Fantastic idea! What I found most interesting is that the bulk of the kits sounded really useable when I wasn't sure which module they were, so we definitely all have biases going in. I only got 5/6 of them right 😂 2Box, 50X, ATV ad5, Pearl Mimic Pro (though I second guessed myself), DTX10 and EFNOTE (but I guessed the 5). Most of those I've either played or seen a lot of the videos though. Great video, was fun!
I'm finding it interesting how distinct they all sound from each other. All the edrum companies are just sampling the same Zildjian/Sabian cymbals, and the same famous snares. But they somehow still have a completely different feel. This video is a complete experiment. I'm interested to see how many people like this, and how many just feel lost lol
I think the Simmons SDS-9 was the most obvious, but most of those I got right because I remember what was played on the company demo video, like the DTX10 with Larnel.
I got a lot of them wrong, I have to admit 😅. I thought the TD50 KV2 was Superior Drummer 3 and I felt embarrassed when I found out. The TD30 was an easy guess, though, because I play a TD11 and I am so used to those sounds. Surprisingly, I was disappointed that the Mimic didn't sound better, I thought it was something cheaper, maybe a bit of personal preference or the fact that I don't like the cymbals on it. Cymbals make so much difference to the apparent quality of the whole sound.
Alesis was the easiest imo. Roland was pretty obvious :) and yamaha's signature sound was relatively easy to find too. Then, of course, the pearle mimic pro nailed the sound realisme. But the 2Box Drummit 5, the efnote kit (3X), the kat percussion, the simmons drumset and the ATV AD5 were totally unexpected. I have yet to train my ears.........
Great video! Subscribed to your channel, love your work, damn helpful. Hardly got any of them right, but in my opinion they all sound pretty good (thumbs up for the KAT drums, those toms sound deep). Owned a TD-8, then a TD-3 (kept this module) and also a TD-6, played several Yamaha DTX in the past, love the Yamaha DTX-10 currently, but way out of range for me. Keep it up, your videos are very interesting from a tutorial point of view and it's not easy to come up with content on electronic drums constantly, but you are doing a great job. Let's push your channel to 100 k subscribers!
I only got 4 of them but it was really fun i'd love to see this as a recurring series like maybe do strike pads next or other electronic percussion like Roland TAIKO-1. the ones i got right were Alesis strike pro Roland TD30KV Roland TD50KV2 Yamaha DTX10
Have you thought about testing the Millenium MPS-1000 kit? The samples on the module don't seem very great but I'm interested in getting one and just using GetGoodDrums in my DAW. I really like this kit because of the real wood shell aspect but I'd be curious on your opinion of the triggers and their response.
Thank you so much! This helped greatly with getting rid of the prejudice and bias one has. Man, that new Yamaha set has some sound quality. I liked that one so much more than all the others. Had not known that before this video. Now it is a fact. A bankrupting fact.. :P
Got quasi all of them except the Yamaha DTX10 serie, very impressive and i didn't know it !!! I think the easier way is to focus on the cymbal sound witch had the bigger evolution in time.. the latest modules (mimic, ef note, DTX10) have a more realistic sound !!!
Hello Justin. I just bought the td 17 kvx. Before I hade the td 11k and this was a huge upgrade. But that's is one thing with the PDX 12 pad that I don't like. I need to hit near the trigger to make it react good. With the PDX 8 I didn't have that problem. It is kind of irritating and you said there's no soft spotting so would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks beforehand. Love ur channel!
Wow! Awesome video! Did not watch blurred so I could not recognize. Recognized 5. Thanks to your videos I am building an A2E. Was going to use a Roland module but not so sure anymore. Always said they had best sounding cymbals, & they do. I was looking for the most realistic sounding acoustic kit. Hands down it was the new Yamaha dtx10(& I'm not a yammi guy till now). Unlike others I picked the mimic pro 2nd. The biggest SHOCKER to me was the KT4. Wow! As a Roland guy the td50 sample was weak to begin with. Thnx for possibly changing my plans.lol. Your videos are awesome & helpful but this may be the best yet. Thnx.
One thing I'd love to see is you being blindfolded and you trying to guess the drum set by feel alone. And as a lifeline, then you'd be able to hear the drums sound
