    • @MartinFabian

      I am afraid it would be a rather dissapointing one :) I don't do anything special. Just trying to get a good amount of sleep, no practice 2-3 days before the tournament and during the tournaments I just socialize and sometimes wave the sword around if I'm bored :) Maybe the only thing is I'm trying to walk around as much as I can not get stiff with my muscles. Most of the preparation happens weeks, months and years before tournaments and tournaments don't stress me once I realized it's just fun.

      Hello Evelyn, nowadays I mostly do S&B for fun. Few years ago I studied most available S&B sources and my style is a mix of it. However I don't have much love for i33 besides using a few positions because of its fragmentary and unclear nature. I'd encourage people to work more with Liegnitzer, Marozzo and all other sources, including image only like Cluny or Durer sketchbook.

    Is protection needed in HEMA? or is it physically needed. I am a bigger person so finding stuff that fits sucks. But I am okay with a bruise or two

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  4 года назад +2

      For basic training you need a sword, a mask and some gloves. You could do a controlled sparring but it's very risky. Gear is necessary for full contact sparring without limitations.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  4 года назад +1

      I would strongly suggest for anyone to get the long cuff gloves. I don't see any special advantage someone could gain from the hourglass cuff. In fact you'd have to supplement the forearm protection with extra layer and you will end up plus minus the same except that for instance SPES vectir is quite stiff. When you get the long cuff, you just need the small plastic elbows and you're all done. In combo with a light jacket you will get a dexterity bonus :)

    • @WhyName
      @WhyName 4 года назад

      @@MartinFabian thanks for the reply. I have the pbt jacket with integrated forearm protection, which I'm thinking might be a bit annoying. Gonna see if anyone else has had issues with that combo.
      Also, I'm in Germany, and the ddhf rules require you to use a jacket with at least an 800n rating, otherwise I definitely would be using a light jacket.

    In theory, I like what your doing, BUT too much use of the word 'product' and too much selling stuff. The reality is, it does not take this aspect of medieval sword fighting to exist. OK, probably the first vid watched, from you, but invariably it says to much of the wrong stuff regarding you. Career; bad choice again. A 'career' implies you are making this a professional money making effort, which is a real turn-off... 99.9999999% of people could not do that; and I wouldn't want too. Medieval sword fighting it an avid pastime, not something we want to feel some smuck is living from.

    • @davidgreen7392
      @davidgreen7392 4 года назад

      I'm also confused; do you wear this out and about? If not, surely it's as cost effective to just buy real armour? Surely THAT is the industry we might prefer to support?

    • @blarpus
      @blarpus 4 года назад +6

      how dare he make money off of helping run a smithing company! Also this gear is for unarmoured fencing, so using an actual harness in stead would be pointless and more expensive too

    • @ARR0WMANC3R
      @ARR0WMANC3R 4 года назад +7

      Real, quality armor costs 10x what this kit costs and isn't ideal for unarmored fencing, because, well, it's armor.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  4 года назад +11

      Hey David, sorry I have hard time following what is your issue, mainly the second half :) I am not a native speaker and stuff like 'career' implicate something people do for a very long time in a dedicated manner. Product... is a name of thing which somebody produces? This video is not for 'selling stuff', I don't get paid by companies to promote them.

    • @estherin1031
      @estherin1031 4 года назад +9

      I think the main issue you have David Green is not knowing a thing about what HEMA is. Martin is one of the top HEMA fencers in the world, and as someone in that position he is constantly asked what gear he prefers. Being the cool guy he is (check his other videos he's funny), he made this for all us fanboys and fangirls. Give HEMA a try, you won't regret it.
