If you look closely, it has some scales, and the format of his head kinda looks like a dragon. It's just because of his mane and way of walking/attacking that looks like a unicorn. In the Lore many hunters died to Kirin because they thought he was only a little horse...
lol, "Elder Dragon" is a classification based on the power/intensity of a creature, the wiki says: "Elder Dragons are creatures that defy typical classification and sit outside of the standard ecosystem, regardless of any superficial resemblance to a dragon. These monsters are usually rare creatures with immense power that have lived since ancient times, making them more of a phenomenon than a mere animal; disasters, cataclysms, living forces of nature." And the guy by the training school says something similar, he's like "People ask me sometimes why is something like a Kirin called an Elder Dragon" etc lol
@@mrjazz5294 He's not exactly a bringer of disaster - he's super aggressive but in a territorial animal kind of way and not a walking disaster way, he's not gonna go anywhere near human settlements for the sake of it. That being said: Rajang WAS canonically thought to be an elder dragon before they settled on a fanged beast.
lol I'm still upset that I muted an audio track on this video without realizing 😔 For that part, the music cuts out as I kick kirin, and as I start running away it plays the "stop it was just a prank bro im just joking" clip lol feels bad.
@@HeadHunter455 oh yeah that reminds me I need to subscribe to your channel :) doing FU on my IOS (again) rn and while I’ve already done most monsters I still like your videos, bring back so much memories, ie. this Kirin vid shows pattern which was exactly my strategy back then when I first fought him.
Yeah, there's a reason I didn't use that tbh, it's pretty self explanatory. That being said, it's basically the way to go. Kirin is such a mess of a fight in 2nd gen, honestly. I try to avoid the fight as much as I possibly can for the series, but even just in general. It's rough.
i realise that some monsters especialy velocidrome and kirin just stay still not moving a bit allowing a free hits. I also realise if the Velociprey has jump attack and we attacking while they jump. They will be torn appart and we can't crave it
Just have them in the same area and drink the Stamina Juice. Run around like a bitch and watch as Kirin gets blown away and Kushala Daora being a living lightning rod.

