- Hey guys, these are my initial thoughts on the new Su-30 Flanker Series Mod from Codename Flanker, I believe that this mod definitely has potential in the future to become something very, very cool, and is already a lot of fun as is.
HOWEVER, it does make me a little bummed because it again reminds us that full fidelity modern Russian aircraft will most likely never be coming for DCS World.

This mod definitely gives me mixed feelings, it is a very cool and very well done Mod BUT it just serves as a reminder that we will never see Full-Fidelity modern Russian aircraft in DCS.
Why is it that DCS cannot provide a full fidelity Russian aircraft?
@@edgi55 classified probably
@@edgi55 It is because it is to modern. To really make a full fidelity mod you would need the flight manuals, fight characteristics data and other data on the aircraft that is still classified by the country of origin such as the US or Russia. That's why we only have the F/A-14C and not the Super Hornet and the MiG-29 Fulcrum-A and not the MiG-29K Fulcrum-D. If i remember correctly a DCS employee a Russian national got arrested in Utah for trying to import F-16 manuals out of the US to Switzerland where DCS World is base.
@@bedrat2223 Thanks Bedrat2, ok yes makes perfect sense.
@@v616sirius Ok I see. Thx
I wish ED would just adopt this as a full fidelity mod. We need a good Flanker family with full cockpit interaction.
I really wish ED would open more of the SDK up to modders, at least the ability to do true multi-role aircraft mods would be awesome.
Sadly, I doubt very much that they will, because if they do, they lose their jobs. If in the current state the community achieves impressive things, imagine if they had access to the SDK. Same for maps. If ED allowed the community to make terrains, we would already have Vietnam, Korea, the South China Sea, Israel, even Switzerland...
Too bad that ED isn‘t going forward to do all this stuff - it has to be done by community 😂
@@celricaviation Because there are a huge number of things that have to be done before a module can even be considered for development. Do you realise it takes over a million dollars to develop an entire module? And that's not just me pulling a number out of the sky, that came from an interview with an ED executive in an interview with Tactical Pascale. The sheer effort and obvious hurdles is no mean feat to get a module to market, not to mention developing it.
@@LIKWID well, it depends on the module - I get your point - and you are right - it is different if you plan to release a module or if you‘re just a modder. But the people should be able to choose, if you want full fidelity it is okay to buy a module - but it would be great either if ED supports the modders more in terms of SDK, gunners, TGP and so on - they don‘t have to release the whole SDK but like the SU-30, the Blackhawk or A4E - it would be great to have them supported a bit more ;)
@@celricaviation pretty sure the SDK's had sensitive data. Which anyone can take and sell it to the highest bidder or the military to reverse engineer it. Like the J-20 which is said to have megabits of F-35 data stolen. So I see why it's limited
For those wondering about the Su-30 family, which is indeed quite extensive and complicated.
It started as a Su-27UB that was modernized and called the Su-30 but internally reffered to as the Su-27PU.
The Su-30K was a new factory build Su-27PU for export, this is where the first Su-30 outside of an upgrade for an existing airframe appears. I believe this was the initial version the Indian airforce flew with. A Su-30kI design also exists but is often wrongly associated with the indian airforce, the Su-30kI was a proposed and canceled upgrade program for single seat Su-27’s.
Then comes the Modernized Komercial Indian version or MKI, the Su-30MKI is a Su-30k that is Modernized in corporation with Indian aviation companies, and the first version with thrust vectoring and cannards, as well as avionics developed in Russia, India, France and Israel.
Then you have a whole bunch of planes derived off of that modernized indian variant. Like the MKA for algeria with French and Russian avionics.
The malaysian MKM with French, Russian, Swedish, and South-African avionics and pods.
The SM which is the Russian air force variant with Russian avionics and pods.
The SME is an export variant of the SM with the same avionics.
The SM2 is a currently ongoing upgrade program first called SM1, its meant to make the fighter more in line and sharing more components with the Su-35 by giving it the same Radar, certifying it for the same newer weapon systems, and replacing the al-31 engine with the same al-41 found in the Su-35.
Then you have the MKK which was the initial batch for China.
The MK2 is an upgraded version of the MKK with Chinese Avionics and full integration of Chinese weapons
The MKV is a sort of combined MK2 and MKK for Venezuela
The Su-30m2 is used as a training aircraft for Su-30SM/SM2 and Su-35 pilots.
MKM fun trivia:
The actual sensor fusion and symbologies are pretty much Western. It even has NAVFLIR straight outta Rafale.
Its SAAB IDAS 360 sensor suite is accurate enough to cue Laser DIRCM. It is still offered on Gripen E.
Per known leaks, it carries NATO weapons just like RMAF MiG-29Ns. It was spotted twice carrying Paveways.
There were early plans to field MICA AAMs and TopSight HMD.
