Friday nights with my friends playing Barbuta was the best! My mom would make us homemade pizza after school, and we would play until we fell asleep trying to beat it.
I love games like this (small, mechanically consistent but simple) for speedrunning, the level of optimization possible is insane. it's a special thing
I hadn’t looked up anyone else’s runs, thinking maybe I had the record for a short time, but then come here and see you have me beat on the cherry by 1 second haha. Great job! I’m going to try that slime room tech from your other video. One more potential time save on a gold run would be hoping a bat is near your pendant chest, and killing yourself in order to skip that first ladder
I just realized that Sylvie was the one playing this!! I just happened to watch the video a few days back and was like, "oh that's a fun speedrun!" And then I watched the guided tour video separately, knowing it was Sylvie, but I just put two and two together on this one! Wonderful job as always!
Computer & Video Games magazine hyped Barbuta to no end when it came out, and I remember all of my friends really wanting to try it when I showed the article to them, but an LX was four hundred freaking dollars back in 1982 so nobody I knew had one.
There's another room in the game with "B A" at the top instead of "A B". This room has the same ladder layout but flipped horizontally. It also has extra walls that enforce a unique path from the top ladder to the lower entrance. Take this path, flip it horizontally and that gives you the path you need to take through the "A B" room.
@asdf2593 it feels like the game was designed to be horrible to play. No music. Awful jumping awkward puzzles. Designed to make quitters quit and make the people who continue feel validated
This game was my childhood glad to see people are still playing it 40 years later
You're lucky I wanted an LX really bad but it cost a fortune in my country.
lol
I love the idea of people engaging in lore akin to all those Peter Pubes ai songs. This is wholesome idiosyncratic engagement at its finest!
Can't wait for this joke to be recycled over and over for each game
This and the gwimbly games were my childhood!!
Videogame Dunkey got me wondering what a Barbuta speed run looks like and now I know.
This felt a lot longer then 5 minutes
insane to see this. it took me months to beat this back when it came out in early 82
Mans has only played barbuta and nothing else yet. Such dedication!

I mean seriously
Why not do this now? What's stopping you? Call your mother
Bruh come on with these fake comments, there’s no way your friends at pizza… smh

Very happy to see a video game type video game on my feed. May you run fast and with greatly much speed

Ah, Barbuta... that really takes me back. To think this janky game would be the start of IFO's incredible yet short-lived gaming supremecy.
whaaat? The slime pit at 1.23! I never knew
I read about it in a UFO power magazine back in the 80’s but wouldnt have noticed otherwise
i mean AVGNs joke about it became a huge meme a short while but okay i guess
notice the slime isn't jiggling like the other pools
this isnt 6 hours long...
The ending is hilarious.
If I was a parent, those sound fx would make me hate videogames
I found Barbuta at a local game store and the memories came flooding back. I played it with Jason! Anyone else?
Jason, I remember that name he killed my wife, and wore a deformed knights helmet and said he hatched from an egg when he did it. Many such cases.
A good one. I got the umbrella and wasted time.
A speedrun that looks easy but is not 😊 guess this is gonna take me some time
I definitely read the title wrong as "almost 5 hours" and thought the Dunkey joke was real.
To be fair you have to have a very high iq to understand barbuta
Remember when they announced Barbuta 2 as a launch title for the PS1 at E3 1994?
More like speedwalk
Good looks brother

I just got a cherry disc on this game, so satisfying, anyone have a clue what the trash does?
apparently nothing
it's just there for completion
@@ace0135 lol amazing
i never finished watching this video because i might have puked
Pardon me, whats the logic behind the A B ladders?
There's another room in the game with "B A" at the top instead of "A B". This room has the same ladder layout but flipped horizontally. It also has extra walls that enforce a unique path from the top ladder to the lower entrance. Take this path, flip it horizontally and that gives you the path you need to take through the "A B" room.
that's actually genius
it stands for Absolute Bullshit

man im so happy my dad hoarded videogames!
Have you beat Mortol 2 yet?
derek yu is the best game DEV of all time cuz he knows how to recreate shitty games from 40 years ago!!!!! fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still don't get how the AB show what ladders you are supposed to use.
As a chils i never new i couls jump in that swamp back than in 1982 (i am born in 2000)
it says speed run but why he walk slow
What's the point of the necklace? And how do you know which ladders to go up and down?
When you play the game, you know ;)
