      It is not Russian alphabet and never was !
      Also you can't even pronounce the letters ,you are adding the sound of Ь ,which makes it sound really strange.

It’s a really cool language but I can’t think of many scenarios where I would use it. I feel like I would have to specifically search out for videos or people to communicate with. I see tons of Russian stuff but although I have been seeing a lot of Greek comments recently. I can sound everything out but I have no idea what a lot of words mean still.

    I remember learning all this back in 2019 when I tried to learn Russian. Lost touch with the language for whatever reason but really got back into it back in March or so. Certainly remember being surprised then that I could still read Cyrillic and that it had stuck with me, especially since I was still in school in 2019 and having to learn German.
    Still don't understand the distinction between "Ш" and "Щ" though, is it just that one is formed towards the back of the mouth and the other in the front? I imagine the difference between "Большой" and "Больщой" isn't going to make any Russian question what I meant, and I think as a foreigner I'd probably get a pass, but it would still be nice to try and get it right.

    • @RussianLevel1
      @RussianLevel1  Год назад +1

      "Ш" is similar to the English "sh" sound, as in "shoe."
      "Щ" is a bit trickier for English speakers. It's somewhat like "shch" in "fresh cheese," but the tongue placement is different.
      You're right that mispronouncing these sounds might not drastically affect understanding, especially if the context is clear.

    Really great aid for learning the Russian alphabet..
    The only thing I find unhelpful, is the individual letter sounds in the words being taught, are said too quickly, for me to say them clearly with the speaker. This is very discouraging and frustrating. Just 2 seconds slower, would make a big difference to the ease of learning and comprehension. Remember, many of the Russian alphabet letters are very new sounds which the English-speaking tongue must learn and get used to forming comfortably and accurately. .

    My mom forced me to try and learn spanish on duolingo so i tested out the mechanics in Russian and overall its very easy. The sounds line up with American words as well as when they're strung together, its just a little difficult memorizing that similar letters do not have the same sounds as English letters

      its a funny error, cause its the way J is pronounced in some slavic countries which uses occidental alphabet, or I think so at least. J was pronounced same as I and same as Y before introducion of differences. in some countries Y is more like a SH, and some like J in modern english, thus demonstrating the original usage and ulterior distortion, like check how J is pronounced in portuguese.

      in my opinion the problem resides in trying to learn a language by reading, you are meant to learn the language by hearing, and remembering how each word is supposed to be written, take the example of spanish, most spanish native speakers has a problen chosing when to use b or v, cause there is no relation in the sound. so the only way is to remember how its written, moreover, many times, people uses the sound of B in words that are written with V causing more problem. many people even have problem, cause in some parts of south america, there is no real difference in how Y and LL are pronounced in many words, then many times they write them wrong.