#2: Basically, Elder Dragon is a classification based on the power and intensity of a monster, rather than its resemblance to a dragon. "more of a phenomenon than a mere animal; disasters, cataclysms, living forces of nature." usually controlling the elements to some severe degree, like Kushala and Lunastra/Teostra, I guess Chameleos being an Elder Dragon is because it's so big and strong but also so incredibly invisible that it can be hard or impossible to even know where it's going let alone what it's doing. #3: 😉😉 #4: Yeah I did too, figured I'd look at the footage, and sure enough there's a pattern lol #5:😅😅😅😓😅😅 #6: Yep, Kirin is a unique Elder Dragon (in more ways than one of course) in that small monsters don't run away. I guess Kushala etc really oppress an area and everything has to run away, but Kirin I guess is pretty chill? Not sure. #7: 😉😉 that's the joke 😄😄 #8: A life well lived...(?) a death well deserved... or something #9: 😏😏😏😏 #10: 😳😳 #11: yeah lol, another thing about Kirin that's different from other monsters in its category. #12: Thanks for watching! 🙂🙂 Cya next time, Lunastra is next 😄
1:56 I always use gs on him and charge atk when he does that. After than he justs rams me over lol and hes just fun to fight overall. And about 2:11 I was just about to say it usually is random lmao im sry. And also you cant use shock and pitfall traps against elder dragons... (well at least I think :D)
You can. But it only manage to stagger them for about 5 seconds before it's broken. First experience using traps on Elder Dragon is against a Camelios. Fucker went invisible and step on the shock trap. I was just about to run and hit it with my GS, but the trap exploded and leave me baffled.
@@zacksilverstone7642 Oh lol good to know but with Chameleos, I just usually bomb him when he is raged and then crap ton of sonic bombs while scratching him with Rathalos gs.
Yeah you really just have to keep hitting it and trust in your skills, the fight can end pretty quickly since Kirin doesn't have much health, but it's a dangerous fight and Kirin can be hard to hit.
It's still baffling that this unicorn is an elder dragon. And it's weird how this is the only elder dragon the villagers could get their hands on for the solo training. But thanks for the tips. Though, I'm probably not gonna use that Diablos Sword. That negative affinity just leaves me in pain.
Well, Elder Dragon is just a classification, they don't have to bear any resemblence to an actual Dragon, there are other Elders who don't look like dragons too. That being said, it is pretty funny that this is in the training arena, yeah. I guess in terms of how destructive they are, Kirin's are kinda lower on the scale, and more peaceful, less territorial. "We've taken to using the term Elder Dragon for any creature that defies ordinary classification, but I suppose you could call them a type of phenomenon: disasters, cataclysms, living, breathing forces of nature." That's from MHWorld Negative affinity is usually not that big of a deal, as much as positive affinity isn't either, depending on your base damage, but that's fair enough. -10% affinity is an average of -2.5% damage which, in this case, would make our 912 damage (190 when unbloated) into ~889 (~185 unbloated), which isn't that much less. In practice the negative hits you DO land will be -25%, but over time, it won't be that much. More impactful on slower weapons, but still not that much worth considering IMO.
😁 Unfortunately I didn't export this with music and sound effects like a dum dum, it was much less of a jump scare with those lol I deleted the files (like a dum dum) before I realized there was a problem 😢
Apparently I've heard that the definition of an Elder Dragon is that it's a monster that has no definite ancestors or relative (something like that) and I would assume Kirin is considered as one is there's probably no horse in the Monster Hunter universe. Another is that Elder Dragons are major threats and can destroy the environment, which I don't see on Kirin considering it looks pretty tame and calm compared to other Elder Dragons.
im beginning to associate the sound of fire crackling with MH menu sounds edit: that GS is so nostalgic for me, i remember seeing it all the time in those 2009 MHFU videos with 009 sound system playing. Same with the copper blango LS
I was in the premier I was also 3rd. P3rd! Portable 3rd! Monster Hunter Portable 3rd??!! Destiny is telling me to play mhp3rd!!?? WHEN WATCHING A MHFU VID
I used to hate Kirin and then I found out I can just shell it to death with long or wide GL in World. Still kind of a tense fight since the hops need to be on point (especially for tempered Kirin) but manageable. Now, I'm not sure if the same will be true for when I reach Kirin in my current MHFU re-visiting. Not being able to hop after shelling and low shell damage in general is probably going to make this harder.
Well, Kirin telegraphs its thunder attacks in world, in MHFU it's random, or if it's not, I have no damn clue what pattern it does its attacks in. Good luck! I think it has less health in MHFU, dunno.
Yeah, but that's pretty RNG, you can get knives from area 7, but it's not guaranteed, and you'll need at least... 4? I don't know the exact numbers, but kirin has an initial sleep threshold of 200, which is pretty standard. I think unless you're using a bow or maybe SNS, you shouldn't try to use them, and if you are sleep bombing, I'm pretty sure the bombs they give you are not large barrel bomb+ equivalent, so they'd do less damage... and kirin isn't the easiest thing to put to sleep, especially if you want to do it multiple times.

