Hey Jacob I wanted to know if you plan on selling the PS3 from this video and if you are I am interested in buying it because my cousins are big fans of that TMNT reshelled game and it is no longer available to download and there were no disc copies made of it either. Please let me know thank you so much :)
I live near a Mckays & I’ve been to all 5. They started as book stores but over the years they sell anything. Books , Music , DvD’s , Video Games , Collectibles , Guitars , Monitors, Speakers & More. I’ve always had a good experience with them and I’ve been shopping at the one in Chattanooga , Tennessee for over 10 years now. As far as I know they don’t claim to clean the discs or refurbish the consoles so they didn’t lie about it they just aren’t going the extra mile that they should.
Feel like that seems reasonable for a bookstore since you wouldn't expect them to train their employees for such stuff. Does seem a bit scummy though in the regards someone could trade in a broken console for some cash that the store will eventually sale to a customer.
@@TheCommanderTaco They test the games and consoles to make sure they work but as far as I’ve been told by the employees there , no cleaning is done to the discs or consoles. So it just comes as is. Some of the prices I will agree are too high to not even be wiped down with a disinfecting wipe. So the games do work but they might have like a smudge or finger print of them. I think the return policy is 7 days for cash back or 30 days for store credit.
I will say that there practices aren’t great but they only have 5 locations & they aren’t even all owned by the same person. Definitely deserved to be called out for not cleaning the stuff but comparing them to a big corporate company like GameStop really isn’t the way I’d go with it is what I was trying to get at lol. I would like to add that the locations in TN seem to be way better than the ones in NC.
@@jrob0021 I wasn’t trying to be rude or hating in the comments I made. I was just sharing my personal experience. I’m sorry your experience was bad cause this is one of my favorite stores which is why I’m passionate about it is all!
I grew up near the one in Chattanooga, but now I live closer to Nashville. Chattanooga is still wiped from the road trip, but Nashville has decent stock
You do know that if you owned it before it was delisted you can delete and redownload it whenever you feel like it. I'll never get people who hilariously are scared to delete anything as if it disappears forever. Delisting is just to prevent new sales
@lutherheggs451 that is until said servers for the console are pulled. You know there is a McKays closer to you over in Mebane, NC. Right off 85, same exit as the Tanger Outlets. Other side of the interstate. You can return it to the Mckays for store credit.
I’ve been to McKay’s in Chattanooga. I found out the hard way that they test NOTHING. We bought New Super Mario Bros U while we were there visiting friends. We brought it home only to have it say that it was an unknown disc or whatever the message is. It takes us quite a while to bring it back but this was right when the Russia/Ukrane war started to the gas price was janked up. I returned the game and tried to get another one. I brought a couple just in case. The first one had a scratch so I chose not to get that one, but the second one looked Ok. We brought it home and it worked. Finally! That was the third copy I ever bought because the first one was a GameStop that was closing and I got a good deal on a coaster because there were holes in the label. I will go back to McKay’s for books, music, games etc, but I am a little more aware of what I should buy from them. A console is not one of them unless it was a decent looking handheld for a reasonable price (it won’t be so no!)
Bought an n64 in Nashville, and it didn't come with the av cable, and the cartridge slot was so dirty it didn't read games. After getting a cable and cleaning the contacts, it worked pretty well. They sold me a third-party controller as an oem controller, which wasn't cool, but I used road trip credit, so I wasn't too bent about it
@jrob0021 their home consoles aren't terrible, but their handhelds are way overpriced. Their cartridge games are also wayyyyy marked up. Haven't had any issues with disc games that weren't sold as scratched so I can't comment to that. Been going to the Chattanooga and Nashville stores for years
I live right outside of Knoxville and go to Mckays constantly, there broken console section is a steal, they don’t test many things and you can get 360s as cheap as 15 bucks. Even if they don’t work a for parts one for other consoles is still decent.
Buys consoles from bookstore, can't look/examine said consoles as they are sealed in box, all sorts of red flags, gets back to room to find out they don't work, shocked pikachu face, mess around and find out...
