NOTE: If your monitor does not support Gsync and you do not have this option in the Nvidia control panel just ignore this step and jump to the next one. No all monitors support Gsync and I do not mention this during the video.
Note Im not expert and I found this solution by luck and trying similar things from different videos and forums. I do not even the exact sience behind all this and why for most of us it works.

It wasn't possible for me to find a decent answer on the forums, because people were constantly starting to argue with each other over off topic stuff, like older drivers, wrong components, needing 3rd party software etc... etc..

IF IT DIDN'T FIX YOUR MONITORS: I found out after doing this that going into windows displays settings, clicking on "advanced display settings", then selecting the monitor you want with a higher refresh rate, the clicking display adapter properties for that monitor, clicking on the "monitor" tab, then you can select the framerate there. I don't know why it doesn't automatically go to the highest or why it doesn't change when in NVIDIA control panel it says it's 144 hz (for mine) but doesn't actually go at the refresh rate but this fixed my problem. Hope it helps!!
That is a known issue but not related with this one. To change refresh rate always do it from Windows and not from nvidia

holy shit thank you so much! I was about to actually buy another gsync tn panel because i figured out the 60hz monitor was the issue and couldnt find an answer on reddit or nvidia forums. Saved me a few hundred bucks!

Thanks, it works! I just did it, main monitor it's a 144hz one and the secondary one it's 120hz and it was limiting to 120hz but seemed much lower and it was stuttering.. all gone now.
Just plugged in a 75hz monitor with a 165hz monitor
Helped out a ton! (Still having slower hz with browsers on 165hz, but it is definitely refreshing higher than it normally does when plugged in)

Thx bro... this still works today! I’m editing on premiere and as soon as I added a second monitor, my playback was lagging bad! This fixed it!💪🏿

I had this issue with my monitor and this video helped alot. What i did find however is that when i played a video on my 60 in chrome my game would cap at 60 for no reason. Theres 2 easy fixes for this. Either keep the video minimised or not on screen (music) or simply migrate to another browser. Both chrome and Nvidia claim its each others fault so it isnt gonna be fixed any time soon. I recommend switching to Firefox. Good luck guys

Crazy three years later fixed my issue, was recently having the problem of running a game on my primary monitor and out of the blue id be watching youtube on the side and experienced almost a lag/ latency issue only when i was on the main screen in fullscreen issue fixed cheers.

I only had to enable GPU resizing in the Nvidia Control Panel and the problem was solved. I use MSI afterburner to check the fps and it immediately helped. Thank you

You are my favorite person in the world right now. I've been dealing with this issue for years, just trying to live with it or work around it. what do you mean after all set up in nvdia control panel that you have to go fullscreen and then window mode and fullscreen, what do you mean by that? what fullscreen and what window mode, and where? In game? thanks
If it still doesn't work after changing it from display to GPU then you have to go into stream labs and delete display capture and only use game capture. I was scrolling on the comments on a different video and I found this fix, I was so happy, I can't believe nobody has found this fix yet. Pin this comment so everyone can see, I'm pretty sure this is a 100% fix to this issue... Spreading the word!

yes the problem is windows creator update, so amd and nvidia users are affected in the same way. I really gave up and I got an ultrawide monitor and my life is much easier. Now works with this fix for some people, but tomorrow will be another update and again another issue. It is a lost war to me XD, glad it worked for you.
i started having the same issue any movement or pulling things on my 60 hz monitor affects my 144 hz monitor having insane fps drops even i am watching streams or yt videos.... sometimes it locks to 30 fps on my 144 hz monitor if i set my 144 hz back to 60 hz no more stuttering but the 144 hz wasted here and unfortunaltey this did not fix my problem :(

Thanks for the tip! Just to add, this will only work for using your dual monitors in extended display, It won't work if its on duplicate as I soon figured out.
I have a Radeon GPU and simply enabling GPU scaling on both displays mostly solved the problem for me, without disabling hardware acceleration in browsers. I say "mostly" because now the problem only occurs when the Radeon settings window is displayed on the 60hz monitor, but it doesn't happen with browsers anymore.
Edit: after some more testing, disabling HW acceleration in browsers is necessary. When a RUclips video plays for example the problem appears again.

Nice. Works for AMD too. In the AMD control panel thingy, just go to display and set it to GPU scaling on.

Thank you so much dude, even tho I have an RX 580 and the AMD's Program is different, I managed to fix it by Enabling on both monitor the GPU Scaling. Now everything is smooth :)

I have an RX 480 and unfortunately none of this fixed it for me. It's fine for 20 seconds after rebooting, then the problem returns.
If I set it to only show the display on the primary monitor, the problem goes away. But that's not exactly a solution.
can you tell me how you did that? I have a 580 also and the AMD Radeon Software but idk how to configure it.

By far the easiest fix, rather than using internal graphics card for the 60hz monitor. Should have 144hz or close to it as long as you don't play video on secondary 60hz monitor. Thank you Maltes.

Son las 5:40am y no podía dormir por qué ayer después de 4 horas con servicio al cliente de Nvidia no logré nada y no podía dormir así que decidí ver más videos y di con el tuyo, ya había hecho todos los pasos que dices (Chrome y panel de control Nbidia) y nada pero el truco fue poner Overwatch en full screen y luego de regreso a borderless window y BUM! problems resuelto! Estoy muy feliz, solo he jugado una partida pero funciono muy bien, espero que ya se mantenga así siempre!

I have experienced all kind of dual monitor problems. For example dual 75 Hz monitor with Intel HD it can be necessary to force both to 75 Hz instead of 60 Hz since the second one can be flickering. Another common thing is Hz like 20-30 that has to be forced up.

You are welcome. A friend told me yesterday that is using DVI cable for the 60hz monitor instead of hdmi and display port cable for 144hz and is not having this issue. I didn't check but is worth to try as well. Cheers
