I purchased one of these kits this time a year ago, I did read the manuals as it didn't feel right, just as you described, you are very informative and honest, great guy. Awesome skills to boot!
I have been trying to find a decent e-kit for a reasonable price without it looking like a bunch of rubber saucers attached to a bent flag pole. I came across this kit in my adventure through the internet trying to find good comprehensive reviews from actual people. Not just a random blog where the person just suggests 4 different Roland kits and says good enough. A lot of the reviews I was finding were all mentioning the exact issues you've seemed to have solved here in real time in your video. With that being said, you've sold me on this kit. Thank you for showing these fixes in real time and taking the time to go so in depth while keeping the video under 10min. You have earned my subscription, and I am happy to leave a like. As a beginner I feel like this is a really good kit to get, as I am a rather big guy and would prefer the acoustic style over the more compact majority out there on the market.
Yeahh! I am quite suprised, that it even got these settings... So you are done! Very nice! Yap the things listen to the buid in detector - called piezos, which generate a voltage when bended. The module is scanning the incomming voltage and tries to detect the peaks that occure when you hit the mesh heads. Unfortunately there something like xtalk between pads and retriggers because vibrations of the rack, or doubletriggers because after one hit the module detects the second peak of the detected waveform. Therefore the settings xtalk and retrigger cancel. With the advanced settings you go even deeper into telling the module how the waveform will look like for that pad. You know, so on Roland modules you got HOLD instead of "peak decay", but acually this module tells you why it has to wait, because its waiting for the detected peak to decay. Woooow! I think "sensetime" is equal to Rolands SCAN parameter and sets the time how long it will "analyze" the incomming peak. And kick pad will require other settings than the snare. Sensitivity and Headroom you have to set like so, that you get a velocity of 127 only if you really smashing the stick into your mesh head and at the same time you got also your low velocities. It will take some time, but - believe me - its worth it. You get way higher dynamics when setting you triggers right. The "Trigger" curve ... ok. That will give you even more control about the feeling / response of your hit and the velocity and though the triggered sample. But if you are using a VST like Toontracks EZDrummer3 its way easier to dial these curves in by using the VST GUI. It will also be library dependend. So a Gospel library samples by a jazz drummer will react in a different way that a death metal library sampled by a metal drummer. And really love that possibility to switch between those sounds. Yeah! Hope that was helpfull for you and the other readers. Don't hesitate to contact me. Greetings from Germany!
I forgot the treshold settings. I would like to recommend this video by the developer of the Audiofront eDRUMin10 device I use. But this is basically what every module does. ruclips.net/video/v9_w32TWKZ0/видео.html
Hello, I have the same kit and I love it too! I’ve gotten the hit hat to trigger decently, but I would love to know the specific settings you have set yours at, as yours is triggering more accurately. Thank you!
I like your videos. I haven't sat behind a kit in probably 10 years. I was an "ok-ish to pretty decent beginner" drummer back then, but stopped playing/practicing when I went beck to finish my degree while working full time. Sold a very nice Tama kit (with Zildjian K dark cymbals) to invest in my daughter's growing piano interest. Best investment I ever made as she is a wonderful player and it's still her passion. But I've been itching to play again. This e-kit sounds like a perfect way to get back into it. Here's to continued success and more subs...keep it up.
Hey Jonathan that’s awesome. I hope your daughter continues to enjoy and progress playing the piano and that you can get back into drums! Thank you very much 😁👊
I bought my first ekit 5 years ago after drumming for decades. They are soooo much fun and I can practice way more because they are quieter. Now Ive come full circle and converted my 66 Ludwigs into an ekit.
