The falseto is off-putting for many people. But it's an acquired taste. In the end I think it's pretty badass.
King uses what’s called reinforced falsetto it’s not your standard falsetto. It’s where he makes it sound questionable on purpose then jumps right into a more balanced falsetto when he hits those long range notes
King Diamond! Noone can do Falsetto better than him in metal. He sings like this because his grandma was very superstitious and made him sing in that voice to scare away ghosts and spirits when he was growing up. He is a satanist. the Symbol King Diamond uses for his album covers is the actual satanic cross. Upside down crosses don't resemble satanism. But take that with a grain of salt because he is a really good dude and is mostly just a horror story teller. All of his albums are concept albums and the songs all tell a larger story in sequence when playing the album in full. Another little fun fact, King Diamond is one of Metallicas favorites bands, they also do a cover of a Mercyful Fate song (King Diamonds older band) along with Mercyful fate themselves.

I was at this show (actually made it onto the dvd!!). It was indescribable being immersed in this epic performance. Every single song was phenomenal, and King incredibly crushed every note. Exodus was great as the opener. I liked watching your reaction, and the respect. Peace, dude.

And with King Dimond...each voice switch up is like a different character is the storyline. If I remember right, King's first 3 albums were just one big story.
Third and fourth albums (”Them” and ”Conspiracy”) are one story. The story of ”Abigail” continues on ”Abigail lI: The Revenge”.

The upside down cross ✝️ came about because Saint Peter requested to be crucified upside down since he said and felt as though "he was not worthy" to be crucified in the same manner as the Lord Jesus" which is something any believer can relate to that sentiment.
The band merciful fate was recording in Denmark at the same location as Metallica during the time or ride the lighting in fact metallica did a tribute to merciful fate in the garage days ep. Merciful fate Melissa is my favorite

Do you mean the compilation album of rare demo tracks? Burning the Cross is my favorite track from that album. I really like the raw sound of these demos.

The inverted cross is often used alongside other satanic imagery. Really though, it's actually more of a pious symbol than the standard cruciform if you look into it. The inverted cross was used by Saint Peter, who was crucified upside down as he didn't feel he was fit to have the same death as Christ itself. So, for King Diamond, it is just an inversion of the Christian cross, but for Christians it is the cross of St Peter or Petrine cross.

Exactly, a case of a pious symbol being perverted for evil. Though in KD's case I think it's more for theatrics, to set a mood.

You have to listen to an entire album of his. They are all horror themed concept albums that tell a story from beginning to end, I like to call him the Stephen King of metal music. Seriously, it’s like a movie. I recommend the Abigail album for starters, but in my opinion the best STORY he ever wrote was the Puppet Master.
King Diamond is pretty badass... but album version of Eye of the Witch (Album called the Eye) is fire. The album is fun too if you pay attention to lyrics as the album is one story.
Should check out King Diamonds previous band Mercyful Fate, one of the first Black Metal bands.
King Diamond is one of my favorites band's. I have seen him twice live on the Voodoo tour in Philadelphia, Pa and most recently in Baltimore, MD. His like his music is an experience like no other. Van if you want deep cut of King listen to and react to Voodoo. It has an excellent creole drum solo at the beginning and one of the least heard solos by Dimebag Daryl of Pantera. But really get a true feel you must listen to an entire album as they tell haunting and awesome stories. I would love for someone to take one of Kings' albums and make a movie from it, King has given you everything you need to do it. Long Live the KING!!

King Diamond is not for everyone but I tell ya, he grows on you like fungus. First with his initial band Mercyful Fate and then as a solo artist, he crafted everlasting music. Most of his albums are concept albums that are best enjoyed when listened in its entirety.
I rememeber buying my first King Diamond tape! I hid it from my family becuase I thought it was so Satanic. It was a bit mcuh for me as a teenager. I have grown to love Kind Diamond! They are my favorite band of all time! I f**king love these guys. I am an Atheist now! I don't hide this shyte from my family now!

King Diamond should be listened and reacted to album at a time. With two exceptions, KD albums are concept albums drom start to finish and tell a (twisted) horror story. Some of the stories are even spread across multiple albums.
King Diamond is probably the greatest band of all time.
No matter who the band is, everyone in the world should experience at least one metal concert in their life. Disappointment will not be there.
Technically the upside-down cross has no evil meaning but metal often uses it as a insult to Christianity and its just kind of par for the course in metal like 666 and pentagrams.

The upside down cross is commonly associated with evil and that's why it's part of the stage theatrics. One of the earlier usages has to do with St.Peter mocking Christ, but that's not how they're using it in this context.

It was originally a Christian symbol, but at some point the Christians (as gullible as horses with carrots in front of their faces) were led to believe it was an anti-Christian symbol. Can't remember the exact circumstances, honestly, but that's the gist.
But it's like Baphomet; originally, Baphomet was a mistranslation of "Mohammad" during the crusades (basically, people played "telephone" dozens of times and "Mohammad" ended up as "Baphomet"), and since Christians thought Muslims were a force of evil, "Baphomet" became, in their minds, a demon. Despite the fact that it was simply a linguistic error. And thousands of people have died because of it. Religion is goddamn stupid.