Justin, I really enjoyed this. I didn't get most of them, aZ I am fairly new (6 months) to the electronic drum world. I just purchased my Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit back in April. In that time, you have taught me an awful lot about electronic drums. Thank you for that. Your opinion about has become my go to in the world of e drums!😆☕🥁🥁🥁
Cool idea! I enjoyed it.I got one Roland, the Alesis, Simmons and one Yamaha. I don't recall seeing the EfNote 3x one which is weird as that no1 on my radar. Waiting for round two mate.
Man, am I the only one who thought the KAT Percussion one sounded much better than expected? My other big take way is that we go back and forth between which sounds the most "realistic" when most of the time that's not what we really want. Okay, maybe some people want really dry, natural sounding drums - but most drums we hear in popular music are heavily processed and not "realistic" sounding at all by post-production. The fact is, any decent drum module sold today can sound reasonably close t produced music, in my opinion. Maybe not good enough to record with, but certainly good enough to practice with, and good enough that we should be focusing on our drumming more than we obsess about sound quality.
Hi Justin😁✌ always a joy to see your uploads. I gotta tell you. The Yamaha drums surprised me in this video. Of course the Mimic was recognizable. However I failed to recognize my TD30. Whaaaat??? How can that 🐝? I've heard those sounds raw from Roland to my modified versions of.... Whoop!! Flew right by me. Honestly, im moving to PC midi based platform using my TD30&20 midi I/O.
I was feeling pretty cocky with getting them all correct... Until I got to the KAT KT4, really thought that was the G9. I got the rest correct until the EfNote one... I wasn't sure which one was that, before th reveal kinda thought it might have been a VAD something or other.
i got ; 1 yamaha 2 Alesis 3 Roland 4 millenium 5 alesis again 6 Pearl (i thought of the very bright sounds of the old pearl module on the pearl e pro live) 7 ddrums dd1 8 ATV ;( 9 ATV again ;( 10 Yamaha 11 Gewa I got 2/11 and i played electronic drums since 8 Years XD
I got them All Wrong except the Alesis strike pro I thought was the DK10. Alesis sounds are the same anyway. Like cardboard boxes. Roland CAD50 was a great eye opener as well as Yamaha and Pearl. Wish they where affordable. Still a nice video. Make another please.
I always knew what was Roland they always have their commercials in open rooms where like almost no electronic drummer would have any use most of us are looking for some quiet and fun alternative to practice in a corner
Only one I got was Roland as I play one ! I wouldn’t have had a clue what the others were and that’s my honest opinion.. I’m playing my Roland through through Jobeky triggers in a converted premier elite kit and to my ears it sound better than it ever did as standard Roland td 30 🤔 that’s just my opinion
@@66meikou thanks man yes sure is I retired it and felt sorry for it in the cases so I converted it lol, I just bought a British drum company lounge se kit in natural old yew wood to play out with a merlin snare and gotta say I’m pretty impressed with that to …should see me out now as I’m getting on a bit lol 😉👍
To me, kits 3, 8 and 9 were the only ones that had good cymbal sounds. All the others instantly turned me off as the articulation and tone of the cymbals just wasn't there for me. Up until this point, I thought Roland was the only company that could truly pull off electronic cymbals but I have to say I was pretty impressed with that new Yamaha kit. Helps that Larnell Lewis's playing is so immaculate too though!
This was super fun Not exactly easy but I got most of them right Although after a couple of seconds listening I always second-guess myself But it ended up being my intuition that was right most of the time I didn’t guess the Yamaha one but I think I got all the others eventually after debating in my head Oh yeah and the first one I actually thought it was a Yamaha Definitely make a part two this that would be cool
The thing that very much surprised me was how terrible the mimic sounded when bias was removed. May have been a triggering issue but that hihat, ew thats robotic
after listening to different companies side by side i've realised something ....PEARL needs to gtfo of the e drums game ...lol even the simmons sounded better ...i think the mimic pro was a fluke ...i hope yamahas mesh head alternative takes off , because i absolutely hate mesh heads .lol all inall this was an awesome vid :) it was fun .little suggestion ...no repeating brands...i got tripped up , when yamaha showed up twice lol...still cool idea