I bought 4 360s from McKays, 2 phats and 2 slims. i only tested the slims and 1 of the phats since i dont have a power brick for the other phat. 1 slim works perfectly fine (i'm using it now to play Dead Rising 1), 1 slim works but has a messed up disc drive (I don't think it's completely broken but somehow got knocked out of place), and the phat works but has a stuck disc drive. granted, these were from the untested section. but they're pretty good for what they are and can be even better after we open them up and work on them.
McKay's is usually my last stop on retro hunting days in Nashville. Don't go there looking for deals. Their prices are steep, but I usually end up finding the last item or 2 on my list that I couldn't find anywhere else.
Don't recall ever buying a console from a "bookstore", but these days, many so-called "bookstores" sells much more than books. However, still have my backwards-compatible PS/3 and yes, 4.91 is the latest (just fired mine up and checked). Just checked and all supported discs work (the "black" PS/1, the "blue" and "silver" PS/2, and PS/3). It was originally an 80-gig model, but I've upgraded the drive to 320 gigs, especially since the original 80-gig drive died. I still do have the original drive on hand, though. However, I would not mind finding another controller for it, though. Something that is in better shape than the beat-up one that I currently still have.
Next time you’re in TN check out one of The Great Escape Records & Comics locations, all of their used systems are cleaned and tested before they put them out for sale
@jrob0021 their games seem to be a mixed bag, but I've never had a terrible experience with them. Sucks that there aren't many good retro game stores in the Nashville area, pretty much makes McKays all we got
I abaolutely adore McKays. They are not a repair shop and don't claim to be, but if you go in looking for specific things and walk away if you don't find them, it is one of my favorite places on Earth.
I hadnt seen retailers show me the game disc since before Electronics Boutique was bought out by GameStop. They show you the disc to ensure the disc that you are purchasing is in good shape. After Gamestop bought out EB games, I've had issues with games being unreadable. The one time I had a disc that was sold to me that had cigarette burns all over it as it was used as a resting surface for the previous owners habits. I got the return after a little bit of arguing with the gamestop employee and manager. I dont even smoke. ffs As for the DVD drive on the PS3. The mechanisms for the dvd drives easily get dirty over time and will have issues with taking in and ejecting discs. Dirty drives get even worse as it sits and doesnt get used. People often throw shade at the PS3 Super slim. Yes the sliding door mechanism isnt the best but at least the super slim doesnt face the dirty drive mechanism issue which can be a pain to clean sometimes.
I have a couple Ed McKays (their original name) near me and while I’ve never tried a console from them I’ve bought like 20 PS3 games over the last couple years because they often have some solid games and gems for DIRT CHEAP compared to pricecharting. That’s the only draw in my eyes honestly.
With Mckay's it's a very buyer beware situation they are basically like a giant pawn shop, they take in so much stuff they have a system like five guys when selling stuff to them, it's basically take a number and wait.
Early 2006 i got a used PS2 from game stop that was caked in dust and cig smell. Took it back for a refurbished one that lasted. Also do miss the Hastings store.
My dad, brother and I love going to McKay's in Knoxville, since its a 30 minute drive. I usually go there to buy their AS-IS consoles to see if I can fix them, actually found a Xbox 360 xenon motherboard console which had the NXE dashboard. Sold the Xbox 360 almost a year ago, kind of regret it.
I bought Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast for the Sega Genesis and a Sonic 1 manual their McKays (the one in Nashville)is a good bookstore and the copy of 3D Blast has a sticker from Movie Gallery
Shout-out to the UK Music Magpie. Had quite a few good consoles off them and the only problem I've had was a Dualshock 4 with stick drift. PS4 controllers are like £15 for a genuine new one, and I've got a third party one that has USB C connections, so it was trivial to replace that one.
Turtles in time was delisted pretty early in the 2010's. It didnt had any physical release, and someone could be looking at a way to play this game tbh. TMNT Turtles in time on SNES is a big banger.
