you get what you are promised albeit in a screwed up manner but here you don't even get the formality. Napalm Man throws missiles at when you are far and if you are near, he will throw Napalm Bombs. He could have had so much more. He has shoulder pads and he never use them. He has wheels and never use them as well. And the weakness is so unsatisfactory to use. I have to give some points to his sprite though. 3/10
    8. Crystal Man: Crystal Man has a good bossfight up until you know he has an exploitable AI and it happens very soon. Basically if you fight him normally, he will keep firing Crystal Eyes which are very fun dodge. But if you keep calm and keep shooting him, he will jump again and again with occasionally firing Crystal Shots which also have too much telegraphs. I do appreciate how in a game with charged shots, there is a fight better suited for normal lemons but even then, he does nothing if you do it. I have mixed feelings about Gyro Attack though. It does compliments his jumping pattern but it hinders sliding ability. His score is pretty much carried out by his design. 3/10

    • @MeguhFan
      @MeguhFan  10 месяцев назад +1

      Personally, I'm a bigger fan of Charge Man and Gravity Man. I think the gimmick of Gravity Man's fight is amazing (especially if you consider when this game came out), and Charge Man has one of my favorite designs.

  • @PassportBrosBusinessClass
    @PassportBrosBusinessClass Год назад

    AUTOFIRING the Megabuster is more efficient than charging shots. A charged shot may do 4 damage but it takes a second to charge it and must be timed carefully.
    Autofiring fires 6 shots per second, but fires even more if the distance between you and the enemy is reduced.

    • @CosmicCosmo1
      @CosmicCosmo1 Год назад +2

      @MegaFan Agreed. Elecman's track alone is definitely a top 5 megaman track but the quantity of bangers in 2/3 certainly elevate them to the top of the scale. I probably have the osts ordered this way from best to worst: 2,3,1,4,6,5. But they would all be S/A tiers except for 5 which is a C to me. If you ever play the gameboy MM games I'd say 5 is more equal to those 2nd rate sound tracks.

    I barely used any robot master weapons in this game. The Megabuster was KILLING THEM EASY.

    I didn't finish this game until I was an adult so I'll never have the nostalgia goggles for it that I have for 2, 3, 4, and 6. It's a solid game, if I played it as a kid, I'd probably forget it compared to the others. The Wily fight is a joke with super arrow and Beat, about the only music I'll remember from this game is the stage select screen's music, and the level design just isn't that memorable. Sure Gravity Man's stage is fun for it's reverse gravity gimmick, but it's just a gimmick at the end of the day. It's not like I had to do disappearing blocks while upside down on it and it didn't come back in either of the castles so it was an opportunity wasted IMO. Boss weapons are the weakest in the series IMO too (not because of the stronger than normal Mega Buster, Super Arrow or Beat).
    It's a good gateway into the original six IMO. Good for new players to see and experience the core mechanics of a Mega Man game and beating this game will prepare them for the tougher challenges in the other games.

    I was however able to activate Beat on Mega Man 6 in a process I liked more: beating hidden bosses.
    Beat is a BEAST in Mega Man 9 and 10 because if you get knocked off a ledge into a pit, he comes and picks you up before you die. When I first saw that I was SHOCKED and quite satisfied with Beat's helpfulness.

    15:09 I think this might be the only clip insert within the whole video? Felt kind of jarring and I'm not sure it added too much myself, given that it wasn't really funny, or motivational, and with the overall more sober and informative style of the review it clashed, personally.
    16:41 maybe one of this or the last line could've been cut, I think they're only a word's difference
    Aside from these two minor nitpicks, I thought it was a good review, one you certainly had to stick around to the end for in order to get the full clarification of the insignificance of the game's issues, but with ample individual time to elucidate your thoughts on individual topics before tying them all together at the end, I don't think there was particularly much filler here, which is weird since everything was generic, but I think you managed to convince me that a lot of individual things are generic on their own rights.

