Thrusts are tricky to deal with sometimes. Especially those sport epee turned hema rapier people.
As a rapier guy, I can tell you that you need to be keeping that off-hand behind you if you don't want to lose it.
Like in general or vs longsword specifically? I wasn’t discounting my opponent’s ability to grapple and thought that would put me too far in a disadvantage
