    I like Nightcrawler as he is. It's nice to have a character with the religious angle being a core part of his personality with out it being over the top.

    I prefer that Nightcrawler stayed with marvel because even though it seems like a cool idea to be in the DC Universe he would've ended up as some obscure DC character long forgotten.

    The fact that he was almost a literal demon is especially hilarious considering the character as he exists is a devout Catholic.

      actually just in case anyone wants to know nightcrawler's dad is azazel which is a half demon, azazel's dad whose name i forgot is a full demon, nightcrawler's and azazel's teleportation ability does not come from a mutation, that is their natural demon ability, also just to throw it out there nightcrawler's mother is mistyque, making him a half demon and half mutant and that's where his bleu skin comes from

    • @andrebetita
      @andrebetita 8 лет назад +19

      It's probably by design that they made him a devout Catholic despite (even now) looking demonic. It's a great irony and contrast, and makes for a very interesting character.

    • @fantasyconnect
      @fantasyconnect 8 лет назад +7

      +Rogelio Melendez Yep, his mutation is actually his ability to become one with the darkness, okay that was a bit extreme, he can become a living shadow as long as he's inside the shade.

    'funny looking' ? He's the reason I got into comics, He's always been my favourite, I loved how he looked right from the start( although admittedly for me the start was when John Byrne was drawing him ) . Cockrum created him, Byrne made him gorgeous, Davis made him sexy.

    • @fantasyconnect
      @fantasyconnect 8 лет назад +10

      Marvel is more grounded in reality, batman shouldn't be able to fight superman and win, especially when only three or four kryptonians have been to the planet at all seriously, that's not enough for him to go on to create kryptonian countermeasures.

    • @starxstary2889

      Clark Kent (Superman) got defeated by Alicia a woman that teleports in a puff of smoke, Another woman that disappears in a Puff of smoke excaped the Flash more than once and on another episode is defeated by Iris that had no powers. How is Iris that has no powers better at catching criminals than Flash? Both of those teleporting characters were far less powerful than Nightcrawler.

    DC: No! That looks too silly.
    Marvel: Hell yeah!!! BAMF! BAMf!!
    Guess things haven't changed that much. DC still insists on being serious and Marvel has Howard the duck and Squirel Girl running around.

    • @fantasyconnect
      @fantasyconnect 8 лет назад +2

      That's why I like marvel, but DC still has some of the greatest silly characters, mostly because they are so out of place it's just funnier.

    • @catlawyerwilldefendfortrea6038
      @catlawyerwilldefendfortrea6038 8 лет назад +1

      I liked some stuff from DCYou. Like Dr Fate.
      I don't actually mind a serious universe. But the the usual problem with DC is that they keep trying to say what they are not instead of focusing on what they are. That echoes in all the movies as well

    • @RubberyCat
      @RubberyCat 8 лет назад +3

      Let's see... DC has Plastic Man, and he's pretty silly, I guess. However, Marvel might also still have Impossible Man or any of his relatives running loose as well. Impossible Man, the only being who's homeplanet is known for having given Galactus a case of cosmic indigestion ..... ^_^

      Debashish Mahapatra
      It is in a pretty old Fantastic Four Comic, and it sounds funnier than it is. Essentially, Galactus is about to attack Counter-Earth, having an air-walking herald ... or rather a robot version of the herald, guiding him to it, and eventually a planet named "Pop-up" offers itself instead.

    One of my favourite parts about the x-men is the international aspect. It not only is nicer for a wider audience but to me it adds a nice bit of realism and feeling the global reach they were going for with the idea of a next evolution of all humanity and heroes that can come from anywhere. I also love the way they later made Nightcrawler religious to go against his look and yet never made it seem forced or hokey or over the top. It was simply part of who he was as a character.

  • @fenpirikala

    +NerdSync I really love and appreciate your work, guys, especially with this Nightcrawler video, who is not only my personal favourite character of the X-Men but also a step aside from the usually despiction of Germans in comics as either Nazis or other kinds of mad masterminds (such as Red Skull, Baron Zemo and to some extent Magneto). I guess what makes Nightcrawler so unique and likable in the comics is his constant wish to be on good terms with his team mates (I really liked the early interactions between him and Kitty Pryde, because even though she was incredibly uncomfortable around him, he kept being the charming fuzzball he is), which I don't think would have been protrait by DC the really gentle and charming way Marvel does then and nowadays, since DC is more action-driven with less focus on the characters. Also, but this is probably just me, but I like how he uses a moderate amount of German bits and phrases now and then and actually make great puns like "Guten Tag- You're it!", which is still one of my favourite quotes by him (but again, I think I only enjoy it that much because I am a German native speaker.) ^-^" One little complaint about the video though; this is not the German flag in 1:16. :/

    I had no idea he might have been a DC hero, and now that I know... I couldn’t be happier that he was a member of the X-Men. My earliest exposure to comics was an Avengers comic, but a few short years later I bought #213, X-Men, Wolverine vs. Sabertooth. Still one of my. Favorite covers. Loved the stories and the characters, and the art was captivating. When I saw Nightcrawler he was an instant favorite. When he joined Excalibur I started buying that title too, He’s still in my top 5 favorites, with Spidey leading the pack. Truly awesome.

