  • The shoulder PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) Pattern D1 can help improve strength and mobility in the shoulder after an injury or surgery. Watch more Ask Doctor Jo videos featuring full routines for common injuries and syndromes at www.askdoctorjo...
    To perform the shoulder PNF pattern D1:
    1. Make a fist with your hand and your palm facing you. Put your fist across your chest in front of the opposite shoulder.
    2. Bring your fist down across your body while opening your fist and rotating your hand until your hand is open down by your side with your palm facing behind you. Then reverse coming back up.

      You're welcome! I would start on the lower side of reps with these since there is more involved. Good luck!

    May I know the different between D1 flexion and D1 extension...

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 лет назад +1

      D1 flexion is the one in the video where your fist is closed across your chest, and the extension is when it's open straight out behind you.

      @@AskDoctorJo when performing D1 extension, we want to emphasize pronation right?

    Doc Jo, is it normal for my palm to hurt when doing this exercise?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  8 лет назад +1

      That doesn't really sound normal. What kind of injury do you have?

    • @slurpeexyza17

      I am not sure. Do you think its serious enough to get it checked? I get a tingling pain when I come to the open palm part of the stretch.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  8 лет назад

      I would get it checked out. Sounds like your nerve might be getting pressed somewhere with that movement.