"Elder Dragons are creatures that defy typical classification and reside outside of the standard ecosystem, regardless of their resemblance to a dragon. These monsters are rare creatures with immense power that have lived since ancient times." They share a couple of similarities such as not being able to be captured or put in traps, as well as lore wise they're powerful enough to destroy or at least affect entire areas by just being in them, depending on the game this is actually reflected in game. Small monsters are also, usually, completely absent due to the danger of them. Teostra can make ash fall from the sky, Kushala can make the area windy, Chameleos can make the area foggy, etc. Here's a cool example of that, though this is MHGU: twitter.com/BannedDino/status/1506450086066225152
mhp3 is better. After that, 4/4G and then Gen, so it's played as it should be. Or you can just go randomly and finish tri then iceborne then FU then Gen then 4u like i did. 'twas fun
@@quackquack8775 well im playing 3 games simultaneously , mhf1 , mhfu and gen ultimate , planning on bringing mhp3rd next , wont be doing iceborne just yet but im planning to (don't have a 3ds so sadly i cant do 4G) , and oh my comment was about what game would he be making content for next since he might finish mhfu someday
Not sure, currently planning to cover the game through G rank, and all of the monsters (if I can) after that... not sure. Maybe MHP3rd, it could be cool to cover other games, but I'm not able to record footage from my 3DS, so it would have to be emulated, and I may look into that, and I could also make MHW guides/videos as well. We'll see. Might even make some videos on MHF1 sometime if I can think of something. But probably not a main series.
Kirin is basically Anteka and Kelbi, but deadlier + thunderous. Also, would Hammer be a good match up against Kirin? I'd like to say Hunting Horn, or even Lance and Gunlance, but not entirely sure.
I think Hammer could be good, but it's sluggish, getting a KO would be good, Kirin doesn't have much health in general, you just need to actually hit it and prevent yourself from getting hit, those are the hard parts lol Hunting Horn is much faster than Hammer, weaker per hit though. Lance and Gunlance could work, but if you don't have Guard Inc, you won't be able to block the lightning strikes, which may or may not be a problem, but being able to stab upwards or upswing to hit Kirin's head or horn is pretty good.
I just killed my first high rank of this thing, idk why I'm struggling a lot it is literally same as the low rank counter part and I farmed that, I'm intimidated by it or something, like the tigrex effect on me, calmed down and noticed I was just walking in circles and shooting it once with a pellet shot, over and over, did sleep bomb it twice, too not the easiest thing to it's so hard to aim at this moving nonstop
The worse part for me I killed him the first time. I also forgot what weapon I used so when I get to play MHFU I used a green sharpness longsword, you know what happened later on 😂. Turns out I used the bowgun before but things change I prefer the bow now
i use the barrel bomb they give me, just throw paintball to the bomb when kirin charge (kirin like to charge), but dont stand straight to him so when it use skills, the thunder dont hit the bomb.
@master-of-gam01078 😉 Yep! "Elder Dragon" in Monster Hunter is a classification of particularly powerful creatures who's mere presence can potentially have ecological shifting consequences, they're a step above the normal monsters we see. They don't need to share any characteristics of an actual dragon, though there are a bunch that do 😄
Well, Kushala was placed earlier than the other elder dragons, probably because he's the flagship of Monster Hunter 2, and this is a supplementary 2nd gen game, like Rise to World tbh, I find Kushala to be a lot easier than Kirin, or at least more consistent. Kirin is just too random in the old games, and needing to rely on one weapon/strategy kinda sucks, at least with Kushala I feel like I can use GS and LS due to their reach, and maybe Hammer with the superpound, or you could just use the armor skill to make yourself immune to his aura too. Kirin is just... random lightning, shoot with scatter shot lol, and if you don't do that, then it's just awful.
I accidentally muted the music track unfortunately, so there's no music, and that part had sound from a prank clip, but I didn't notice until after the video was uploaded and the project files were deleted :(
Yeah for reals. Kirin has relatively low health, but actually hitting the head/horn is tough. Using a bowgun with pellet shots can help, but then you're super vulnerable and may die in one hit. I hope you have good luck if you want to farm it for anything, not to mention the RNG involved with getting the quest to appear haha >.
Nice! 😄 Yeah SnS have a higher sharpness mod compared to other weapons, interestingly enough. Some moves for some weapons wont bounce while others would, but SnS in general gets more value at least in terms of not bouncing. Definitely helps make it pretty powerful 🙂
i just used your four horns guide to fight kirin and i wasn't able to sleep him. even monoblos quest was hard near impossible. does the weapon(black parasol) have problem to shot sleep s or anything?cause it's so slow
Depending on the shot type, the recoil will be more or less dramatic. I don't think you're ever able to fire Status 2 shots without recoil without a specific setup, and for Status 1 shots to be "recoilless" you'll need at least "Light" recoil on your gun, which you should be able to get by putting a silencer on your gun. This isn't anything unique to the Black Parasol. More info here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EpMs8iducma2oRZaGvgjij_UhZQNHYn11EdtS7ex0X0/edit#gid=2106006264&range=A3:G11 Kirin requires 200 sleep buildup to put to sleep, that will require ~4 sleep 2 shots, or ~8 sleep 1 shots. I wouldn't really recommend using that because the next time you want to put Kirin to sleep you'll need 250 sleep buildup, and and that point you may be running low. Keep in mind you also need to apply the status quickly enough or it will wear off of the monster and you'll need to use more shots. More info on Kirin here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EpMs8iducma2oRZaGvgjij_UhZQNHYn11EdtS7ex0X0/edit#gid=1354339551&range=A443:P449 I used the Black Parasol vs Diablos because of the pellet shots, it's pretty effective against Diablos and Monoblos, and also vs Kirin, just use pellet shots and aim for the horn, most of the time at least some of the shots will hit the horn, make sure to bring combines, I'd recommend mostly focusing on Pellet 2 since Pellet 3 will have recoil unless you have a silencer equipped. I fight Kirin with a bowgun here: ruclips.net/video/bcTe-GGLzXQ/видео.html If you've seen my Four Horns video you should be able to do that for low rank Monoblos, since that video is a low rank set up. Hope that helps.
I'm pretty sure you can cut through if you have a high enough tier sharpness, though I'm not sure which, there's also some other factors like Longsword's Spirit Gauge being filled, Greatsword doing a high enough charge attack, and Hunting Horn playing their 2nd W-W or P-P song.
If a My little pony character got struck by lightning, got powers, then left their city to train in the icy mountains, his best friend hunter tried to get him back but killed Hunter's GF so Hunter Killed Kirin no questions asked
Yeaah, Kirin is annoying to fight. If you want to farm it, consider using LBG or HBG with pellet shots as the shots will hit the horn more often than not. Good luck with the tail!!!
I find longsword the most intuitive to use but used to use gs for a while when I played this game before. I just hate investing in a good one when I use ls 99%of the time
Kirin is a nuisance, especially on Grank, spewing lightning everywhere. Also, real nice, cuz I can't beat him with a greatsword xD, I'm too slow (Mostly impatient) haha
I just beat him with a GS and it is a pain in the ass to get a good hit. After watching this video I got better and killed him. Kirin really has lower health than apex monsters
@@saturnringer267 Kirin is easy anyways. You just need to save a lot of Healing items to outlast their rage mode. Hit it with a Greatsword if it turns around.
@@saturnringer267 Kirin is easy anyways. You just need to save a lot of Healing items to outlast their rage mode. Hit it with a Greatsword if it turns around.
You have to fight Shen Gaoren at the end of the low rank village elder quests, you do that hunt right before unlocking high rank village quests, so, just keep playing the game normally.
For Kirin, maybe, I'm not too sure tbh. The damage of bombs doesn't scale, so, it'd be almost as useful in low rank as it is in high and G rank, though there is some defense modifiers to worry about. Kirin has pretty low health, and if you're using a light bow gun for example, you might as well go for a sleep or two if you can while also using pellet shots. The only monsters I've used sleep bombing for in my videos are Blangonga, Rajang, Basarios, and Tigrex, but if you want to give it a try you can.
I would like to add that Kirin has a second stagger animation when you hit him from behind. He's sent flying like a Kelbi and you get a big opportunity to attack. "From behind" doesn't mean "attack its tail", it just means "Hunter and Kirin face the same direction when hit connects". There's a really skillful video showing this from BlurBerry888 on a G rank Kirin with a longsword.
I've always found this fight really easy. You can just use a bowgun with pellet shots. They track the horn for some reason, you just have to face Kirin's general direction and fire, and you can also use them to set off barrel bombs when Kirin is charging past them.