Its literally the only game store that exists practically. I wouldn't expect it to have anything to do with being a "sign of quality" BUT I also wouldn't go to a book store expecting, clean, refurbished used consoles. A book store does not care about collecting or collectors or really much beyond someone wants to get rid of something and is too lazy or doesn't feel like spending the time to get rid of it themselves. Much like a pawn shop, they're not there to give you market value or what you think its worth, they're taking something someone is too lazy to sell themselves if they wanted more money
I love going to Mckay's cause it's the only place close to where I'm at that sells physical PC games and CDs but even I will be real here, their prices have gotten bad to the point where I barely go now. Most expensive thing I bought from there was a copy of Majora's Mask and that was cause it was the only store that had it at the time.
Just bought A PS3 slim to play the InFamous game series, bought an InFamous Series collection, bought a charging cable for the controller in the PS3 Slim bundle, I bought all of this early in the mourning on ebay, the InFamous series collection is already shipped. one done maybe i'll get into other PS3 exclusives but i'll just install them instead of getting a disc. I'll also be Jailbreaking it if it isn't already to get more advantages. I would've gone for a Super Slim but I read that their not so great when jailbroken. but at east the Slim display 1080p and not 1080pi (edit: I'll possibly even have it to be my go to Blu-ray and DVD player since I have yet to find again the remote to my basic Samsung Blu-ray player)
Super Slims can't be jailbroken with CFW at all, they can only use PS3HEN. SOME Slims can be jailbroken with CFW, but not all. Personally I have a phat due to it being the one that can have CFW no matter the model number. It doesn't have PS2 compatibility at all, but CFW can fix that too. I put a 500GB SSD in it.

I think it's a pretty awful business decision really for them to not test consoles etc.. Can imagine people will intentionally sell faulty consoles etc in order to get cash for them and then the sucker who buys them has to go to through the trouble of returning it.
I love Mckays...best thing about them....awesome return policy. Its not a bookstore by the way. Yeah, they sell books, but they are a buy/sell/trade store.
Mckays have alway sold games music and books for years. they had system for people to check to see if the game work. and they would let you look at the cd before you buy it if you want it or not. that why they flash it to you when he scan it to see if you like how the cd was looking before you bought it. but they just started selling system within the past years or so.
It's nice they show you the condition of the disc, but the guy at the counter just flashed the disc at me with no explanation or anything lol. I just stared at him for a few seconds until I realized he wanted me to approve of the condition 😂
It was a really cool store when we were inside. It was jam packed at like 2pm on a Monday. Just sucks that their video game stuff is getting sold in this shape lol. Would actually be a great place to pick up video games/consoles if they were in good shape. Their prices weren't too bad
the guy showing you the disk it for if the disk are messed up to hell you can see it i go to half price book store to get movies and games and they do that so you now how it looks so if you still what to buy it or not but i would say half price books is a good one if your ever near one
Most gamestops from my area quit selling DS/3DS games, and yet they still sell Star Wars. Anime, and comic book crap instead of retro games. I’ll start supporting other second hand stores instead of gamestop 😡😡
Maybe the guy scanning all your stuff watches your videos and figured he should show you the condition of the disc at the store so you could say "no thanks" if it was very scratched up, or straight up cracked
Anyone else ever found consoles at a bookstore? Lol
Can I give you my Xbox 360 because I don't want it.

Much like a pawn shop, they're not there to give you market value or what you think its worth, they're taking something someone is too lazy to sell themselves if they wanted more money
my laptop would fry that baseus adapter as it requires 330 watts of power which is 110 watts more than that adapter is rated for
Bet that that was the librarians sons Xbox 360 and PS3 😂.
How do you order from them? They have a website but there is no way to order.
I have not, and now certainly would not, buy from this establishment lol.
The exchange is way worse
In Indianapolis?
@@TravelsByTransit Erie
Got them in Texas too. I agree 🤣 ironically it’s like 2 blocks from a GameStop. Same street just down the road opposite side 🤣
@@bannankev yeah lol I got one in pa and it sucks
@@TravelsByTransit you been to the the one on Washington street? East side?
