Just in case I should also say that of course you need to balance fasting with eating - You need to survive off of something. I have been doing intermittent fasting the past year (22 hours fasted, 2 hours eating - you can widen it to 16/8, which still provides great benefits) and will fast for a couple days every other month or so. Several other people have recommend a routine like this - Tim Ferriss recommends doing a 3 day fast once per month and a 7 day fast once per year.

I watched a video where Dr Jason Fung mentions his fasting regime - twice or 3 times per week, he fasts from dinner one day to dinner the next ie 24 hours. he sometimes does longer but not regularly. He likes to eat at home with his family.

@@daimsaeed, what many don't understand is that food has not always been available 24/7 tous humans. Like 2000 years ago when certain books were written they simply had periods when you had a climate moment when no food was available, so they had to fast. Think of a rain season or a heat wave, no food is grown so people had to fast. I just completed a 3-day fasting and I must admit, my hunger disappeared quite fast (no pun intended). Even when I smelled yummy foods I didn't crave it myself.

I once fasted for 15 days and you know what happened. Nothing. I was amazed. I drank water with a little bit of lemon in it the whole time. I was hungry the first day but that passed. After the 3rd day I started getting a little lightheaded. But that passed before the end of the 4th day. By day 5 I felt great. This lasted another 10 days to day 15. I never got hungry after the first day. By this time I told my girlfriend that if I continued to do it I would just be doing it for the sake of doing it. So I started eating again. One of the things I learned in that experience is that we've been lied to about nutrition just like many other things. The body performs better on a lack of food than it does on an excess amount of food. The food industry would lose Billions if people realized this and stop eating so much. I also find it somewhat comforting to be aware that I can go for weeks without eating and be fine. Some people think if they don't eat for a day or 2 they will drop dead on the spot.

In every research I read or watch about fasting, they fail in pointing how physical activities are somehow affected by the prolonged lack of "fuel". My case: I work mostly in construction & as volunteer firefighter, I have sudden exposition to strong heat and stress. I tried fasting/ intermittent fasting for a while; first days were ok but one day, I had a fire emergency & in the middle of the task I almost fell unconscious... it never happened to me before. My advice, be careful how you choose your fasting schedule and adapt it to your activities.

Restricted calorie intake only works if combined with exercise, but restricted calorie intake can make the participant feeling hungry, sluggish and not feel like exercising. You might try just going one day without eating to get a feel for what is involved. Don't rush into it. This video was actually very informative and there are many other RUclips videos on fasting. The first 2-3 days can be hard. You will feel weak, and slight dizziness at times. You may get a headache. None of these symptoms should be severe and if you develop a severe migraine headache, extreme weakness, or almost fainting you need to stop immediately. Eating less results in weight loss too. Its not magic, with less calories you can't not lose weight its just maybe a little harder but Fasting too works just in lowering calories.
Also eating less is much easier if you are working out. If you Are fat then fast is the better choice, but if you need lot of protein for muscle gain its very hard to fast with it.

This rings true to me. I remember doing the "40-hour famine" as a kid, and how everyone was always complaining about the feeling of starving by the end of it, looking forward to eating something, anything, at the end of it.
Recently, for reasons outside my control, I went a week or so without any food, and only water and unsweetened black tea. Like the passage read from Sinclair, after about 2 days, I was surprised that I just didn't feel hungry at all. Even when I was able to get food again, I found that I didn't even feel like eating for another day or so. I didn't feel weaker, or cognitively insufficient at all.
I suppose, from an evolutionary perspective, it makes sense. Hunger is a sensation to encourage us to eat - but if we're unable to eat, for whatever reason, an ever increasing sense of hunger isn't going to magically cause food to appear. It'd be detrimental for your body to start making you slower or weaker, as that's going to make it harder for you to find or catch food.
The one thing I did notice, that I haven't heard of any studies confirming, was that I found I took more risks, while deprived of calories. I'd turn into traffic earlier than I normally would've, and I took more social risks (ie. I became more social) than I typically do. My personal assumption is that, in a famine situation, there's an advantage to taking greater risks in the effort to find food - whether it be climbing higher than is strictly safe to reach fruit, attacking an animal that's larger than you should probably tackle otherwise, or even simply getting over the home-is-safe sense, and moving somewhere with better prospects.
Maybe i should try a 300+day fast, myself - put a vlog up on RUclips each day.... lose some weight.

This actually reminds me of how people that get injured in isolated areas (forests, hiking trails etc) ,and have to travel to get help, tend to say they feel little to no pain until they find help. Then the pain comes surging back worse then before. It's the brain essentially saying "ok, we have to get out of this situation and pain isen't helping right now so turn it off". Then, as soon as help is found "Ok, now everyone needs to know how and where we hurt so we get better". Your body dosen't like to waste energy on useless things. However, it also likes being prepared for worse situations. No food is worse then some food to your body over the very long haul, so your body would rather you be weak then start using up it's fat reserves immediately incase there is a sudden total lack of food. Kind of like keeping your pinch hitter back in a game of baseball until you really need them.Your bodies design for higher efficiency during ketosis also makes sense. "There is no food so you need to be better to get food, also hunger is just distracting you so lets just turn that off for awhile until you get food". Your body is an efficient machine of survival that has tons of neat tricks like this to keep you alive and functional.

