I am impressed with the narrow footprint of the viaduct construction - one of the few positive features of the HS2 build. Not impressed with the mashup of roads around Waddesdon. What were they thinking by first, commendably, taking the A41, a heavily trafficked road with HGV use, alongside the railway and therefore away from the village of Waddesdon, to a 90 and a 270 degree turn at a roundabout for goodness sake, and lamentably back towards the village the parallel alignment appears to want to avoid? The consultant engineers should have continued the alignment north-westwards as a bypass for Waddesdon and join the original road alignment west of the village. I hope the villagers are pleased with the improvement
I can see your point about the missed opportunity of a bypass but I think, looking at the map, that appears to be more of a challenge. They would surely have had to purchase more property and land to do that as it quite a narrow route around the north of Waddesdon. There's the allotments in the way and Glebe Farm. I would be interested to know the cost comparisons between building this current realignment of roads versus a bridge over the A41 where that temporary roundabout is. Maybe its because of less disruption to traffic. Who knows...
Nice one. Was there a change to the plan for that bridge? I'm trying to make a map that has all the different youtube videos including yours tracking the HS2 construction, it's very bare bones atm but I've placed markers for most of the bridges already and it was nice to follow your drone with the map open on my other screen but it looks like the PDF I was working on isn't as up to date as yours. I'm happy to share it with you already if you want a sneak peak
Cheers, that would be interesting to see. It sounds like a useful project. I'm not sure about the plans changing for the bridge but I have noticed the odd change to plans elsewhere. In particular, that roundabout on the A41 which is not shown on the plan at the beginning of the video. That is from 2017 whereas the other ones I insert sometimes are more recent.
What a horrendous scar on the landscape & a complete & utter waste of billions of pounds. HS2 is an environmental disaster & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.

Excellent update Karl. Judging from the shadow on the ground between 6:30 and 7:00, you must be flying a mahoosive drone! Surely that's more than 250g?!! 😁 (Yes, I know it's really the shadow from a cloud!)
