Installing the Hex ezCan on my 2022 BMW R1250GS- WITH NO RDC UNIT🤔

- This is my take on installing the Gen 2 Hex EzCan on my new June 2022 R1250GS. There may be other ways!!!!!
Accessories to be added to the circuits at a later date.
Should take you between 30-45 minutes.
I removed the rear seat base plate and grab rail, that takes 5 minutes, but makes install easier.
My BMW has the tyre pressure monitoring system installed and works BUT there is no RDC (tyre pressure control unit) normally found under the rear seat. BMW have now removed the RDC and left a capped plug, labelled RDC.
This is what you use, so, only 1 plug from the hex is used and the other is redundant. This was confirmed to me by tech support from HEX themselves .
Once installed, the Hex unit will flash green, once the bike is switched on this changes to a steady green.

Had it on my Africa Twin so I’ll fit that when I am back from work in a few days . Anakee adventure tyres won’t be staying on either , too noisy.
Having previously installed the ezCAN/Denali on my 2019 GSA by daisy-chaining it to the physical RDC unit I felt a bit cocky fitting it to my 2022 new GS over Christmas. Of course I mistook the SEB lean angle sensor for the RDC unit, being unaware that the RDC has been hidden somewhere else, and connected it up. So, nothing worked and I didn't know why, even though all the circuits checked out OK on the ezCAN software. The green tell-tale light on the exCAN turned red (gulp!). Having then searched on line and found this video, Bingo! Thanks for sharing. The GOOD news is that connecting ezCAN to the SEB lean angle sensor doesn't blow any electronics (phew!) it just trips the electronic fuse - thus the red tell-tale. This is re-set just be disconnecting the power to the ezCAN and the green light comes back on and it all works! Really shows the value of sharing this sort of detailed techy info online. Big thanks once again.

A very, very big thank you for sharing this. I invested in a Bluetooth module (remote control carplay with wheel) and had connected it to the wrong module, thinking it was the RDC box. I thought it was a defect when unpacking the module.

Nice informative video. When I fitted mine I'd removed all the tank panels to run the wires for my horn, aux lights and bike cam so removed the riders seat front mounting and the 4 hex bolts that hold the mount underneath to the frame. This allowed all the wires to run underneath that mount including the power for the hexezecan which was a lot neater.
You save my day, didn't know about that plug under my seat. Thanks you.

That’s ever so much for this just swapped my Exz can to a brand new gs and found the same problem. This has saved my bacon! Has it plugged into the lean angle sensor and the diagnostic was telling me I had no can input !

Good job! I’ve ordered the EZcan for my rt1200 LC. My bike is the ex police version & I can’t find my rdc plug either. Looking for some help if poss? 🤷🏻♂️
Try the hex website they do have videos of non rdc bikes in their support / install section 👍

I will be installing an EZcan on my bike before the season starts next year, so I appreciate the video on how to install it. I also have a 22 model GS, and I did check under the seat, and I do have the RDC unit that you do not have. That made me wonder why we both have a same year model, delivered around the same time, but with and/or without an RDC unit. On one of your first videos with the GS, when you picked it up, you posted a copy I guess of what you ordered with the bike. The RDC is not on that list. Can it be that you really did not order it, and that is why it is not installed? Have you checked on the display if the tire pressure is being monitored? My 2022 GSA has TPMS but it does not have the module under the rear seat. Made me pause during install because I thought I was looking in the wrong place. Found the connection tucked away and used that and all went well.
They moved the tpms into the keyless module mid 2022- and changed the way the sensors communicate- subsequently the later sensors are not compatible with the earlier models- I know because me in a early 2022 swapped wheels with a guy with a 2023
Hi I just took delivery of a 22 BMW R1250GSA Triple Black to replace the 21 model that was written off. The RDS plug with the blank on it had no power to it. BMW said the computer knows there is no unit connected to it so it doesn’t send power to that plug. The only option BMW suggested was to fit a alarm module to the rds circuit so the computer will send power to that circuit. Is this correct or is there another way to get power to the rds plug in your video?
Hi John . I wish I was an electrical engineer , but sadly I’m not . In my case the rds plug clearly has got power going to it as I can , with the hexezican plugged in , power numerous add on electrical items , lights , horn etc . So I am not sure what bmw are talking about when they say there is no power to the rds plug , as clearly there is , well on my 2022 GS there is . What are you planning on connecting to that rds plus ?
Would you recommend this above the Thunderbox?
Yes, if you have the time and skill set to put connectors on the end of the wires, otherwise go with the Thunderbox for simplicity and ease of equipment fitting.

With your bike being brand new, are there any implications to warranty when installing something like this?
None . So long as you don’t cut into the wiring loom all is good . 👍

Enjoy watching your vids, you are costing me a fortune!!! and shortly a divorce!!! i am shorly going to fit the Hex Ex can and the Daneli spotlights i have also purchased a Denali b6 brake light. looking at the b6 connection, it will not fit directly onto a hex cable. Is there a B6 Brake Light Adapter Cable i need to get, rather than cutting into the cable? love the Dogs, I might be sharing a kennel with them if i keep following your purchases!!!!