    Things people don't like in Mega Man 5 101: Rush and Yoku Blocks.
    I know everyone says that MM5s charge shot is OP but I feel getting hit and losing the charge shot and not having it charge while sliding is often overlooked. Mega Man 4's charge shot is more OP in the world of hacks, that I will say. If you couldn't keep your charge in Luckyman 1-5 after getting hit you would probably never beat a single boss if you are an average mega man player (which is different than an average gamer[worse])
    Ohhhhh, this is the first hard disagree we've had in a while I think. Crystal Man's stage is the highlight of the game, but, it's not as great looking as Gemini Man's stage which has the same aesthetic appeal, same with Flash. Crystal Man's stage is great but if you want to consider it rehash as far as a critique, I get it. But the stage overall is one of the better ones.
    MM5's overall look and enemy designs aren't good, either. Music is the most bland to me, when the credits theme is the best song, there is a problem. The songs "fit", wave's theme is perfect for it, but as far as jams, it's not there, for me, nearly as much. The bosses are lazy there's like 3 different charge man fights because of the dark robot bosses, not including refights, though one of them shoots at you when you hit it, and that's a cool idea, but dark 2 is the same thing but easier except it gets faster as it goes. It's just, not good proto level bosses at all. I'd almost rather have the doc robots rehast mm2 bosses again. Big Pet's is one of the coolest ideas for a boss fight, ever tbh.
    Mega Man 5 has some of the highest highs and also some of the most boring and generic feeling lows. Replay value for finding the letters is something I might underrate. Proto 4 is a cool stage concept.
    Also, yes, that is something that is often missed by a lot of people, that Dark 3 and Vile are very similar in design. There's likely a reason for it but I don't want to spoil plot, but you DID say you have played mmx2, so go back and look into that I'd say ;) Also the reason why it matters if he freezes you or not is I think contact damage does a different amount than his bullets if he shoots you. So it's a means to freeze you so it can get contact damage.
    Gravity is the best stage in the game. Wave is the worst, the jetski section is a bore and the majority of the stage is just waiting, unless you have charge kick to use. Stage was clearly designed around having to use charge kick in the first half of it, I don't recall many stages other than like some mm1 stages (Fire and Elec) where the stage was clearly designed around having a weapon. I will agree that the squid midboss is the highlight maybe even of the entire game outside of Gravity. I agree Charge is a great set piece for the game as well. Star Man's stage is really good too, but it proves they could have let you jump out of slide in water because you can do it in low gravity.
    Same story as last time, fast forward a year. I'm 6 and I get Mega Man 5 when it comes out and I beat the game the first 2 days I played it. Compared to the year before when I was 5, the staggering difference between the difficulty for a child was there. Me and my 2 older siblings couldn't beat A BOSS in 2 days, I by myself at the age of 6 beat it in 2 days. There wasn't enough difference feeling in the game to make it more of a challenge, even at the age of 6.
    As I said, mm5 Dr. Wily didn't plan on Mega Man beating Dark 4, so that is why the end of this game is the way it is. Wily is able to escape because mega man had to save Dr. Light, basically. In mm4 he was ready to lose so he had an escape route in mind at the end.

    • @MeguhFan
      @MeguhFan  Год назад

      Hmmm, when I get to x2 I keep an eye out for any Dark Man/Vile connections. That really is interesting lore about Wily having an escape in mind at the end of mm4.

    Mega Man 5 is a good game but not a good Mega Man game. This game is a good example of "Polish doesn't make a game good" because this game has insane attention to details and incredible amount of Polish for example revisiting a stage skips the Robot Master introduction. But the development got so carried away by details that forgot to make game good.
    Enemies and Bosses seem lifeless, Charged buster breaks the game and weapons still suck. If someone decides to play it without using the buster, it would actually make the game seem worse because players can actually highlight this game's mistake.
    On the plus side this game is gorgeous and it is a very good game for beginners if someone is getting into Mega Man and doesn't care about the story. And the music is great. 4.8/10
    Edit: I think you should know I am not accounting the game's story for scores.

      Personally, I like Mega Man 5, more that 4 Just because of the music. I always felt Mega Man 4's music was rushed as none of the tracks are more that 40 seconds long on their first loop. This game goes for more atmospheric OST combined with Mega Man soundfont. My favourite Music of all time is Napalm Man's music.

