In different circumstances he probably wouldn't stand a chance against Ahsoka, but he was defending and used the superior reach and power. Excellently choreographed fight IMO. Well, where Baylan and Ahsoka were fighting there was a console transmitting the calculations... Baylan couldn't defend both, but Ahsoka got tunnel vision. I'm not sure that was intentional, but it fits the themes so well that it is a happy accident if it wasn't.
He kind of reminds me of Sir Christopher Lee's Count Dooku, in a way. Stevenson's Baylan Skoll carries himself with such gravitas, an almost regal air of nobility, strength and confidence. And even though he seems fully determined to walk his path no matter what, there is also some sort of sad, sentimental, melancholic resignation to it.
Definitely feeling more Qui Gon vibes than Dooku. From the uses of the Force, the introspective melancholy aspect. Feels like he is “listening” to the will of the Force in his own way. Lightsaber style a bit less flashy than Qui-Gon’s, but doesn’t rely on the mostly straightforward beat down cause I’m taller and stronger than my opponent style that Vader uses.
@@paulbaerwald8055 if baylan knew of Anakin, there should be a good chance he might have known qui gon. Hopefully dooku also. It just made me think of dooku, and qui gon also, being his apprentice. I really hope there is a connection there somewhere. I'm loving his character, which is a rare thing for me lately
It was a tremendous loss for the Star Wars universe. I love his lightsaber technique. No silly flash or spinning it everywhere, straight to the point blocking blasters.
@@thedude925that style reminds me of the strong style in Jedi Academy- at least in the stance, though the Jedi Academy version suffered from highly telegraphed attacks that Baylan doesn't quite show at all, despite also conveying a lot of strength behind his strikes.
Baylan is Dooku without the Emperor pulling his strings. That he doesn't want to kill Ahsoka, I think, is due to him recognizing in her a kindred spirit: someone who walked away from the Jedi because she saw the flaws in their vision. The "there are so few Jedi left" line is a red-herring because he knows she walked away and is thus not Jedi. As to his motivations, I would predict that he wants Thrawn back to challenge the New Republic, because he already sees that it is badly flawed, making the same arrogant mistakes as before, and is in need of being tested again. I suspect he has Shin as an apprentice not because she is a follower of his philosophy, but because he saved her and is giving her the chance to chart her own course.
One thing I suspect is that he refers to Ashoka as a Jedi because he views her as a true Jedi. Someone living by the ideals of what the Jedi were suppose to be.
The character himself works because he is (finally) not some mustache twirling Sith Lord seeking power for its own sake, but an antagonist who genuinely thinks he's serving the greater good. He likely understands all too well why Ahsoka would walk away from the Order. It's one thing to have an antagonist who's easy to sympathize with, it's another thing entirely to see one who completely empathizes with the protagonist (even if their goals and motivations a diametrically apposed). Stevenson does a BRILLIANT job bringing all of that out in Baylan.
@abduldinero6363that and he's not a true Sith to begin with as you have to be anointed by the previous Sith Lord. He also welds an orange saber which does not fall in line with sith ideologies.
Exactlyy.. hes very mature in that way as well.. and grown up about it.. that just shows the sheer depth/weight of his character. In fact this is what I do now too. I may not agree with other people but I know where they come from.. this takes a new level of understanding/strength of character.
@abduldinero6363 He's also very likeable character, reminds me much of rings of power. where sauron was likeable but the other was annoying (galadriel). ahsoka/anakin (annoying folk/weak folk who were simply PRIVILEDGED that way etc). made chosen one etc. like if in another time wishes someone to be chosen one it would be baylan.. He's also much very responsible for his own actions.. too.. and consequences of them (far-reaching consequences even). hence why he knows of anakin/ahsoka. but also personal life as well. there's what happened and then theres what people DESERVE.. but see sad soles who deserves it more/most out of anyone, but unfortunately other powers prevailed/came on top (like the jedi). but he's not an otherly wanker should say. hes in depth of thought/with depth of thought who maybe wasn't given proper chance to have his voice so on..
