Just wanted to say I barely read sci fi or fantasy, but I love your channel. Sometimes it’s just cool to hear about books and stories, even if I might not read them. Thank you for your thoughtful reviews! Haven’t read Hidden Pictures yet, but I’ve seen it as pretty divisive. I’d say I’m shocked it won the Goodreads Horror for 2022, but I’m also not happy with a lot of how those awards go. Jeanette McCurdys win makes the most sense. The author of Hidden Pictures was involved with the Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children series. I think he did the pictures, I can’t remember exactly. At first I thought that was cool, but as I see more negative reviews I wonder if it’s not, and he got ahead of himself by writing a novel. But then again there were lots of people who loved it, so good for him, there’s books for everyone. I bought it though and I really wish I would’ve just checked it out from my library, I usually don’t get swept up in hype. But that cover, the excitement, I purchased it without thinking.
Thank you so much, Gabriel! I'm glad you're here! 😃 I haven't read any of the other horror nominees this year but was also shocked that Hidden Pictures won lol. I really do hope you enjoy it, though, whenever you get around to it!
Oh no you hurt me with Mickey 7 I really enjoyed that one! I picked it up because the first time you talked about it, it sounded so good so thank you for that LOL but I ABSOLUTELY agree with Book of Night I couldn’t even make it through!!
Ouch, Tori! This hurt. 🙉🙈😄 Our tastes are so different and I love it! Your worst books are some of my best. 😉 But everything you said in this video made sense. And I knew Book of Night would be on this list. I still enjoyed our buddy read though! 😁
Sorry! 🤣🤣 I love it too, though! But I think we have one in common becuase didn’t you love Recursion?? So we’re getting there lol. And I loved our buddy read so much! Would love to have amother in ‘23 ☺️
I was also really disappointed by Mickey7. Cool idea, but all the different storylines made the plot feel super slow and that ending was so incomplete. I def aren't going to continue with this series but I'll be interested to see the movie adaptation from Bong Joon-Ho (the same director that did Parasite)
While I had a few misses woth some books this year, the worst by far was "The Phantom of the Opera. I dont want to use harsh words when it is about books, but I'll have to say I hated that one. The only reason I pushed through it was because of a buddy read. But I've learned my lesson. DNF is a option.
Oh no! And I recently picked up Phantom of the Opera for my tbr next year 😆 What didn't you like about it?? And yeah, I've had to learn the hard way that DNFing is always an option haha

Totally agree with you on Hidden Pictures. The first half had me so engrossed and then it went downhill with Mallory really annoying me lol don't even get me started on the fact that book won the Best Horror/Thriller Goodreads award...
Totally agree with you about Engines of Empire except my least favorite character was the oldest son. He was such a fool, but then, all the characters were insufferable.
Omg do NOT get me started on Conall either! He had a moment toward the end of the book that almost made me roll my eyes out of my head 🤣 Insufferable describes all of those characters perfectly lol
Consider yourself lucky 😅 You still may want to give something like Mickey7 a try if the premise sounds interesting, though! Many booktubers have really enjoyed that book this year
Ruination was not for me. I DNF'd it early on. Reviews say you don't have to know LoL to enjoy the book, but I think you do? It seemed to me, to be written for fans already familiar with the characters and world.
I can definitely see that! I think the story can stand by itself, but it would be helpful to already know and like some of these characters before going into it. I wish I'd DNF'd it too tbh
Here's my list of worst books of this year 1. Toll the hounds 2. Reapers gale 3. From a Buick 8 by Stephen king 4. Husband material by alexis hall 5. The bone orchard 6. Cell by Stephen king 7. The war of two queens by Jennifer l armentrout 8. Rythm of war by Brandon Sanderson
Oh you had quite a few this year! I've seen the Bone Orchard get some mixed reviews this year. I haven't started the Stormlight Archive yet, but I'm really curious why you didn't like Rhythm of War 👀 But if you think it's too spoilery to share, then nvm haha!

My worst book of the year is King of Ashes by Raymond Feist. Combination of derivative & boring plot and horrible & stereotypical characters. One of the worst fantasy books I've ever read. My least favorite 2022 release is tied between Dead Silence/The Hacienda. That might be an unpopular opinion but I think both books are terrible.
Aww man, I really enjoyed Dead Silence this year lol! Bummer you didn't enjoy it! And I'm sorry you had that experience with King of Ashes 😔 I hope you have some great fantasy books lined up for next year :D
You are definitely the best booktuber. Totally agree with all this.
You’re too kind, thank you!

I’m so glad something good came out of me talking about Mickey7 🤣🤣 I love that you enjoyed it! And Book of Night…I feel like I still have no words lol
Oh god book of Night was just NOTHING. It was empty. It gave us blank space 🙃🙃
I'm really surprised they moved forward with the sequel given the horrible reviews it's gotten in the community.
Empty is the best word to describe that book 🤦🏽♀️
I’m surprised too smh!

There is something within me that loves hearing the negative reviews most .

There's a movie that came out in 2009 called Moon; it seems like the same premise
I feel you. Too many subplots for me and none of them focusing on what made the book interesting😕
Not familiar with that movie but will check it out now!

Least favorite was A Thousand Ships. It's the book that made me finally accept that I can't be reading Greek myth retellings 😬
Oh that’s a bummer! Yeah it’s probably best to leave the Greek myth retellings alone after that one 🤣

Bro I haaaaaated Hidden Pictures, it’s easily the second worse book I read (first place goes to The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager 😂)
The reactions I’ve seen to House Across the Lake this have been hilarious. I can see how it’s your worst of the year 🤣