lol, "Elder Dragon" is a classification based on the power/intensity of a creature, the wiki says:
"Elder Dragons are creatures that defy typical classification and sit outside of the standard ecosystem, regardless of any superficial resemblance to a dragon. These monsters are usually rare creatures with immense power that have lived since ancient times, making them more of a phenomenon than a mere animal; disasters, cataclysms, living forces of nature."
And the guy by the training school says something similar, he's like "People ask me sometimes why is something like a Kirin called an Elder Dragon" etc lol
@@HeadHunter455 If that so, why Rajang ain't classified as elder dragon? I mean he fuckin' hunts kirins to nom nom their precious horn.
@@mrjazz5294 He's not exactly a bringer of disaster - he's super aggressive but in a territorial animal kind of way and not a walking disaster way, he's not gonna go anywhere near human settlements for the sake of it.

Oh , ok cause I think I need to break its tail 😅😅
Great video! I usually use hammer im or lbg spamming pellet in him.
Thanks! Yeah I may show that off sometime.
I thought the fight will never end by seeing that there is no response of getting damage unlike other monster
"We've taken to using the term Elder Dragon for any creature that defies ordinary classification, but I suppose you could call them a type of phenomenon: disasters, cataclysms, living, breathing forces of nature." That's from MHWorld
Negative affinity is usually not that big of a deal, as much as positive affinity isn't either, depending on your base damage, but that's fair enough.
Your videos are great 👌

'Considering Kirin is an elder dragon'
WTF? I thought it was a fking unicorn
lol if you go to the japanese wiki, Kirin's name (google translated) is "Giraffe" so...
Add that to the list of things we can call Kirin 😄😄
Apparently I've heard that the definition of an Elder Dragon is that it's a monster that has no definite ancestors or relative (something like that) and I would assume Kirin is considered as one is there's probably no horse in the Monster Hunter universe.
Another is that Elder Dragons are major threats and can destroy the environment, which I don't see on Kirin considering it looks pretty tame and calm compared to other Elder Dragons.
That kick was personal

The thunder pony of death is apon us
I used to hate Kirin and then I found out I can just shell it to death with long or wide GL in World.
Good video thanks now i can easily hunt the kirin
Glad I could help
13:44 and the elder dragon ? Is dead
one way to use those bombs could be by crafting sleep knives
Yeah, but that's pretty RNG, you can get knives from area 7, but it's not guaranteed, and you'll need at least... 4? I don't know the exact numbers, but kirin has an initial sleep threshold of 200, which is pretty standard.
I think unless you're using a bow or maybe SNS, you shouldn't try to use them, and if you are sleep bombing, I'm pretty sure the bombs they give you are not large barrel bomb+ equivalent, so they'd do less damage... and kirin isn't the easiest thing to put to sleep, especially if you want to do it multiple times.