You hit the nail. We've now had Palpatine as the main villain for 9 movies and he's is exactly that: A mustasche twirling Sith Lord. Vader had the painful broken man who was eventually redeemed (and we see Anakin slowly falling and becomming broken aswell). But Baylon is just as you say a villain who is convinced he's doing the right thing. The same reason Thrawn was liked by fans. He was highly capable of evil, cruelty etc but in the comics we see he had his reasons: He believed that the highly militaristic empire is the only thing that can fight the Yuuzhan vong. Why he want's Thrawn back in this series could be something similar?
:((((( :'((((((((. I want to make a momument for him once this is done.. if it meant making a coffin made of gold and marble and all of that.. and placing him in a special archive.
Yup. Sad that he didn't live to see how positive his entrance into Star wars was recived. And as or right now he's the best villain in Star wars since Vader.
Wish we could see more for sure, so many roles were for the better with him in the shoes for them. Truly rest in peace, and power. I hope he is feeling/seeing the responses to this latest one. Definitely takes the bag for me, not just because he passed on, but because he made a perfect opposite to Ahsoka character dynamics imo.
They can't kill him for season 1; filming was completed a year ago before he died and was completing post-production when he passed away. If Floni intended to re-shoot, the series would have been delayed for an extra period of time. Ray did mention in an interview at SW celebration that his character is still evolving (meaning that his character was still alive and was coming back in season 2). Dave has a big job ahead trying to re-write, re-cast, and re-introduce a new character to replace this. It's just tragic.
@@nezarecdiscipleofthewitnes3823 no way should they ever try this. The character is made by Rays acting skills, if theres no ray then its just someone trying to do a bad impression of ray.
I like how he isn’t like cartoonishly evil, just a merc and he has honour too, he could have easily killed Sabine but he kept his word to her and even stopped his apprentice from killing her
Episode 4 made me stand up and really take notice of Baylan's character. I absolutely loved the duel between him and Ahsoka, especially how one would take a stance, the other would choose a counter stance, and then the other would change again, just like a Kendo match between two Samurai.
His passing is really sad, I remember watching him at the Star Wars celebration earlier this year and he was just so happy about being in the Ahsoka series and couldn't wait for the fans to watch it ... This man really looked like a good living guy and a passionate, it's a big loss for everyone to not have him around anymore
he brings the lawful Evil back to the Sith. You can tell hes a gentleman warrior. You can tell he still has compassion and empathy. he fights with honor and even laments that he has to kill Ashoka. We haven't seen that in an "evil" star wars character in a long time. hes almost like a Dark Obi-Wan and I love it.
Even though we may not know Baylan's origin story, it seems like Ray does, and he is able to translate that into an incredible performance on the screen. I don't see how they can possibly recast this character either for future episodes.
I really respected him a lot. even though was a sith. well both actor and character. there was real depth to him, and both.. somehow now I will always seem them as the same person/guy. also incrediblyyyyy smartttt. way more smarter than I, for suree. Im buying a character model after him, he's only model that I will have in my room. he's suchhh as sound characterr.... really will be missed.. in fact I feel weight, crushig upon me right now. and I haven't even watched all the episodes yet.
I was iffy when I heard he was a fallen Jedi. Now after watching these first few episodes he’s amazing. He’s so well written, still has that Jedi mentality. Didn’t want to kill Ashoka, and both times he’s drawn his blade was out of how he saw self defense. It also seems that’s Shin’s saber is getting more red while his is still that orange which I can hope will start to become lighter
I didn't know he had passed away. And it was so long ago. Dang, I was so looking forward to seeing more of him. You are absolutely right, he steals scenes with ease.
