I really love that Nolan gave Batman a broken heart in this movie… I can’t think of another example off the top of my head where the heroes girlfriend just straight up chooses someone else over him. Not because she doesn’t know the full story, or because she has to protect him from some villain’s threats, but because she loves someone more than him. Her death isn’t what keeps them apart… it’s her choice. And it means a lot to me to see my hero suffer a kind of pain that I’ve suffered. The pain of rejection. The pain of heartache.
