@@crunkaholic81 I agree 100%. Since then, I've heard at least one Mayfield's song that I believe for a FACT that Prince directly based one of his songs on. Lol...Unfortunately, given that I'm old enough to appreciate Curtis Mayfield, I can't remember the title of either song. 🤣🤣🤣
When season change, tears are calling, Will you answer the phone, Somebodys feeling alone. Heart broken , don't know which way to turn, trusting in anyone, Who showing them concern. Only to be let down again, Screaming why me God, I don't wanna give up, But life's getting to be so hard. What is the answer to my problems, How do i solve'em, When season's change, People are in desaray, don't know which to go, Steady trying to find their way. Looking for love , In all the wrong places, Judging each other by wealth and faces. Remember the one you turn down, that didn't meet your qualification, Could have been the same one that would have ease all your frustrations. When seasons change, People seem to be always in rush, Pretending their looking for love, When all they want is lust. Only to be left sad and broken hearted , laying in their bed with tears in there eye, Praying they can take it all back, Because the person truly loved them and they made them cry.
"times make you suffer/when seasons change/can't call call no names/when you got your own self to blame" - so deep it depresses me coz of the fact of it and the fact that many people don't see it. one of the most perceptive songs ever written by a man who specialised in it... he so badly needs to be MORE recognised amongst the greats!
I love this record!! Mayfield was a musical genius who was ahead of his time, he laid the ground work for many artists who followed, i.e. Hendrix, Prince, Sly, Marley, Kravitz, Weller, Baby Face, Harper, Seal, among others.... Curtis's music is timeless, and his music and message will live on forever!!
Curtis and Hendrix along with sly stone and bob Marley were all contemporaries similar in age although they all had their own niche for different audiences. Curtis was a huge influence on traditional r&b and what would become modern r&b and by extension black guitar players and he truly did inspire the many other artist you list who came to fame after the 70s
Curtis mayfield was truly an enlightened soul whose vivid and realistic perception through his music of the bleakness ,frustration, joys and sorrows of modern society, life and times, and the world in general, is only equalled by that of another lyrical poetic genuis, Bob Dylan..🌎📸🏛🎤🎧🎸🎷🎹
Yes, sir... Dominoes and bbq music right here. I'm 26. Curtis was always playing... Temprees, confunkshun, cameo, stylistics, delfonics, barkays, Ohio players... Should I keep going?! I know real music honey child...
Listening to this song post-9/11 always feels kinda prophetic ("When seasons change, and we've again surpassed September. A lot of scars - that kind of scare you to remember"). RIP Gentle Genius ♥

Curtis can take you to church, to the ghetto, to the White House, and around the world of the mind...IN ONE SONG!!!! PURE GENIUS SOUL.

Atlanta season 2...Amazing! I had no idea Mayfield had such an exquisite falsetto. This sounds like it could've been recorded by Prince at his peak.
He was inspiring prince the whole way