Will never forget his portrayal of Titus Pullo in Rome; such a legend. While for me Ahsoka has been a little disappointing thus far, his portrayal of Baylan as a dark grey Jedi has been by far the most interesting in the show. I especially liked his silver tongued talk down of Sabine in E04; good writing that was acted out well. I (somewhat selfishly) hope Ray's premature passing doesn't leave us with an unsatisfying conclusion to his character. Thirteenth forever! RIP
He has the most commanding presence in a Star Wars show to date. His fighting style is unlike anything we’ve seen, it’s big and powerful but with amazing sense of grace and respect for his opponent. No flashy moves, no acrobatics, no over reliance on the force, yet surprisingly quick and agile for his size and age. Ahsoka never really struggled with her previous opponents, taking on Sith Lords and Inquisitors with relative ease. Baylon, however, was just toying with her for the first half of the fight. He could have killed her at any point, but he respected her enough to put up a fair fight. It wasn’t until she knocked out his apprentice that Baylon decided enough was enough and ended the fight. He may have lost his way but his honor is very much intact.
Really started to pay attention to Ray when HBO’s Rome came out. Love him as Titus. Followed his career ever since. I was shocked when he passed. RIP Mr Stevenson. I think it’s time to rewatch Rome.
The bad thing is… with the little time he did play the role I will never attribute it to anyone else.. he killed it truly. Rip Baylan Skoll. May the force be with you, always
Yes a brilliant actor, everything I've ever watched him in down the year's he gives a sterling performance. A comforting voice also. As The Punisher, in the The Book of Eli, the Viking's series and many many more. A huge man in weight, muscle and height. But a gentle giant, he'll be sorely missed. A rare gem in Hollywood amongst much corruption. Thank you my friend.
Based on the lightsaber color, it was a sentinel yellow before he partially bled it, like what happens in Jedi Survivor with the High Republic survivor. If he was a sentinel and saw Anakin massacring everyone at the temple then he would have first hand knowledge.
I also love how he's quite easily able to penetrate ahsokas mind and find her insecurities and play on them. To me that alone meant he had a greater mastery of the force.
This is a good video. It's been a while since the last time I was actually sad about a an actor/a celebrity passing away. I wish he could have witnessed how great his character and his performance are received. Rest in peace Ray, you're home now.
He reminds me of jedi from a previous more brutal era, one shapped by war, having to abandon his faith and empathy to survive. He embodies a force user that refuses to fall entirely to the dark, and has found his own path.
Over 4 episodes...I suspect that Baylan Skoll has divination and telepathic abilities...he read Sabine's mind, seeing her inner pain, conflict, and fear. I'm now wondering: Where was Baylan, when Order 66/Operation Knightfall occurred? Was he at The Jedi Temple? Did he see Anakin Skywalker betray both The Jedi and The Republic with his own eyes? Or, did he see it with his own Force abilities? I REALLY HOPE that Dave Filoni wrote for his original character to nobly die by the end of this series. If he was meant to live on in the storyline, that would be such a tragedy. I agree: The next Tales Of The Jedi really should feature a tale or two about Baylan's life, before working with Morgan Elsbeth. What's a very interesting possibility: In early Spring 2024, there will be a brand new book by John Jackson Miller (Kenobi, A New Dawn), entitled, STAR WARS: The Living Force; taking place 1 year before Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It will be focusing on the 12 long-time members of The Jedi High Council, along with Qui-Gon Jinn. If the theories going around about Baylan Skoll possibly being one of the Padawans of Jedi Master Plo Koon have validity, it would be great and intriguing to see a 14-year-old Baylan depicted in the story, when he had his faith...
Baylan seems to be using something like the nighsisters, using both types of the force but not letting the darkness consume him like the Sith. Also, even though the nightsisters don’t really have lightsabers they do have their bows shooting pink projectiles, a mix of crimson and pure white. Meanwhile Baylan has an orange lightsaber, a mix of yellow and red. This may also explain his connections to Morgan.
Mother Talzin used a Sabre made of her green magics as she called them the life force she was stealing from innocents in an episode of clone wars with mace windu and jar jar binks the same green magics she used on maul and savage oppress she fights mace windu with a blade made of it he also kind of walked the way now that I think about it tapping into darkness when he fought darkness the bendu so Windu was also a force wielder in the middle
If the character survives the series, They should helmet him like Revan and explain a voice actor as voice Modulation. Probably the only character I’d want to reclaim Revan’s mask for more Ahsoka and Thrawn stuff. He gives off a Revan vibe, and I like it!
