My first camera was the ZV-E10 as the result of too much "Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis"-Video consumption and my first lens was the Tamron 17-70. The Sigma was already available at that time, but the lack of image stabilization was the reason to choose the Tamron! Great video, thank you again!
Another tip: why not set the Metering Mode to Highlights? That way you don't have to play with the EV Comp so much as the camera will always base exposure off the highlights. I never see any zebras when using this method. My setup is generally Meter Mode - Highlights with EV Comp set to +0.3EV to lift the blacks a little. Also have the Tamron 17-70 which is great, just a little soft on the 70mm side when wide open.
I’ve been using this combination as my main kit for a year and half, and it covers me in most situations! Just that it becomes a bit front heavy, but you get used to it quite soon. Very versatile and definitely worth the money! ✅
I just ordered this for my ZV-E10 after using the sony kit lens (only) for nearly 3 years now. Can't wait to try this out. I mostly just shoot talking head video so it's been sufficient but you've inspired me to upgrade to this Tamron 17-70 and start getting some good photos for B-Roll (instead of my iPhone 13 which I've been using). Another great video as always. Love your humor!
This is best equipment review, talk about what you are going to use and then going to the streets showing the settings of the camera, the shooting itself and the final result (the photo) with the settings as label. Congratulations! Excellent content! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
i sold 18-105 and changed to 18-300. I should keep the Sony 18-105 oss because I find it suitable for shooting portrait videos with my girlfriend at the pool and beach.

Yeah the 17-70 is better I think. I got rid of the 18-105 cos f4 is often too slow on APSC I find
I’m having a hard time deciding which lens I should get for mockumentary work, like the office, that you actually use the zoom a lot while filming it

@@eric-generic89 it's a tough one i think, if you can't control light I'd be tempted to go for the 2.8, and use clear-image zoom up to 1.5x to get it to 105 length, you keep the 2.8 light level, but the noise can become larger and you lose a stop of DOF (it becomes deeper) i mostly use full-frame now so on APSC I find F4 quite dark if shooting indoors. Today I was shooting in a convention hall on an A6700, and actually used the Sony 11mm f1.8 all day, but I used clear image zoom to punch in most of the time to 1.5x, and never went below 2.8 as it was quite dark all told. so my taste is for 2.8 lenses.
II got this lens to pair with my a6700 and it works wonderfully. I've noticed that it can be a bit soft wide open at 70mm so I usually stop down to like f4. Its also perfect because my 2nd lens choice is the Sony 70 - 350, which covers me from 25.5mm to 525mm effectively, just need to get the viltrox primes now to complete my kit 😁
I love the way you nail the exposure: saturated urban/ people shots. It is not the technicalities but the attitude toward the joy of photography - The first rule. Respect and consideration for people in the street is The Second Rule you always try to keep in street photography - I'd say. And you know how to do that right, too! Thanks for sharing!
Although it's not as sharp as Sony 16-55 2.8 G, and bokeh is a little busy, it's a pretty versatile all arounder with plenty features and good value for money. So overall very happy with the ownership.
17-70 is a great focal length to have on your camera. I have the sigma version of the 17-70 f2.8 macro. Awesome lens. It's my go-to when I grab my d3100 and will be buying an adapter for whatever body I upgrade to. I noticed the Tamron version does not have macro. I've used the macro many times in the sigma. It's a great walk around kens to always have mounted. Covers 90% of what you will shoot on a day / week out.
Ok. So I ended up getting a BeeStation since I don't have that much digital data yet (holds 4TB), and downloaded all my ZV-E10 shots and videos to it. Since I can leisurely look at these on my BeePhotos app, I'm just now appreciating the things in the shots I wasn't focusing on, and am blown away again by how good the ZV-E10 really is. The clear stillness of a lake (water shots are amazing), sun stars through the overhead tree branches ... beautiful. I use a few different lenses, most of these shots I'm reviewing are with my Sony 18-105 F4. Love my camera.😍
Just in time. I bought Tamron 17-70 f2.8 last month for my ZV-E10 after months of researches (which means watching lots of review video). Main reason I chose Tamron over Sony and Sigma was due to the in lens stabilisation.
