I tried these about a week ago -- I'd rather eat the normal vienna sausages, the broth was not that great, I'd say your 8/10 rating was perfect. The normal vienna sausages one are definitely 10/10
Based on the grams per serving listed on the packages, I'm pretty sure the difference in calories/protein/etc. is because they included the chicken broth in the microwaveable ones. If you don't drink the broth they would be about the same
Gonna give these a try soon. Just tried their Vienna sausages in Louisiana hot sauce yesterday, they’re pretty good. The regular BBQ sauce they use is kinda bland, but if you get their bourbon bbq viennie weenies they are off the chain. I’ll tell you what else is good, slice these up and put them in a bowl of Spaghettio’s and they’re awesome. Thanks for another great video! 👍

Larry, like you, I have been eating these things since I was a kid. My grand daddy was a coal miner and "Vie-eeny weenies" (yep, we called them that too) was standard dinner bucket food back then. I have never done the apple cider vinegar trick, but I am going to give it a go now because I trust the man who has given his life in service to the people!
If these are firmer than the canned ones, I wonder how they'd hold up if you drain the broth, brown them - then add them to baked beans - with onion and mustard! Better than canned Beanie Weenie? 🙂
I've eaten Vienna sausage all my life but the only time I've ever heated them was if the can got cold enough for the fat in the "broth" to congeal. Love them with hot sauce and beer.
I can explain easily about the nutritional difference. Like I've argued in your comment section countless times with fellow watchers. The Dollar stores BUYS REJECTS! Nothing is ever wrong with the contents of what they are selling. It's usually something stupid like the labeling and nutritionals that cannot be sold to the big guys, because they turn it down. So it's sold on what as know as the 3rd market. Which are your bargain stores.
One time I was at a party eating vienna sausages directly out of the can. Someone remarked: "this man is a survivor!! He's eating sausages out of a can!"
For the nutrition: the sausage ingredients have to be different ratio in the sliced sausages. The end product is different. Like you said more firm when warm, more filler, or maybe less.
My guess is that the 'heat and eat' Vienna Sausages are actually a soup. They're counting the weight of the liquid and adding more so, you're getting less actual sausages which is why it's slightly healthier than the normal Vienna Sausages.
I would love to know if you have an ALDI’s grocery store, please compare their brand and prices to other stores. I’m an ALDI fan, but it’ll be never ending content for you to compare their brands vs. anywhere else, the only place that the store struggles is their ungraded and packaged meats, which you can start with, they have dirt cheap beef tenderloin.
@@DeSaxofoonVanPeter I thought the same so I did a little googling. It seems that there are some Aldi stores somewhere in the US, though I've never seen one myself. great video once again Larry and the wife love you guys my mom reminded me why I loved the asparagus on toast because I always loved it when I was a kid
Im sure someone already beat me to it but the main reason why the small can has more nutrition and more "food" is that the smaller can is more densely packed with sausages. The larger can has the sausages cut up and a lot of bloat weight in the way of water to make up the weight. But because the product is spread out and in a larger container it looks bigger. You can confirm this by dumping the products out and tossing the slimey water then weighing them on their own. Marketing 101
Back in the day I used to cut up Vienna sausages into pieces just like this and put them on a saltine cracker w/cheese (the processed, individually wrapped kind) and nuke them in the microwave for 15-20 seconds...it was delicious. Yes, the new heat n eat can is bigger, but actually has less 'sausage' which has been replaced with chicken broth to give it more weight. Take a can of the original and cut up all the sausages into pieces like the new can. Now try to put all those pieces back in the can loosely like they are in the heat n eat can...bet you won't be able to get all those pieces back in the original can like that.
I think the reason it's different is because the 2 servings equal 150 grams where as the bowl is 205. The bowl also has more liquid in it bringing down the calories. So i think its because there is less liquid in the can vs the bowl which i think would take into account for calories. And as for price people pay more for convenience.
Being a North Carolina boy too, my goto topping for Vienna Sausages is Texas Pete. When I'm feeling really fancy I make a bowl of Romane Noodles and cut some Vienna Sausages up in it.
The discrepancies are most probably due to Nukular sublimation, yup thats the ticket. Of course, it could be that they used more of whatever binder is normally used during production, a lot more, which could explain the firmer texture and the lower calorie/nutrition count..........naw, I'm sticking with it going up in a vaporized cloud caused by the nooking machine.