Ray was always a phenomenal actor who got roles rarely deserving of his talent. Just watch him in Rome (2005), my god he almost stole the show that was so stacked. Spectacular performance as Titus Pullo, then, for more than a decade best role he got was a marvel sidekick. As you said, such a shame he didnt recieve the praise he so well deserved for so many years.
I agree entirely. Balon is awesome. I love Shin as well and the master/apprentice dynamic between them. In fact I wish we would get more interaction between them. With him training her.
His Blackbeard in Black Sails was amazing. He was soo good in that series. He showed a great complexity as both good and bad and that character is very much the same as his Star Wars character.
The video perfectly sums up how I feel. RIP Ray, thank you for giving us such an incrediblely deep and captivating character. Its such a shame we won't get to see what he could have done with the character beyond this season
I came to Asoka for Thrawn. But I have been completely captivated by Ray. I agree he will be remembered as one of the greatest characters in Star Wars. He was revived hope into the franchise that truly needed rekindling. My heart is heavy for is premature lose to us but I know he is witnessing our love for him in the beyond
Everytime i see Ray it breaks my heart. I remember watching Rome as a teenager, even though i shouldnt have been watching Rome as a teenager lol. But he really did a good job with the character Titus Pullo.
I really hope his family and friends are able to read how much a very jaded fandom is absolutely loving not just this character, but his particular work on him.
I just joined the party with Ashoka, but Lord Baylan is such a badass. When he speaks to his apprentice and says "When I was not much older than you, everything I knew burned" (or some such) combined with Grand Admiral Thrawn greeting him as General Baylan, indicates that he was a full Jedi Knight at quite a young age (14-15)? Dave Filoni started with Ashoka, and has now introduced Baylan as possibilities to be the chosen one. Ashoka, Anakin, and (presumably) Baylan were all clearly powerful jedi who were all born within the window to be the chosen one according to prophecy. Of course we all know how that worked out. Also, Lord Baylan uses form V, which was the style Anakin, Qui-Gon, and Yoda all used.
First saw him on Dexter and was blown away by his performance. Then I found out he was Volstagg in Thor and thought that was really cool. Then I saw tons of his content in the last few years. Cold Skin and this character are just so good. He shall be missed and I wish he had gotten more love while he was with us
While Ewen McGregor did well with the Obiwan character, it was Sir Alec Guinness who really sold the character to us and made the character. I think Ray Stevens has done that again with Baylan.
Every single character in Ahsoka is absolutely great, especially Baylan. I believe it is the single best Star Wars cinematographic content that has been made after the 6 original movies. Hats off.
Loved him since seeing his superb "Titus Pullo" in "Rome" all those years ago! In fact all the tv series I have seen him in since, he always gave an impressive and memorable performance!
Ray's character is for sure the best character here. Hope the character doesn't get killed slipping on a bananas peel... like so many other SW antagonists.
I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but Baylan conducts himself about as "knightly" as any character. His postures - especially with his lightsaber - is any scene that could have been replaced with a longsword. Conduct as well. the line "...I gave her my word, and unlike her former master, I shall keep mine" really displays his rigid moral code. Indeed he and his apprentice even don plate armor! He may not be jedi, but he's definitely a knight.
Very grateful for Ray his work as Baylan, Baylan is the most interesting character in the show, he is intimidating, powerful but also has morals. Very sad Ray can't see the success and popularity of Baylan, Ray was an amazing actor, may he rest in peace.
so he is basically dooku 2.0 possibly as dooku himself was great character and just wanted peace and balance in galaxy as himself also knew of how mis guided jedi ways was also hence why he left then tricked by palpatine kind of
I didn’t know who he was outside of seeing him in these episodes and when I was watching this with my son, I told him “if they ever do a Star Wars old republic movie, he would make a perfect Valkorion.” Unfortunately, he passed away. May he RIP.
The role that will make me remember Ray Forever must be blackbeard in Black sails he was so great in that serie, but aside that he nailed every single role he was in, the world of the entertainment lost someone who was probably gonna give so much more in a lot of roles May he rest in peace
I think it would be really cool if he was at the temple during order 66 and fought anakin and somehow survived, I think that would be a really cool explanation for how he knows about what happened to anakin
For all we know he might be aware of some of the situations that led to Anikin's fall and how the Jedi's teachings utterly failed to help Anikin cope with them. Maybe that plays a part in why he lost faith and why he now trains his apprentice in a new way.
