  • Do you have a service-over-self mentality? As a Navy Anesthesiologist you’ll evaluate, monitor and supervise patient care before, during and after surgery.

    Anesthesiologist: bit.ly/3gPaP3w
From emergency surgery to dental procedures, put your skills to the test in a variety of medical fields. You’re in charge of every patient’s safety and you’ll guide them through every phase of the surgery process. Taking care of Sailors on a ship, in a hospital, or in a field O.R. is more rewarding than any experience in the civilian world.

I had a hernia operation at sea with a Nurse Anesthesiologists and it made me want to become one. Didn’t work out. But, if you have 2 years college credit you can get sent to college to get a nursing degree and then serve for a while and then apply to get sent to school to become one all on the Navy’s dime. In the civilian world they make over $100,000. Just had my Cataracts surgery in the VA with Nurse Anesthesiologists and couldn’t have been better.

How can I become a nurse anesthetist in the navy with no experience. I’m 22 currently in the recruiting process, I have meps in December waiting on a surgery clearance. Surely I go the HM route but what after !?

I don't know much about the military, but to become a CRNA, regardless of military or not, you'll need at least a bachelor's degree in nursing and then to attend a CRNA program, which is a 3 year doctorate program.

You do not have to be an HM. Being in the field helps but advancing as an HM is hard due to the sheer volume of them in the military. You can enlist, complete your nursing prerequisites if possible, and then apply to MECP (Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program). This program sends you to school for your BSN. Once you have your BSN you would need to work at least 1 or 2 years in the ICU and then apply to the CRNA program for the Navy, or get out and complete it on the civilian side. Don't give up! I went in the Navy at 24 with a masters and a bachelors degree, did 8 years as a nuclear electrician, and then got out and completed my BSN, work in the ICU, and just got accepted into CRNA school.
