I hope it doesn't flop and that they don't cater to just the southern states around texas and treat the rest like doodoo and give us the low end fodder games
To be honest, I was expecting the entire store to be retro. Not just a small corner. Also, I've only been to two in CA so take my opinion with a grain of salt lol!
Unfortunately this isn't a review of GameStop Retro stores...just GameStop 1.5 stores... being a former employee, 1.5 stores are given more floor space and inventory, focusing more on retro. Been that way LONG before the Retro stores were introduced. All GameStop stores have a retro selection behind the desk fyi
This was the first somewhat positive video on gamestop retro. Glad you guys went in with an open mind instead of immediately hating on it like other content creators. I've been striking gold since they brought it back a year ago
@JRPGLife it's ok if you or anyone has an issue with them I just enjoyed your approach to it. I've found xenogears, def jam ffny, dbz tenkaichi 3, some Sega Saturn stuff along with blades of time ps3 and dozens more. Prices have gone up but it's still worth popping in. Again thanks for the balanced video of pros and cons and not just rage baiting for views
My closest Gamestop is not marked as a retro location, but they definitely put all their retro games out on the floor finally. So much better than asking for those list!
People going after GameStop for pricing above price charting is silly, most retro stores do the exact same thing or even worse. Price charting seems to always be on the low end and does not take condition into account. The fact that they even have games below price charting is great, makes it for fun game hunting. In my opinion just added another option for me to check out and find a deal.
Game stop should of never stopped selling retro games when they did my local mom and pop shop became way more popular and games stops basically became toy stores im so glad there stocking retro games again in store
I have never seen your channel before but was intrigued to see what the heck a retro gamestop was, and believe me my jaw hit the floor pretty hard when the first one you showed was the gamestop off Broadway in Tucson I grew up going to all the time. Super unexpected seeing it randomly show up on RUclips so ty for that, I’m gonna hit it up when I go back home for Thanksgiving!!
Right next to the Park Place mall! What a throwback. I moved years ago but I recognize that plaza anywhere. Walked by it all the time on my way to Rincon.
I absolutely love GameStop retro (my GameStop is a semi retro store meaning they carry retro but aren’t a dedicated retro store) I recently found a copy of gravity rush remasters for 50$ (20$ under market)
Didnt grow up with Game Stop being my go-to game store so when I did started going there for used games, I was instantly disappointed with how much inventory was in poor condition.

I visited 2 Gamestops near me and the selection for the retro one and non retro one were basically the exact same. Around 20 wii, ps3, ps2 and xbox 360 games all in total and nothing else
I’m at the Silent Hill part of the video. You mentioned SH2 Dan, are you both excited for the remake? You two are lush. I look forward to the next episode 🩷

My local gamestop had a large stack of complete in box snes games like knights of round and shadow run. Also complete ps1 rpgs like xenogears and tactics orge. They were behind the counter and not for sale yet.
I checked out my GameStop near me - it’s marked as a retro location and is much closer to me than any local retro game stores - and I found some cool stuff that I was looking for online but didn’t want to pay shipping for

