As someone who works at a food plant facility. The Dollar stores are referred to as 'third market sales'. And we sell our lesser quality/reject products to them. Being these meals are name brand, you best believe there is some quality issue going on with them that you would not experience if you bought them at Walmart!
Being that Walmart is almost always cheaper than other stores, I've wondered a few times if the manufacturers cut a few more corners on the stuff they ship to Walmart. I can't say I've seen much of a difference though.
I've bought on numerous occasions frozen asparagus at the Dollar Tree. It's sold under the label Jennifer's Garden. But I can see why it's so cheap. The stems are really thin, not those thick stems like you see in grocery stores. However, that has no effect on the nutritional value. I just need something healthy to eat with lunch, I don't care about the appearance. So, the Dollar Tree asparagus is a good deal for someone like me. Per ounce, it costs half as much as at the grocery store.
At least none of them had a portion of eggs. I've been cooking professionally for years & I'm by no means an actual chef but I don't think eggs were ever intended by nature to be frozen.
Did it say add butter to the french toast after cooking in the directions? Yes im making fun of you not adding anything to a TV dinner and your reply being it wasnt in the directions.
Thanks for sharing Larry!!! I gotta say, for a $1, any of these would deliver on their promise to keep someone alive and in some cases, actually double as comfort food and help someone psychologically... #TGBATG
This whole meal could be salvaged if you fry the potatoes and sausage in a pan with a little oil and cook the waffles/french toast in the toaster oven.
The best thing i've seen come out of banquet is the frozen fried chicken thigh tv dinner. Dirt cheap and uses what is clearly old hens that stopped laying, but its a zero tvp, real piece of bone-in thigh with a fried chicken skin thats surprisingly similar to what kfc used to be like, even with the fried chicken smell it gives off. Pretty greasy though. Point being if you are looking for something decent from banquet thats the choice i'd recommend. I don't know if dollar tree has it but plenty of other places do. Anyways its worth it if you're craving some decent fried chicken and don't want to pay a fortune at kfc or have to make it yourself
Just to add, make sure you get the dinner and not family pack. I just checked and it has soy protein concentrate. They only sell the mega meats dinners at my local walmart for $3 but they're still good and so tvp or soy
I have eaten the first meal, along with the Jimmy Deans' sausages (there are 5 or 6 links in that pack) to up the protein content (due to my diabetes not handling complex carbs like bread, pasta, and potatoes) for a decent breakfast. Both from the Family Dollar store a block away. Not bad for $2 Thank you for this review. Keep up the great work !!!
I'm amazed Dollar Tree had "name brand" food. Not that Brown N Serve is particularly high-quality, but at least it's something you'd expect to see in the grocery store for more than $1
I've been eating that style of sausages since I was a kid. I actually ended up disliking the casing kind because of this, so the nostalgia makes me want to try this. I still get banquet sausages by themselves.
I was busy cooking and didn't hear everything, so when you said "They just need some salt or ketchup" I thought you were still talking about the pancakes and had to wonder what sort of monster you were. Mishearing and out of context can be silly sometimes.
I'm surprised you haven't invested in a toaster oven what with all these processed meals you try out. Gives you the toasty texture you get from a conventional oven with the convenience of a microwave!
It pays to be open minded. I was recently in the hospital for 4 days. I was very afraid of the food. But it was actually ok. Their pancakes were whole wheat, and delicious with butter and syrup. The pork sausage links were good, whereas the turkey sausage links were inedible. Plus there was a cut fruit cup and good coffee. I was surprisingly pleased with the food.
I recently bought these from my dollar store, I wasn't paying attention, and when I got home realized that they didn't have the potatoes anymore!! It was just french toast and sausage. Why remove the potatoes?? I used to get two of these and cook them in the oven and it was the perfect little breakfast for 2 dollars. I know there are bigger problems in the world but what the hell man!
Hey I see you haven't posted in a whole month I still remember last year you wished me a happy birthday and my birthday is coming up again looking forward for when you come back
See, I actually like their sausages, which is odd because I usually hate the dreaded "formed meat slurry concoction".. Oh well, everyone has a weakness. Good video, as usual.
Oh God banquet sausage links. Enjoy your spongy meat. If you thought those sausage links were bad in the oven, the microwave is the worst... They expand like 2 or 3 times the normal size and take on a foul taste, and have the consistency of a wet sponge.
The banquet brown and serve MAPLE flavored sausages are my favorite. But fry them on the stove in a frying pan, do not microwave or bake them. Microwaving or baking them makes the rubbery. They are my go to sausages. You can get a 50 count bag at Walmart for $4.96.
Are you talkin about the sausage patties? I love those fried, usually put em on an egg sandwich. But the log shaped ones never taste as good to me even when fried, idk why
I believe that banquet has the worst sausage in the world. I got a box when I was 20 or so and I couldn't even eat it. The texture was way off and tasted spongy. The taste was weird like nutmeg. I just stick with swaggertys or Roger's.
The best way to make these is to throw the waffles or pancakes into a toaster and the sausage and potatoes in a skillet for 5 mins. It takes way less time and tastes much better.
I love banquet, when you grow up poor you grow up eating what you have too. I love the banquet brown and serve sausage, It doesnt seem to me how you explained the sausage.

