Thank you for this video!!!! I can almost bet this is the issue with my son's e92 n55. The low oil pressure code popped up 1 week after an oil change was done at some dealership (not BMW). I bet the kid that did the oil change did exactly that... Throw away the center section...
Thank you much for this video, I hope this is the issue on my car. My issues are identical to this. I will know tomorrow. Waheed from Cape Town, South Africa
nice video. Is the hard small o-ring on the oil filter due to low oil pressure? I have N52 and change the oil rings with the filter during an oil change and 5000 miles later the small oring is hard and brittle.
I had this 2 times with every oil +oilfilter change. The problem was the faulty/wrong oil filter, although i used original bosch filter. It seems that there are several different oil filters for the same engine...
My BMW X5 (N55) just threw this low oil pressure light 2 days after an oil change. I shut it off immediately and parked the car and towed it home. I did not hurt the engine in any way if i shut it off instantly?
Farid, it's hard to say, but there's a chance you are ok, being you shut it off right away. Best thing would be to check the filter element for any signs of bearing material or anything other than oil when you remove the oil filter cap. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
Hey ! Great video! My bmw 535i f10, recently swapped oil pressure switch sensor, after that, got codes of low oil pump pressure and low oil pressure before start up. It must be the sensor and not the pump right ? Light never came on until after the switch was replaced. Also: is it bad to drive with the faulty sensor? My car drives normal, the same no check engine lights just a code in the DME
there is a good chance that it is due to the sensor, obviously the best way and safest way is to confirm actual oil psi, other than that you can try another sensor, make sure to get an oem to avoid issues
@@DTEAuto thanks for the insight ! Yes I swapped original one out with OEM quality sensor, then light came on. Then again with same sensor same brand just a different one and again the light came on. Now I cleared codes, been driving for 30 mins. Only sensor code, no oil pump low pressure code.
Hey bro..In my 320i f30 i have oil presure too low..I change the oil pressure sensor but it doesnt work..If i turn off the engine when the check shows up and turn on again the check disappears..
Best thing would be is to see if you can get a pressure reading with a tool, or possibly replace the switch... but first thing try to get a scanner on it and see if ti has any codes
Hi bro, hope you can help me...my s55 m3 is throwing similar codes including engine oil pressure sensor plausibility, pressure too high before engine start.. I disconnected Oil pressure sensor and my schawben scan tool is showing consistent pressure of 5 bars but if I reconnect the pressure switch the codes pop up again.. Oil is splashing hard on inspection in the cylinder head cover and the engine is fairly new, under 4000 miles.. Could this be oil pump issue or oil pressure sensor?
Hey Build Indian , it's hard to say, but start with comparing the scanner display of the oil psi reading at rest with the key on engine off, see what it is reading , at rest with no engine oil psi I believe should read close to atmospheric psi (for me it reads 15psi key on engine off) If get an odd reading you can try to plug in a new one and not install it in the engine and turn key on engine off and see what reading that gives you. That should get you in the direction of trying to separate and engine oil supply issue with a sensor issue. Hope that helps and thanks for watching
@@DTEAuto hello sir.. I performed the test based on your instructions...oil pressure on scanner is reading at 5 bars.. After re install of switch and after start the reading is below 1 bar.. After disconnect again with engine running it is steady at 5 bars and does not increase with rpm I removed oil filler cap and oil flow is splashing well and splash will increase with rpm It is now night tlme at my side but tomorrow i will install new switch and perform manual test with oil pressure gauge and will give you update..tks
It just happened with me and the low oil pressure led me to this video and it the center section is missing 😢
Thank you man u saved my car
18:34 great work friend. Not overlooking the basics
Thanks for the thorough comparison on the snap throttle 27:28

glad the video helped with giving you advice, and yes hopefully that is all that is wrong with your sons e92, thanks for watching
Man, your video saved me a lot of money. Much appreciated. The oil filter cap was missing the inside piece.
Glad to hear it helped you out!

Hello did you solve the problem
Low oil pressure on BMWs especially N55 and N20 first thing I do is pull the filter looking for this and to open the filter and look for metal
Exellent video, and knowledge
Forever doing my own oil changes from now on...

Just curious, if this was left undiagnosed what is the potential outcome.
Other than potential engine damage from lower then needed oil psi, the vanos system can be affected as well and can cause rough running and misfires

@Chemically what was original issue as to why you replaced the original sensor in first place?
@@DTEAuto it was leaking oil together with the valve cover so I changed the valve cover and sensor

Will low oil pressure cause a oil leak?
No it will not