RMAF paper on Su-30MKM life extension project reveals they always over-G them to 13Gs. Only engine brackets are damaged.
Legend says it has 2 sets of RWRs - SAAB RWS50 IDAS as main set, Russian Pastel just for Kh-31P ARM.
That's just what happens when you force a Hornet operator to buy Flankers.
This sounds great for export customers like India which operate a mix of western and eastern aircraft.
Hi, could you tell the name of the paper regarding the 13 G?
I looked at "Structure Life Extension towards the Structural Integrity of Sukhoi Su-30MKM" and could not find that number there.
Edit: you mean "Crack Growth Prediction on Critical Component for Structure Life Extension of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Sukhoi Su-30MKM"?
@@BlackPixxelDE yes,, the latter paper. It was mentioned once in the problem description paragraph. I doubted it at first but then I had other personnel telling me personally. Apparently they did it to their MiG-29Ns too (to the point the skin buckled) and always do this in foreign joint exercises.
Funnily enough the F-18s did not receive the same abuse - probably due to the fact that those 8 Hornets are the actual critical backbone of their fleet.
@@mimimimeow Yes, 13g seems pretty crazy for that big machine. I wonder what the lighter Su-35 is capable of then!
@@entropyembrace We already do something like this on the MKIs as well
Hey Spud, MKI -The aircraft is tailor-made for Indian specifications and integrates Indian systems and avionics as well as French and Israeli sub-systems
I Derby -ER which is integrated to MKI is of Israel origin ,Rafael Advanced Defense Systems beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile.
Yep, and it served as the Basis of the family
Of aircraft built at the Irkut factory in Russia that includes the MKM, MKA and SM.
@@Spudknocker SU 30- MKI mod here also has indian developed weapons like Astra Mk-1( fox 3) , Brahmos (air to ship) , Rudram (anti radiation missile) and also DRDO SAAW(Smart anti-airfield weapon) most of all developed by Indian DRDO(Defence research and development organization) available here in mod.
Another cool feature that it offers - a full RWR on one of the MFD pages, with symbology that actually shows where the incoming missle is and where it's coming from...has a little dot that represents the missle lol.
This is def one of the most believable mods I have seen. Plus, they _really_ knocked it outta the ball park with how beautiful it looks
🤜💥🤛
I am the oddball I guess, but I prefer the MiG-29s over the Flankers, but I welcome all mods. Thanks for the review, Sir!
Well, India operates Mig29s and Su 30 MKIs both but when the China confrontation started, India went in and purchased more Migs even though the purchase of Su30s would have been more logical because they are licensed manufactured in India, far superior to the Migs and ofcourse, Avionics, EMW capabilities... all the shabang.
Why was the Mig chosen over Su ?
Exceptional performance at high altitudes and mountains of Himalayas, familiarity, thrust to weight was also a factor.
So, no, you are not old.... Your preference for Migs aligns with an entire nation's air force which has both the aircrafts in active service.
@@omshree901 Thank you, Sir!👍
Really cool, thanks for share
R27P missiles are something new to be seen in DCS. Guiding to enemy plane radar emissions. Regarding variants
M(odernised)K(Comercial/Export)I/K/V/A(first letter of Country intended for).
very cool!
its amazing
SU-30MK is what we all need bro
Great video! I thought that the r77 was actve radar though.
It is
Can't wait for all the videos of this thing smoking BLUEFOR
i can't believe that have came out OOOOOOOOOOOOO
I like the reflections on the MFD's and other surfaces
The third letter of the MK[?] nomenclature (mostly) just gives away their export destination. MKI for India, MKM for Malayasia
The SU-30 family is not so complicated. Development of this aircraft started in late 80-s and after some stages of work came to SU-30MK model. It became the base of several export models: MKI (MK for India), MKM (MK for Malaysia), MKK (MK for China, rus. "Kitay"). And then the most modern model SU-30SM was made for Russian air forces.
I got 1 for that malaysia su30 its really cool
What if DCS relaese a "basic aircraft" for modders that include tgp, radar (and so on) functionality? Like an aicraft that mixes all the functions of FC3 modules?
Not a real aircraft but as I said a basic model without even texture or 3d model, just to give the functions that modders can work on to create their project
EDIT:
Or something like:"okay, we put radar, HUD, TGP, DL, instruments, devices and weapons from all FC3 modules in this single aircraft... Do What you want with it"
What you are describing is the SDK essentially
@@Spudknocker yeah my idea was: what if they give SDK without giving SDK... Not sure if it make sense 😅.
Or something like:"okay, we put radar, HUD, TGP, DL, instruments, devices and weapons from all FC3 modules in this single aircraft... Do What you want with it"
I gree with you . So people can makes their own .
Don't see it happening, DCS is a simulation, modsers have inherent biases... They usually beef up aircrafts of their own country. Other modders counter this move by beefing up their own mods...
