Did you buy the International Version? And if so are you using it in the US? I am trying to figure out if the 5G International Version would work with 5G in the US.
@@Punisher2all Hi... I have the international version... but I'm not in US ... I'm in Europe... unfortunately in a region still without 5G ... but hopefully we'll get it before the end of the year.
I'm just a week in to using it and still learning. Your video was very helpful, thanks. So far I 'm liking it as a camera and phone/computer. I love the manual control you have with this unlike any other phone I saw when looking for a new phone.
Awesome vid. Super useful. I'm about to buy a 1ii so this was great to see what it can do. Actually it'd be awesome to see you do more vids around the topic of Xperia 1ii, particularly as it pertains to things like colour grading and filters and how you deal with certain limitations etc.
Thanks for a great overview of the 1 II functions. I'm out for the Xperia 5 II (probably) and I was checking RUclips for more in depth videos, like yours, that'll prove my point of where and how it could fit my workflow. ANd the 1 II and 5 II have same cameras... For the first, I don't have a phone, I run off of a company owned iPhone 11Max Pro, so I combine a SIM card from work and a eSIM for my private carrier in the same machine. Although I'm all Apple with my video and photo productions, I find it hard to color match the footage from my A7III and A5100 and that from the iPhone. It's a creamy 4K video but the footage is totally different when I bring it to FinalCut. Of course there are workarounds but then it takes extra time to tinker with it. My usual workflow is filming interviews, statements, mostly with those two Sonys one on each person involved and then the iPhone on a tripod or gimbal for some B-roll or sliding shots of the scene. So the idea with the Xperia 5 II is to get it for the video mostly, and I'm wondering how I can make the settings in these three devices match as much as possible. Not to mention how much I like the idea of having a great phone right in my pocket for some spontaneous shooting when I don't have my photo bag with me. The best and easiest setup for A7III and A5100 is to skip the Picture Profiles in the A7III because A5100 doesn't have those. I then have the same custom measured white balance on both as well as the Creative Styles set to Standard. This is easy to grade in post and since I always have great light it's a no brainer. But still the iPhone footage looks a bit washed out and has almost the reddish tint to it. Maybe I should use Filmic Pro or some other app instead of what's provided in the phone.. Thanks again for the video!
@@endtimesprophecylessons I don't think I've seen those. To be honest I kept the 5 II for only 6 months and then traded it for a used lens I needed for my other cameras. Later on I bought the Xperia 1 IV and I still use it for wide angle shots when filming interviews. It's also great as a phone, great screen. It gets quite warm at times which has been addressed in many reviews, but it doesn't degrade the performance. Cheers!
Great review of this phone! Thank you so much for adding the link to the full-res images and footage! I REALLY appreciate this. The images that you have in that folder, have they been post processed or are they just as they came out of the phone using their pro app?
Great camera/phone review! Coming from Mission Valley, I can attest to the beautiful photogenic scenery of San Diego. I have to say, for Photographer and Photo Enthusiasts, this phone makes total sense on all levels even cost. Take me into account, I bought an ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro. It has a great set of cameras and controls but fell a bit short of what I wanted in a "pro" family-cam point & shoot, so I ended up buying a Canon G1 X ii great camera with an awesome 1.5" sensor and the best OIS I've ever used for video. But... the cost for both and the clunckiness of having to carry both for simple family outings can be a bit of a pain. So if your able to eliminate multiple devices like Point & Shoot, Nintendo Switch, Tablet, etc. you made the correct buying decision. Let me know your thoughts...
Thanks for the download link and the work u put into them😊 Btw the camera sensors differ by supplier as well. The 24mm and 16mm are Sony sensors. The 70mm and front camera are Samsung-made
I saw that they sourced a sensor from Samsung, I didn't know which one it was though. That's surprising based on how many sensors Sony already manufacturers for other smartphones, that they outsourced one of them to Samsung. Either way, Samsung is a huge player in smartphones right now too
I preordered this phone back in June. Sadly I did not get the headphones but I'm not a huge Bluetooth music fan anyways. My carrier is Tmobile so on the.phone side in missing some functionality but I.knew that would be the case when I purchased the phone. The cameras were the main reason for getting the phone. So I'm hoping this camera set up will help revive my camera phone photog love. Ive only taken a few photos so far but ive been very satisfied with the results. I
Yeah, I've been very happy with the cameras so far too. I love the raw capabilities, and the burst modes are amazing for taking photos of my dog lol. Not to mention, I don't have to feel guilty any more for leaving my big camera at home, I know I'll still be able to get some top-notch photos and videos when I'm out and about.
