- Windows 10 Users Need To Change This Setting NOW!
Microsoft have just confirmed that they are restarting feature updates for Windows 10. This can only be a bad thing for Windows 10 users and could be forced into updating to a version of Windows 10 with more bloat. To avoid this, disable feature updates and turn off automatic updates.

Windows 10 Home User? Use This Method ruclips.net/video/jFtCF8ebue4/видео.html
Perfect for a dedicated older computer of mine that will remain at Win10 from now on.
I spend more time trying to wrestle Windows update's into submission than anything else I do on my Windows 10 PC now that I have migrated to Linux. My Windows PC is primarily a gaming console now.. Thanks for the video.
I use a firewall (Windows Firewall Control) to lock down my entire system except for the basic services and programs that need access. No more forced updates or interference from Windows.
Just use a aoolocker and Group polcies to control the settings. the problem with Linux is that most windows apps dont work with it + if you intend to have a job behind a desk, linux will not do it.
I limited my Updates to 22H2 long ago when you first suggested it. It's amazing how often that is saving my butt! Thanks.
You're welcome
same here. thx britec once more.
I'd say it's an expected move from their side. Win10 is popular, so it's a good target )
I agree
Yep, done it already, but this video just reminded me of one pc not set yet... Going to install GPEDIT tomorrow morning.
Fffff This is the new world! 👎
Perhaps MS are hoping to tantalise people with Copilot and Recall. They probably won't work well on Win10 but perhaps MS are hoping that they can say, "You think this is interesting? You should try it on a new machine with Win11."
@@dingokidneys "Try it on a new machine?" Exactly my point made earlier. It's all about - - - - - - MONEY!
Upgrade to windows pro to have access to group policy total worth it compared to have use registry edits.
I got tired of all the Microsoft shenanigans. Recall was the last straw for me. I switched to Linux a few days ago. Couldn't be happier.
Hope it works out
What version of Linux did you choose - and or recommend
@@HauntedBranch Zorin 17.1. It has start menu just like windows xp. Which I like. There's a few different layouts you can chose from. Installs Nvidia drivers for you.
Although i have used Windows Client and Windows Server for many years, i have finally waved a goodbye to Microsoft and switched to Linux (Mint). In my opinion, Linux (Mint) is best for those who want an easy way into Linux's eco system. Its Software Center has tons of well known apps that some may have used on Windows but can also be used on Linux (Mint) or ZorinOS for that matter. I had to decide whether to use macOS or Linux, since macOS is restricted in-terms of well known apps, i decided to go for Linux (Mint) and treat is as if it was macOS albeit with, much more application support and possibly other things as-well.

Microsoft just this morning forced "new outlook mail" on my laptop and I cannot go back to "mail" 😢. The new outlook cannot be used ofline. 😢😢.
That's not good
"New" Outlook is hot garbage. I was curious about it until it mentioned needing cloud to function properly. You'll be better off with Thunderbird.
It's a pain but switch to 3rd party email like Thunderbird from Mozzila. Did that back in Win 7 days and have not regretted it. Features equivalent to those in Outlook without all the MS BS.
Doesn't appear to be working in Win10 Home.
This was very helpful, thank you.
Thanks Brian again another great tutorial but I wish I had known this yesterday as I updated both my 10 Pro installs but never mind it is simple to go back and do the gpedit stuff eh? I also think that you including the Home version folks too is really good of you and mate for me that registry stuff just fascinates me after I have used many that you have shown in the past.👍👍
Thanks very much, Brian. These videos and the work you do to create them are *greatly* appreciated.
You're welcome
Thanks for this. I just followed your instructions and all is fine except 'Disable automatic updates' is missing from the 'Policies set on your device'. Have I missed something or is this ok?
Thanks for this, going have to do this on my won 10 system
Thank you! I appreciate you looking out for us.
My pleasure!
Thats a strange move and I think you're probably right, I've just put together a Windows 10 PC for someone, thanks for that. Have a great weekend. 👍
Thanks, you to
Awesome and again thank you very much mister!
You're welcome
Thank You very much!
Totally agree, there's a definite strategy apparent here from Microsoft to push out the same negatively received "features" to both 10 and 11.
Always very informative. Thanks again.
My pleasure!
Thanks Brian, good stuff. You never cease to amaze me. 👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
This didn't work for me for some reason. I am using Windows 10 Home 22H2, so I followed your registry hacks, but when I restarted and went to the update page, the "Get the latest updates...." button wasn't greyed out and it all looked the same as before. I double checked to see if I'd mis-typed anything. I spotted one typo which I corrected. Same result....
Many of us have the same issue.
Im using home single language and I have the same problem. It seems no change happened by using only registry. Maybe I just make a mess in my registry and feels regret
@@faceless.anonymous I don't think it's anything you need to regret. If it doesn't work, it's just harmless.