Just learn the actor's name. I remember seeing "for our friend Ray" at the end of the episode. I had no idea that was about him. I totally agree. I loved that character... I'm not sure how they will manage but it's a shame we don't see the full story with him in that role...
It's like Baylan feels that both the Jedi and the Sith are missing the point, also the Grey Jedi. Which is why he is seeking something more. He hinted at it as stopping the endless cycle of war, also sensing a power on the planet calling to him.
not a fan of these new star wars shows, but as soon as i saw stevenson was cast in ahsoka i started paying attention, and then finding out he plays a fallen jedi knight turned merc, i knew he was going to be badass. stevenson was such a great actor, from titus pullo, the 2004 king arthur, his turn as the punisher, to kill the irishman which despite being a generic mob flick, stevenson absolutely carried. he was a well of charisma on screen and he will be sorely missed. baylan skoll is definitely one of the most badass star wars characters of all time, and absolutely the best in this disney wars era.
Two things: First is you see him switch to finishing mode when Ahsoka goes after his apprentice. This can be seen as Ahsoka not respecting this pure connected relationship that is a cornerstone of force techniques and practices. The moment when it clicked for Ahsoka was when Anakin asked her if she wanted an apprentice. 2. Secondly, to solidify your point of his disapproval of Jedi practices before the fall of the Republic, we again see Baylons leanings toward the light when his apprentice, itching to get revenge for a fallen comrade, goes to double cross Ahsokas apprentice and he uses it as a teachable moment. Almost as if to remind both the young apprentices that the force flows in both directions and in-between them as well.
I had the pleasure to have drinks with Ray a couple of times he was in Montréal. Great sense of humour and didn't mind talking about work now and then. It's a shame I won't be able to compliment him on this role. Well done Ray!!
He has a tremendous impact on any scene ! I whish he could play Batman Beyond as the senior Bruce Wayne to give his dignity to the role. He will never ne forgotten.
Yeah, they definitely need to flesh out his backstory a bit with an arc in Tales of the Jedi. I wanna see that as much as a "Tales of the Sith" with arcs on Maul and Palpatine.
The thing with Baylan that just cemented him as one of the greatest was you could see he cared about his apprentice you could see that when Ashoka force tossed her into the rock. It is so rare in StarWars to have characters that sre not just 2D good or bad, so much depth. So freaking tragic we won't get to see more of him.
So far we're at episode 4 and he has said very little and done relatively little, and yet I feel this praise is justified. He just has such a presence about him. 🤩
I love how you can see that he never left his jedi upbringing behind. You notice it in his light saber form, how he still made Shani wear the padawan braid and so on
I'm enjoying Shin Hati too she seems to be more suduced by the darkside but her unwavering loyalty to Baylan is keeping her going full Sith mode right now.
I think the credit goes to Dave Filoni, the writer. There are a lot of Filoni detractors on RUclips but he's produced the best content outside of the original trilogy. He created the character of Ahsoka and he created the Rebels series and the Inquisitors. Rebels was set during the Imperial era so there wasn't anything "new" per se but the Ahsoka series is set beyond the Lucas timeline and in the series so far he's giving us actual world building, interesting series directions and more great characters. The Sequel Trilogy completely failed to do this. It didn't build onto the Star Wars universe in any interesting or coherent way after the Force Awakens.
It's actually really cool that now that the Jedi council doesn't exist and the Sith aren't around that the Force sensitive aren't restricting themselves to just 1 side, no code to live up too. They kind a float somewhere in between.
I think it would be a shame to what Ray has built to let that character die. Surely no one will do it like he did, but he built something, brought this character to life in a way that no one else could. This character looms large in our imagination. We are hungry to experience more. His craft is the foundation of that. It should be carried on.