Great video... Now how did you grade the footage and how do you properly export the footage! Been trying in premier... New to using premier... What are your export settings
I didn't do anything fancy. I just threw the footage in a timeline and graded it in Lumetri Color. I didn't grade it or export it to maintain any sort of HDR standard. To be able to grade it in HDR, it requires a lot of hardware, besides just the HDR monitor. So this was just exported using the H264 format at around 50mbps. Are you looking to try to do HDR?
Very nice and detailed look at this beast. The problem with the exposure goes for any phone today as far as exposure goes. Love the DIY ND filter setup.lol I was ready to commit to the Xperia 1 ii but I use portrait mode on my smartphones a lot and Sony’s inexplicable use of the main lens for portrait focal length and not the telephoto lens as the only option was a deal breaker for me. Phone of the year easily for me though despite that.
Yeah, the biggest downside for me was that only the 24 had the best sensor. Of course, I understand there's a reason why they couldn't have it on all three lenses, but it would have been really nice. The 70mm still has great image quality, the 24 is just insane though, and hard to compare!
Kaz Canning I definitely agree with you there. The 70mm is perfect for portraits though cause it’s similar to what OnePlus uses on the 7 Pro which I had for a year. The portrait mode shots I took of my kids were just great. Even better that OnePlus and Apple give you the two focal lengths for portraits. That’s all Sony needed to do there in my opinion.
Nice video bro btw what is the model name of the lg monitor thats behind u on the left of the video as it looks good and m in search of a good lg monitor for my office so asking
The model is the LG 27UL650-W 27. They're 27" 4k displays. They've been pretty good for me so far! Only thing I will mention, is that despite them claiming to be HDR, do not expect HDR performance out of them. Other than that, I love them.

Nice video. Sony's approach is good but is weak on dynamic range. I know they aim for natural looks, but I like the HDR capabilities & results you get on other flagships better.
This is cool, however the cameras for the 3 focal length with same sensors would be too expensive. Even with this, you're complaining about the price, what more with some of the largest sensors slapped on the back of the phone.
I completely understand. I know that sensor they have for the 24 is very impressive, especially paired with the high frame rates and auto focus. I would have just liked equal quality across the 3. I know they would've liked to do that too, but the costs would've been outrageous.

u hit it right on the money.. if Sony comes out with a XPERIA mark III they could add 3 similar size sensors however for the price there isn't a top tier phone in 2020 that launched under $1000 if ur buying it out right.. just to note the galaxy ultra is $2000 in my region if ur going through a carrier then it's discounted
I just wish the Cinema Pro app offered the option to shoot in 16:9. Most video cameras shoot in this format and I want to easily mix footage without the extra step of cropping.
Your sample clip confirmed my findings with the video, I can't get crispy video out of it. It falls apart when viewed on YT or bigger screens. I found the none cine-app has a sharper image but a bit bit too over-auto'd for my liking. I also discovered the non cine-app does not record correctly with an external mic - it seems to record both the phone and mic audio at the same time. Did you have any experience like this? Would love to use the video cam it but I can't seem to find a happy balance... thanks Also I used a Filter phone clip to get better exposures in daylight and it worked pretty good.
@@KazCanning My short cinematic film, "Haze", shot entirely on my Sony Xperia 1 MARK II using CinemaPro. Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/fsHOwBoYgOI/видео.html
Did you had problems using front lens? Mine in WhatsApp it basically takes 4 seconds before starting recording doing like a squeezing effect on the sides and top and bottom
Couldn't you just pop in hdr mode on the photo pro app to compensate for lack of dynamic range one single shot from a phone generally provides? Usually a high end phones' best friend is computational photography. The pixels do that very well. We're you using the photo pro app on all the comparisons because from what I've seen in other videos there is a difference in quality in files from the standard photo app when compared to the pro app.. Also, I wonder how these cameras stack up against the pixel 4/5, iPhone 11 and 12 pro, the p40 mate 40 pro and the note 20 ultra...
Hey! I'm trying to find out if they have added 4k 120 video to the 1ii in firmware since the 5ii came out. Let me know if you still use the phone and know the answer!
He's certainly right in my opinion. However if you're also interested in other things like gaming or watching media, there are a lot of reasons to get this phone over many of the others. (ie. hooking up a playstation controller to play fortnite/cod/etc, or streaming your Playstation to your phone)
Absolutely. I would've covered other aspects, but some of them tend to be outside of the typical topics I cover in my videos. I was simply going over some of the video and photo features I was interested in!
