I do like your introductory courses to Russian, seems to target exclusively native English speakers however, English is my third language, so I certainly am not going to code Cyrillic letters into mind through English, but I'm interested in learning Russian for a few reasons, basing myself on my first and possibly second language, so I'll do that locally now :)

For me, as an American, the best part of her lessons are telling us to put our tongue on the back of our front teeth. I have been using multiple resources in my endeavor of learning the Russian language. That tip has been especially beneficial. It seems to be the connection that was missing for me.
Beyond that, her methods are logical and methodical. One of the best teachers I've come across.

    • @mojopait4255
      @mojopait4255 6 лет назад +5

basically letter is the building block to create sound. first I want to talk about the word, biathlon (english), over here we write biatlon compare to биатлон. However your "o" in биатлон, deep sounded where the "o" in biatlon is light sounded. Interesting. Over here we use double consonant when writing words originating from ARAB word like GHaib, that would obviously different from Gaib, the consonant H modified the consonant G. I hope this help.

Russians really do NOT care about how you say anything or when you struggle. I have had to learn Russian, German, and French.... Germans are rarely patient (maybe friends and family are, but the general public does not appreciate dealing with your ineptitude) and aren't able to understand you if you don't nail the phonetics of every word. Russians are so chill and so helpful and gentle and lovely about your efforts. I was so impressed and have found learning the language so much easier because of that acceptance. Russians though, are just generally really lovely people in my opinion :D Thanks for being a great teacher!

Thanks RUclips for the recommendation! I've never watched or learned Russian through videos in my life. From zero to hero lets go!

Daria, you're such an excellent teacher, and you have a quirky human touch that reminds me of all my best teachers, and says that we are on the same wavelength. Yay for making С a snake and Р a lion! (Not a side-boob. Р absolutely was never a side-boob. Totally expunged from my memory.)
Also thank you for showing me how to hand-write all the letters free-hand, without slavishly copying the printed fonts or using the dreaded Russian Cursive! I know the Greek alphabet from maths, so it helped to see my old friends lambda, pi, phi, chi, zeta and rho in modern dress.
Like you I'm not sure about your handwritten И and Й. I think I will write them classically in my notebook. (I too have learned that writing something down by hand is the best way to learn it).
Duolingo is fine for practicing and reinforcement but totally falls down on *explaining* things, so I am very glad to had found this channel. You are explaining all the things that were frustrating me with the alphabet, such as vowel reduction and how consanants can be softened by the following vowel.
As a native English speaker I would second what other commenters have said: your English is *exceptionally* fluent and easy to follow. Are you from a bilingual family perhaps?
In lesson one you make the very important points of defining goal and time, so I thought I'd put them down here. I'm good with Italian, French and German for reference.
Goal 1: Because she has learned my language (to a very high level), I want to reciprocate and learn hers.
Goal 2: Learning a new language gives me better cultural insight. Always up for more of that.
Goal 3: I'm intruiged by the grammar of human languages and love to investigate their grammars. Moving from the Latin family to the Slavic family is irresistible!
Re time, well I'm in London in soft lockdown. Got all the time I need.

How has learning Russian been going for you? For the reasons you mentioned I learned Arabic. It was an absolute blast learning a language so far from my native English. However my mother's side of the family left the USSR, and I want to learn it because it's part of my heritage

    श-Щ
    ष-Ш
    द-Д
    त-Т
    And many more...
    Thank you so much

Hey, I'm from Egypt I'm 11 and I can tell that her lessons really work. In Egypt, we don't have hard letters so it's much harder to pronounce. But lemme tell ya something. Russian is not really easy and not really hard it in between if you learn more. Tbh I'm learning Russian and Korean. Learning languages is my hobby. It's more like an obsession with languages. I try to learn a lot of languages for no damn reason. I think learning a new language makes your knowledge intelligent. If you're not learning any language I'm not calling you stupid. I'm just saying my point of view. hope you understand. :)