For those people, it is better to become a fat burner, rather than a sugar burner. An example, these people you see walking around with sagging fat pouches or with the big round 'beer belly' are the ones 'bullied by carbs' they are usually ravenous within an hour and a half to 2 hrs of last eating. When these people become what is known as fat-adapted, everything changes - they are finally able to "Eat to Live, not Live to Eat!" It is wonderful for them to finally, not be judged as gluttons. So yeah, I only eat meals twice a day, and have a light snack at 6. (At 12 I have lunch, 6 I come home from school, and I usually eat around 8.)

    * 00:00 - 01:30 Introduction: What is the difference between fasting and eating less?
    * 01:30 - 04:10 Minnesota starvation experiment: This experiment studied the effects of caloric restriction on healthy men. The men ate a diet of 3200 calories per day for 3 months and then 1,570 calories per day for 6 months. The men experienced negative physical and psychological changes.
    * 04:10 - 07:40 The case of Angus Barbieri: This man fasted for over 380 days and lost a significant amount of weight but reported no negative side effects.
    * 07:40 - 10:20 Hunger and fasting: Fasting can actually decrease hunger levels. A study at the Medical University of Vienna looked at patients participating in a 33-hour fast and found that their ghrelin levels, known as the hunger hormone, were lowest at 9:00 AM. Another study at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark showed that ghrelin levels actually decreased the longer subjects fasted for up to 84 hours.
    * 12:50 - 15:30 Conclusion: The video concludes that fasting may be a more effective way to lose weight than calorie restriction. Fasting may lead to more weight loss, less muscle loss, and more energy.

After my first year of Uni, I came back home feeling the worst about my body than I ever have in my life. Over the past month I have introduced intermittent fasting, low carb and no sugar (pretty much keto) in to my life and will never look back. My normal schedule is usually 16/8 and after three weeks+, I feel amazing. My biggest advice is powering through the first few days and then you're body will quickly adjust to your new and healthier lifestyle. The cravings will fade and your appetite and hunger will diminish. I'm so happy and am so proud of my progress and control over food. You don't realize it but so much of our lives surrounds food and unhealthy food options. Once you make the change, the pounds start shedding and your outlook on life becomes brighter. Can't wait to continue down this path and live a healthy and happy life.

@@isabellaa2876 Hi, my daily carb intake was around 30g or lower most likely. I never track my carb intake and instead research the foods that are low on carbs and that I would enjoy and in turn incorporate them in to my diet. I allow myself treats of healthier carbs such as berries or other fruits. A lunch that I highly recommend with low carb and that fill me up is turkey wraps e.i turkey slice of my choosing wrapped around lettuce, cheese and mustard with a side of another vegetable. My biggest advice is to do what makes you happy and be mindful of what you put in to your body and at what time of the day you do. A healthy lifestyle is something that anyone can achieve. So back ages ago your tribe would need to wait for crops to mature or for the hunters to come back from their hunting trip bringing back massive amounts of food. My go is to not eat in the Mornings anymore. No more food till lunch time, I am not hungry anyways. Being overweight, I should eat less. So how about I just eat in the evening when I can enjoy it. I am mostly thirsty in the morning anyways. Just drink more water and try to go 12-16 hours without eating. I am at 13 hours now and want to start skipping lunch and just eating dinner. @@LyrixNChill did you use electrolytes?

    • @LyrixNChill
      @LyrixNChill 2 года назад +2

@@texasmadejt1453 ABSOLUTELY. It is vitally important to not let your electrolytes become depleted from your body when water fasting (i.e. you can die). Also, coming off of the fast, you introduce normal, "heavy" foods slowly over a couple days back into your diet (i.e. you can injure yourself... and maybe die). I think those are the two main reasons mainstream health experts don't recommend long term fasting without knowledgeable supervision. People hurt themselves with their own negligence.

It took me about a week of pushing breakfast back first to noon and so on until I now am on the dinner at 6 or one meal per day plan. Doing great. BUT I eat high quality food right off our homestead. Also doing 120 to 200 pushups per day and cold showers. I just keep adding all the amazing things I am learning off RUclips. Cold packs on belly fat for example. There is so much great info out there now. We live in the enlightened age for sure. Btw I am 71 and getting younger daily. Great vid. Thank you.

Fasting is an amazing tool. At the start of August I decided that I needed to lose as much weight as possible before Graduation in October. My first fast was 34 days, just over 800 hours, and I went from 140kg down to 117.7kg. Had a 3 week refeed using intermittent fasting (20/4) and went up to 126kg with the return of water weight etc. Started my next water fast 8 and a half days ago and was at 116kg this morning. Graduation is on the 19th of this month, and I think I will hit around 107kg by then, 33kg in just over 2 and a half months.

Wow, that's amazing willpower. Can you please answer me some questions? Did you had any side effects - terrible headaches, nausea, etc.? What's with your skin? Did you notice wrinkles on your face, dropping your cheeks, lose skin, strechmarks, sagging and no elasticity? As someone who is very overweight and desperatelly wants to lose fat and become healthier I'm interested in this method, since I have no discipline when it comes to eating and it's easier for me not to eat at all than to count what and how much food I consume. But I'm concerned about the skin issues and side effects. Please, answer me - I would be very grateful.

Ladies, start fasting or eating more properly during your period or right after, up to your ovulation time. (You might feel like doing so naturally, since those are the two weeks where your hormone levels are at their lowest and steadiest). We get hungry and/or have a significant appetite increase right after (if not the first day of) ovulation because our body sends hunger or appetite cues to our brain to make us eat and therefore stock up fat in case our ovulation has resulted in a pregnancy. (And fat is needed to keep the embryo attached to the womb)
Endocrinology (science of hormones) is a sadly disregarded field but your eating habits and therefore disorders are likely coming from there.