Hopefully i don't ruin the phone for you now but i notice on the videos on Google drive there is a very noticeable hiss or static noise, i had that issue on 2 devices from one store, both returned. now ordered on somewhere else in hoping it was the batch. Do you know if you have an early batch or a later one? This got me a little worried for mine cause this is really the only phone atm that ticks all my boxes 😅 headphone jack, sd card etc etc It seems like the camera causes the top speaker to make noise which then gets picked up by the mic, but only with the rear cameras though the selfie cam and pure audio recordings sounds fine :)
I honestly hadn't noticed that, with most of the videos I shoot, I never use internal camera audio. But good ear! Yes, the phone I got was pre-ordered on day 1of availability. I'll have to check a little bit more in-depth I wonder if it's easily fixable through firmware?
@@KazCanning it seems as it could be a ground issue or something simlar between the rear cameras and the top speaker and possibly mic, the sound is gone while in front facing or with audio only recordings, i would doubt it can be fixed properly with firmware but i would guess they could filter it out like they do with wind??
Great review, but I believe your phone is faulty - the over exposed video is not normal - there really seems to be an issue with the camera - I have seen video footage were this over exposure was not present - it was the first thing I noticed when looking at the video - soemthning wrong there, at first I thought you hadn't set it up correctly but then you clarified that later - even in your studio when you turned the video camera on it was clearly evident there was something wrong
I mentioned several times in the video, I generally film on the verge of the footage being blown out. The phone isn't faulty, you can manually change all of the settings in the app
@@KazCanning Have you tried adding your footage on a HLG timeline and changing your workflow to Rec709 or just putting a HLG100% lut on it? My footage always looked blown out and exposed when i sent it to people or watched it on tv, even after "correcting" the video, but I put a HLG100% lut on and its not actually overexposed.
I do understand that the video recording has 10-bit color depth, how about the jpeg and raw files bit depth? How many stops can you recover from the raw files?
Can t you do all that with an Iphone 11 Pro, shooting raw, using cinema apps, just download the right app from the apple store for a few bucks. Im under the impression the iphone cameras are more capable. I could be totally wrong though. Great footage!
20 FPS on the main camera is 100 % accurately ? And how do you think about hdr capability of this phone that so limited and narrow when compare to other phone ? Thank you
Wow! I can't believe the phone I'm holding has those capabilities! I paid £750 new so I'm not hugely disappointed but it's a very hard learning curve for me. I've been used to using a point and shoot, over processing Samsung and never understood settings but fully appreciate beautiful photographs. If anyone can give me a starting point I'd be really grateful. Should I start with raw or jpeg? Should I use full Manuel, P or S? And can having the histogram help me find my settings?
One of the best camera-phones of 2020, no doubts. But think that Sony should make something better for this particular price and very strong competition. Just to many cut corners for the price to my opinion.
For audio recording, I would say it's passable. Coming from a pro video background, it's nothing that I would ever lean on as truly great audio. I have a link in the description for a bunch of raw video clips that will give you a good idea of what the audio recording sounds like though. For listening to music, I think it's great. Sony brags that this phone has High-Resolution audio, the phone also supports Dolby audio, and it has an AI program to make "low res" audio sound better. I haven't had any complaints with the audio at all, and the fact that the phone has a headphone jack makes it way more useful in more situations in terms of listening to music.
I have the 5 II which have the same cameras. For a phone the pictures are great. I bought the phone because of the cameras. I think Sony has the best cameras. I dont have an 8k TV, so for ME Sony is better than Samsung S20.
I just didn't have the time in this video without going even longer. However, the clips that I did grade, most were used earlier in the video, and there are some of the same clips available for download. If there's a clip you would like to check out for yourself, just let me know the timecodes and I'll drop it in the google drive link!

Right, it's not aesthetically pleasing but the result is excellent, the overexposure has been greatly controlled.
Would love to use the video cam it but I can't seem to find a happy balance... thanks Also I used a Filter phone clip to get better exposures in daylight and it worked pretty good.
nice explanation thank you mr
No problem!
Nice! Great video and presentation 👍 I'm working on a short cinematic film with mine
Thank you! Let me know when you finish it, I'd like to check it out!
@@KazCanning you're welcome bro! I'll let you know when it's done for sure👍
@@KazCanning My short cinematic film, "Haze", shot entirely on my Sony Xperia 1 MARK II using CinemaPro.
Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/fsHOwBoYgOI/видео.html
🥰🥰 Xperia 1 ii 💪😎🇨🇱
Sony leader!!!
