@Alynn Yzy I'm Chinese too. I feel like it is easier to learn Russian if you know both English and Chinese. It seems that the Russian Alphabet (Cyrillic right?) have a lot in common with the Chinese ones. And a lot of the words seem to be sort of derivatives from English. I'm not sure. Am I right?

I am so happy! I was dreading the topic of gender as I was expecting it would be a similar mess to french or german. I'm so glad it makes so much more sense in russian. These courses (so far) are turning out to be easier than I was expecting them to be (and more fun!). Russian sounded so complicated to me when I didn't understand any of it.
I started learning russian purely as a challenge to myself and was half expecting to give up before even mastering the alphabet. After these 4 courses my mindset has completely changed to "Wow, I'm pretty sure I can actually do this!" and my motivation could not be higher. You're a very talented teacher Daria! Thank you for helping me achieve this self-confidence in my abilities!

This may be an old video but it's where I'm up to in the series. I started learning Russian at least four years ago (actually started learning bits and pieces for Cosplaying of all things) But been semi-seriously learning for maybe two. I'm currently at University studying history so haven't ever really been able to focus on my Russian learning consistently as I'd like to. Since the Covid 19 lockdown began in the UK I have been trying to work on my Russian learning as part of an attempt to keep my brain busy since I could be looking at a life based at home for as long as till next February (my Uni term has recently finished and they are considering our first term from sept. to dec. being totally online). I just wanted to say that I found these videos a few days ago and I have been going through a lesson each morning and then doing the practise from the blog. I have been amazed at how much more I am managing to get my head around things than I was learning from books and websites alone. You explain things very well and being able to understand things only makes me want to work on the language more and more. It is early days in terms of really getting to grips with the language but my dream of taking a basic Russian exam so I can add Russian speaking to my CV is seeming more likely than it was before. Thank you for your amazing lessons!

I was confused with племянник because you said it means nephew and племянница is a girl nephew 😂 I mean 'nephew' is male. Did you mean "a niece"? 😀
Thank you BTW your videos are helpful!

And no wonder, it's an Indo-European language, and we have a common base. Of course, over the past millennia, it has become different, but still a lot of words can be understood simply by the sound.

Same in Japanese, it's usually ocha, cha, or chai. Also brown is chairo, literally meaning tea colour

I love your lessons and your sense of humour which appears mildly self deprecating but confidence and authority underlies the lessons.
It's the first time i've learned another language and am able to take it in with relative ease. That is a first for me learning anything since high school.
    Thankyou

My Mother (MAMA) was a Teacher for kids of 9-10 yrs age. I totally respect you for what you do and the un-known sacrifices you have to make, or have made, in order to educate kids and adults alike. I could listen to you all day long. Your voice is beautiful and very friendly. The way you communicate makes me feel so at ease and comfortable. I have been enjoying learning Russian so much, from you. CPACNbA (I think you get what I mean there haha). What you are doing here makes the world such a beautiful place to live and travel in, because it informs us of how there are still beautiful and kind people everywhere you wish to look