It does not seem to have worked on my Windows 10 Home. The windows update page gives no option other than to pause updates for 7 days, or install ASAP.
Ok Brian mate have done that now and thanks again👍👍As an afterthought I know you have done some gpedit tutorials in the past but I don't know how to find them but will have to search unless there is an easy way to find them.
Thank you very much! You are the best!
You're welcome!
Great video and information. I've done this on my Windows 10 machines.
Glad it helped
I have Windows 10 home and added the keys/values shown. There are no observable changes on the windows update page.

@@SirWolf2018 Same here, did the registry edit but I don't see the described changes on the update screen.
Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome!
Thank you sooooooooo much Brian!!!
My pleasure!!
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Made the changes recommended in the video about a week ago and haven't been able to download the security update that's been pending. The download has errored out about four times now.
Thanks bri i just followed your instructions and now is all good, the reason i never moved to win 11 is because of all the bloat i certainly would not like my win 10 going the same way. love to all.
Hi Britech Can you do a video on how stay secure on windows 10 after support ends.
Thank you SO much, Brian! 😍❤❤
You're so welcome!
Great video, will take this onboard; but have a;ready updated my dads old laptop, an i5 3rd gen with 16GB ddr3 ram and an 2.5" Samsung ssd 1Tb to Linux mint. works great! so quick. starting to get comfortable using the command line in Linux, it just wrks, great for an office box laptop. will be doing this win 10 alterations to my older i7 4790k when i get the chance. thanks for the videos, always learning so much from you, thank you.
I think it's for extended support service beta?
Is the manual updates part of this required? Like if I leave it on automatic will it just install security updates automatically?
That is strongly implied. You could give it a try and see as it is unlikely to break anything and you can always switch to manual if you like. I think the manual install was chosen simply because so many people are looking for more fine grained control over what gets installed and when.
Thank you Brian.
Very welcome
Once again - thanks for the update ! ... this might have saved us a lot of trouble 👌
No problem 👍
As always your instructions are great unfortunatley even following to the leter no change after a restart on 10 home...
Yes, no change made on 10 home, unfortunately
I have the same issue. I followed the registry settings, double checked everything, I see no change in the Windows Update settings, it's like the policies haven't been applied.
Excellent tutorial, as always, thank you sir! Now - a question - if you don't mind - I have another computer with WIN11 on it, can I use this same technique to make it stay on 23H2 and not go to 24H2? Thank you and greetings from Croatia! :)
Yes mate
@@Britec09 Excellent!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you, i have little Celeron (2Gb RAM only) with 22H2 doing some automated email tasks, I don't want Microsoft to mess this little pc up with Copilot or other RAM hungry extras.
So, I have followed your Home reg edit, all fine. Thank you!
Glad it helped
This is good stuff Brian, thanks. Btw, I had Win7 till January/2024 and all was good, even when security updates no more. AV, FW kept me out of trouble along with backup regularly, so not to worry about security update when it dies. Just in case also, Linux is getting more popular and many programs will need to adapt to Linux too and MS scares of it. So no panic here.
Great explanation!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
As so often happens I went to my windows 10 pro pc & found it's slightly different, thanks for trying, I'll try to work out how/why my version is different. Only 3 entries instead of 5 & no mention of version limiting.
Merci beaucoup pour cette information ;-)
Thank's a lot for this information ;-)
You're welcome
Hello Brian, I have Windows 10 Home. When i go in the Registry Editor i already have a folder WindowsUpdate. My question is, can i still follow your steps?
I think you can still follow the steps, yes, me saying this as a software developer. It's likely some settings have already been made. It's hard to tell what those settings could be, but you can take a look and decide to just ignore or disagree with them and do your preferred settings anyway.
ruclips.net/video/jFtCF8ebue4/видео.html
Strange I've followed this guide step by step to make sure I've got everything right, but after the restart I don't see the red writing saying some settings are managed by your organisation..tried it twice now, im on windows 10 home so followed this guide precisely..any suggestions please would be helpful thanks
same for me as well. 🤨
I'm on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and I already got Co-Pilot, which I don't mind, but I don't want this recall
Does Microsoft roll out the same updates worldwide?
Recall has been disabled for now.
Thanks for the tutorial but I followed your instructions for Windows Home and I'm not getting the "Some settings are managed by your organisation / view configured update policies" notification after restarting. And "get the latest updates as soon as they're available" isn't greyed out either. Have I made a mistake? Thanks
Mine is like yours, seems nothing happened. Im using home single language. U think it does make some changes by using only registry editor?
@@faceless.anonymous I have no idea. Let's hope Britec responds
me too. no change. maybe its because there is no updates available yet

This works perfectly on Windows 10 Pro with the group policy, but when I did it on a Windows Home version laptop exactly like you said, and rebooted and when into updates, there was nothing there that said it was set to manual, just the regular screen as before... anyone else have this on Windows 10 Home version?
I have home version and appears not to have disabled or show some setting are managed by your organisation
Same here. Did the registry stuff on Win10 Home and got no red message saying it was being "managed by your organisation" and I don't have the blue "view configured update policies" message either. I rechecked I did everything correct in the registry.