I've looked for weeks to try and find a good comparison of this phone to an actual camera. B R A V O
Hey! I'm trying to find out if they have added 4k 120 video to the 1ii in firmware since the 5ii came out. Let me know if you still use the phone and know the answer!
I have been keeping the phone updated with all of the Sony Xperia updates, and it does not support 4k 120fps.
They just did
He's certainly right in my opinion.
Beautiful phone and filming capability
Can you upload grading video of xperia mark 2
Look forward to the hands-on review of the new Xperia 5 ii.
This got me a little worried for mine cause this is really the only phone atm that ticks all my boxes 😅 headphone jack, sd card etc etc
It seems like the camera causes the top speaker to make noise which then gets picked up by the mic, but only with the rear cameras though the selfie cam and pure audio recordings sounds fine :)
I honestly hadn't noticed that, with most of the videos I shoot, I never use internal camera audio. But good ear! Yes, the phone I got was pre-ordered on day 1of availability. I'll have to check a little bit more in-depth I wonder if it's easily fixable through firmware?
@@KazCanning it seems as it could be a ground issue or something simlar between the rear cameras and the top speaker and possibly mic,
the sound is gone while in front facing or with audio only recordings,
i would doubt it can be fixed properly with firmware but i would guess they could filter it out like they do with wind??
Where did you shoot the video with the girl and the dog? Near SD I'm assuming
That was filmed up in Mt. Laguna, near big laguna lake. It's our favorite spot in San Diego! We even got married in that area last year!!
@@KazCanning awesome thanks I'll take a little drive out there got my sony a6000 and Xperia 1 ii 🙌
It's not faulty, it is overexposure especially outdoor under the sun, many youtuber have the same issue.
Which app do you use to view your photos on the phone? Because not all apps can view the raw files
Heard about this phone front camera is not great compared with other phones of similar price . Did you test it?
If I can get it around 800 instead or 700 - is that a more fair buy?
Can t you do all that with an Iphone 11 Pro, shooting raw, using cinema apps, just download the right app from the apple store for a few bucks. Im under the impression the iphone cameras are more capable. I could be totally wrong though. Great footage!
great review. I think Sony is on a promising way, but still not there yet and for what they offer it is a bit too pricy
i very like this phone, Sony Xperia 1 ii
20 FPS on the main camera is 100 % accurately ? And how do you think about hdr capability of this phone that so limited and narrow when compare to other phone ?
Thank you
It is better for photos and videos than Huawei p30pro?
And can having the histogram help me find my settings?
m.ruclips.net/video/yU_BqZ7KvlI/видео.html watch his videos, he goes through some tips.
sample footage straight out of the phone with a gimbal..right?
Some of the footage was on a gimbal, some of it was on a tripod.
One of the best camera-phones of 2020, no doubts. But think that Sony should make something better for this particular price and very strong competition. Just to many cut corners for the price to my opinion.
Xperia 5 maybe
Does it have option of 1080p 240fps or 1080p 120fps ?
would you say the phone being better than iphone pro?
How about the audio quality when listening to music or shooting a video?
For audio recording, I would say it's passable. Coming from a pro video background, it's nothing that I would ever lean on as truly great audio. I have a link in the description for a bunch of raw video clips that will give you a good idea of what the audio recording sounds like though.
For listening to music, I think it's great. Sony brags that this phone has High-Resolution audio, the phone also supports Dolby audio, and it has an AI program to make "low res" audio sound better. I haven't had any complaints with the audio at all, and the fact that the phone has a headphone jack makes it way more useful in more situations in terms of listening to music.
Latest update gives 240fps slomo how does that work for you?
Really, when did the update for 240 FPS slowmo happen?
Umda video
Sony 💪❤☝️❤💪
Where is night mode?
Subbed btw
I hope You will review Xperia 1 III soo n 🤠
Anyone swapped over to Xperia from P30 Pro? Thats my concern. Does Xperia have waterfall mode ?
SONY is the BEST!!!
It is more camera then a smartphone 😁
I have the 5 II which have the same cameras.
For a phone the pictures are great.
I bought the phone because of the cameras.
I think Sony has the best cameras.
I dont have an 8k TV, so for ME Sony is better than Samsung S20.
Fire
sooc the video looks overexposed. i wanted to see you grade that to see how much ca be recovered, but i was disappointed
I just didn't have the time in this video without going even longer. However, the clips that I did grade, most were used earlier in the video, and there are some of the same clips available for download. If there's a clip you would like to check out for yourself, just let me know the timecodes and I'll drop it in the google drive link!
Wished i had one
Seemed very blown out...in the first video section
