  • Before ya'll flame me.... this is a daily driver, and I am not a pro. Appreciate your comments though. This is only the second car I've painted, so I am learning with every experience.
I painted the car in it's original Copper color using single stage urethane. There are some "tiger stripe" issues on the hood and deck lid, so I will most likely re-shoot those, but the rest of the car looks great! Enjoy the video!

I have painted vehicles professionally for 30 years. These comments are intended to help. The color is a very had one to laydown without getting tiger strips. It looked like the pattern is to narrow, it should be 6 inches wide. These 2 reasons alone would make it almost impossible to do any better. Don't give up, get some information for your paint supplier on what type of spray equipment to use,
and how to apply it. You seam to be doing a lot of things right. I think with a little more information you will be much more satisfied.

Hate to tell you this but that entire car is tiger stripped. Your technique is all wrong. you can't randomly spray panels like your doing. Your all over the place. Your getting stripes because your not holding your guy properly as you move across the panel. You must keep the nozzle pointed parnell with the panel. Yout gun is tipped forward and backwards causing the stripes. Plus your gun was not spraying evenly. It was spraying intermittently from what u could see. Don't know what gun that was but did you spray any test patterns first?? That's a must. Plus it sounded like your air pressure was really high but that could just be the audio. If I could talk to you on the phone or something I could really te you things that will make you a far better painter real quick. Not trying to be an ass just would like to help you so this doesn't happen again and you don't waste hundreds if dollars of material.

@@Project-Mopar let it sit for a week before you respray or it could lift. make sure your gun is absolutely clean. this time pick up your arm speed as you spray. do one part at a time.. hood then fender then door and so on. try to overlap each pas 50% . make sure at all times the nozzle is pointed straight at the panel you are spraying. if you tilt the gun you will get stripes every time. make sure on the last coat that you dont follow the same pattern. change it up. example you painted the trunk from side to side. this time spray it standing beside the quarter.... do half then over to the other side and spray the other half. same way on the roof. just watch your hose hitting the side of the car. if you see any stripes again then spray in different directions like an X pattern per say. that way you are not laying down paint along the same line... does that make sense? if you follow the same pattern each time then stripes are inevitable as a beginner. watch a video of a pro here on youtube. watch how he walks around the car and how fast his arm movement is. then keep that in mind at all times as you spray. just mimic his movements. and arm strength is really important. i saw you kept changing arms from left to right. it definately takes some strength to do a complete on a car. You can do it buddy! Make sure you watch a video on doing a test pattern ok! If your gun isnt spraying properly and even then there is no way to do a good job.

I just want to know what region of the US you live in where you can paint outside, let alone not in a spraybooth. There are some places where if they caught you doing that you are looking at a HEAVY fine.

I’m also restoring a ‘67 Dart GT. I love seeing others actually restoring their own cars. It might not be as perfect as having a pro shop do it for you, but as the owner you’ll have lots of pride knowing “it was built and not bought.”

Crossing it in means to spray in two different directions. If you shoot first lite coat left to right , shoot second lite coat up and down. It helps cover overlap trails. Remember better to move too fast than too slow. Looks great!

I've painted with non metallics, but this is the first metallic paint I've used. I was unaware of the learning curve. If you will notice, the tiger stripe issue on the hood and trunk didn't show up until the last coat, so it was more of a case of not keeping the paint mixed. (lots of flakes at the bottom of the cup). Anyhow, it's been remedied since then. I will post an updated photo of the car now that it's color sanded.

The paint gun is hard to paint with when there’s too munch air. My air blows hard like yours is doing, I will have to find a better regulator before I paint. Lot of hard work getting these ready for paint, Hope you got her like you wanted. Good thing about paint, it’s fixable