I'm going to check these Gamestop Retro locations out. However, my concern is that it's a lot of crappy condition games which I definitely won't be buying as I collect only quality. They should shoot for complete in box good condition games. I'll pay a premium for those
You two are so wholesome I’m getting my girl slowly into 3DS stuff and she’s just loving ACNL right now definitely gonna go look for more stuff for her and my newly acquired GameCube
I have two retro ones near me. The clerk there told me trade ins have stayed the same but now all the trade in's are shipped and consolidated at these retro stores.
Former GameStop manager I ran four different stores and we always had retros for ps3 Xbox 360 ds 3ds Wii and Wii U so it’s weird because GameStop can literally make a whole store just for retros but they make a small area for it
You two finding an almost perfect condition copy of Silent Hill is absolutely amazing! Kinda gives me hope of one day being able to get my own copy to play on my PS3 without paying an even more absurd amount of money.
You know I love all the N64 love in there! As someone who doesn't have any other game stores within 25 miles, I'm happy to see GameStop being a REAL game store again. I need to check the 3 in my area to see what they have
Years ago i bought Silent hill for $60+, missing the manual and front case, but had rear case and artwork. Also was the Greatest Hits version. Approximately 6 months later while visiting Goodwill I found a minty black label version along with few cheap titles among cds! Paid $1.99 for it!
My local GameStop like the day after Retro was announced had an N64 in stock for $70, had enough rewards points to drop it to $64 and I couldn’t be happier. My childhood dream console is finally mine!! Even though i’m 20 and all my friends hyped up the Wii/GameCube I always wanted an N64 to play the Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask and now I can
Super Mario bros wii IS a Bangeeeeerr Also I’m very happy for you guys getting that silent hill but once you showed it, I was like.. or lord please let me get there first 🤣
Great video guys! Sadly my only Gamestop nearby that's been open prob well over a decade now is not doing this. Bums me out so much because a lot of the shoppers in there are older too. But it's nice to see you found some stuff. Surprised you didn't grab Warioland Shake It or Godzilla Unleashed. Anyways hoping this becomes a bigger thing with Gamestop but who knows

My closest "Retro" GameStop had a rack of X360 and Wii sports titles and some 360 consoles that it looks like they dragged out of the back room. I'll try another one in another month or so when they have had time to get stuff from a warehouse.
UPDATE 9/15!!! ALL non retro300 stores are sending ALL retro items to their nearest expansion stores BY SEPT 25TH!! They have two in my area. Both are like a 30 minute drive each way. My local GameStop around the block always has pretty good retro stuff so I don’t really feel a need to check them out. Recently got Pokemon colosseum and twilight princess at mine. Have seen n64, snes, and even a nes game the other day. Idk why they didn’t make it a retro GameStop lol.
So far from what I've seen from you two amazing hoomanz, I've come to a conclusion with some of the prices and the inventory or the lack there of. Many of the game prices are artificially inflated by GameStop not supplying adequate copies of certain hard to find games and of course their greed. That copy of Metroid: Fusion you noticed was a fake. Good eye. But I bet that game was not sent back to HQ. Some poor kid probably purchased that game by the same dude that you and your wife were talking to. Keep up the great work, guys.
@@ToothlessNerd There's definitely some titles that are overpriced and some that are great or fair. I think most pricing is based on the current market, which has drastically inflated in the last few years. Have yet to find anyone thrilled about that lol. The staff are all given the same training on identifying fakes across the platforms, but not every store has the luxury of having a full team of ppl who really care about games. Have def seen a couple GBA games slip through before. And reprint cover art, but they're more focused on the game itself.
@@sunshinem.7741 I'll agree with you somewhat. But if GameStop were focused on games, then they would train everyone properly. Or at least have have a sort of "cheat sheet" to help the employees identify such details. The stores also don't even open the games when they're traded in. These practices are kind of predatory to employees and customers alike to be honest. You say that stores don't have the "luxury" of training employees in catching the fakes. I say "luxury" is not the word to use. It implies entitlement. The training should be a standardized, if not, mandatory. If not all GameStops train employees the right way, that means it's left to the customer to identify it within the store, but not every customer can identify fake game themselves. So, who is at fault if no one in that transaction can tell if it is fake? I say GameStop is to blame. But they don't really care as long as they make a sale.
Interesting concept this is. Before there was gamestop from where I'm from, it was funcoland and electronics boutique. It will never come close to that time but it's cool to see an alternative to getting retro video games. It's seems some good deals are out there, just need to dig through. ☝️🙌💪
0:51, you put Final Fantasy III on the screen, but the cartridge is Final Fantasy II. $50 for Final Fantasy II is a little bit high, but not by much. Worth the $5ish markup in my opinion to see the cartridge in detail before buying as opposed to buying blind on eBay or elsewhere online. But no real discount there at all.
Anything that helps bring new people to the retro gaming scene is a good thing. That being said, I always prefer to support small mom and pop shops and hoping it doesn't hurt those. HONK!
I found 4 CIB GameCube games at my local Retro just last week. Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Heroes, Star Fox Adventures and Need For Speed Underground 2. ...you won't guess which one of them I *didn't* buy.
Xenoblade being overpriced isn't surprising since Gamestop secretly made new batches of the game and flooded stores with them for $80 and marketed them as "pre-owned".
My favorite Arizona gamestop is on Baseline and Country Club, South of Bookmans. They have an absurd amount of switch games and playstation 4 and 5. Ive never asked about their retro stuff...Im curious now. Your videos are awesome.
I still remember when i asked a employee if they still sold ps2 games. He laughed and said ,NOOOOOO-AH. that was in 2014, i know its been 10 year's, buts omg the irony
Honestly, id be ok with paying a little premium just due to the fact that i'd be buying it from a already established company and not somewhere online where i cant guarantee if it'll come damaged or not
What app do you use to check your prices? Just ebay or is there a specific app you are using to keep up with the volatile prices of retro games? Thanks and love the vids!
Shrek and shrek 2 backwards compatible would be amazing and same thing that goes with the Simpsons road rage and the Simpsons hit and run and I heard that the Simpsons road rage in the beta version there are 6 maps all together including springfield mountain too.