This is a great review I was hesitant to buy this kit because of the hi hat issue I had the 850 kit and sold it because of the high hat problem. I think I’ll get this kit now thanks for the upload
Well after watching this video I bought this kit and 1 year later what do I think? You can't get better bang for your buck. Had 3 replacement cymbals curtseys of the 3 year warranty and Thonman are super brilliant and quick to replace, and the kick drum is possibly now missing the very occasional note and might need a new sensor. That said I play at least a couple of hours every day and it's taking some hits! Other than that? Oh yer I added a TD-27, Roland digital hi-hat, digital snare/ride, a Pearl hi-hat stand and Peral Demon XR double base, and the kits just amazing. Glad I bought it based on this video.
@@drumswithatom BTW do you know maybe any coach/training features in this module ? Roland/Yamaha has so called Rythm gate so it skips the note you play not in time, or just simply visualise you on screen the way you hit - how off the click you are. I am thinking of buying this drum set, but I was not able to find this info online anywhere. cheers mate!
I was actully in your position aswell, scared to order this kit but it turns our this kit is really amazing! I made on my channel a full in- depth unboxing for the kit and some demos of me playing it! All the videos since i got the kit are only played on it and the feel is incredible! Highly recommend this. Keep up the amazing videos my guy!
Great video! Suggestion; you should change your bass drum mallet (the-thing-that-hits-the-bass-drum-head-when-you-press-the-pedal-that-is-attached-to-the-mallet) from felt to plastic. Felt eats the mesh head quite fast. You have already drum sticks with plastic head so everything is good there. Keep these videos coming!
Thanks for the updated review! I'm looking to get back into drumming, but I don't want to pay the highest price and I sadly have neighbors who I don't wanna fight with. And accidentally I ran into your previous video on this kit a week ago or so. Before your previous video, I was thinking about taking a risk and getting this electronic kit. But after your video I basically forgot about it. Now I may actually get this kit after all, once I've saved enough money. I'll be sure to use your affiliate link.
one tip on this kit, cymbals are gonna break pretty fast probably its a great kit for the price but there are definitely some things that would make me choose a roland td-07 over it since that kit will last you 10 years and this kit probably around 2 to 3
The only thing that worries me about anything not Yamaha or Roland is reliability. Ive bought decades old used Roland stuff that still triggers perfect. Id be interested to see how this stuff holds up long term.
I purchased this kit too, it's kind of a headache to setup but very rewarding once you get into. Any chance you share your hi-hat open point settings? Great playing btw you're an excellent drummer!
@@eloystephane hey, I usually set the velocity around 100, peak decay at 32, sensetime at 0, closed point at 11 or 12 and I struggle a little with the open point to find a sweet spot.

Hey mate, great videos! I am looking at purchasing one of these, but just wanted to know if you stuck with this kit, and if so, how you got on with it after a longer period. Cheers
Great Video! Im not shure if i will get this Set or the Efnote3x.. But its three times more expensive.. It sucks that you can not test these things before buying. ps. You should also read the comments. He wrote close to zero and not zero. Maybe this will still make a difference?
Hello Atom, Great vid, helpfull and funny. And great playing. I just got me the same kit. I like it so far but..... I cannot get the hihat right. I really haven't got a clue how to set all the different parameters in the HH calibration proces. Would you - or anyone else reading this and allready found out - be so kind to tell me all the exact values of the distinct parameters. So I can copy them and finally enjoy playing my kit. Thanks in advance. Kind regards and greetings from a Dutch drummer 🥁
Hi mate! The exact parameters are dependant on the distance of the hi hat when your foot isn’t on the pedal so this will always be slightly different for everyone. the way you do it is to set the hihat distance however you like, and then calibrate the hi hat so it automatically reads the open and closed distance 😁
@@drumswithatom Hello. Thanks for your reply. I'll try it out. And if I understand it right it means that the hihat should be calibrated each time after setting it up. Anyway, thanks again.
Are you willing to make a video on how to use the midi with laptop/computer and drum software combo?! That would be so freakin helpfull. What drum software you use and what sound packs etc.. can not seem to find a decent video!!