Basically, in a time span of 5 years, you are going from DCS to Battlefield 2042(joking ofcourse)
@@omshree901 this is already happening with some mods... So it wouldn't change anything. However, even with official modules it could happen ... For example I am not very convinced that the RCS of the jf-17 corresponds to reality.
i'm a "purist" too and i don't want my experience to become something like ace combat, in fact mods like su-57, F-22 or J-20 i don't even consider them. however there are modders who are making an effort to bring good quality mods, for example: F-104, SU-24, hawker hunter, A-29, pucara, c-130, (this su-30), t-45 and so on...
However is a personal choise if you want use them or not.
Is the R-77M missile model the same as in the Su-35 mod, or their own separate one?
Those guys should collaborate..
6:55 and 7:08, the nozzle movement is incorrect. These are two 2D TVC nozles, pivoted 36 degrees. There is no inward-outward horizontal movement for them.
Nope only the F-22 has 2D TVC nozzles
@@shaanmehta4014 Su-30/35/37, F-15 STOL/MTD, and the MiG-29 OVT/35 demo have 2d
flankers have it at said 36 degree angle and the F-15 STOL/MTD and fulcrums have it vertically like the F-22
My bad, you're right.@@moldyspoons5277
this is a cool mod! Are the mirrors functional as well? Or is that still in the works?
Yes they just don’t look great like the FC3 Jets
Dont get when we get something free we all gripe about it. Sorry Model looks good Cockpit looks good. The flight model will be tuned. The Skyhawk was the same in the beginning.
This is just great. Let the Russians be heard again, it'll be truly interesting to study them as we had enough of western ones
not sure if i understand the physics of it, but the vectoring looks weird when using rudder, they point to each other and away, instead of both moving in the same direction....
My favorite jet besides the f-16
When I delete the file, the weapon is working and working, and I enter a game and choose the Sukhoi 30mka plane, but when I enter the cabin, a game comes out, I don't know why
what is the targeting pod being used?
The only thing I can control is the rudder.. roll and elevation axis do not work
taxiis like a gokart and dropped me down to 30fps when I usually run 100...this mod just isnt there yet
@Spudknocker are you still doing one on one trainings? Checked Patreon and your discord channel link isn’t working. If so I’m interested…
Are these free non-ed mods able to be played with online? Ive never used one
EXP to expand or zoom on TV
Sadly the MiG-29 9-12 is still a plan so far. Afaik ED hasnt confirmed it yet if we are getting it at all
Yes they did confirm that they're working on the mig 29. It's coming sometime after black shark 3. So maybe 2023.
Has SU-30SM BVR capacity?
I don't find keys for the radar and select weapons.
I installed the latest mod (2.01b) but thrust vectoring seems not work?
good news, dekaironworks are working on the su30mkk but it's still not fully decided yet, so maybe we still have a chance on a modern flanker.
I thought they had dispelled those rumors?
@@Spudknocker they worked on a basic flight model and the 2 seat system along with the multiple language and autopilot system, but it is not confirmed will the plane be final, afterall there still is the Q5,H6,J8 too
They did, not enough documentation on the systems for a full fidelity module.
So I’m going to be purchasing a rtx 3060 ti and I’ll be running this game on a 16gb ram as well as a i5 11400f,does any one know ball park how many fps I’ll get on high setting on a single player mission? Will improve in the future with the vulkan api?
Which plane is needed for installation?
Flaming Cliffs 3
Hi, I need some help (new in dcs). This is the first mod what I try to add to dcs. When I started dcs message came up this aircraft not authorised :( what should I do?
You need to own the SU-33 to use this mod.
Do I need any modules for this
Does it pass integrity check for you when it’s installed? Not letting me play multiplayer with it installed
Where can we get this mod?
what about the su30 mk2.
It works with out the su 33?
No
being very new to DCS how do I get this aircraft?
Do you have the SU-33/Flaming Cliffs 3?
Чарли Чаплин снимал?
oh... where i can sell my soul and take proofs?
The R-77 is NOT "semi"-active!!!

..what's wrong with widescreen?
@@verticalflyingb737 I like spudnocker as a creator, I just don't like ultra widescreen. I just prefer 16/9
The flight model is totally not right. Can’t stall it at any speed
SFM- Simple flight model. The one the AI uses
The Su-30 is just that good /s
We will see tons of videos of the SU30 mod totally whooping the other jets that use EFM/AFM making you wonder why the Russians even wasted time on developing the Su57 and the Indians spending billions on the Rafale purchase 🙄
@@bukhariali71 cause enemy has better aircraft than this country and this jet is kind outdated that's their replace with new aircraft
I'm working on better one ! This one is full of mistakes.
If it's a Russian aircraft I think it's known as a "he" not a "she/girl".
SFM, nahhh I'll pass
i dont like all these upcoming mods !
