The black goo you see is from the belt which is made from EPDM. This material is what the modern belts are made from now which help them last 60-80K miles but when oil contacts the material it swells and will start to breakdown and turn into the black goo eventually. This will plug up the oil pickup tube strainer and can lodge itself inside oil passages causing oil starvation and irreversible damage to engine bearings/internals.
Yep. The most common Failure on the n54 and n55 engines. Caused by a leaking oil housing gasket. The belt gets wet of oil and as this has been ignored the belt spins of gets around the balancer and is forced inside the oil pan through the crank seal. The owner only replaced the belt but had to do a complete oil pan removal to clean everything up. This hasn't been done, causing this big problem!😔. Dutch regards ,Nico
Good video as always! I haven't had any with that fault in my shop but I've heard many times that's the problem. Not much of 3.5 petrol engines in Serbia.
Unfortunately this is a common problem on N54 and N55 engines. OFHG is one way, but another is having a bad engine mount allows power steering pulley to contact the subframe and derails the serpentine belt. It slips between the block and crank pulley and pushes through the front main seal as it shreds itself.
Hi Crank, I did not see any pictures on removing the oil pump. Is there a special trick in removing? ISTA manual says to depress the automatic adjuster several times behind a cover. We need to remove the oil pump (N55) to replace rod bearings while in car. Thanks for your help.
Very informative video ! I recently got a valve cover changed got the same exact car, as well as my oil pressure sensor. After that, I got low oil pressure before start , oil sensor plausibility. Switched it out with another sensor, and the same code comes out. Any idea of what I can do ?

When the belt broke down , it tends to go around the harmonic balancer of the crankshaft . The design of some balancers tends to "swallow" serpentine belts , when this happens , through the crankshaft seal .

Why didn't you make the video 10+minutes. I know that youtube likes 10+ minutes videos. You could talk about what the repair might be. What would you recommend the customer etc. I really miss the point where you talk what should be done, not what will be done :)
Yes actually 10+ minutes videos are more preferable from RUclips , but I'm earning so small from my videos , that I don't see the point from that . About what should be done , is pretty obvious , but sure I can add it in the next part :) Thanks
@@crank3646 Well. it's obvious to you :D For a guy like me.. not so much. The biggest job that I have done is timing belt change. I had never removed the oil pan or been inside an engine block. Nor do I know what really is in an engine block and what the repair should be. As the car wizzard said not everyone is a car guru => ruclips.net/video/shYwtuad7fg/видео.html
never thought of that happening before .. you learn something new every day

Yes , but it seems out , that they change the oil cooler gasket :D

Very good explanation and demonstration sad it's big loss because of serpentine belt.😡😣😩

Good diagnosis. Let’s hope all the debris was caught by the oil pickup screen and oil filter.
Nice video sr 👏👏
how did the serpentine belt particulars come past the oil filter into the oil geornaks?
Good as usually. What is the right oil pressure in n51/n52 or n53 engines ?

Здравей нещо не разбирам. Опитали са се да почистят двигателя с някъква химия и резултата е запушена маслена помпа?
Скъсал се е пистовия ремък , влязъл е през семерингата и съответно е запушил тръбата за маслената помпа
How does a belt go inside the engine anyway ?

Same thing happened to me & I have oil pressure issues

They most likely didn't know. That's why it's good to take your cars to get a check up every 4-6 months
