    Had a new 68 Dart GT w/ 318 and factory 4-speed. B-racing green, black interior, buckets, red line tires and dog dish hubs.... all factory. LOVED that car. Parents wouldn't let me have a car freshman year in college so they gave it to my brother.

    God, I wish I still had my 1967 Dart now. When I bought it for $500 it was just another 18 year old cheap used car. Today it's an iconic mopar in a world of plastic crap-mobiles.

    Funny how the Dart was originally touted as a women's car and an economy car, but ended up being an animal with 340 small blocks and a few with 383 big blocks.

    I'd like to buy a new car, but there's nothing in the economy price range that I want---if the Dart and Valiant were still around, I wouldn't even hesitate.

      Chrysler Corporation brought back the Dodge Dart by with the discontinued Plymouth Division there will be no Valiant unless it's made out of the Chrysler Division as a luxury model.

    What happened to Mopar after the 60’s ended? Their cars from about 64 thru 70 were arguably some of the best Detroit had to offer. Good styling, great power plants, Chrysler engineering...
    Things looked rosie for them
    Their cars in the 70’s were terrible
    By the end of the decade they were bankrupt and only the govt, the K car and Iococca saved them

    • @dmoore7519
      @dmoore7519 2 года назад +1

      Up to 64 the 7 step dip & spray kept the upper body parts from rusting within. After that the dip did not upper cover upper fenders and shock towers. I have a 64 Chrysler 300K and it is relatively rust free for a Northeast salt belt car.

    In Australia, we imported bodies of Dart hardtops in kit form and in 1970 in particular produced one of Chrysler Australia's rarest muscle cars...the Hemi Valiant Pacer hardtop....see link:

      340 wasn't released until 1968. The 273 was the optional V8 in 1967 until late in the model year when the GTS began production with the 383 4 barrel. A big block in a 67 Dart is one fun ride! I know.

    Had a car exactly like it I put 70's tires in the front 60's in the rears I installed air shocks with an air valve in the trunk so I could raise and lower the rear end at will, with baby moons all around. Thats what we did back in a day jacked up the rear that could not exceed 24" above pavement and cops would measure it the reason for an air vave in the trunk so when I saw a cop I releasee some air an the rear would drop down. A fun car miss it, it was bronze in color a hardtop with Black interior was a nice contrast with the chrome trim. All US Steel

      Roy Cathcart Jr 1968 was the beginning of the end for performance. Very early smog reducing add-ons. Some examples of famous engine displacements changed: GM - 283 to 307, 327 to 350
      Ford - 289 to 302

    A reasonably safe car for 1967 ... but don't get hit from the side in any Valiant - the front will probably shear off at the A-pillar. Seriously ... seen it happen more than once. (Crashing defeats the purpose anyway.) ;-)

      My first car was a Dodge Dart GT convertible with a 273 cu in, 2 barrel carburetor. It had a 4 speed manual transmission and a 3.23:1 sure track rear axle. It was 2 door model with gold exterior and black interior with bucket seats. The convertible was black with a glass rear window. I overhauled the engine at about 100,000 miles, bored it out .030 and installed over sized pistons. It was not too good off the line but was strong once it got going. Top speed in 4th gar was 100 MPH at red line. I learned to drive in a 1955 Dodge Lancer with a 270 cu in Hemi engine. I often wondered what the performance would be like If i put that Hemi engine in the Doge Dart. The odometer failed about 150,000 miles so i am not sure what the mileage was when i sold it in 1983. I live In NJ so the bottom of the car was 50% fiberglass and Bondo auto body filler by then.
