This run uses the fastest strategies I know, and I did not make any significant mistakes. Getting better final boss RNG is the main way I'm aware of to improve on this run. I might just leave it up to other people to try that....
There are a surprising number of subtleties in this speedrun route. The main thing to understand is that the platforms run on a global cycle, which starts when you pick up the necklace. If you are fast enough, you can get the platform cycle shown in this video. If you are not fast enough, you will get a slower cycle that wastes 4-5 seconds or so.
There are a number of specific strategies I use to ensure that I get the fast platform cycle:

This is the first arcade shmup I cleared in a long time. It was difficult. Played on MAME 0.261. Apparently MAME doesn't emulate the slowdown accurately, but what I read is that there's actually *more* slowdown on the PCB, which is somewhat shocking.