9:28 that game is 🔥
I love going to Mckay's cause it's the only place close to where I'm at that sells physical PC games and CDs but even I will be real here, their prices have gotten bad to the point where I barely go now. Most expensive thing I bought from there was a copy of Majora's Mask and that was cause it was the only store that had it at the time.
Lmao the title and thumbnail are legendary 😂😂❤❤
Just bought A PS3 slim to play the InFamous game series, bought an InFamous Series collection, bought a charging cable for the controller in the PS3 Slim bundle, I bought all of this early in the mourning on ebay, the InFamous series collection is already shipped. one done maybe i'll get into other PS3 exclusives but i'll just install them instead of getting a disc. I'll also be Jailbreaking it if it isn't already to get more advantages. I would've gone for a Super Slim but I read that their not so great when jailbroken. but at east the Slim display 1080p and not 1080pi
(edit: I'll possibly even have it to be my go to Blu-ray and DVD player since I have yet to find again the remote to my basic Samsung Blu-ray player)
@@SuperNerdAdamsGarage I bought a Slim NOT a super slim
@@cydragon2.099 I misread it, my bad
@@SuperNerdAdamsGarage Easily Forgiven, since Jesus/Yeshua would always want all of us to forgive each other and move on. all you do for the first step is to pray for forgiveness of Sins to God and as well for Jesus to be be saving your soul and after that get baptized not only physically but also spiritually by asking Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Ghosts Fire. just spreading the word of God wherever in my Walk in Christ. @@SuperNerdAdamsGaragegot 2 CECHE01 models. Both with CFW/Cobra 4.91 mods. I enjoy downloading games with the PKGi mod but I wish they’d update the list of games.
That ps3 gives me 2nd and Charles vibes
It's Just Cause as in fighting for a good cause, not just cause as in just because. I cant believe I have to tell you this.
Yeah, they sell books, but they are a buy/sell/trade store.
that suxs, your ps3 is sold already
I said the same thing
Mckays have alway sold games music and books for years. they had system for people to check to see if the game work. and they would let you look at the cd before you buy it if you want it or not. that why they flash it to you when he scan it to see if you like how the cd was looking before you bought it. but they just started selling system within the past years or so.
It's nice they show you the condition of the disc, but the guy at the counter just flashed the disc at me with no explanation or anything lol. I just stared at him for a few seconds until I realized he wanted me to approve of the condition 😂
Lol this is my McKay’s
McKay's has a good selection of books, music and other stuff. While the electronics are hit or miss it's a great store.
It was a really cool store when we were inside. It was jam packed at like 2pm on a Monday. Just sucks that their video game stuff is getting sold in this shape lol. Would actually be a great place to pick up video games/consoles if they were in good shape. Their prices weren't too bad
@@jrob0021 oh definitely. Their prices are decent on other stuff are decent. Which location you go to? The West Knoxville location?
the guy showing you the disk it for if the disk are messed up to hell you can see it i go to half price book store to get movies and games and they do that so you now how it looks so if you still what to buy it or not but i would say half price books is a good one if your ever near one
Half price books is perfect. Waiting till mine has a gameboy.
Look at half price books they sell games consoles etc they ship all over the mainland usa
It's possible, some people however understand that scratched up discs are not wanted.
I know the McKay’s store! I’ve been there before!
Did they have to price it at 191.95? That was random 🤣 😂
I would love to see your official price on that PS3.
The dust, dirt and grime is a feature that is included in the console. Cleaning it will ruin it and depreciate the value.😮
I love that store but I'm going for books and records
we love you jacob ❤❤❤
MX Vs. ATV Unleashed is an amazing game ❤🔥
Classic Landon Donovan Shirt … USMNT I Believe
who the hell would wannabe a gamestop?
Try movie trading company next
Doesn't Half Price Books also sell consoles?
Baseus sponsor pretty cooool
You looked pretty chilled today or you were Stoned As F 😂