      Yeah, to me the biggest blunder in this game is the charged up buster. It's too powerful, and it it goes through enemies it kills, and the shot his huge on the screen, so you can just destroy tons of enemies quickly with it.

    you know what the charged shot and the super mega buster being "overpowered" is a stupid complaint and it's dumb that people are actually complaining about that. i wish i could slide and had the new super mega buster in mega man two and three. it definitely would have helped a lot and made the game easier that's for sure. but unfortunately you can't charge the charged shot because they don't give you the "super mega buster" until the beginning of mega man four. and you also can't slide or use mega man's mega dog rush until mega man three. the first two games are easy so you don't really need those things but i still think that the mega dog rush should have been introduced in the second game introducing him in mega man three doesn't make any sense. but anyway moving on i actually like "the new super mega buster." it's cool and if anything by giving mega man a more powerful blaster it makes the game "more balanced" because not only does it make the fights with the robot masters in mega man 4 and 5 more even and he's able to hold his own more against them but at the same time it also gives mega man a slight upper hand and advantage by giving him "a more powerful blaster." so i very strongly disagree with those comments on the internet and youtube that the new blaster "breaks the game" and makes it "unbalanced" and that the super mega buster is overpowered. actually i like the "new mega buster" and don't think that it's overpowered at all.

      Some people like the charged blast in this game, and there are some valid reasons to like it in this game.
      Reflecting, I wish I had explained my feelings more clearly. I do like the way the charged shot feels against the robot masters. Specifically, in my opinion (no offense taken if people disagree), I think the charged shot effects the balancing of the game regarding the lower level enemies. A lot of the challenge and nuance to getting past the lower level enemies is lost because the charged up blast not only deals a huge amount of damage, but it is huge and also blasts through multiple enemies at once. One charged blast, not even well placed due to its size, can wipe all the enemies of the screen. That's my complete feelings regarding the charged blast. Thanks for the comment!

      @@MeguhFan i'm confused here so you're saying the new super mega buster makes the game to easy and because of the more powerful mega buster the low level enemy's aren't a challenge. actually i perfer easier games to harder one's myself but that's just me usually if a game is harder i won't like it as much. with super mario brothers and the legend of Zelda grand theft auto and the call of duty games being the exception to that those games i don't mind being hard or a challenge but most of the time i like and perfer the easier game. i did used to have super mario world a long time ago with that game it was the reverse and the opposite with me i liked super mario world and it was a good game but it was way too easy no challenge at all. super mario brothers 3 is the better game.

      @@coreynance3874 I guess, with old school mega man, I want the game on the harder side. On a scale of 0 being Kirby (super easy) to 10 being Contra ( or whatever game you think is super difficult), I prefer an old school mega man game to be in the 6ish range.
      To each their own, and it's all good if people love Mega Man 5. I just appreciate the comments and discussion.

      @@MeguhFan yeah i remember mega man 2 and i think fanman was the weakest and the easiest to beat in that game really all you had to do to beat him was after shooting him jump a couple of times to avoid the wind or his mini tornadoes and you're good and you're golden. in mega man one i think gutsman and bomberman were the two weakest robots in that game i can't remember what gutsman's power or blaster is but i do remember to beat Bomberman all you had to do was shoot and jump to avoid his bombs and that's it. Gutsman and Bomberman were both extremely weak in the first game especially Bomberman but the first couple of games were still very good and entertaining. some games might be better than other one's but i don't think there ever was a bad mega man game on the nes the Nintendo entertainment system. if you've played the game's then one thing you "noticed" some robots like Toadman Bomberman and Gutsman aren't hard to beat at all. all you have to do to beat them is shoot them and also jump a couple of times to avoid getting shot by their Lazer gun/blaster then you're golden.

Hell in the cartoon mega man beats them both with one blasts from his mega buster making Gutsman and Cutman even weaker.

    It's a great game, but an average Megaman game. A lot of people seem to complain about design issues in Megaman 2 and 3, but at least these game had amazing ideas and creative level design, while Megaman 5, even though it has less flaws, it's way more generic

      @MeguhFan  Год назад

      I think so. The legacy collection (which contains Mega Man 5) is out on PS4, and I think it's playable on PS5. Here's what the Playstation Store website says:
      Platform:
      PS4
      Release:
      8/24/2015
      Publisher:
      Capcom U.S.A., Inc.
      Genre:
      Action, Action
      To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

    With all due respect I feel that you use the word generic way too much just like that dude from a Princess Bride uses the term inconceivable like you might want to change up your vocabulary a little bit also I do know how hard it is to do a review and such but at the same time you might want to do a little homework on some of the stages because the Napalm stage is very much based off the grounds from Vietnam War so much to the point where they did ban Mega Man 5 from Vietnam... there was some inspiration the rest of the review I can agree with you and such but yeah I do not mean to come off rude or anything that's not the reason why I'm writing I'm just noticing some of these things
