  • Kit lenses are, for the most part, what you get started with but what you upgrade away from rather quickly. The Lumix 14-42 is pretty much the same story.

that "sticky zoom" shown at 4:24 is part of why that lens only cost 60 euro - - but great video - - watched while considering getting a G7 for $289 ! Wasn't that long ago we couldn't find *anything* with decent video in 4K under $450-$500 USD .... finally that's starting to change, it seems....

Thank you for such an informative video! I’m thinking about getting one for 80usd at eBay, and your video really helped! Also, beautiful video!

You probably would want the version ii in the 14-42. Even though I have other kit lenses, it is adequate for what it does.

This was a good introduction to an entry level, do-it(mostly)-all M43 lens. I'm not sure it's fair to compare it to the 12-60 f2.8-4 or the 12-35 f2.8 as they are marketed as much better lenses from the start. Is it plastic? Yes. Does it rattle? Yes (most Lumix with IS do that too). That said, I agree with @krone5 that the real benefit of the 14-42mm f3.5-56 is in the II version. Instead of being 61mm diameter and 64mm long, the II is 56mm diameter & 49mm long. Comparing it to other lenses and systems, the 14-42 is the same focal length as the Nikon 18-55mm. Mating a 14-42 II to something small like the Lumix GF series gives you a very capable daily carry camera at a fraction of the size. In fact, weighing the Nikon ASP-C & 18-55 at 28.75oz (815g), the Lumix GF3 & 14-42mm II weigh less than half at 13oz (368g). If a small travel size kit with fair zoom is in order, this is a good lens for that!

Pronouncing the way he did is a slang term for it. Like calling Yosemite the way it's spelled. It's been a thing for about 10 years now. It's usually used in a sarcastic or nonchalant way.