Hell yeah, Tamron 17-70 lets'go! I'm a sucker for long telephoto on the streets so I bought their extremely versatile 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3, but thinking about also getting this lens for more light. Great photos Mark, thank you!
actually I got the Tamron 17-28 full frame lens on my ZV-E10 and works great, although miss some zoom but can still clear image zoom. Fun to see your work on the street!
I had 18-50 but I sold it since it has no vr and I had shaky photos with my little doggy zve10. Now I bought the tamron and I am waiting for it!😊. Thanks for one more time. Cheers 🍻
After much deliberation, I have now got the zve10 for my hiking stories from the Rhön is located in Bavaria. With the right lens you can achieve good results.
I’m currently visiting Toronto this weekend and got to walk around the city very much like this today. But with my family, so I didn’t get to take very many photos. Truly enjoyed this city, though!
I really love it when you use Doug for photo, I use my ZV-E10 for pro work, both photo and video and I know that it is not recommendable since it only has 1 card slot and so far I have no corrupted card, I hope that I will not experience a corrupt card until I am able to buy dual sd camera.
Buy a new card every 6 months and you'll never had a problem. I do this even if they work fine, I've never had a problem following this rule in almost 3 years. Good luck
Hello Mark, I just want to say thanks for the vids. They have been very helpful and enjoyable. Question, do you have any suggestions for a lens that’s comparable to the one in this video but for a Sony a7iii? Thanks in advance
Very entertaining video Mark. It'll be great to see you do more POV's too and your sense of humor is awesome haha. Also, this video makes me proud to use the Tamron 17-70 for my Fuji X-T4. Superb lens!! Image quality, along with the range and versatility is fantastic.
I've been gassing for new lenses, but most of the ones I look at fall within my Tamron 17-70's range. Maybe they're faster and smaller, but the 17-70 is so damn versatile. It was the first lens I got with my a6400 and the one I use the most.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis That's sorta where I'm leaning. I have the Sony 55-210. Maybe trade that in and get the Tamron 70-200. Too many fun toys available.
Hi Mark, I have the ZV-E10 + Sigma 10-50 2.8 + Samyang 75 1.8 + Sony 11 1.8 combination. I think most shots can be done and the setup is pretty small. The size was the reason to buy the ZV-E10. I think the Sigma was the right decision for me but sometimes I ask mysef if the Tamron would have been a better choice... I've never been to Toronto, but it's on my bucket list and when I'm there you definitely have to take some photos of me. From now on you can no longer say no to tourists. 😜
Looking forward to that comparison, I am actually deciding which of those two lenses to buy. I also like to record video, so I would appreciate if you also compare that (not only photography). Thanks and keep up the great work 👍
These are some amazing street shots, but what blows these images even further out of the water is your walking commentary :D. So fun to watch and listen - I can't do this entertaining stuff ^^'' I had the Sigma 18-50mm previously and loved it because I gravitate more and more to small lenses. Only reason why I sold it is because of the move to Leica. I know stupid move regarding price / image quality ratio, but the rangefinder manual focus experience I simply enjoy too much. And these lenses are really small on M system. Quick question regarding your editing: Do you have your own presets or do you just do quick edits in LR (or both)? Keep rocking man, can't believe it was not that long ago, when I discovered you between 2k-5k subs :)
How are the fries from that chip stand? These walks are so fun, you bring them to life with your happy commentary. Your photos and reviews are brilliant.
Thanks for showing your city to us. It is a beautiful city. And btw, on the contrary to your culture, In Russia, people becomes happy if we take pictures of them :)
This is exaclty the setup i got as a beginner. In total it became for me less then 1200 euro, but with this lenz you can do so much stuff! Wide enough + vc makes it a good option for some video work, plus at the longer end with 2.8 you can still get some decent bokeh for portraits. Now I'm considering something along sony's 70-350 for animal/girl spying photography to complement this mighty tamron, yahoo!