I got most right, but have never heard of efnote before
I think the Simmons SDS-9 was the most obvious, but most of those I got right because I remember what was played on the company demo video, like the DTX10 with Larnel.
I don't think I could have guessed it. There's a few different Simmons modules/brains that sound pretty similiar from the 80s
This blind test really just proves how good edrums have gotten over the years. Loved it!
Agreed JD
Really enjoyed the cymbal sounds on the new Yamaha, and the Efnote 3x. Great stuff.
I got a few. Alesis, Roland TD-50, Simmons, the new Yamaha, and ATV. The Kat kit really through me off and actually impressed me.

I picked out the ad5 but was surprised by the strike and the Roland

Such a fun video concept Justin! Thanks for getting the EFNOTE 3X in there!
#3 sounded the best to me :)

I recognized Simmons purely because it's so old and Yamaha DTX10 because I heard it recently. Others I was completely lost.

As soon as I heard the British accent, I said "Simmons!". LOL.

i got ;
1 yamaha
2 Alesis
3 Roland
4 millenium
5 alesis again
6 Pearl (i thought of the very bright sounds of the old pearl module on the pearl e pro live)
7 ddrums dd1
8 ATV ;(
9 ATV again ;(
10 Yamaha
11 Gewa
I got 2/11 and i played electronic drums since 8 Years XD
I got them
All

The only one I really identify is the Simmons SDS-9 because I used to have one long time ago, is a 1986 drum kit.
Maybe throw in some VST sounds next time to make it extra harder :D
Oh I could have made this video way harder, but didn't want to take the fun out of it for the newer edrummers
1 thing I have no doubt about is they all no doubt use ezdrummer for the sounds and not much for the built in ones..
I always knew what was Roland they always have their commercials in open rooms where like almost no electronic drummer would have any use most of us are looking for some quiet and fun alternative to practice in a corner
I picked out the mimic and 2box, but only because I own them. Haven't played the others.
Sounds like a lovely Brit kit mate.

I enjoyed the video but my closest guess was the Simmons being 'some set from the eighties'.
if this would be official videos to make a decision I would take the Alesis or the Pearl.......
I only got 3; Alesis, Roland and Simmons - pretty pleased with my poor score 😁
I only got correct the alesis, roland, atv and yamaha. the rest i wasn't expecting them
I only got one. Fun stuff.
Well, I got #5 right but I use SSD5.5 so I think that's why lol.

I didn’t guess the Yamaha one but I think I got all the others eventually after debating in my head
Oh yeah and the first one I actually thought it was a Yamaha
Definitely make a part two this that would be cool
ATV 😎
I got the Roland and the Pearl only...I suck 😁
im suprised i did got 4 i was sure its gonna be 0. rolands, atv and the grandpa drum kit.
That was fun
HA! Got one right.
The thing that very much surprised me was how terrible the mimic sounded when bias was removed. May have been a triggering issue but that hihat, ew thats robotic
I got brands correct but not model numbers or names. However! I didn't get many correct. Waa waa!
I have nothing against Alesis, but it sounds really bad ( before seeing it was Alesis )
Literally 0!
after listening to different companies side by side i've realised something ....PEARL needs to gtfo of the e drums game ...lol even the simmons sounded better ...i think the mimic pro was a fluke ...i hope yamahas mesh head alternative takes off , because i absolutely hate mesh heads .lol
all inall this was an awesome vid :) it was fun .little suggestion ...no repeating brands...i got tripped up , when yamaha showed up twice lol...still cool idea
You never compare product with video, all is misleading.
My score: 0 :(
