- We try and break our record one more time with 18hoopT. This is a stock long block AWP small port 1.8T with a handful of good parts chucked at it. With over 40 runs over 400whp this thing has been through the ringer for sure. Has it finally met it's demise?
For those just joining in we decided to piece together a turbo kit and test out just how much power we can make in this clapped out MK4 called 18HoopT. Entire playlist of how we got to this point is here • 1.8T Stock Engine Big ...

07K next for sure! If you have replacement 1.8T engine already, I say you swap it in and finish what you started. We want fiery explosions!!!
Honestly, this is the drag car Humble Mechanic needed for his race against Gears and Gasoline
Good call
Lmao honestly. I had an arguement with some dude in the local car group of my town and he was arguing that you need to sleeve and put forge rods in your 1.8t after like 350 whp. I then showed him the link to the previous record video and he said he didn't believe any youtube guys, that he knew more lmao.
Yes lol this would’ve destroyed the crx.
I could have a drink and watch a live teardown. I'm still curious to see how far a 1.8t will go until boom. Next maybe a stock 2.5 with a snail and see what happens ?
Ill second that!
I'll third that!
I'll 4th that!
no 2.5 weak 1.8t dif
@@ryanXmilton who doesn’t love a 5 cylinder symphony
“I bought another turbo for the car” “ we aren’t going to spend a lot of money on this build” very interesting words, also do a Tiguan next so I can copy please
Well we sold the other turbo. So it's a transitional upgrade. 😉
@@COMotorsports vr6 turbo or 07K please
Havent seen a 07k turbo really go crazy only ttrs 👀
@@rogerfredericks240 it's gonna happen
@@COMotorsports i be here for the episode 😝😝😝
Darn I was hoping for a bigger explosion but it’s impressive how it didn’t
Your tuning capabilities is very wicked, with all that boost and factory rods still in good standing i'm very impressed. Wish i could get you to tune my 1.8t.
Much appreciated. 👍
You do tune cars for a living right ? You take customers still lol?
I would like you to tune the awd 1.8 man
Live teardown would be cool.. and 2.5 build* gets my vote
Thank you for testing the limits of the 1.8t. Really good nunbers💯
Live stream the teardown and for the new engine, I say a stock 2.5, throw a turbo and see how far it can go
Would love to see a stock 07k push the limits!
Send it to the moon @comotorsports!
I was under the impression that the 07 cant make as much with stock internals. ???
@@easycomeeasygo8901 I’m putting down 400whp on stock internals. At 3000 pounds it’s pretty decent.
@@easycomeeasygo8901 some dyno figures have unopened motors making 400-450ish. (depending on the dyno)
@@boostedrabbit what pressure and turbo did that get you 400? I'm @14lbs un-dynoed UM tune.
No live stream. A detailed tear down would to great since I’m having issues with my 1.8t. 😆 Great job once again. 👍🏽
When you tear it down please mic each piston while turning the motor over. I'm curious if 45lbs maby made variable length rods haha. Either way I'm stoked on the outcome of this whole process it was enjoyable to watch and follow along!
XOX
Definitely needs rods and pistons in before killing it off fully! Now you have a new turbo for it 😂😂😂 v5 and vr6 over done 🥱🥱😴😴
Pure power for the 1,8T’s is where it’s at!
As an 8v guy I would love to see a 2 liter 8v turbo build
Even tho I'm running a AWM 1.8T with my 04' Passat GL Wagon 5-Speed i wouldn't want to throw that much on mine as I'd like 2 get the most of it so if I do go down that route I'd have the supporting clutch, refurbish the trans, and follow up with most of the addon's u have addressed. After the summer is ending I'll be getting rid of the side mount intercooler and so on. Running the wagon in stock class for the shows around here coming up. Nice to know they can handle a beating as I knew they where solid engines. Been around in variations for a long time.
No matter what you guys do with it or what people say, the fact this thing made almost 600hp with 300+ kilos is insane to me no matter what was done to the engine Lolol, keep killing it guys🤙🏼
I think doing a 2.5 next would be pretty cool
please vr6 turbo all stock internals
I was ready to see boom :-o
VR6 would be interesting....
2.5t or 2.0big turbo would be sick 👌
Lets see how far you could go with a turbo 2.5l with stock internals!
If it was an AP engine, the EA827, it would handle 1.4bar stock. Nice experiment with this VW!
I’m so close to ordering the pnp set up for my project I can’t wait!
I think we should stick to the plan of how much it can go what's the limit.
I would like the live teardown fix the valve's and back to the Dyno .