Likely more nutritional value in the smaller can because it is packed full, the sliced ones are floating in sauce/broth, likely less actual mystery meat in the bigger container.
You may be wondering, what's the difference between a Vienna sausage and a hot dog? Well, there's no difference; they're the same thing. The German word for what we call a hot dog is Wienerwurst, which literally means "Viennese sausage". It's also where the word "wiener" (or "weiner," as some folks prefer to spell it) comes from. I have no explanation for why Americans also referred to them as Frankfurters for so long, apart from a wild guess that maybe a similar type of sausage was made in Frankfurt.
Actually here in Austria/Vienna we call these kinds of sausages Frankfurter...rumor has it that a 100 years ago a german sausagemaker from Frankfurt moved to Vienna and sold a variety of these, hence here they are referred to as Frankfurter while in Frankfurt they are referred to as "Wiener". Also in Germany the name Frankfurter is protected and must only been used for products made in the Frankfurt area
I work in a grocery store. During the Covid insanity when people were at the height of panic buying I watched 2 people get in a real screaming cussing almost to blows fight over a small case of BBQ Vienna sausages. The cussing was amazing. Finally the least aggressive one backed off. But then during it I pretty much had to look up stuff I was being called cause we were out of something someone wanted. Quick google search... Ah yes... vulgar.. but at least accurate angry lady.
Ah yes. The aggressor tries to use scare tactics and the other absorbs the agression and somehow is able to outwit, outlast and out-sausage their opponent.
Vienna sausages are great when you're so hungry you're going to be sick if you don't eat. The first 1 or 2 taste good. After that you're full and you feel like you'll be sick if you eat any more.
If I had to guess, the difference is there more broth/sauce/goo/vienna snot in the bowl. The sausages in the can are packed in there tightly. These are chopped and poured in the bowl, so the packing density is lower so there is more space to fill with the goo. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are slight differences in the recipe so that they don't disintegrate when heated.
I personally have never had any Vienna sausages but my oldest son when he was a little guy loved those little things we had to keep them stocked for him !!
In Germany we call them 'Wiener'. Popular snack is to have them with a fresh Breze (pretzel), sometimes cut up and thrown into a soup or pan fried along with some ketchup.
I DIED WHEN HE SAID EITHER WAY THIS SEEMED LIKE A BAD IDEA😂 ALSO AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THAT THE TITLE SAID HEAT AND HEAT INSTEAD OF HEAT AND EAT?🤦
Here in Switzerland, Cervelat are very popular. The meat is very similar to Vienna Sausages (we call them Wienerli, which means about Viennas...) together with Lyoner (which is Bologna in America) those three things have all the same meat.
one mild suggestion, when you give a rating, put it in the video as you rate it? Just a suggestion but since it's a video, it would add to the visual and stuff. Love your videos as is
@@lwilton Haha they are actually called "Frankfurter" in Vienna, usually you buy them fresh from the butcher, boil them at home and eat them hot with mustard and a kaiser roll. A typical quick snack at children's birthdays, festivals, fairs, etc. :)
@@sophielorber4571 We have frankfurters too, here it is another name for "hot dog". You can sometimes get them from a butcher, but there aren't all that many real butchers left, so you usually get them from a food market in a package of 8 or so, in the chilled meat section. Here a frankfurter/hot dog is about 22-30 cm or longer and about 2-2.5 cm in diameter. They are typically boiled or grilled and served in a 'hot dog bun' (an elongated split bread roll) with a choice of toppings, often catsup, mustard, and/or pickle relish. The 'Vienna sausage' that comes in cans are about 1.25cm diameter and maybe 6 or 7 cm long, so a much smaller item.
As for the nutrition facts: It looks like maybe they got more than 2 sausages to fit in the smaller can, so the single serving size for the smaller can is overall more than the amount per serving for the bigger can. From the nutrition info, it looks like the smaller can has about 3 cut up sausages inside (or maybe 2.5 or 2.8 or.... It's hard to know when they round to the nearest gram.)
you said these were firmer than the original so they have changed something in the recipe. the price is the killer for me. Thats a good tip on the ACV, I need to try that
Hey Larry! Have you tried the Carmela Vienna sausage? It is a delicacy in Puerto Rico. They are a bit more spicy and salty albeit a bit skinnier that typical Vienna sausage. Can send you some!

I've never heated them up unless I'm cooking them into rice with spanish olives. I usually crack the lid, drain the liquid and just eat them right out of the can as is.