Thanks for the video. Why aren't these drums sold in America by Guitar Center or Amazon or somebody local? If there is a problem, you have to deal with an overseas German company? Thanks
@drumswithatom Did you ever sort the ride? I’m getting missed notes a lot, and I’m nowhere near your skill level. I’m definitely hitting it, but sometimes nothing gets triggered. Really annoying.
Thanks for the info!! I was planning on getting this to replace my wonky small alesis kit and I was curious how well it would trigger my vsts, particularly hi hat response. I'm fully confident that the kit will suit my needs thank you!
I recommend you superior drummer, but I know that is very expensive, but you can download pirate for free, I have a very basic Roland and this makes that sounds awesome, you play very very good🙌
the only real big problem i see in reviews is that the harware is pretty bad, can you survive with it or should i eventually upgrade it to make everything more stable?
Heh, I don't hear an actual groove in there, but I like the kit. Can't find them in Canada yet. Thanks for the heads up on this kit, never seen them before but they are interesting.
TBF, I think the hi hat calibration is the first thing they tell you to do after powering it up in the manual. That being said, the response from the manufacturer is total BS! This is the first thing I’ve heard that makes me second guess buying this kit. I’m planning to grab this thing and upgrade the module when I find a good used deal.
@@drumswithatom Not gonna lie mine arrives Monday... Figured 3 years warranty who cares ^-^ Bought a full set of Evans db One Mesh heads to slap on and.. a Pearl Demon XR double base.... One upgrade at a time I guess 🙂
Hi, thanks for the review! What about the rim shot on the snare, Is It possibile with this kit? Playing the rim and the center toghether? I have also 2 more questions: the "crescendo" on the cymbals ? Is also possibile to load the sounds in the module instead of connecting to PC with vst?
Yoo! Great Video! Have you or anybody else ever tried double pedals on this kit? I bought one this week and I’m struggling a bit on the advanced settings to find the right balance… snare and hihat is fine but on the kick the (fast) double strokes are annoying… Greets
Yo cheers man! Not something I’ve tried myself but I have seen Millenium post a video with this kit using a double pedal 🤔 so maybe worth sending them a short message!
Hi, can you tell me if you are satisfied with this set and how it feels to you since I plan to get one for myself? Otherwise you play very well... Thanks for the answer... :)
Feck-a-doodle-doo! What amazing customer support from Thomann there! Proving that they are simply website warehouse wan...,er......merchants. Great video Atom, & fantastic playing!
There you go; just RTFM! ;-) Still nice vids on that kit though 👍 Oh, and those mirrored scenes are freaky - all lefty guitars and reading from right to left in an alphabet I don't know :-o
Cheers pal! Just the hi hat calibration set up, sensetime on 0 for the snare and peak decay around 20 ish for the ride cymbal 👊 would deffo recommend giving the manual a read tho!! So much good stuff in there, who woulda thought 😆
Just “studio” kit 1 and lowered the snare volume a bit, and then the sense time on the snare drum to zero and increased peak decay on the ride cymbal which I showed in the video mate. Also calibrated the hi hat settings :) apart from that i haven’t changed anything to it 👊
I honestly wish I got this over my TD-17! That was over 2,000 when I got it and at the moment the cymbals have just gotten worn out, and I absolutely hate the feel of the odd toms. I mainly picked it due to its double triggered snare and better built in sounds compared to most. I think I should have just gotten something like this. Cheap, great acoustic shape, and I could easily have just used plugins
Very interesting to hear mate! I guess we’ll see how this one holds up with the cymbals etc over time 🙌 for me I thought there were probably better ekits for the price but not with acoustic shells which was a must for me hahaha
I always forget you can change the settings in electric kits to actually make them better, maybe you don’t really need real cymbals after all! (until the electric one break lol) cheer mate
Hey nice re-review hahaha. I’ve got one question though. How about the hihat pedal, is it good? Currently I have the millenium MPS-750 and the hi hat pedal really sucks. Now I’m planning to get the 1000 model but I wonder if the pedal is good or not. In case it stills the same, can I replace it for another? Thanks!!!