Cheers
Well we sort of found it as it's not making more power. Lol
I had the same problem. Valves had kissed the cylinders. Turned out the hydraulic belt tensioner went weak. Also check your cam lobes. The tips on mine were flattened
Yeah can be a lot of things. The issue is, every second we waste on it.... Is literally that a waste of time. We'll just do a tear down on it, instead of wasting time trouble shooting it.
597 is amazing video and well executed and explained on the 1.8t platform amazing guys
Appreciate it.
I would love to see a gritty bare bones 24v turbo project please! Also, I would watch a live stream of the tear down
Thanks for all the great vw tuning content. I have been searching for this content and recently found you channel and have been binge watching whenever i can. It was the first channel I hit the notifications button for.
Great video. Can't wait for the next engine
This has been a great series! Since it didn't blow up, tear it down and build it again.
It may never "blow up". Busted ringlands, bent valves, melted pistons all wreck an engine.
Would love to see a 2.5 with nagasaki air whirler on it. Throw some of those "maxpeedingrods" on it and see if they're junk.
I'd be curious to see real world beating on those rods
Outstanding job!!!!
Thanks
Great stuff guys, thanks for taking us along for the ride 🙌
Glad you enjoyed it
tear down would be interesting, Ive seen stock rods bend just shy of 400whp but that was on a small turbo.
Yep torque spikes will take them out easily.
Fact It took over 40lbs of boost, almost 600WHP and way higher RPM is very impressive.
In real life, on the track (1/4), you will be able to do few runs in this setup and it will blow up. On the street it will blow up. Load îs different, temperatures are different (load for rods, temperature for ex valves). This was a test. On 400-500hp setups pistons are cracking sooner or later. with rods only, pistons crack between rings and so on…good luck!
And some simple valve springs would have made a world of difference.
@@alexrusu6008 who said it has to last more than 1 minute?
@@fryta.this was a test but people like you can not take it as it is. no one said it has to last and that was not the idea of this video. you give wrong advice to people to cheap out on internals and spend more on turbo :)). i like things to last and i belive everyone likes this. i have a 800+ hp 1.8t....5th year and counting (only mainantance - con rod bearings, gaskets etc.).... maybe more that 250 1/4 mile runs + daily driven at some point without any fail. so i know what i'm talking about.
Y’all taking the original comment and making something it’s not lol
Loving the vids following from the uk, very impressive figures for a stock 1.8t, maybe try a 2.0tfsi for the next project?
Fueling is the issue with those.

It really is a badass engine! I just hope my auto transmission likes a stage 1 tune 😂
My Mk4 has been going strong for over two years and 12k miles on a Stage 1 GIAC with the 5 Speed Auto.
I know the pain of scoping off your phone..how I got by for years. Saved my father from having to buy my sister a new car though lol
I’m all for 2.5 things, because the builds in the RUclips realm are scarce in my personal opinion. Scarce in the sense that people throw up a video of “DIRT NASTY BOOSTYBOI 2.5” with zero information about it lol
Love the content guys, spring is here! Warmer weather! Hope y’all are doing well up in your neck of the woods! 🤙🏻
Much appreciated. Racing season is approaching. 👍
07K!!!!! Please i think there's a lot of people dying to see someone really push the limits of the stock 2.5 and feel like the VR is already known to be tried and true.
Thanks for the video, good work guys
Audi 10vt lump would be awesome
I'm in for a teardown for sure
I’ve got all the parts ready to go. Just need a tuner. Would be fucking honored to be tuned by yall, im in cali so it would be a mission
All depends on ECU and setup. Email us.
I’m curious if someone put in some rods when they blew the timing bet blew the first time? Either way you got nothin left to prove with this. That much hp consistently with this platform is awesome.
Thanks.
Pretty sure you could see piston marks on the valves when you were showing the possible camera angle swaps on your new scope. With the new scope you will be able to see the valves and tell if the valves/head have been swapped
It's coming apart soon.
If you already got a bigger turbo for it might as well test it out !! Absolutely beasty little thing
Great as always guys.
Find a wrecked 1.4T 5 speed Jetta that can roll and push that to it's limits. Those are very underrated and cool engines.
I really think I'll be doing one in the caddy or 944. I think they can do 450-500whp on stock internals just like the 2.0tsi lol
The issue will be fueling and tuning options to push it at all. Not an easy task.
Super great video 😀😀
Awesome video Co!!
Sorry I'm late to the party. Friggin amazing that thing took that much abuse! Love it!! Definitely do a stock 2.5 next ❤️
Much appreciated. More coming for sure.
Insane numbers guys.