My mom's side of the family is from deep eastern Kentucky. One of my uncles saw someone open a can of Vienna Sausage, the person opening the can offered a sausage to my uncle. My uncle said with a straight face, "I don't eat those g**damn poodle peckers." I didn't stop laughing for five minutes.
I eat mine the same way with vinegar with a splash sugar. Try roasted garlic rice vinegar and the sugar too. I guess us Tar Heels think the same. Fayetteville N.C. Enjoy!
Blech, can't do Vienna sausage. Love spam and canned corned beef hash like no other but the texture of Vienna sausages just gets me. Whenever my dad made that for dinner growing up, my mind was "welp, guess I'm going hungry tonight" and it's no different now lol
Recipe idea- 1 can Vienna BBQ Sausages, 1 can Van Kamp's Pork N Beans. Quarter each Vienna sausage. In saucepan, Add Vienna quarters and their BBQ Sauce to one can can of Pork n Beans. Heat over medium heat until hot. Enjoy spooned over homemade cornbread or have cornbread as a side dish. You're Welcome.
I always liked mine with some Tabasco or Franks style hot sauce not straight apple cider vinegar bruh. But I grew up with my dad renting some movies, poppin a can open of these paired with some dice cheese, pickles, chips & that’s nostalgic snack eating for me these days. But the best was some diced all beef hot dogs boiled in beer cooked until the beer just sticky & glazed the hot dogs & those were so tasty with cheese, pickles & chips. Yum

I DIED WHEN HE SAID EITHER WAY THIS SEEMED LIKE A BAD IDEA😂 ALSO AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THAT THE TITLE SAID HEAT AND HEAT INSTEAD OF HEAT AND EAT?🤦
Around here (Germany), we eat vienna sausages warm (heated in hot water), together with mustard and potato salad.
Here in Switzerland, Cervelat are very popular. The meat is very similar to Vienna Sausages (we call them Wienerli, which means about Viennas...) together with Lyoner (which is Bologna in America) those three things have all the same meat.
Interesting.
I used to eat these and also used them for fish bait. Great all around!
one mild suggestion, when you give a rating, put it in the video as you rate it? Just a suggestion but since it's a video, it would add to the visual and stuff. Love your videos as is
Just had some the other day. Straight out of the can. No heat, no chill, just whatever the room/outdoor temperature is.
I like slicing vienna sausages and cooking them in scrambled eggs. Yum!
Please do some What are we eating about the Hispanic and Asian food aisles.
As someone from Vienna it always confuses me to see people eating COLD, CANNED and JARED Vienna sausages.
As someone from the US, I'm amazed that they actually have any relation to Vienna! I always just assumed it was a marketing name. :-)
Oh! Discovered something new. I added 1 tsp dill relish to the top of Original Viennas still in the can. Ate it with a spoon.
you said these were firmer than the original so they have changed something in the recipe. the price is the killer for me. Thats a good tip on the ACV, I need to try that
Hey Larry!
Have you tried the Carmela Vienna sausage? It is a delicacy in Puerto Rico. They are a bit more
spicy and salty albeit a bit skinnier that typical Vienna sausage. Can send you some!
My favorite is Mac and Cheese with Vienna Sausage Also like instint mash potatoes Like to add While Mac and cheese or .ash potatoes are hot This just warms them up
I've never heated them up unless I'm cooking them into rice with spanish olives. I usually crack the lid, drain the liquid and just eat them right out of the can as is.
My favorite way to eat Vienna sausage is cook over a flame like a hotdog. They are delicious on a cold day in the deer stand.
I think the horderve Plate was a little pointless although I did appreciate the thought from Mrs Wolf
I used the pre sliced ones with baked beans, close enough to beanie-weenies for me, closer to the taste than a cut up hot dog.
Yum
My gal still won't eat them but she says Mrs Wolf pit has awesome nails👍😁
Hey since you have such a strong narration voice, have you ever considered doing a podcast?
Great vid btw!
I used to love these as a kid. Tried them again as an adult, and its like where's the nearest bucket? I'm gonna hurl! Amazing how indiscriminate you are about what you eat when your six years old.
Well, the quality could have declined over the years to keep price cheap
"My meatshake brings all the boys to the yard" 😂🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
"FOR YOU THE PEOPLE"
*Soviet anthem intensifies*
I used to take the tin version camping when I was a kid.
