I've had this phone for 2 months and the freedom you have using it is fantastic! I bought it exactly because I've come to find the AI trickery on other phones (I also have the Note10 +) overdone and nauseating. Excellent detailed review, by the way!
Side sense is THE feature I use everytime, to launch split screen (swipe up), one handed mode (swipe down), or access something fast. It's so convenient and works so well. 2 months that I have this phone and it never disappointed me since then. The best smartphone I've had in a long time.
Its debatable based on what you want. I personally don't like spending over 1k unless I'm getting a foldable device but I could see spending 1k on this with the earbuds bundled.
@@shawnorjiakor for one, I don't like the design, but that's debatable. What I didn't get is if it has 90Hz or not. The display should be 4K. Nevermind 4K is a thing. Good to see another review of the 1ii ! Currently have had one of these for a while and am totally enjoying it, specially the cameras! Review was long but very in depth! If you want, could add in timestamps for different subjects that would be very helpful!
Great review, but I would argue that the Heat Suppression option found in game enhancer (which can also be used on other apps) is not a gimmick. Matter of fact, it's brilliant, and I guarantee other phones will copy it.
Agree. It's a game changer for anyone who likes to game on their phone. The other features are mostly quality of life, but the heat suppression is no joke. On my old mobile device, whenever it's at low battery, that's it for the session. Trying to continue while also charging made the phone extremely hot and hugely reduced framerates (and likely hurting the battery). No problem at all on the 1 ii. The "H.S. Power Control", as Sony calls it, effectively allows users to game indefinitely without detriment by sending power straight to terminal. Not just gaming, either, since any app can be added to "Game Enhancer". Definitely not a gimmick.
Great in depth review! Subbed! I'm loving mine! The phone truly checks all of my boxes: front firing Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, headphone jack, storage expansion, HS Power Control to save battery life during gaming, wireless charging, all glass with aluminum frame, water resistant, 4k OLED 21:9, physical shutter button, and amazing cameras and pro apps dedicated for creators. Although I can take great photos in auto, I wanna be in complete control with my photos and videos, in which I prefer to look realistic than saturated. And they all look great on the 4K OLED display which I prefer over high refresh rate.
In the UK this is now under £700 on a contract which is excellent value. The original released last year was only £560 and I have been using on and off for nearly a year. It is a solid reliable phone with great updates and good value. Clearly, the new Xperia 1 is a step-up, so the extra fee over here is worth it. Thanks for your view as a pro-photographer.
@UC7iwxPMObw-n2A9VcCmg6Fg On O2 like I said. It's actually £721 until the beginning of October on second check. Makes you wonder what the 5 II will be with O2 when that comes out 17th September.
@@samsicles_jr Unlocked after your request it, takes 72 hours. Go for the near full amount with the smallest contract, cancel that and pay the remainder then request an unlock.
While would’ve liked to see a larger screen since I watch a lot of movies on my phones, I can’t really see anything else I’d like to see from this. I do love how it doesn’t do that curved glass nonsense like Samsung. I always get accidental touches with those. So the Xperia is pretty close to perfect. 🤔
And of course will be 4k and hopefully the upcoming snapdragon chipset supporting 4k with 120hz display Edit: it's rumored that sd875 will support 4k/120 display
First I wanted to tell you that you're amazing and loved your videos. I was searching for an honest review about this phone and came across you. I hope you answer my question: I'm gonna be buying a new phone in the next couple of days. I had the one plus 7t pro mclaren and it was a sick phone but I broke it :( one thing that bothered me a lot was the accidental touches with the curved screen. Right now I'm lost between this the note 20 ultra and the one plus 8 pro. I love how sony is approaching photography but I don't wanna pull photo pro on every picture I take or on social media stories. What do you suggest I should go with after you tried all these phones. Thank you. Btw I just subscribed and dropped a like.
