      Here is a definition I found: “a way of evaluating whether or not a film or other work of fiction portrays women in a way that is sexist or characterized by gender stereotyping. To pass the Bechdel test a work must feature at least two women, these women must talk to each other, and their conversation must concern something other than a man.”

    Honestly I liked Icebreaker for the first 5 chapters where Stassie hated him. It’s pretty common for figure skaters and hockey players to have a nasty rivalry - hockey players can be really misogynistic. I think she was valid to hate Nate for what she viewed as him not being responsible for his teammates as captain. Hockey players practice a lot, especially if they’re a good team, as do figure skaters, so considering there’s only so much time between classes for both groups to practice it seems okay (not that they ever go to class). Maybe it’s because I’m canadian but every uni has at least two rinks in their complex, so that’s not a cracked up rich person thing. The problem was that there was no plot, every character was shallow, they suddenly went from disliking each other to fucking like rabbits, and the author had a fundamental misunderstanding of both sports she was trying to represent. I hated icebreaker with a passion.

      @fefefefefer 11 месяцев назад +67

      yes! i was really excited for all the abusive-skater-partner plot, but it never really came. it was never resolved, the author just got lost with a lot of pwp (porn withouth plot) and killed the potencial of the book😊

If I recall correctly, 74 is where they start to have sex and I recall her never wearing underwear even when you really SHOULD. I also just found Anastasia unlikable, her friends-with-benefits relationship with another guy didn't really feel necessary. There wasn't enough cute moments for me. There were too many characters. The nail in the coffin for me was when they had sex in an Uber that also had all of their friends in it. So that's my opinion. I felt so repulsed the whole way through, reading about this pathetic male MC fantasizing about the women around him and of his CHILDHOOD, feeling sorry for himself and wallowing in self pity, as if he's the center of the universe, not say, his murdered childhood friend?? Would've loved to find out more about THAT, why wasn't she the MC?
      All that only for one of the other childhood friends to turn around and make him feel GREAT about himself with a little speech, cause he's the BEST and she's ALWAYS had a crush on him and felt inadequate! Cause what else?! Plus the constant forced vagueness of everything, without a resolution. And yeah, one could argue that an MC can be unlikeable and sexist on purpose. But I just felt the author seep through.

    I listened to this as background noise while doing work. I didn't quite hear you say "Audition", so as you were summarizing it I realized that it sounded like a j-horror film I watched when I was in high school (2009). Turned around to see the title, and it was like being hit with a flashbang.

    I beg you, BEG you, to read ‘Hooked’ by Emily Mcintire. It’s meant to be a romance, but my god, it is the most horrific thing I have ever laid my eyes on. The mental disconnect that the author had to push the idea the two main characters were in love was so insane, I had to put the book down twice. Honestly, I think it might be up there with credence.

    Okay you are so spot on about Audition. I *love* horror and am deeply obsessed with the genre but Audition was truly boring and baffling to me for all the reasons you listed. I also felt similarly about Twisted Love. The hype did not live up and it was also kind of boring and my disbelief (which is usually easily suspended) was not suspended in any way.

I watched your Credence video because multiple people in my life were considering reading despite some of the themes I heard of and shared with them (the same reasons I choose not to consume such.. debauchery.. and don’t get me wrong I also grew up on Wattpad I can get with some wild shit but just no) so I truly appreciated your break down and willingness to take one for the team 😂❤

  • @cass1418
    @cass1418 9 месяцев назад +9

    I’ve yet to see anyone comment on this, but I hated icebreaker’s main characters with a passion. Stassie begins the book by stating that her planner is her lifeline and she’s hopeless without it, but after a few chapters the planners never mentioned again. Then you have Nate who, when taking a shower with Stassie, has to ask what conditioner is and have the concept of it explained to him. It’s the worst written book I’ve read in such a long time.