@@micky38 lets hope this Britec guy will address this!
Yes, makes no change on home version
Will this work on windows 11 22H2?, I don't want specific apps to break because of the update
Yes
What about "allow local admin to choose setting"? OOSU10 keeps getting changed back to auto update every reboot, and I wish they'd tweak that software to avoid this.
They maybe want to get some of that A.I spyware onto windows 10. Using win10 Ltsc here but been expermenting with Linux thats probaly where ill be heading sooner or later .
Do we need to create these too for the QWORD (64-bit) Value?
DWORD should be enough. It's just a data type, the choice between DWORD or QWORD (32 or 64 bits) tells the range of the data the entry allows holding, so it does not have anything to do with your CPU's data with which is 64 bits these days.
I will not make a decision until october 25, but i sure love to stop thing right where they are! Too much microsoft bloatware already. Very useful video!
Yup, did locked into 22H2, we will see what happens, i am planning to keep this computer as offline editor, i have some softwares here that probably not work with Win11, and i will not find replacements. Trying to see all other settings now too if i missed something they could exploit.
I will get modern fresh computer for online stuff later.
Could someone create an executable script for adding these to the registry on home?
I was meaning to do this for a while, spotted this video and got it done, thanks! Subbed. I expect MS will try to push more AI stuff down peoples throats just to get it out to the public and maybe add more advertisement and profiling data features since MS is becoming an ad driven company as well it seems. If you're a glass half full type you might think MS is making a U turn and keep supporting W10 for longer since no one wants to throw out their perfectly-functioning-but-not-supported-by-W11 garbage thing.
I have a non profit volume license so I'm hoping to get security updates for little money. If not I'll probably move my latest PC to w11 and try to strip it down. I may even just delete or rename copilot files or block it using a firewall if I have to. Other PCs (one for electronics, one for CNC and a couple of laptops) I'll probably just block everything except local network access and keep w10. One can be loaded with Linux probably, if it supports the electronics dev kits that I sometimes use. The others have non compatible software that can't run or are glitchy at best on linux.
Is it possible to UPGRADE to Win 7 Pro?!
Windows 7 Pro is end of life and should not be used
I do still use it, you technically can, but it is more and more unsupported by applications
@@Britec09 I used 7 Pro until 6 months ago when it finally gave it up. I had a funeral service with friends. Buying another one but editing only. BTW: I can still load & use my trusty MS Digital Image Suite in 10 Pro. Call me Die Hard.
@@aletondaXThanks! Read mine to Britec if you have time.
Windows 7 is insecure and should not be used. You can customize Windows 10 to look and function much like Windows 7 instead.
That article only applies to devices enrolled in the Windows Insider Program. Mainstream users are not affected by it.
For how long though
Done. Windows 10 Pro. Thank you Brian. 👍
Glad I could help
I believe since not only opening the beta channels for Windows 10, also giving us feature updates again. That means the 2025 end of support date for Windows 10 is not really set in stone despite what Microsoft says.
I do remember that when will is 10 first came out, there are two operating systems out at the same time Windows 10 and Windows 7
Microsoft might be having a change of mind about the end of support for Windows 10 pictures of the backlash on Windows 11, like they did with Windows 7 when Windows 10 came out because the backlash Windows 8 and 8.1.
Tried this, followed the instruction for Home, rebooted, checked the Update status and it imediately started to install the latest update. 'Get the latest...' is not greyed out. No 'Some settings are managed..' notification at the top. Didn't seem to work. (Win10 Home, 22H2)

Funny thing, after this reg change and restart message from Microsoft. Something wrong with my account.... wanted a new sign in. Didn't get one and all ok on PC
This is _especially_ important with Windows 10 End-Of-Life coming up... because, who's to say MICROS~1 won't decide to "pull a Google Graveyard" and _implement a killswitch update_ to auto-force systems to Win11 (or cease functioning otherwise) at some point prior to the EOL?
And people say Linux is hard.
Its not hard, it can't do everything some people need.
@@Britec09 Like Windows, it can't do everything some people need.