What exactly denotes, "elder dragon"? All I see is funny electric horsey
"Elder Dragons are creatures that defy typical classification and reside outside of the standard ecosystem, regardless of their resemblance to a dragon. These monsters are rare creatures with immense power that have lived since ancient times."
They share a couple of similarities such as not being able to be captured or put in traps, as well as lore wise they're powerful enough to destroy or at least affect entire areas by just being in them, depending on the game this is actually reflected in game. Small monsters are also, usually, completely absent due to the danger of them.
Teostra can make ash fall from the sky, Kushala can make the area windy, Chameleos can make the area foggy, etc.
Here's a cool example of that, though this is MHGU:

after covering most monsters and quests or just finishing mhfu , what game would you move to next? mhp3rd? mhtri?
mhp3 is better.
Not sure, currently planning to cover the game through G rank, and all of the monsters (if I can)
after that...
My go-to weapon for this thing is the sword and shield or 2 swords
You can land plenty of hits easy
this isn't monster hunter freedom game THIS IS PONY HUNTER FREEDOM UNITE TF?
Kirin is basically Anteka and Kelbi, but deadlier + thunderous.
Also, would Hammer be a good match up against Kirin? I'd like to say Hunting Horn, or even Lance and Gunlance, but not entirely sure.
I think Hammer could be good, but it's sluggish, getting a KO would be good, Kirin doesn't have much health in general, you just need to actually hit it and prevent yourself from getting hit, those are the hard parts lol
Hunting Horn is much faster than Hammer, weaker per hit though.
Turns out I used the bowgun before but things change I prefer the bow now
Oof, well, Bow is a pretty awesome weapon!
It took me a while to get into but I've always liked the idea of using one.

I got one on luck and I really have no use for it tbh
I didn't think this was an Elder Dragon.
@master-of-gam01078 😉
Yep! "Elder Dragon" in Monster Hunter is a classification of particularly powerful creatures who's mere presence can potentially have ecological shifting consequences, they're a step above the normal monsters we see. They don't need to share any characteristics of an actual dragon, though there are a bunch that do 😄
@HeadHunter455 This might be easier than fighting the kushala daora. I suspect they misplaced it.
Well, Kushala was placed earlier than the other elder dragons, probably because he's the flagship of Monster Hunter 2, and this is a supplementary 2nd gen game, like Rise to World
tbh, I find Kushala to be a lot easier than Kirin, or at least more consistent.

*Bring a long, LONG lightning rod.*
Gdi it is an endurance run, if only sword draw was avalible earlier.

More info here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EpMs8iducma2oRZaGvgjij_UhZQNHYn11EdtS7ex0X0/edit#gid=2106006264&range=A3:G11
Kirin requires 200 sleep buildup to put to sleep, that will require ~4 sleep 2 shots, or ~8 sleep 1 shots. I wouldn't really recommend using that because the next time you want to put Kirin to sleep you'll need 250 sleep buildup, and and that point you may be running low. Keep in mind you also need to apply the status quickly enough or it will wear off of the monster and you'll need to use more shots.
More info on Kirin here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EpMs8iducma2oRZaGvgjij_UhZQNHYn11EdtS7ex0X0/edit#gid=1354339551&range=A443:P449
I used the Black Parasol vs Diablos because of the pellet shots, it's pretty effective against Diablos and Monoblos, and also vs Kirin, just use pellet shots and aim for the horn, most of the time at least some of the shots will hit the horn, make sure to bring combines, I'd recommend mostly focusing on Pellet 2 since Pellet 3 will have recoil unless you have a silencer equipped.
I fight Kirin with a bowgun here: ruclips.net/video/bcTe-GGLzXQ/видео.html
If you've seen my Four Horns video you should be able to do that for low rank Monoblos, since that video is a low rank set up. Hope that helps.
Does the Kirin flee like the other elder dragons?
I don't think he does, he's got a relatively smaller health pool, and I've never had a Kirin run away in my quests.
does the demondrug and power seed stack up?
Yes, demon drug is, basically, the kitchen food buff buff, so those two won't stack, but they will stack with power seeds.
Will you only bounce if you're sword is green sharpness or does it apply for all levels of sharpness.
@@HeadHunter455 ok cool thanks

Speaking of bombs, are sleep bombing worth to do?
There's a really skillful video showing this from BlurBerry888 on a G rank Kirin with a longsword.
ok cool.
this is a low rank video.