Hey mate, I’ve never really had a problem with the hi hat pedal, more so the hi hat itself. Saying that though, I’ve never had a solid, high quality hi hat stand/pedal so I really can’t comment on how it compares to one! 🤜
Sound quality wise I’ve found them to be solid, however comfort wise for my head at least they do start to get uncomfortable after wearing it for long periods of time. I think it may be because of how tight of a fit they are (as they sell them as hearing protection headphones) 👊
Did you manage to connect it to ezdrummer? does it have a sound card like the roland td50 to send the vst sounds back to the module outputs? How is latency with a pc vst host? C'mon man gi'me content :)
I don’t have ez drummer man I used studio drummer, latency is minimal but does exist. You can import sounds to the module but whether its similar to the Roland I have no idea 😭
Not sure if you still need this information, but here is what you do; Search for "Thomann MPS-1000 Manual" and click the link that goes to a PDF that is on Thomann's site. Scroll down to page 22 and it's on the lower half of the page.
@@bobmarshall4143 the throne suxx lol. I didn’t bother using it bc I had a Roc n Soc here already anyway. I haven’t had any issue with stands or hardware but it’s also just a home kit. I don’t gig with it or need to break it down really
Thanks mate! My settings are the same from what I showed in the video 😁 I can’t say I know too much about the VST tho, I Just barely managed to set it up after looking up a tutorial and haven’t touched it since 😩
@@drumswithatom Was only just wondering if i, for example, just could plug in the usb to the midi on the module, and then the other in the pc, load in the vst, and then that it just automaticly transfers the sounds from the vst to the kit? Or should we load em on a usb flash drive, and put it in, and load from there? And btw, for me i was thinking of buying the steven slate 5.5 as that one seems to have more options for drum sounds compared to ez drummer 3 (which also have quite a few expansion packs priced at 80 each) and is also the cheaper option, 120 euros for the steven slate compared to 159 for the ez drummer. You can as well do even more and buy superior drummer 3 lol, but that one's very pricey at around 400 euros. Anyway, your vst sounds nice too. Could you link the site plz where you got it, and link the tutorial youve found as well? Thanks in advance, and btw, we can also do this via email, please say so if you want that, and i will email you at the email adress found on your main page.
Honestly mate I’m not too sure, I’d definitely advise sending thomann / Millenium an email. But here is the tutorial and the VST I use ruclips.net/video/gKww1UJ81pA/видео.html www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/drums/studio-drummer/ apart from that, my knowledge goes no further 💀😂
@@drumswithatom fair enough mate, at least you shared the knowledge that you know yourself :) So i really appreciate that. Now only to wait untill it arrives :)
Haven’t experienced any latency with the kit by itself or with the VST, however my use with a VST is limited as I don’t really know what I’m doing with it 😂
After the calibration it’s been pretty decent, but I have no idea how it compares to the mps850. Maybe worth contacting them to see if it’s a worthy upgrade 🤜
@@drumswithatom I have the v1 for the 850, they came out with a V2 which is supposed to be much improved. I'm trying to decide between the V2 made for the 850 and the ch-13 that comes with the mps1000. There is no calibration feature on my module tho so I'm not sure how well it will work. Maybe I am better off going with the 850 V2. If only they weren't in Germany I could buy both and try them out, and then return whichever was worse!

Unfortunately I can’t afford any more music gear purchases 😥 but I think there are a few videos with it on RUclips!
You almost had me there with the prank😅
😳😳😂
Hello Atom,
Great vid, helpfull and funny.
Man I loved your videos, I've been checking out this drum kit for a while now and I'm more convinced of buying it.
Just subscribed 😁
Thank you Rafael!
Are you willing to make a video on how to use the midi with laptop/computer and drum software combo?! That would be so freakin helpfull. What drum software you use and what sound packs etc.. can not seem to find a decent video!!
Sure can bro! Will show u guys in a future video no problem 👊
@@drumswithatom sweeet!
Hope it does man!
