You actually raised a very good question about the "accessible" battery... Here in Europe starting 2027 all portable devices will have MANDATORY replaceable batteries, and just like you said, this is a device that will be around for another 5/6 years, I can already imagine the headaches for these big companies - smartphones, gaming consoles, etc... It will be hell. By the way, how did it end up with the right controller ribbon? And concluding, this really shows that this device is definitely not user-friendly and I can already see the amount of technicians running through this video just for potential future repairs/mods...
Yeah, I've heard that and it's already forcing some companies to change. I know that's why Apple changed to USB-C, even if they'll never admit to it. This will definitely need a redesign for that because it is not accessible at all. Same will go for the next generation Switch. It will be a bit of a crazy transition for the companies, but hopefully it won't be terrible. (Granted, I live in the US, and I don't even know if most or any of the changes will affect us here)
This device was probably in development for years, the rule only came a few months ago. Sony can easily put a battery door on the back of this device, if it proves successful with an audience beyond scalpers.

Do you even know what you just said? Aside from me not being too smart, and collector part(good for you). 'Disappointment' for me, buying this device and realizing it cant do Bluetooth. I was expecting it before Sony said otherwise. That's just one example. 'Hating something' is usually when you ignore positives, ignoring actual purpose device in question does. I'm guessing you're one of those who thinks N.Switch is a 'console'. At the end of the day, we all have our own opinions. Whatever makes you happy.
Great content, finally managed to see whats running inside it. With some bootloader exploit it would be trivial to make it run stock android or even run linux.
To me, this device is useless since you must have a strong wi-fi connection and a PS5 to use it and of course you must have digital games to access. Playstation is turning into Apple, if you do not have the Playstation products it won't work, like bluetooth headphones. I do not like this business model because it means that they can set the price as high as they want.
The processor appears to be a snapdragon 662 for those who are curious. So not super powerful but also not completely anemic. Appears to be enough for gamecube emulation at least.
Thank you for being honest how terrible this thing is compared to a phone and other devices that work three times better you know I figured this would be awesome because it is a dedicated device that Sony made itself so it should work way better than any other devices but I was completely wrong. It’s the worst out of everything, I have a majorly old phone that barely even runs and it still works better than the PlayStation portal
I own an xbox series x and a 12inch tablet all i have to do is use the xbox app on the tablet to play any game off my console on the tablet using an xbox controller far cheaper than having to pay for that
Of course Sony doesn't want to make it easy to get into the ps portal they'd rather you just buy a new 1 each time after all it is for the Payers hmm or was it players with all the price increases Sony has done I'm sure It's For The Payers
Pre release it was running a stock android, so it's feasible. The portal also has Airplane mode, which is odd as that is for Bluetooth connectivity, meaning it likely has Bluetooth in the WiFi radio that's disabled. Time will tell if someone roots it and runs a custom version of android.
I was considering buying one to dismantle and paint black... ... I think I'll just wait and see if they sell it that way instead. If not I'll buy a white one when the price drops in a year or two
I'm not sure since it's hard to tell exactly from the video, but the battery "stickers" you ripped off seems like they might be battery pull tabs like those typical of that you find on phones So next time maybe try pulling gently and very slowly and carefully on them, also try pull them as flat as possible, as in at 180 degrees relative from the battery not 90 degrees angle That's how those pull tabs works the best, if you have or can make the clearance (but still it can break if you're impatient and pull too hard too fast, so just try carefully and slowly)
We need am actually new Playstation Portable. The Playstation Portal is a controller with a screen. It's useless unless you connect it to the ps5. Sony should release like a PSP 2 or PS Vita 2 or whatever they wanna call it.
They should of at least us DL games onto the device that we can play offline. Imagine just taking your SSD and placing in the Portal just like a game Cartiage.

Plus I already own it and the pro controller so unless this gets a update where u can use it without the ps5 and do other things with then cool but for now now way

The fact that we are this far into 2024 and people still think those stickers are warranty stickers and not tamper stickers blows my mind. Companies can't offer a warranty and void it if a sticker is removed. They can still, however, place stickers on the device to tell if you opened it or not.
I really like the PlayStation Portal device and all, but I might actually hold off probably another year or so before getting one for my PS5 if I ever do decide to finally get one sometime.
Go for a Steam Deck. I have been loving my Steam Deck! It's worth it!
We already know it can only stream games and NOT play them locally. Now add that it cannot be repaired easily, and it can break easily overtime with the battery and hardware design. It's a no-brainer. Don't buy it.
I don't see how Sony didn't make this a console of its own with possibility of remote play. Ik the ps vita flopped but portables are back and doing ok. (Ik it could take a bit to find the correct components to put in it)

It's ironic to say that the Playstation 3 Slim had the armor of a war vehicle and an extremely robust construction.