Adding also the fact that Skoll and Hati in Norse mythology were the wolves who chased the sun and the moon surely these two characters have something deeper to say
The only difference of a master and knight is you got a Padawan to also pass the trials to become a knight. There is no distinction between individual skill from those two ranks.
Beautiful actor with magnetic charisma. His expression is so intense he doesn't need to say anything. The character is a dark jedi, he's not trained as a Sith, unlike the Darths. Using the Dark Side means you're serving it, whatever you may think or believe your ultimate goals are, that's the sinister thing about it. Whether you realize or not you tip the balance in its direction, so we can't say he is not serving the Dark Side.
The first time I saw Ray is when he played The Punisher. I loved that movie, and I really enjoyed his performance. I've liked him ever since, and Baylan has been an amazing character. I'm looking forward to the rest of his scenes.
The concept of this character is too great to just throw away I really hope Disney decides to do a recasting and hopefully can find someone who can do Ray's work justice. I appreciate the work Ray has done to make this character so awesome and would hate to see it all wrap up in a single season. If Disney could give us a Spartacus level recasting that would be excellent.
Ray was awesome in Rome, stole the scenes in King Arthur and hands down was the best Punisher on the big screen. It’s refreshing that his theatrical adaptation of a Star Wars character in Asoapy will last forever.

Exactlyy.. hes very mature in that way as well.. and grown up about it.. that just shows the sheer depth/weight of his character.
Ray really was a great actor. It really sucks we lost him. May he rest in peace.
His role in Rome was perfect! I couldn't see any other person filling ANY of the roles he played throughout his career!
@@Mukation 100%
He played Blackbeard insanely well in Black Sails, great actor.
Yooo I'm glad to see someone else who watched that show
Such an underrated show with great performances pretty much all around
@@Shane-hx4xp Not to mention they actually built those ships from the ground up for the show just so they can be torn apart realistically
That’s all I could think about, him being Blackbeard
They can't kill him for season 1; filming was completed a year ago before he died and was completing post-production when he passed away. If Floni intended to re-shoot, the series would have been delayed for an extra period of time. Ray did mention in an interview at SW celebration that his character is still evolving (meaning that his character was still alive and was coming back in season 2). Dave has a big job ahead trying to re-write, re-cast, and re-introduce a new character to replace this. It's just tragic.
It's as bad as when Chadwick Boseman passed away after Endgame.
Maybe they should use AI to cast him. We've seen what it's capable of and it keeps improving.
@@nezarecdiscipleofthewitnes3823 no way should they ever try this. The character is made by Rays acting skills, if theres no ray then its just someone trying to do a bad impression of ray.
@@danielscrimgeour8812 They can still use the character for animation because he doesn't have to be exactly the same. But for live action he's done.
Can always helmet him like Revan and explain it as voice Modulation.
Fights with honor? He struck down unarmed new Republic forces to free Morgan Elsbeth.
Even though we may not know Baylan's origin story, it seems like Ray does, and he is able to translate that into an incredible performance on the screen. I don't see how they can possibly recast this character either for future episodes.
Think I read Dominic Purcell will take the mantel.
@@theoscott5266 He's got some big shoes to fill.
@@dcshoes841 I agree 100%.
Ray will be missed! Because of his effort... a new hope is born
Well I don't understand if he's dead then why are the episodes of him? Has this been recorded before his death or something
@@Crazinator they filmed the show months before he passed away.
@@Crazinator The whole season was wrapped before he died. Carrie Fisher, for example, also appeared posthumously in several scenes in the sequels.
@@Loucap_ oh okay I guess that makes sense but it's also really sad though
@@Batmack oh alright I guess that makes sense I wish he didn't pass I would have enjoyed his character a lot more
He wasn’t just a great addition to the Star Wars universe but he was an an incredible addition to our world.
Rest well, you’ll be missed.
Well said.
No we don’t want it lighter, that would be lame. Same old turning good story we don’t want and defeat the whole reason we like him in the first place.
RIP
Great observations on your part! Baylan was smartly written and very well acted, the character has been such an enjoyment.
I just hate that he's gone.
That's just what love is, nothing you can do about that.
