There was an option package a limited number of dealers offered, similar to Yenko with GM. But frames were cut and other light weight mods made it very rare, with no warranty.
Certain dealers offered 383 and even 440 Darts and Dusters in 70, like Grand Spaulding in Chicago, after Chrysler officially dropped those engines from the factory option list. They also offered 6 pack induction through certain dealers through 72 on 340s. What I will say is that SB Novas handled quite well with the optional HD suspension package.. so much so, that they were the cars to beat ( in their class) in MSP tests through 79.

@silverbird58 no, it got pulled off youtube because motortrend got greedy and wants a month subscription for sub-par videos. btw, no it was not lop-sided. mopar made more tq because of the ginormous piston compared to the chevy.
You have to wonder whether the same corporate mentality used to train a salesforce was employed in R&D, manufacturing, and marketing. If so, what culminated in the late 70s and 80s makes sense.
My dad had a 71 swinger he purchased as a family car. It rust severely from the NH winters. It had a hole rusted completely thru in 2 years on the top of the front fenders . Was a falling down junk in 5 years. Traded it for a 76 swinger. The 76 was one of the first with catalytic converter and was way worse than the 71. All the rust and a crappy running engine. The dart was a sportier looking car than a nova and the 340 was a very stout engine but the dart was a flimsy rust bucket. The nova was a much more substantial car.
Rubbish. The A bodies were built tougher and stronger - just check out the solid K frame and front end engineering and the axle design. Compared to the Nova tin car from 'Generic Motors'/ One leaf spring - you gotta be joking!
1970 was the year the girls looked beautiful with they're Turtle neck sweaters, the guys looked good with the sideburns, and the cars just not only looked beautiful and apart, they're where also truly American made out of real metal unlike modern vehicles that are not only overpriced but made out of plastic, and they all look like the same Egg shells that you see on eggs.
Sorry Mopar guys nobody wants that dart nowadays but plenty of demand for that 70 nova. Plus Chevy had a big block that year.but earlier their was a hemi dart.that 340 has many similarities to the sbc.
Greg the Hemi dart could only be bought for drag racing as a factory drag car special order only that couldn't be driven on the street because it was a full 12:1 race Hemi & the car came with no title or a VIN number ! It even came with a decal stating competition only ! They did have a 440 option as well that was done by another source for Dodge but we're very rare & you could buy the 69 383 Dart GTS which are rare as well ! I know someone who has one a 383 4 spd car that's restored in very nice original condition ! Those Hemi Darts & the 69 BO29 Hemi fastback Barracudas were the very first factory drag cars built & were a terror on the drag strips back then but I think they only made about 50 of them if I remember most being sold to factory race drivers & some dealerships that raced . They have there own class for those very same cars now with some of them running low 8s old school carburetors & manual transmission which is neat as heck ! Check them out on RUclips here in the SS/A & SS/B classes if I remember or just type in 68 factory Hemi Dart drag car or 69 BO29 Hemi fastback Barracuda & stuff will show up !

Dart was such a better built car. The Nova was good enough to the point where consumers were brainwashed by GM's good advertising. They preyed on the lazy who didn't want to do their homework.