I have win 10 Home and get to GP Edit thru admin run
I think this broke all the updates. It just throws installation errors now for security updates.
I am still on Windows 10 22H2 and Copilot got installed a couple of months ago, by itself
Thanks, done, but will Microsoft obey, or just ignore all of this via a 'security update'
Visited my mother-in-law yesterday and she was in half a panic. Windows 11 had "accidentally" self-ruined her computer. Luckily it was within the grace period so a rollback was still possible. I did this exact thing on her computer to stop it from redoing the install next week.
Now, I hope they don't roll out an update that ignores this and forces the downgrade on you anyway.
Won't this turn off security updates?
No
I use sledgehammer to disable auto updates
Another tip for posterity. Just got to keep the crap that I don't want/need. Thank you.
Glad to help
I have a windows 10 debloated...with updates turned off....i have version 1809...with vista transformed os...and work great....for this time i don't want to step up to linux Zorin yet...i will stay on this version how much is possible...it is full internet of debloated variant of windows 10 with windows 7 skins...or vista...and work great..
Same with windows 11...they are come without copilot or other bullshh.. inside...
They could be trying to test run selective bit from Windows 11, so that when 10 is officially dead, they will have as much working as possible on as many pc configurations as possible.
There is a high learning curve now with Windows with all these tweaks. If you switch to linux, the learning curve is smaller.
Seems like Microsoft is extending Windows 10 end of support on users pressure.
Hi Brian thank you for your videos as usual as,I say you're doing good great job explaining windows 10 etc and computering, as we know Windows 10 is ending their security just before Christmas, my question is all the computers like Intel 9th generation I have,I don't really want to upgrade the moment is doing great, is there a way to install Windows 11, someone told me you could get away with it there is a trick to install Windows 11 older computers, they said is it true if so possible can you do a video please.
Thank you very much as usual😊
Intel 9th generation is supported for Windows 11, made videos on unsupported hardware
Places I never knew to exist on my pc 😢
Migrated to Linux. Had enuff MicroWoke.
I was using Windows 10, but am now on a dual boot system running Linux mint. Getting my head around Linux has been a steep learning curve for me but I am now on top of it. The reason I am dumping Windows 10 is because Microsoft stopped me using my full retail Windows 8 key for windows 10. I had to buy a Windows 10 retail key again, then I started using Linux mint. They stopped me getting into my pc until I created a Microsoft account and logged in with it. It's my pc, it belongs to me! but the software belongs to Microsoft although it cost me over £100. The Microsoft account is now history, as is my hotmail account, I shut it down. Only my Mrs now uses windows. There's a lesson there for Microsoft.
This is exactly the kind of "tips" I just don't understand. Not installing updates is not a solution either... Make a proper backup and if MS screws up again (and they definitely will as their quality assurance is at the moment) you can very quickly restore the backup.
An external sdd/hdd and the free veeam agent are enough...
btw.
Windows 10 release information
The final version of Windows 10 is version 22H2, which will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025.
There are no more new feature updates...
It may come as a shock but Windows 10 will *will* continue to get support and updates after the end of life date. They are implementing a paid plan to continue and after previous Windows EOL debacles you can bet a lot of people will continue on Win10 than go to 11.
I’m sick and tired of this. I think this is the last straw.
Just do what I show in video and your Windows 10 experience won't change
It's called $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !
Thanks for advise, could be that they want bloat w10 into unuseability, or recognizing that few people want to update to w11 and are afraid that people will walk away and start a cascade of loss for MS. It wouldn’t be fist time that arrogance has been taught a lesson. In any case slowly I am moving to Linux, with each month of practice, Linux looks a little better
And people say Linux is hard.
@@Britec09 I know it is what "they" say. But it really grinds me gears calling an OS an "experience"... An OS is a tool, it should make it easier to do the jobs. I don't call my lawnmower an "experience" or my cooker and "experience".... I think this is where Microsoft are getting on many peoples tits. Just provide an operating system that allows us to do our work FFS....
I simply disable updates in my Windows 10 pro system.😀
Which means you are not secure. Really bad idea.
Hold up. Hold the fk up... 4:20 where's the #1 option? Because logic dictates that would be the one that's "Don't notify, download, nor install". Sneaky buggers...
Adding RECALL
I never have the updates enabled anyway. They break more things than they fix.
Which means your system is severely compromised. Bad idea.
What a pain. So glad I only see Windows at work. Windows requires too much effort to retain control over it at home without being on a work domain with centralized management over it.
Good explanation of how to do it though. Lets hope Microsoft doesn't sneak in an update to change those settings on you in the future.
Hej Brian thanks for the video I think it's absolutely incredible that Microsoft opens feature updates and unnecessary if Windows 10 ends 14 January 2025. Microsoft should leave Windows 10 alone the more things are rolled out the more things can break. But thanks Brian very useful i will fix this on my windows 10 computer i absolutely do not want any more feature updates on my windows 10 computer take Brian and have a lovely day.