I recommend you superior drummer, but I know that is very expensive, but you can download pirate for free, I have a very basic Roland and this makes that sounds awesome, you play very very good🙌
Thanks John! Definitely wanna get superior drummer one day, still got a lot to play around with studio drummer so hopefully can make it sound niceee 🙏
the only real big problem i see in reviews is that the harware is pretty bad, can you survive with it or should i eventually upgrade it to make everything more stable?
I want one of these SO bad but Thomann won't ship the set to the US because it's too big
RIP my affordable hopes and dreams
Unlucky dude 😔
Heh, I don't hear an actual groove in there, but I like the kit. Can't find them in Canada yet. Thanks for the heads up on this kit, never seen them before but they are interesting.
👊👊
Can you show your Hihat settings?
TBF, I think the hi hat calibration is the first thing they tell you to do after powering it up in the manual. That being said, the response from the manufacturer is total BS! This is the first thing I’ve heard that makes me second guess buying this kit. I’m planning to grab this thing and upgrade the module when I find a good used deal.
yeah that was definitely on me hahaha, but yeah in fairness now a few months later im still enjoying the kit a lot
Hi fella, how did you make it works with a vst drums? How about to make a video tutorial? Thanks dude!😎🎉
Not an expert myself to be honest mate, barely got it to work! 🤣 but I followed a RUclips tutorial myself
@@drumswithatom thanks dude! Can you share the link pls?
@@Marcusgringo ruclips.net/video/gKww1UJ81pA/видео.html this is the one I used :)
Good video fella.
Cheers mate!
@@drumswithatom Not gonna lie mine arrives Monday... Figured 3 years warranty who cares ^-^ Bought a full set of Evans db One Mesh heads to slap on and.. a Pearl Demon XR double base.... One upgrade at a time I guess 🙂
@@ex0148 I said the same thing 😂 hope u enjoy!
This kid is amazing 😂
🤣 thank you Kenneth!
Louder, so the price gouging "premium" eDrum companies in the back can hear you.
Would be very interesting to see how this compared to one!
Just imagine if you bought the Roland module alone and replaced the module to this.
I bought one this week and I’m struggling a bit on the advanced settings to find the right balance… snare and hihat is fine but on the kick the (fast) double strokes are annoying…
Greets
Yo cheers man! Not something I’ve tried myself but I have seen Millenium post a video with this kit using a double pedal 🤔 so maybe worth sending them a short message!
Thanks mate! Keep up the gooood work!
try it with a virtual drum plugin like EZdrummer3 or AddictiveDrums
Playing around with Studio Drummer atm bro but in the future would love to give ezdrummer a go 👊
Hi, can you tell me if you are satisfied with this set and how it feels to you since I plan to get one for myself? Otherwise you play very well... Thanks for the answer... :)
Feels very nice to me! The cymbals still feel like hitting plastic but I quite enjoy playing the mesh heads :D
Feck-a-doodle-doo! What amazing customer support from Thomann there! Proving that they are simply website warehouse wan...,er......merchants.
Great video Atom, & fantastic playing!
Thank you mate!
There you go; just RTFM! ;-) Still nice vids on that kit though 👍
Oh, and those mirrored scenes are freaky - all lefty guitars and reading from right to left in an alphabet I don't know :-o
🤣🤣 rtfm, love it!!
That ending😂😂
Hahahaha gotcha 🤣🤣
Aye, maybe I should read the manual aswell.. or do you mind share your settings? Gr8 vid!
Cheers pal! Just the hi hat calibration set up, sensetime on 0 for the snare and peak decay around 20 ish for the ride cymbal 👊 would deffo recommend giving the manual a read tho!! So much good stuff in there, who woulda thought 😆
@@drumswithatom Well, I might just give it a go then! Thx!
It worked! Sry for spamming, but have you found out what mapping the mps1000 uses to connect with addictive drums/ezdrummer etc.?