🕊
Was he in the World Between Worlds... Is he the father?
He is a massively shining star in this series (and in everything that he did). Rest Well Ray
Ray Stevenson brilliant actor in my opinion and he will be a legend in Star Wars and rl
I love the way Baylan moves his lightsaber in regards to blocking blaster fire
When he turned his back in the battle, that gave me chills. He truly doesn't want to fight.
He helped give us one of the slowest lightsaber fights in Star Wars, if you watch it on 2x it's still slower than the Phantom Menace fight with Maul
Hats off.
Ray Stevens is one of my favorite actors, and glad he left us with a great character in a franchise I still love , Thank you !!
I loved him as Frank Castle in the Punisher. Was so much closer to the comics than anything we had seen up to that point.
Baylan will have the greatest single season impact in star wars history. Mark my words.
Very grateful for Ray his work as Baylan, Baylan is the most interesting character in the show, he is intimidating, powerful but also has morals. Very sad Ray can't see the success and popularity of Baylan, Ray was an amazing actor, may he rest in peace.
Baylan is kinda the older Anakin bringing balance to the force I've always wanted to see.
so he is basically dooku 2.0 possibly as dooku himself was great character and just wanted peace and balance in galaxy as himself also knew of how mis guided jedi ways was also hence why he left then tricked by palpatine kind of
As an actor he's the embodiment of the character of Luthen...
This series is the sunrise he will never see.
RIP Ray, the man was a legend and a hell of an actor. Thank you.
1:45 man that intro scene was something else. Gives me chills.
What makes his character so interesting is that he expresses regret for the actions he knows he must take. Makes him far more deep and interesting.
Great video. Baylan restores intrigue to Star Wars.
I didn’t know who he was outside of seeing him in these episodes and when I was watching this with my son, I told him “if they ever do a Star Wars old republic movie, he would make a perfect Valkorion.”
Unfortunately, he passed away. May he RIP.
Man I saw him on Dexter and thought his performance was one of the best I had ever seen. Seeing him on Ashoka was pleasantly surprising.
The role that will make me remember Ray Forever must be blackbeard in Black sails he was so great in that serie, but aside that he nailed every single role he was in, the world of the entertainment lost someone who was probably gonna give so much more in a lot of roles
May he rest in peace
I think it would be really cool if he was at the temple during order 66 and fought anakin and somehow survived, I think that would be a really cool explanation for how he knows about what happened to anakin
I agree, Ray managed to make one of the most interesting villians since OG Vader.
I feel like there is an opportunity to do a cartoon backstory series based on Baylan
For all we know he might be aware of some of the situations that led to Anikin's fall and how the Jedi's teachings utterly failed to help Anikin cope with them. Maybe that plays a part in why he lost faith and why he now trains his apprentice in a new way.
I’m only on episode 2, so I look forward to learning more about this character then.
Two things:
First is you see him switch to finishing mode when Ahsoka goes after his apprentice.
Ray knew how when it comes to screen presence, dialogue, and subtext that less is more. That you can have entire conversations with just a few looks.
❤ For Ray❤ I'll always remember him as Frank Castle, Pullo, Volstagg, and others.
He's a believable actor. We are dealing with incompetence in Hollywood and that's why everything is meh. He is certainly a treat to watch no doubt.
I fell in love with Ray Stevenson when I watched Black Sails...he is simply the most amazing actor in whatever part he plays.
Ray Stevenson was always an incredible actor, most people just didn't appreciate it until he was gone.
Thanks!
Brilliant actor. Titus Pullo was a character that no one else could have performed.
Baylan is a Jedi master not knight. We saw a difference between a master and knight.
Samurai vs knight if the round table … this was a fictional battle everyone wanted
The only difference of a master and knight is you got a Padawan to also pass the trials to become a knight. There is no distinction between individual skill from those two ranks.
@@PEZ1514 no the discussion has been proven many times. EP3 showed as such
Ray did such a great job. We are so lucky he left us such and amazing performance and he will live on forever.
Dang, I really liked his work.
I feel bad for him. Loved the guy. And it is sad that the story of Lord Baylan has to end . . .