Learned to drive on a 72 Dart sedan with the 225. First car was a 69 Acadian with the 230/Powerglide transmission. No comparison. The Dart was by far the better car.
Well one car is the fastest street car in the world as of Cash Days 2018 the other was overshadowed by the Challenger Demon.
You know it’s true
But all BS aside they are both desirable cars today a well tuned 340 Dart back in the day would spank many a big block!
Sorry but I'd go with a 396 nova here. Probably change my mind if it was a 67-69 dart tho...
Yeah, and the LA block 340 out gunned both.
Rear torsion bars would have been cool.
Having both cars, the Nova is better.
@silverbird58
The 383 didn't come in the Dart as a standard option. And Chevrolet never made a 383. Go outside once in awhile.
If so, what culminated in the late 70s and 80s makes sense.
i like american retro cars.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Interesting
My dad had a 71 swinger he purchased as a family car. It rust severely from the NH winters. It had a hole rusted completely thru in 2 years on the top of the front fenders . Was a falling down junk in 5 years. Traded it for a 76 swinger. The 76 was one of the first with catalytic converter and was way worse than the 71. All the rust and a crappy running engine. Chrysler legacy.
Dart vs Nova? That's a tough one.
Who's the actress?
A super 60 Package GLH Turbo Omni beat every one of these Mopar land barges in a magazine test from the early 90s, I cant remember the Magazine though...Mopar action magazine?
I love these Mopar vids. They come up with the stupidest shit to claim a victory over. Door handles? Please! Three Novas and one Dart. I’ll take the Nova, thank you. Though I do wish they’d produced it in a hardtop.
They mentioned dusting her off.....while plymouth had the duster.
being a ford guy i am kinda out of this one..but if i had to choose..it will be the dodge..been around novas like these back in the day and always thought they were just a cheap chevy..the nova would walk all over the dodge with top power plants..but its not always about top power...funny they didnt mention chevy still using the cheap ass 2 speed powerglide
Maybe a Chevy could walk all over a Ford 302 or 351 but not a 340
@@justenough730 ...yeah..and a 427 ford cammer would eat a hemi's lunch....turn around.then laff at it .....the cammer was known as the hemi killer
@@justenough730 and motor trend or hotrod magazine did a small block engine muscle car shootout .....when the dust settled...it was the boss 351 that took top honors
@@merc-ni7hy check out the winners of the 1971 winter national finals every single catagory from stock thru top fuel was Chrysler powered to take the win i don't see Ford in that win column
@@justenough730 thats cuzz there was so much support for chrysler....wasnt bob glidden setting track records with a small block ford????..back then there was zero support
oh come on i like both
I feel the 68 Dart had better looks
But that’s just me
I have a 68, 70, and 73. They all have their virtues.
Hyper Pak 225!!
What do they mean by 'Hard top' they all have steel roofs?
Thank you :-) Is that is what makes it a sedan?
@@tjm3900 sedan usually refers to a 2/4 door with a post running down from the roof.
What's the difference between a hard top and a coupe? This video made a big deal about it.
a post running down from the roof to the body.
The body design of the Dart looks so much better than the Nova
The dart was a sportier looking car than a nova and the 340 was a very stout engine but the dart was a flimsy rust bucket. The nova was a much more substantial car.
Rubbish. The A bodies were built tougher and stronger - just check out the solid K frame and front end engineering and the axle design. Compared to the Nova tin car from 'Generic Motors'/ One leaf spring - you gotta be joking!
nooope. mopars had stiffer chassis. nova crabwalked.
The Dart looks like a UK GM made Vauxhall Viva
Dodge is the grandfather of muscle since 58 with the 392 in the chrysler 300 370hp no car then had that much power....
¿cual es el nombre del tema musical de fondo? ² ¤
No question, Nova all the way.SS
I agree...
Boys and Girls
The computers that designed Chrysler's suspensions ALWAYS flipped cogs!
torsion bars are better than coils any day.
I'd rather have a 340 Duster than a Dart or a Nova, and I'm a GM kinda guy.
You know Sandy is a swinger
Either of these cars are way better than the junk SUV that is currently available now. I won’t drive Karen’s soccer wagon.
Check them out on RUclips here in the SS/A & SS/B classes if I remember or just type in 68 factory Hemi Dart drag car or 69 BO29 Hemi fastback Barracuda & stuff will show up !
i cant help chevy idiots obsess over a certain year model and body style. cheaper is better. you chevy boys ought to know that, accounting on how cheap all your bolt ons are. too bad you have to add so many to keep up with stock mopar parts.
Dart was such a better built car. The Nova was good enough to the point where consumers were brainwashed by GM's good advertising. They preyed on the lazy who didn't want to do their homework.
Mopar A Bodies Forever.. ok and Plymouth B Bodies don't tell my Dart's
I was 3 😂
Why does the Chevy dealer look like a green alien mexican? I think I would rather go to a Dodge dealer if Chevrolet dealers are green. As for the cars they both seem competitive only the dodge will likely be in the shop every other week.
Guided Meditation my friend has a yard full of Dodges none run.
@@jackrohde4709 LOL I have seen one of those yards. Maybe your neighbor is a great guy but those cars need some improvement.
There's also a Canadian version of the 70 Chevy Nova (aka the Acadian SS).
Love the 340 V8. Meh, 339
Wow the new Dart is just a toyota Corolla
No, actually the new Dart is based on an Alfa Romeo chassis, with Dodge designed sheet metal.
They should have gone with the A-body retro styling for the dart reissue, a lot of us grew up with these cars and would have bought one if they looked like the car in the video or like the one Mannix had
Wonder why she changed her cloths to put the steamer trunk in the Dodge. LOL
Because Monica Lewinski's dry cleaner had to learn his craft somehow.
The sexism in the Chrysler promo videos is embarrassing.
Sandy and Rocky, those names ring some movie characters way before the were written, LOL