Prob why it’s tough to get into is because They want you to buy a new one if something goes wrong with it
More and more disappointed with this product, great video ❤
In order to be disappointed at something, you should first care about it. Clearly you don't. It's called hating with a passion. Or just hate.
@@igorsurikov9560 You're talking to a big PlayStation collector, I had a thing for this product. You don't seem very smart, you determined that I wasn't expecting anything from this product because I'm disappointed ? 😂😅
And final nail, asking for proper PSP2 or VITA2, without thinking about how hardware world works, or forgetting about Steam portable PC.
Sony basically selling landfill.
Hello Sony. I hope u r doing well. but you won’t be able to wash yourself away from this shame for a long time
That finish it off. See kids, don't do this at home. lol
i still love my 3 jailbroken PS VITA's
may have to get this on sale. glad to see enough room for a modded section for emu/roms lol.
It’s worth it to me bud
The processor appears to be a snapdragon 662 for those who are curious. So not super powerful but also not completely anemic. Appears to be enough for gamecube emulation at least.
Does this mean that if fully rooted, this can handle emulation of everything up to and not including the GCN/PS2/Xbox generation?
You would have to put a different OS on it first.
This reminds me of working on an iPad/ iPhone.
Apply heat with the battery in? Check
Battery glued down with stretch adhesive? Check
Looks like a new innovative product the likes of which the marketplace has never seen. How did we live without this?
I own an xbox series x and a 12inch tablet all i have to do is use the xbox app on the tablet to play any game off my console on the tablet using an xbox controller far cheaper than having to pay for that
You can do the same thing with Playstation.
@@teamofone1219except we want to see how you able to play lying on bed with your 12 inch tablet for more than 1 hour
This entire device is a disaster and if this novelty device survives or doesn't get discontinued even in a few years, I'm going to be very surprised!
Of course Sony doesn't want to make it easy to get into the ps portal they'd rather you just buy a new 1 each time after all it is for the Payers hmm or was it players with all the price increases Sony has done I'm sure It's For The Payers
Not me watching this whole video with absolutely no intention of buying this 😂😂😂
My portal works significantly better than my note 10+
Those battery adhesive tabs ripped like the iPhone ones 😂
Do you think this could theoretically run ps1 or psp games? Is the hardware even powerful enough?
Nope just a streamer.
Maybe who knows
No that processor is only there to run the lcd screen and send data back to the console. That’s it.
If not I'll buy a white one when the price drops in a year or two
Same I do u soon
Size of a main motherboard NEVER has to do anything with it's raw power and what it designed for. Iphone 15 motherboard is basically size of a finger.
Motherboard size means nothing its the chips that are installed on the board that do the work.
@@ryans413 Absolutely true. Though with fabrication nm processing, giving us smaller and smaller chips.
Nice your first person to open up the PlayStation Portal 😅 Thanks for the info luv your video's bro 😎 🤗
If the cool effects are rendered in real time instead of being a video, this might be moddable
I'm not sure since it's hard to tell exactly from the video, but the battery "stickers" you ripped off seems like they might be battery pull tabs like those typical of that you find on phones
So next time maybe try pulling gently and very slowly and carefully on them, also try pull them as flat as possible, as in at 180 degrees relative from the battery not 90 degrees angle
That's how those pull tabs works the best, if you have or can make the clearance (but still it can break if you're impatient and pull too hard too fast, so just try carefully and slowly)
Battery in my samsung tab S7 Swelled up and popped & Cracked the screen to pieces not a Great idea at all Sony placing the Battery under the Screen
We need am actually new Playstation Portable. The Playstation Portal is a controller with a screen. It's useless unless you connect it to the ps5. Sony should release like a PSP 2 or PS Vita 2 or whatever they wanna call it.
I had a nice chuckle with the "I had better performance with my phone and I controller" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
terrible repairability. Some of worst I've seen.
Glued screen, glued battery (WHY), battery under the screen... dude what a nightmare
They should of at least us DL games onto the device that we can play offline. Imagine just taking your SSD and placing in the Portal just like a game Cartiage.
It looks like the controllers can break easily
Not unless you’re an animal. It’s sturdy. Has good weight and balance . I don’t understand the hate. I played cyberpunk in bed last night for a couple hours and loved it
Knock on wood, my unit has been working great. Outside of that egregious initial firmware update process that brought PTSD flashbacks of PS3 system and game updates.
Sony puts out a lot of garbage, I don't mess with CONSOLES, period. I do enjoy tech!!! , but I *DO NOT* like being limited by the manufacture... AND FORCED to upgrade to play the latest games... and I HATE when they LOCK the O.S. so WE CANNOT enjoy ourselves... I like owning a CUSTOM PC I builD myself with my choice of hardware and software...