The Sony 70-350mm is great if you're a bit timid and don't like getting up close. Can make a good street photography lens for taking detail or portrait shots further back, is mega sharp even wide open and has lovely smooth bokeh.
Pedestrians obey signals... we don't have that sign here, since everyone knows it's useless, pedestrians don't obey the signals, they're there to be ignored. At least we don't walk in the middle of the road, everyone has heard the horror stories coming from that. Looks like a great lens to have for the camera. I've got the Sigma 18-50mm on your recommendation and don't regret it. It's a beautiful lens to have, so much better than the stock one that came with the camera. Having the extra 20mm might be nice. Though I'm mostly also taking my Nikon camera with 50-250mm along with it, so I've got plenty of reach already.
I've been trying both for my apsc sony and I had chosen Sigma - Tamron is heavy and bulky. It does not fit into pocket in my backpack. I think stabilisation is something to push boundaries which we can't reach in 90% of our shots. I think lenses above 150mm might require it. So I would call it overhyped :)
Sony zve10 and the 18-105mm AKA Toni4 is the best lenses for this camera. Can't stop telling folks that it is inevitable. Reliable auto focus, rock steady OSS all the way down to 1/10 shutter speed hand held, very usable Zoom range from wide to tight for photo and video. This is the swiss army knife of lense for the ZVE10. I thought the zve10 and a f4 lense at night would be problematic and it's definitely not. Zve10 has features to ensure you get clean video and pictures just need to know which modes to put it in. Hands down I have stopped getting noisy videos and photos at night. I nearly got caught up complaining about the camera till one day I noticed I was limiting what the camera can do. Trust me guys spend time learning the features and what modes to use to befit from the power they have eliminating noise even with a F4 lense at night.
Using the same combination as I could only afford that one (as a student). Cannot be more happier with that purchase ;-) (only gripe is low light but oh well...)
@@deeppatel2727 Shoot in Superior Auto for photos and video at night or very low light situations, ensure Superior Auto Image Extract. is active for photos, High Noise Reduction set to Normal, take off lense compensation at night, Ensure Long Exposure Noise Reduction is on. Long Exposure NR works only at low shutter speeds.
Hello, nice video! What would be a good lens for shooting video with "up close" or macro capabilities? Is there a lens for that?? P.s. I recently took pictures with the zve10 and the kit lens the other day and was impressed with the images, this is a great camera for photos!
Great video Mark ! I purchased this lens about a month back and love it . I am new to photography and learned something new today from your video on using Zebras . Your photos came out amazing , love the dark moody tones . May I know which post editing tool you use ?
Dang, there is more in one square block of your city than the entirety of the city I live in. We don't have tall building and that's just fine. We have a lot of brown dirt. BTW, since so many great lenses are coming out for crop sensor and MFT cameras, do you see that format exploding or staying steady with photographers? If and when the ZV-E10 Mk 2 comes out, what kind of impact do you think it will have. I think it should as the major improvements made from the a6600 (which still have) to the a6700 (which I preordered and now enjoy) should make the ZV-E10 Mk. 2 a must have for the future blockbuster movie makers. (I hate typing on YT, always dropping letters)
Mark, I enjoy your videos and thanks for putting them together. I was wondering, how do you show the zebras when your doing the final setting. Is this a part of the lens, or a setting in the ZV E10?
I got my copy of this lens last month, to use in my sony ZVE-10... I Just loved it, and the zoom range is amazing! Now I'm with the Tamron 17-70 and the sony 70-350 G. These two lenses covers basically everything I need and share the same filters! I also have a the Viltrox 23 f1.4, but, although it produces beautiful images, it lacks the versatility of the zoom. I'm still need to get something a bit wider for astro/landscape, and in the future i wish I have a big telephoto to wildlife and deep asto. Do you have any suggestions?
Same setup as me, apart from I use the a6400! I went with the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 for superwide shots. It is manual, but you rarely need to touch the focus as it's so wide.
