I bought a 660ti for 200 bucks when the best card you could get was the 780. Ive upgraded since the but that 660ti with a i-7 2700k cpu @ 3.4 ghz and an itel ssd will still run witcher 3 on medium settings.

I used to use a gt 710. Still have it actually. It was a good card back in the day and you can get games like MGSV running at high 30fps on it which is really impressive.

Honestly, as exciting as new and powerful hardware can be, I really have a soft spot for dodgy old hardware that can just barely run modern games.

Finally, something in my price range
1 dollar PC -> Intel Pentium III, SATA-1 WD 40GB Hard disk, socket 755 motherboad with no USB, GT 1 with 64MB DDR VRAM and 50MHz gpu clock, IBM 300W no warranty power supply, cardboard box and a house fan as a case with airflow, 128MB of non-ddr RAM

What a find you've got there, mate. The darn card is even cheaper than the PC's CMOS battery. Amazing that it works well when adequate cooling is provided.
You should attach an RGB fan on that thing for additional FPS.
For once, RGB that _DOES_ increase framerates!

The passive graphics card cooler looks like the type used in a rack mounted mining rig, generally those have unidirectional fans which blow along the length of the heatsink fins from one end of the rack to the other.

Damn. Probably the best value graphics card that has ever been sold if you don't count gifts. An actual working graphics card that can handle light gaming for the same amount of money you'd find on the ground and not care enough to pick up.
I bet next time you will pick it up, after all... even though it doesn't get you a coffee or some chicken nuggets, at least it can buy you a graphics card.
Its kinda awesome that you are actually able to game on a card for that price! and if you get 2 of them you would have more that enough vram and likely get rid of all the microstutter!
To fix the heating issue you could attach a case fan to the heatsink with zip ties for example and connect the fan to your motherboard. On some motherboard software you can even set the fan speed to the gpu temp
That heatsink looks like it's for a normal passively-cooled 1-slot card. In a server case the airflow would be directed along the axis of the card, flowing between the fins to cool the heatsink.
My guess as to what happened:
1. Somebody bought a 750 Ti from China and received a scam card which was actually a 550 Ti.
2. They got a refund from EBay or wherever but were permitted to keep the scam card.
3. They now had a scam card which they had no use for, and so decided to sell it.
4. It's illegal to sell counterfeit products. So they ripped off the scam shroud/cooler and replaced it with a random cooler they had that sort of fit, which in this case was a passive server card's. Then they flashed it with the genuine 550 Ti firmware to make it usable. Now, nothing on the card claims it's anything other than what it is (a damaged and refurbished 550 Ti), so it's legal to sell and usable.
5. You bought it.
It's more likely that this is an ex mining card from a rack mount setup, the heatsink certainly leans towards that explanation

Taking "Budget-Builds" to a whole new level.
Using GPU-Z is a great way to identify your graphics card and monitor its sensors. I used it in particular when setting my custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner.

If I had to use that GPU, I'd get a cheap quiet molex fan and ziptie it to the heatsink.
You can't get 'quiet' molex fans. Molex's high power delivery makes fans run at full speed, always.

@@LatvianVideo want one...? I got a few Socket 478 AGP boards for free and don't need all of them. one is DDR1 but with a Celeron installed, and the rest are SDR but with Pentium 4s installed. Could swap one of the Pentium 4s into the DDR1 board of course. "Like" my comment if you're interested (because of my settings).
@@RWL2012 I gave away a pentium II board an chip with some ram for nothing. I don't need it when Im running a gtx 660ti paired with an i7 cpu and 12gb of ram. I only bought this board because it came with a gtx 660ti and a power supply and care for less than £40. Can't cry at those prices.
I was honestly surprised to find out this is MY OWN graphics card... granted, I've got a slightly better version (more legit, cooler and all) but whew, I really didn't realise how far behind I was... Well I knew it's old, after all it's my old card which I'm using again since my GTX 760 has died, but didn't expect it can be that cheap.

Very helpful. Keep up the content creating! Have a similar gts 450 card, and some games, that I like and you tried as well (such cities skylines, gta 5) run the same with a bit lower settings (mostly shadows, AA, view distance). Bannerlord however in the unplayable single digit regions.
"Budget" (Value) card I would recommend is 1060 Ti.

With my finals I've been missing out on the good vids! You're seriously putting your main PC at risk putting in these cards :D In any case; a 550Ti for 13p is a fantastic deal no matter how you look at it. Even if it really doesn't have anything close to resembling a proper cooling solution. I do wonder how this poor thing ended up in such a state..

Hey hi liked u r video.. Is there any option like universal graphics card fans or cooler so i can use them on my rx570 4gb variant... I have gigabyte and fans are making so much noise and i wants to replace those fans but i dont want same fans from gigabyte.. i never upgraded my MSI660TI, is doing 60fps on most games(med/low settings) 1080p 144hz thru DisplayPort, sometimes i get 70/80fps on low and can keep up, not bad for a old free gpu, i wonder how many more years it has left?

That fan idea make me remember back in the 2000's i had a 3ghz Northwood cpu with a stock intel cooler.It's a 478p cpu.I parked my pc next to this big industrail fans.So off i am to benchmark my pc i think 2003 benchmark was just out.I clocked it from 3ghz to 3.6ghz.It made 1 benchmark and bsod.She was never the same after that.Afterwards max oc i could get was 3.2ghz.Let me tell you oh boy was that pc fast for that 5 minutes 🤣
I still have my old intel northwood celeron 2.4 gigaherz.. although it doesnt display anything, i don't know what is going on with it, apart from the fans spinning and hard disk not being active. I changed the mobo, ram, hard disk, everything. Maybe the cmos battery is dead, i hope i am gonna fix it someday.

I had a card with a burnt-out fan but the heat sink was still there. I zip tied a case fan to it, and powered it from the motherboard. Ran it that way for probably 3 years.
The only thing I could say is "oof". My pc runs Minecraft at 20-30 fps with normal settings and 1080p. Now I know- I really need to upgrade.
