@@vncnthgy You can but a lot of my issues with Windows 11 are fundamental ones. Like the new right click menu is just awful, file explorer literally looks like a web browser now, task manager is way more confusing than before etc. I appreciate that the design language is at least more unified than Windows 10 but a lot of the redesigned apps are way harder to navigate than the Win 10 ones. I have to use Windows 11 on another device and I literally had to install open shell and explorer patcher to get the OS to a usable state. In other words the reason I don't want to use Windows 11 is because it feels like I'm constantly wrestling with the OS to get it to work the way I want, Windows 10 isn't perfect but it at least works decently enough without too many modifications.

The OS would already be around 10 years old at the time of the end of life date we currently have but windows 10 has gone through a lot of changes since 2015 unlike older windows operating systems. Highly suspicious. This reminds me of when Microsoft back ported some of their telemetry gathering to Windows 7 towards the end of its lifespan. We had to carefully watch KB numbers and make sure we were not installing telemetry updates, or go back and uninstall them after the fact. Now Microsoft won't let us install or remove individual updates anymore.
This a definite red flag for my work place and I am very glad I don't run Windows at home.
Side note: Funny you mentioning Adobe after all the hot water Adobe's been in recently. Almost like saying, "Linux is Adobe free if you want to move on from Adobe and other proprietary software!"

  • @DaystromDataConcepts

These days, I can't see Microsoft doing anything unless it benefits them. And so, maybe one reason they're doing this is that they are well aware of how much larger the Windows 10 user base is compared to that of Windows 11 and simply want more guinea pigs to test their software for them.
Or, maybe due to the numerous bad press issues with Windows 11 with respect Microsoft breaking stuff on updates to that OS, they want to shift the buggy, more potentially dangerous "feature" development over to Windows 10 as it's largely dead in 15 months.
Either way, I simply cannot see Microsoft doing anything to benefit their Windows 10 user base.

Hi Brian, thanks for the video. Yes, it's very strange that Microsoft is reopening feature updates for Windows 10 when there's so little time left for Windows 10 mainstream support, so we'll see what this means. I think Microsoft should offer one more year for free, and then you have to pay for the remaining two years of the three-year extended support. But sooner or later, you have to upgrade to a new version if you want to run a Windows OS. I'm also now reading that the upcoming Wi-Fi 7 standard seems to require Windows 11 24H2. But certainly, there are many regular users out there who use Windows 10, and I am one of them. I have a computer with Windows 10 that does not have support for Windows 11, and I have another computer that I run Windows 11 on, and that computer has full support for Windows 11. So we'll see what will happen to Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, but yes, software and hardware will require upgrading to a new Windows version eventually. Take care, Brian, and have a nice day in the UK.

Considering the enshitification of Windows with every feature update, is it even worth it? Just let the people who do it legit do it, and watch their videos and read their articles and blogs about it if you don't want to do it "the Microsoft way". The tech community is huge with a lot of people doing that, so get some popcorn and wait for them blow up over Microsoft's next update (downgrade). We get to rage, they get their views, and all at Microsoft's expense (and they don't really care or they would be listening to the tech community). All while you're not running software with a lot of untested bugs and stuff.

Hmm Brian mate I am a tad confused as to why Microsoft would do something like this it seems to me at least not a logical thing to do seeing that they are ending Windows 10 in 2025. I have one desktop still with 10 Pro as a backup for any reason my main desktop (running 11 Pro on unsupported hardware) is playing up. Now it lasting until 2032 well frankly my old Sandy Bridge would certainly be creaking at the seams. I actually have a drive in the Sandy Bridge loaded with Linux Mint Cinnamon on it and although I don't use it very often it is quite usable - my only concern is security with that unless ESET for example do a software for that OS.

I have a suspicion that one motivation might be to install similar "upgrade Windows 10 to 11" agents to what they infamously did with Windows 7 -> 10. At the moment they are relatively limited in the extent to which they can try to nag and trick users into doing the upgrade. I also wouldn't put it past them to try and use feature updates to degrade Windows 10, or at least add more of the bloat that puts people off Win11.

Gamers could have to update to W11 if the game makers drop support for W10. This could see some users that only want a PC for surfing the net jump to Linux or keep W10 long after Microscam stop updating W10 taking a risk on the PC not being hacked. If Microscam also stop updating their AV for W10 then people who still want W10 will get a free AV like AVG on their system.

It would not surprise me that it means they are going to *turn 10 into the same s.h.y.t.e. like 11.* Features no one asked for and no one wanted. Moving options, setting and things around for no reason. I think the term is *"enshittification"* (common practice these days by corporations). More AI rubbish into 10 and discontinue some programs/apps and force on new apps that requires being online and an account to use. They already did that to the old video editor. Just removed it and now we have to d/l the online version requiring an account to use (which I refuse). In any case I'm looking into *Linux Mint with Cinnamon.* I'm not going to throw away two perfectly working motherboards and cpu's (3 if I include my sons). Nor have I any interest in paying MS more, since that means they will be able tie my keys to me via the payment for extended support (unless there will be some non online cash payment option for extended support, which seems very unlikely) and then I might as well get an MS acct for them to track me, which I don't want at all. It's time to try to retake my privacy and freedom. It's way overdue. I was considering Linux after 7 as well (before moving to 10), but at that time I gamed more and Linux did not seem like a reliable option. Now I rarely game, so gaming is not so important to me anymore for my decisions of chosing an O/S.

There could be nothing more satisfying than to take delivery of a brand new Windows 11 PC and the first command you type is "erase boot drive".
And why would I want to "upgrade" to Windows 11 anyway? What more could it give me than I don't already have in Windows 10? You can see from the stats you show in the video that despite Windows 11 having been introduced 3 years ago, the take-up has been abysmal with less than 30% installations! Contrast that with the 67% figure for Windows 10 and I know where I'm going to put my money.

It also makes it harder for folks entering the work force to adapt to things. just because younger generations grow up with tech does not mean they know how to utilize and troubleshoot it.

They are all over the place atm, honestly development of new features should have ended with Windows 10 22H2 with no Windows 11 at the first place.
The only reason they are doing this is that some people will start using Windows 10 again since all the Windows 11 drama. And once October 2025 hits some will be desperately buy extended support for Windows 10. The plan is to squize more money out of their loyal users. As for me im closer and closer of fully switching to Linux. On my main laptop i already run Fedora 40, Linux Mint on my older systems. As for main PC its only a matter of time before i let Win 11 go for good.