@@Brunodsp1 I find sharpness is great. I don't do astrophotography but used it for architectural and it worked well. Super wide and no distortion. Christopher Frost has a good review on it. There's also the NISI 9mm which is similar. They all have heavy vignetting but NISI I think has better flair control.
There’s the Sigma 10-18 f2.8, and the Sony 11 f1.8. Both have been reviewed here. A dedicated full frame camera (even a used, older model) would be better, but if you NEED to stay with the ZVE10, one of these lenses would work. I don’t know which has most image issues (when pixel peeping), but if you don’t pixel peep, or you know how to edit /correct your photos, probably either would work. The Sony, with its f1.8 (much better light gathering) should be better, but not sure if you need the zoom range from the Sigma. If you don’t mind, let me know if either of these sound good, or if you go with either. Again, Mark reviewed both.
Question, I’m starting a RUclips channel. I do woodworking metalworking things like that. So I just purchased the Sony zv-e10 mark II and I just ordered the Tamron 17 to 70 2.8 do you think this will be sufficient to cover a talking head video as well as to cover me woodworking from shots about 10 feet away to up close demonstrating how to use tools?
Hi Mark, I want to get my first camera. Should I go little extra and spend on a6700 or ZVe10 is still a solid choice? Main focus will be videos with occasional photography.
I bought ZV E10 last year because of you and @thefilmalliance to level up my hobby and passion for soccer, youth events, and travel. Along with kit, Sigma 16, and Sigma 56, picked up Sony G Master 85 F1.4 (for $800 Out of Box (E)). Much to learn, but thankful for your content and will continue to push myself with your experiences, wisdom, and direction. Recently pushed to limits with some instructional videos (ZV E10 overheated several times with Sigma 16 in 85degree weather in Florida), as well as rolling shutter for my 1st wedding. Weighing in on stabilization of cameras vs lens. Have been considering these 2 lens for zoom, film, convenience for the ZV E10, but also considering A6700, ZV E1, and FX30 to increase my efficiency and level up with second camera. Inclined to go with A6700 due to value and budget but due my recent experiences with aforementioned, concerned and feel like FX30 makes most sense in Florida weather and filming experiences. Would love your thoughts...advice. Thanks.
Hey Mark, im new here, and im after a new lens, for architecture photography/videography & photos of mountains, sunsest, waterfalls etc.. i want a lens that can do it all without me continuously swapping lens. I take a lot of portrait (vertical) photos because thats what comes out best on instagram stories! I've watched your street photography videos on the Tamron 17-70mm Sigma 30mm Sigma 18-50mm & i genuinely dont know what to get! Theres something interesting me about the Viltrox 75mm lense that ive seen you review (the bokeh is incredible) just wondering if you have any plans to take that out an about and use it like you did the other lenses i mentioned above, or if you could push me in the right direction for a lens, like i said im incredibly new to photography so any advise would be awesome!
How about this for product photography? Using a ZV-e10 to take pictures of hair extensions. Top-down on a white background. Or any other recommendations for this purpose?
How you changed aperture isn't it fixed to 2.8? I've seen text that says Aperture Priority but I don't know what that means so please help because I'm looking to buy same camera and lens.
It’s better for video if you have no image stabilization in the body, but if your camera has IBIS, you might be better off with the sigma because the VC fights the Sony stabilization at times.

Thanks for showing your city to us. It is a beautiful city. And btw, on the contrary to your culture, In Russia, people becomes happy if we take pictures of them :)
Some of our people become happy - others not so much 😂
This is exaclty the setup i got as a beginner.
I always enjoy these.
ZVE10 takes great photos. Great color science.
really does!!
I use same setup. Cheap but takes amazing photos.
This sold me for my zv-e10 for streaming and photography
It’s such a great camera
So I would call it overhyped :)
it’s helpful at times, but most of my lenses have no stabilization so I can obviously live without it 😀
Sony zve10 and the 18-105mm AKA Toni4 is the best lenses for this camera.
It’s a great lens to cover almost everything
Can you please share how are you eliminating noise and how can I
I concur!