X-Men is BY FAR my favorite title... I think Nightcrawler would have work in DC but not only he is an X-Men he is one of my favorite X-Men of all time, making him a MUST in this book. I always thought of "The Creeper" as a DC love child of Nightcrawler and the Joker... creepy... i know XD

    My introduction to Kurt was super religious side character and I never found that interesting. But my dad insisted Nightcrawler was one of the best X-Men (alongside Kitty Pryde) and kept telling me stories until I eventually caved and read a couple of comic stories about him. I can never say that he'll be my favorite but I've always found his acceptance of his appearance to be touching and heartwarming. Unlike many other mutants with external mutations, Kurt never seems to draw attention to it and makes it "normal." He seems to have his fair amount of angst about it, sure, but he always comes out the other side and let's others know that it's perfectly acceptable to feel bad about your appearance sometimes, it's a part of life, the point is to not live in that mood.

    Interesting. Even though I am a Legion fan I hadn't heard this bit. Thanks. Your verbal link between the Outsiders and the Legion of Substitute Heroes is probably off a bit though. The Legion of Substitute Heroes was first introduced as a secret team of Legion rejects way back in Adventure Comics 306 in 1963 and have been regular guest stars ever since. This would be the group that the cartoon referred to, not the Outsiders (although you did say "like", not based on).
    The other major connection concerning Dave Cockrum between the Legion and the X-men is of course the Shi'ar Imperial Guard who first appeared in X-men 107 in 1977. All of the original members of the Guard were doppelgangers for Legion members featuring almost identical powers and updated costumes that Dave had intended to use for the Legion but left before that happened.

    There was also a storyline that made Mystique as nightcrawler's mother. Hence the blue skin. She went absent knowing she was pregnant, lived at a church / monastery with monks. Once he was born, she left in hopes that he didn't follow her path as she did with magneto. Hence why he gained the very modest and polite personality. He was then discovered when he kept traveling outside the monastery under a hood.

    DC's loss was definitely Marvel's gain. Nightcrawler has always been my favourite X-man. He had to deal with mutant bigotry even more than Beast, yet he managed to maintain a lovable personality throughout his life. I was deeply saddened by his death, but thankful (and forgiving) when Marvel came to their senses and brought our fuzzy blue elf back. A wise decision.
    X2: United was my favourite of the X-Men movie franchise. And after seeing X-Men: Apocaplypse, I am very impressed with how Kodi Smit-McPhee brought a younger Nightcrawler into the franchise. Well done!
    Growing up, I had to watch DC. When I was finally introduced to Marvel, I made the switch with no regrets. If they had kept Nightcrawler, I'd probably still be watching DC.

    I always thought that whilst Nightcrawler is a mutant he is also technically a a demon since he is a Neyaphem. I was always under the impression that in the marvel universe demons were just stories based on Neyaphem (same going for angles and Cheyarafim) sort of like how stories of the 4 horse men were based off of tales told of Apocalypse

      He's a quarter demon, all Neyaphem have demonic heritage,

      What seems wrong to me is to see the flag of the Russian Federation associated with Colossus, and not the red hammer-and-sickle flag of the USSR.

      huh, you're right. now I want to know what country's flag that actually is... If it is actually red, black and yellow under that purple filter it doesn't match any european flag that I know of?

    Marvel did just fine with him. His interplay and friendship with Wolverine is one of the highlights of the early X-Men stories, while his leadership of Excalibur was great.

    Legion of Superheros was an okay show that had a spectacular ending. That last arc and last episodes were really dark, especially thinking of a Kids WB show and extremely well done. I'd argue that it was a much better finally than any of the shows had before it which includes Batman TAS, Batman Beyond, and Justice League.
    I don't know if the ending makes up for the parness of the rest of the show, but it was really great and would make you want to go back and rewatch it.

    Nightcrawler's costume has always bugged me: I kept seeing it as a take off of the LSH hero (insert their name here later) costume from the seventies. Now, I finally know why!

    It's not too late to retcon add , a little history to nightcrawler by saying their was a character named the Intruder in the circus who could be like a acrobat teacher and part time hero who nightcrawler had a father and son like falling out with.

    Actually, for a while I've thought Nightcrawler would make a ton of sense as a Batman style hero: Operating in kind of a dark, gothic enviroment, mostly at night (hence the name) and basically being an urban legend to most people.

    I like how a lot of girls have the hots for him both in the comics and in real life. It just makes you want to tell DC to never judge a book by its cover and rub it in their face.

    Red Devil is like a better azazel/Nightcrawler also, fun fact time! there's a mutant subspecies called nyaraphem (correct that spelling as I'm not sure) that are demonlike in appearance along with another subspecies the cheyaraphim though only one of those has had an official appearance (hints hint, he has giant wings and is one of the horsemen of apocalypse)