Thank you Larry for doing tests, so we, the people, don't have to. OT: Have you heard of a "butter bell"? I have a couple of them, and (IMHO), they're WONDERFUL. You put butter in them, a bit of water, and the butter bell remains on your counter for up to 3 weeks-in the mean time, soft butter every day. (I have no interest in that product, other than I like it.)
Interesting that these products all have about 3g protein. The sausage itself SHOULD be about 5-6 and you should get even more from the other product. Must be undesirable space filler products.
I've had all of these before. The weird, rubbery Brown 'N Serve sausages are definitely the weakest links in these meals. I will not be getting the pancake version again, because I had the same experience you did. The waffle and French toast ones are fine, and the mini hashbrowns are actually pretty good.
The sausage....takes getting used to. My mom always got the banquet brown n' serve links, so they're not too bad to me. Definitely a bottom tier sausage, but you get what you pay for.
when it comes to Banquet Breakfast Sausages, ya just GOTTA sear em up in a Frying Pan, they're much better when prepared that way, flavor and texture wise.
Awesome video. Can you please do one on some of the Atkins frozen meals? BTW the beef merlot is AMAZING. you should try it and then teach us how to make that at home
After the microwave, Try rolling the sausages around in a smoking hot cast-iron skillet for a few minutes till they get a good char on the outside. Makes a huge difference!

I will not be getting the pancake version again, because I had the same experience you did. The waffle and French toast ones are fine, and the mini hashbrowns are actually pretty good.
So the sausages were the weakest link? I think it might be the wurst. 😉
@@woodsplitter3274 Your pun is most appreciated.
Okay, you made me want breakfast, for dinner. I don't have any hash browns...but I have tater tots. I'm gonna pretend they are hash browns. 😆
That is so much work for two sausages in a $1 banquet meal
@@81bnforeal nvm you right actually

I can't believe how long this dude can riff on talking about dollar meals for lmao
All I can say is that, well, I love you Larry. I love all you do for us. :)
Awesome video. Can you please do one on some of the Atkins frozen meals? BTW the beef merlot is AMAZING. you should try it and then teach us how to make that at home
I don't know what it is about these videos, but l love them and I'm getting addicted. I'd like Mr. Wolfe Pit to be the head of the FDA.
Delicious breakfast any time of the day!
Ah finally, I can have my breakfast before bed.
And why the hell not
These sausage are different than the one you buy alone. My dollar tree rips me off all these meals Don't have potatoes but fill this slot with syrup.
Wait did this seem faster than usual??
Okay...this is definitely a rehash of a past video you’ve made Larry..Kinda disappointing if you ask me.
Thank you for bringing back the plastisu and forkisu!
Haven't seen a new video in a while, I hope everything is ok
This video can be concluded in one word, america!
lol, that is the most pathetic looking thing ever.
After the microwave, Try rolling the sausages around in a smoking hot cast-iron skillet for a few minutes till they get a good char on the outside. Makes a huge difference!
Back when I was on extreme budget, I liked banquets pot pies. Never had their breakfast.