Can't believe you missed taking a shot of the guy on the left at 12:19 😂
Lovely video
Nice humour 😂
Awesome photography
Fantastic, Mark!
I was using Lightroom for this edit. But I also use Luminar Neo at times.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you 🙏
Do u use your own presets? They look phenomenal!
Damn i have sony zve10 with kit lens, its my first camera . Iam learning photography ,never knew this camera can take this level of photo's
that's a funny look with the tiny zve10 body
Mark, check the Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD for APS-C. I am curious to see what you think.
certainly an amazing focal range
i have it on a6400, it is heavy, the zoom ring is not smooth, it is suitable for street photography
Man, you really got some skills. Picasso ❤
Thank you 😁
Dang, there is more in one square block of your city than the entirety of the city I live in.
It's an exposure setting on the ZV-E10
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisthanks for the tip!
Hey great vid! Do you use a ND filter when it gets sunny?
Not for photos - unless you want to take a ling exposure
Why do I have the Tamron 17-28mm AND the 28-75mm when I could just have this?
Never mind, I know why - I have a FF…
I own zve10, and tamron rocks...why its good for video too. Only thing lens is too long. Pics r sharp.
love your vid
I would love to have a crop sensor camera + 17-70 set vs a full frame + 24-105G set for a video perspective review
@@pixxelpusher How is the sharpness from this lens? Did you already test it for astrophotography?
Great video.
yesssssss I've been thinking about these lenses!
Hey Mark, can you do a video on how you process your raw photos coming out the Sony ?
Can the settings you use for the ZV-E10 be used for the a6700 with the Sigma 18-50?
Great video, my man. 🍻
yes, I use the a6700 the same way.
Zve10 or a6100? Please answer. My main use is cinematic video and vlogging
Kind of binge watching some of your vids haha. DO you sell or have the luts available you use for this vid. I noticed you had very warm colors.
not yet - but I’m working on it
nice photos. Unfortunately Toronto doesn't have that many colors. The concrete color is very prominent.
Yes, an industrial type city. But it has its own look
Hi Mark, I want to get my first camera. Should I go little extra and spend on a6700 or ZVe10 is still a solid choice? Main focus will be videos with occasional photography.
The ZV-E10 is a really solid choice. I would start with that - I still use mine all the time.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Got it Mark.
I’ll go with ZVE10. Thankyou.
Some people have asked me to take them pictures with that same setup thinking I’m a professional photographer and I’m just a travel/food RUclipsr haha
You’re professional to me!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 🥲 thanks
what a nice video. just wish it was 1 hour long
It almost was - I edited out a lot. Maybe in my next one I’ll see anyone can tolerate me rambling for longer 😂
Thanks.
Thanks
too kind!!
I've watched your street photography videos on the
Tamron 17-70mm
Sigma 30mm
Sigma 18-50mm
& i genuinely dont know what to get!
My dude, hit us with a Tamron 70-180 POV video!! Please? 😎
I'd love to see this on the Sony ZV-E1 with dynamic active stabilization ON. :) Does it work? (how much does it vignette)?
I just like watching you walk around my home city....i miss Toronto... Calgary just has no personality like Toronto does!
I’m sure you can find some in Calgary!! Just take photos of the cowboys 😀
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis cowgirls maybe!
How about this for product photography? Using a ZV-e10 to take pictures of hair extensions. Top-down on a white background. Or any other recommendations for this purpose?
This will work great. You may want to consider the sigma 18-50 because you can do extreme closeups with that lens
How you changed aperture isn't it fixed to 2.8? I've seen text that says Aperture Priority but I don't know what that means so please help because I'm looking to buy same camera and lens.
Wow I was researching these 2 lottery yesterday! How about mainly video? Is the Tamron then best because of the VC? Is it any good?
It’s better for video if you have no image stabilization in the body, but if your camera has IBIS, you might be better off with the sigma because the VC fights the Sony stabilization at times.
is it better than sony 18-105 mm for wedding purposes? (zv e10)
Can we do fashion photography (cloths with model) with this 17-70 f2.8 lens ?
Absolutely