Man, this thing is such an absolute piece of crap, imagine how many kids are going to get up Christmas morning with one of these under their tree where their parents seen the thing and thought to themselves “oh, my God, Jimmy would absolutely love a handheld PlayStation,l??!!”
People are going to be pissed -
I’m pissed just comparing it to Vita even today !
I’ve said this many times since the release of this. It’s basically a backbone with out a phone lol. Think my iPhone and backbone might work better. I mean this looks cool. But what good is it really? Doesn’t do much. If you can do more with out actually need a ps5 then maybe but it doesn’t make much sense to me. I rather just use my iPad and controller via Bluetooth and works fine with a bigger and better screen. Plus it actually works. I’ve heard this thing doesn’t work great. To many variables for it to work perfect. My iPad with remote play works perfect for me. Plus I already own it and the pro controller so unless this gets a update where u can use it without the ps5 and do other things with then cool but for now now way
this is literally a long dualsense with a screen in the middle
Get a ps-portal, when its broken. I dont get the mentality "oh, i buy i brandnew, fresh assembled one, never will use it for its intended purpose and rip it apart (joke incoming) for science!" I get it, people want to customize things like that, build in rgp stuff, extra paddles, stronger battery, but come on, do that with an already broken piece of equipment. Its such a waste of time and money ...
Playstation Portal Not Worth It Because You Can Use Remote Play Feature With Your Phone. That's Why This Not Worth It That's What I Think About Of Playstation Portal.Btw I Love Your Content Always ❤
It's sad just seeing this strange thing what comes on the market, I mean to seeing this thing being like this and not being like Steam Deck and anyway the price is similar with the Steam Deck 64GB without a $40 if I am not mistaken, anyway thanks for showing the big strange of this unfortunately thing from Sony :\
I'm Baffled That Sony Wasted So Many Resources On This Garbage When They Could've Just Rebooted The PSP Which Would've Probably Sold Like Hot Cakes!
Great teardown. I guess not PS Portal is not hackable friendly. Questionable design and weird mashup.
This portal is trash I sent it back for a refund it constantly disconnects and reconnects every 30 seconds and it’s not my WiFi I pay for 400 . I sat in the same room as my modem and ps5 still the same issues and I hardwired my ps5 to see will that fix the issue and it didn’t ! I have the newest iPad and when I remote play my ps5 I can play with no lags , reconnect or disconnects and the screen is bigger ! Don’t waste your time nor money it’s garbage
It would be cool to see a jailbroken Playstation Portal running PSVita OS.
I was so ready to love the portal but my experience so far has not been great. Hasn't run smoothly once since I got it.
Probably you, mine works amazing
@@GoldenKnight702 yes it is me
Mine too, I love that thing. It's worked perfectly everywhere I've tried it
I sent mine back for a refund it had nothing but issues it’s not my internet on why it wouldn’t keep a connection because I can remote play my ps5 on my iPad with no issues for hrs!! for $211 when you powered this portal on and did the update and paired your PlayStation it should’ve worked minus all this hacks people are doing to make it functional! my ps5 is hardwired I set in the same room as my modem and ps5 still the same issue so Sony got their garbage portal back .
@@djming101 yeah I've tried everything my modem is literally inches away from my PlayStation. I haven't sent mine back yet I'm still hoping they update it or something.
hm.. So... Why would anyone use ps portal at home? I mean if you have time for playing at home you can play on TV. It is a portable device wich can't be used while moving. :')
If you hook up your PS5 to the Wifi router with a Ethernet cable (make sure its a decent cable, i use a cat 6a) and set your console resolution to 1080p and it will improve your performance
You can play games nativity like Balders Gate 3 and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart nativity offline, but you can also and even do PS on the Go stuff on it as well, at least in the US is starts around $399 for a new one and the OLED upgrade with WiFi6 is in the $500s I beleve. I have been loving my Steam Deck! It's worth it!
We already know it can only stream games and NOT play them locally. Now add that it cannot be repaired easily, and it can break easily overtime with the battery and hardware design. It's a no-brainer. Don't buy it.
It's not a phone, nor is it a slim tablet, and yet THEY STILL GLUED IT? Pure manufactured e-waste straight from the factory.
I don't see how Sony didn't make this a console of its own with possibility of remote play. Ik the ps vita flopped but portables are back and doing ok. (Ik it could take a bit to find the correct components to put in it)
Lol, the correct components.
Well the thing about that is why is anyone surprised? It's only for streaming anyways. I'm sure the parts would be great to use for a portable PlayStation, I mean a real portable PlayStation
The psp joy stick, at least. For the slim. Model had those same pressure contacts, i havent seen any other devices with that until. This psportal