I've been looking into Sony's phones as my next upgrade, as I'm not a big fan of the direction OnePlus is moving in. Your review really details what the phone is capable of, in my opinion. The explainations were excellent. I do have a couple questions though: Does the phone work well on U.S networks? You mentioned you were on Verizon, but I'm skeptical on the performance on T-Mobile. If you can elaborate on this, that would be great. My other question is if I don't have a professional camera, would Sony's phones be suitable in place for an actual camera? I've mostly been doing point-and-shoot, but if the Sony's camera is capable of both good point-and-shoot and DSLR-like camera quality in Pro Mode, I would love to have this set of cameras with me. I just subscribed because this review was much more comprehensive of the phone than I expected. I'm also really surprised thaty this video was unscripted, that's actually crazy to me compared to other phone review channels! If you're going to review the Xperia 5 ii as well, I greatly look forward to your review of that phone! Cheers!
Very good review with no gimmick..you were focusing on only facts and information ❤️ I am Sony fan since last 20 years but now #SonyMobile has shut in mobile business in India 😭 I have used Apple, Blackberry ,other android phones but Sony remains my primary device..😎 I have #xperiaxz3 which I got from Singapore two years back.
Thanks for this well detailed review of the 1 ii. I'm a proud owner myself, & i must say sony is way ahead on alot of the features equipped in this phone, but the camera isn't 1 of them. It'll perform well in well lit conditions, & will give you the most natural colors, but it's not gona outperform another device that uses computational photography when it comes to things like zoom, portrait, exposure & dynamic range in tough scenes & lowlight & details... Especially dynamic range. The manual mode will give you slightly better results than the auto mode if you use it right, but still won't give you a fully balanced & well rounded image as what computational magic would produce. I understand what & who sony was aiming for when they created this camera, but it's as if they got a bit carried away & forgot it was still a cellphone, & you won't be carrying around a laptop & tripod everywhere you go. The camera is great but it's not gona outperform computational photography, & i hope Sony adds in a night mode in a update soon. Because I still find myself having to turn to my note 20 ultra when I'm taking photos of tough scenes that requires proper HDR & exposure capabilities & night mode, portraits & zoom. But otherwise, it's a great phone overall with alot of leading capabilities & features, most of which is besides the performance & capabilities of the camera. Brilliant HDR display, proper LDAC support, front firing speakers, headphone jack, great speed.... Etc.
Wow you've been really energetic, been seeing you make the same or similar comments to any if not all of the recent reviews of the 1ii. You really love your computational photography don't you.
What i like about sony is they maintain the natural looks of the pic taken.... I always thought post processing is alright if the photos is appealing but there were times that you want to catch the reality but you end up with a fake looking photos... So prop to sony for that👍
Hwawei P40 pro has the largest sensor in the current flagships I think, followed by the Note 20 or the S20 Ultra. However the 48 and 108 megapixels on those sensors mean that the pixels are much smaller then the 12 mp of the xperia with a slightly smaller sensor.
Overall the Sony sensor is superior for a wide variety of reasons in my experience. I love the Note 20 ultra but I can't give it an edge other than 5X and 8k video which isn't that big a deal.
This phone would’ve been fantastic with a 5x optical zoom, 5G in the US and a better selfie camera. Xperia 5ii gets announced here in a couple of days, I’m curious to see if they throw exactly the same cameras in it. Honestly, from what I’ve seen from the still photographs out of this, the cameras to me seem...fairly weak, honestly (at least given all the hype). The cameras seem average at best to me, at least in terms of photos that don’t take advantage of the burst (landscapes and such).
Btw. I'll keep watching your videos, they're very informative and you seem to know what you're talking about. But I will make sure that I buy the right model with the right specs, which is a little difficult.
Sony Xperia 1 ii has the highest Pixel per Inch(PPI) smartphone in 2020. This makes it the most eye convenient phone in 2020 due to the sharpening image produced. Also, put in mind that this phone display producing 1 billion colors!!! which not provide in any flagship in 2020 until this day.