Nice! Sorry man I do not… I used kompact studio drummer and barely got that to work 😂😂
@@drumswithatom 😂
I’ve been saving for this kit for the last 8 months, and now there are none in stock. 💀😭😭
Brooo 😩😩😩 hopefully they’ll restock soon for u my guy
@@drumswithatom💀 pray for me
@@drumswithatomjust came today, and I’m in love 😌
@@turrellrex9619 ayy let’s go!! Enjoy my man 😎
Hi ! thanks for your videos, but can you tell me how you calibrate the hit hat ? what did you change ?
You gotta go to settings 👉 advanced 👉 calibration 😁
can u please tell all the general advanced settings u set up to make it sound this good?
I really don't know how to do
Just “studio” kit 1 and lowered the snare volume a bit, and then the sense time on the snare drum to zero and increased peak decay on the ride cymbal which I showed in the video mate. Also calibrated the hi hat settings :) apart from that i haven’t changed anything to it 👊
Great video! How loud do the drums get when the module is turned off? Like would they be quiet enough to use them in uni accommodation?
Hmm that’s a tough one man! Id say they probably similar volume to practice pads
Hahaha we’ll see bro thanks for your continued support!!! 👊
your welcome!
How loud are these to others when your headphones are on?
Very cool learning :D
Thanks Tony!
Would a double kick drum pedal work with this kit?
How are those Vic Firth headphones, I play edrums and guitar home and I use headphones a lot and I should buy new one....
Sound quality wise I’ve found them to be solid, however comfort wise for my head at least they do start to get uncomfortable after wearing it for long periods of time. I think it may be because of how tight of a fit they are (as they sell them as hearing protection headphones) 👊
@@drumswithatom, thanks for your reply, do they have noise cancelling?
No they don’t
Brutal good!
Thanks Carlos!
Hi err how exactly did you calibrate your hi hat?
Not sure if you still need this information, but here is what you do; Search for "Thomann MPS-1000 Manual" and click the link that goes to a PDF that is on Thomann's site. Scroll down to page 22 and it's on the lower half of the page.
I love this kit. I expanded mine to 9pc setup
It grows on me the more I play it 😁
@@drumswithatom yeah me too. My module is maxxed out 😂
What are your feelings about the durability of the hardware? Cymbal stands, hi hat stands, snare stands, drummer’s throne if it came with one? Etc?
@@bobmarshall4143 the throne suxx lol. I didn’t bother using it bc I had a Roc n Soc here already anyway. I haven’t had any issue with stands or hardware but it’s also just a home kit. I don’t gig with it or need to break it down really
@@bobmarshall4143 hardware etc for me has been solid too, however I didn’t buy it with the throne
Mate, ive subbed to your channel! Cause I
Thanks mate! My settings are the same from what I showed in the video 😁 I can’t say I know too much about the VST tho, I Just barely managed to set it up after looking up a tutorial and haven’t touched it since 😩
@@drumswithatom
Was only just wondering if i, for example, just could plug in the usb to the midi on the module, and then the other in the pc, load in the vst, and then that it just automaticly transfers the sounds from the vst to the kit?
Enjoy bro!
Just bought this one myself. Can I ask what settings you set for the hi-hat (after calibration) ?
You gotta go to settings 👉 advanced 👉 calibration 😁
6 months later... How are they holding up?
Pretty much same dude! ✌️
How did you setup the hi hat? I am having trouble because it almost always trigger the "open" hihat even after an hour of tweaking the settings.
How is the latency? Is it also the same when you use a VST?
Haven’t experienced any latency with the kit by itself or with the VST, however my use with a VST is limited as I don’t really know what I’m doing with it 😂
How you finding the hi hat? Im thinking of getting the hi hat that comes with the mps1000 as an upgrade for my mps850.
Can you run different module with this kit ?? Or does it have to be the one it comes with . So say the pearl mimic pro or efnote module
Because I’ve only got my module that came with the kit I have no idea - but maybe if you get in touch with thomann they’d know 🤔 good question !