I got a 2slow growing rust I would love to build some day once im done with all my wives projects.
I'd like to see a full in-depth teardown of the engine, showing all the parts in details, to see what exactly happened.
It's coming
It would be really cool to see you guys do something with a mk2 or one of the 8v that come in it, had one of those for my first car and always wondered if it would take boost well
You guys should hit the drag strip that would be sick to see what time this thing makes
Did you miss where we said it's hurt?
are you planning to do a tear down of the engine?? Was the oil pan ever removed to check to see if this thing had drop in rods??? 43psi on stock rods would be CRAZY!
We will do a tear down. It's just finding the time outside regular work. It's coming.
That's good for the fan 😂😂
Live stream it. It sucks 3hp away. Great job! I would like to see a 12v VR6 as the next project.
Where are you based?
Would love to see a turbo'd 24v 3.2l VR6 with just a head spacer with stock internals. Then do the same as this, see how far it can go on the best pump gas and then on E85 or something
Pump gas doesn't test anything. It's junk and not something you use when testing the HP limits.
@@COMotorsports I only ask as you can’t get E85 or similar here in the UK
@@OctaneFever Pretend we're using race fuel then. Going to be similar results.
That's incredible 👏 ❤
Please don't strip her down. Fix the valve issue's with some upgraded exhaust valves too. Strap a bigger turbo and lets make more power!! I wanna see her limit plz 😂
Teardown would be mad, also, maybe see how much one can actually take, after this one broke?
I'm loving your videos, I'm almost finished building a Fiesta mk6 with a 1.8 20v engine with a t04e turbo 🤣 I'm gonna blow it to the moon 🤣😂
I think you should see how much hp you can make on a stock obd1 aba engine (no head spacer)
The issue with that stuff is it's so old now it's not as easy to find honestly. Mk4 12vs are hard enough to find now a days.
@@COMotorsports ahh okay makes sense they are abundant in the states but I would say a 2.5 I think that would be an interesting test that and they sound wicked
I'd love to see a teardown!!!
Great series, can't wait for the tear down. How high can you push the RPMs on one with a built valvetrain?
Hydro 8500. Solid lifters further.
@@COMotorsports Would you say 8500 for a 16v hydro head too with springs and Ti retainers/seats??
@@conorjamesthomson I've ran my 16v for a very long time at 8500rpm with springs/retainers and hydro. In fact most of that was with stock retainers, and just springs. Lol
@@COMotorsports So now you are solid you will go past 9k??
@@conorjamesthomson yeah already solid. Soft cut at 9200, hard at 9500.
Even if this did turn out to have chinese rods from prev owner or whatever this is amazing! Something to be said for old school iron blocks etc. And yeah, this level of control over combustion helps
These iron blocks have held 1k HP, however generally fail around that point.
@@COMotorsports Bummer about valves. Been there, done that, ran the same dented pistons lol.
I'd like to see a 12v vr6 stock with a turbo kit and see what it could do.👌🤞👍
dude the absolute violence whent 1.8 liters are trying to push 600hp
Hey quick question, would it be better to do a compression test when the engine is cold? Or when at operating temp
Common info, engine up to temp.
Pretty good for stock engine. Built engine next and 1000 👌
A lot needs to happen to make 1000 in these. Expense goes 3xs higher.
@@COMotorsports yeah costs are going up but nothing nonsense tbh. We have ran few cars at 850-900range and most reliable is the 900hp engine so far. Key factor seems to be not to over bore. 850 engis with stroker crank and bored to 2l did crack cylinder quite often. Now with 900 with just stroker crank (1.9l) and stock bore runs great. Btw do you use e85 fuel?
@@bigdiffas that's not 1000whp though. 😉 There is a difference when trying to make those numbers. Yes running E.
@@COMotorsports that is very much true.
I want to see how much a 2.5 07k can hold before kicking the bucket.
Seeing as its already hurt, you could show the people what happens if you get to excited with the tune in the mid range?? Lets see some real carnage!.....bendy Mcbenderson
I’m definitely in the same boat as you , 2.0l 8v aren’t worth messing with. I’m sure 99% of us all agree. But what if you took one and made it make everyone take a second thought of them. I mean, they’re so cheap people can’t give them away lol.
You can't get much cheaper than a running 1.8t for $400cdn....see my point here. Why start with a 2l when these are so cheap.
Apologies if this is a dumb question. But when you go BT or even swap turbo at all, do you keep the aux water pump? or do you replace it with something different?
Always stock on VW/Audis'.
2.5 turbo push it!!!!
how about rebuild with cheap rods and some SS exhaust valves and spring kit, find some used pistons, new rings and slap it together for 800hp. Also it would be interesting to see how the bearing held up at that power.