Worth the $5ish markup in my opinion to see the cartridge in detail before buying as opposed to buying blind on eBay or elsewhere online. But no real discount there at all.
Yep, I splashed up the wrong pricecharting image accidentally 😅
Anything that helps bring new people to the retro gaming scene is a good thing. That being said, I always prefer to support small mom and pop shops and hoping it doesn't hurt those. HONK!
Yes! Another video.
Bro said he’s on a loot hunt sounds fun
I enjoy this video!
I wish my local gamestops got retro!
I had no idea you had a cat! My eye on breeds isn't great, but is it a balinese? That's literally what we rescued this year.
Setzer is a ragdoll breed 😀
We also have two domestic short-haired kittens that we picked up a few months ago
I need that silent hill lol
MJR is going to be BOILING...When he gets wind of these gamestop retro stores
My GameStop retro had a limited amount of games but the prices weren’t too bad, can’t complain
7:20 that godzilla unleased is kinda rare in the netherlands.
My favorite Arizona gamestop is on Baseline and Country Club, South of Bookmans. They have an absurd amount of switch games and playstation 4 and 5. Ive never asked about their retro stuff...Im curious now. Your videos are awesome.
Thanks so much 😀
I didnt know Kid Rock was a retro gamer like that
😅
Interesting that the PHX metro ones are by you guys ... North valley gets no love 😂
I still remember when i asked a employee if they still sold ps2 games.
He laughed and said ,NOOOOOO-AH.
that was in 2014, i know its been 10 year's, buts omg the irony
I would have liked the video anyway, but the cute kitty cinched it :)
Haha thanks so much 😅
Honestly, id be ok with paying a little premium just due to the fact that i'd be buying it from a already established company and not somewhere online where i cant guarantee if it'll come damaged or not
I have found forza horizon 1, mariokart ds, gran truismo 2, and forza Motorsport 4 at a retro GameStop for like 35 ish dollars which is crazy
Doing gods work
My childhood is retro…😢
the stickers on the carts drives me NUTS
GameStop loves putting those stickers till this day , it hurt me seeing Silent hill with it
Yes I live near retro stores
What app do you keep track of the games you have and don’t have for your collection
CLZ 🙂
holy crap mario and lugi superstar saga was the first gameboy advanced game I played on the sp my friend let me borrow. good times
What app do you use to check your prices? Just ebay or is there a specific app you are using to keep up with the volatile prices of retro games? Thanks and love the vids!
Currently, we use Goodiez for market value checks. It's free as well 🙂
Shrek and shrek 2 backwards compatible would be amazing and same thing that goes with the Simpsons road rage and the Simpsons hit and run and I heard that the Simpsons road rage in the beta version there are 6 maps all together including springfield mountain too.
Missed a Silent Hill Downpour in the xbox 360 section. Maybe it was priced low. 01:59 goes for like 50-60 bucks.
We already own it so it wasn't under our radar, but it would have been neat to see how much it was going for 😀
@@JRPGLife We may never know!