We do built engines all the time though.
Insane
Fantastické job man.You are ewesome.
Thank you for this data, it´s very same kind of approach into engines durability as I do. However hone marks seem to look fairly fresh and combined with old damages in pistons, its possible that engine isn´t unopened from factory. On that case it MAY have china H-profiles in since they are sometimes cheaper and easier to have than stock rods. However i don´t doubt these numbers once torque comes enough high revs but certain is certain, i have quite similar setup on my Golf Mk3 1.8T Syncro Cabriolet myself with stock internal AEB engine with 1200cc´s and Holset HX40 super and it´s just perfect. I´d like to update valve springs and propably rod bolts to get rev range higher where stock internals works the best.
So, did you ever check inside this block?
@@kantikai follow along with the series. We do a full tear down. It's all stock.
@@COMotorsports Thank you. What I looked from this episode, i think intake valve marks are from earlier damage and propably some of exhaust valve marks as well. When boost pipe pops out there´s lots of exhaust manifold pressure for a small time once port closes due boost drop, so i´d say new damages are on exhaust valves only and happened mostly because boost pipe issue what caused high EMP and valve float, not by their being fully outdated by revs and normal situation emp yet. Although i´ll bet EMP begins to be on high side if there´s 3 bars (4 bars absolute) with this turbo, that´s the number what i always measure with importance over the boost figures when searching limits.
@@kantikai after inspecting valve marks were from previous life. The valves were fine after tear down. The rods bending was the issue
Awesome video!! Just subscribed. Will the AEB block have similar results? I have a 99.5 that has AEB block and head.
Maybe slightly stronger, but they're all a gamble at this level I'm stock form.
Amazing. I just bought a Passat wagon with 1.8 and upgraded turbo. The throttle body has been replaced and it doesn’t run right so I guess it needs to be reset to operate with the ecu. At least that’s what I’m hoping. It’s refreshing to see how much power you can make and not explode after just trading for this wagon.
If it's wasn't a stock throttle body your going to have issues. Either put stock TB back on or retune.
thanks for the vid deff following your vids on mk4 gti. you guys should build one !!!
We did, it's in this video. lol
@@COMotorsports i mean internals !
@@byronramirez299 well there are plenty of built 1.8ts on the channel already honestly. We'll see what transpires with it.
I can't find the tear down anywhere in the video list, is it still planned, or did I just miss it?

This really makes me want to just throw a big turbo manifold and injectors at my car
I think a vr6 would be a good one that everyone would like to see. A 2.7t would be great too and i feel like itd be similar to the 1.8ts results as long as youre using a big turbo that spools slow. Does this video confirm i should just set my 1.8ts rev limit at 7000?
No one wants to work on a 2.7t lol
@@COMotorsports obviously but itd attract a whole other side of vag to your channel. Big single turbo with a hood dump wouldnt be too hard i dont think
@@joshuafarwell9761 I've done turbo upgrades on them. They're terrible to work on. Since this type of build is done after hours and this is all donated time that we're not getting paid for it would be a terrible option for my personal life and sanity. Lol Remember we're a very small YT channel, the small kickback we do get hasn't even covered the filming/audio/computer gear we use let alone the endless hours that goes into editing the videos.
2.5t would be amazing!

It changed as I up the boost and tried for more

We have a PNP standalone option for these. ruclips.net/video/c_EF6XlrTNM/видео.html
More mk4 for sure,
What clutch are you running?!?! Southbend stage 3 endurance should hold nicely at those numbers. Intercooler bar sprayer might have done it. I've seen cars making these wheel hp numbers gain 40-60 whp just from spraying CO2 or nitrous on the intercooler.
Not really realistic doing that.
Clutchmaster twin.
@@COMotorsports oh ok. I wasn't even thinking of a multi disc clutch. Nice!
Blow it up blow it up!

i was wondering i have 1.8t engine in my skoda superb mk1 and i was planing on light tuning like 200-250 but the more i watch your vids i wonna go crazy on that engine how much do you recon i can get out of it and approximately how much would it cost to do it thinking prob like 600hp myb hahah
Cost comes down to quality of parts, the parts needed to hit whatever goals you have, and the cost of labor, fabrication or whatever you can't do on your own.
For stock internal 1.8t with more than 500 hp and many runs its very good ❤
If you havent add more hp and booste over the 550 its well be safer and the engine can leave with this power 550 and with lighter weight its well be killer
It tapped out at 598whp but I think it was my fault. We still haven't torn it apart yet.
