  • I loved my time with Granblue Fantasy: Relink - it was deeply nostalgic for me and honestly made me so happy to experience that reminded me of my childhood with Final Fantasy and other JRPGs. I have been so curious about the granblue universe and this was such a wonderful entry point. I can't wait to see where we go next. This series is made with love. clearly.

When Marco said "Granblue is home" I immidiately felt that and that's how I'd describe It too, since after countless disappointments in the gaming industry, Granblue fantasy relink brought me back the joy and the nostalgic excitement I used to get when I was a kid playing a JRPG, I've been waiting since forever for this game and ohhh boy It exceeded all my expectations, art-style wise, combat wise, voice acting, music, level design, QoL and even the minor details...., It's a masterpiece and Cygames cooked It so well, also I legit loved both Managarmr's and Versa's boss OSTs, the adrenaline rush I got from them is immesurable !

Wait till you hear "Zero", which is Lucilius theme song. It's basically Granblue's "One Winged Angel" equivalent and one of the best boss OST's of all time in my opinion.

Cygames and Granblue Fantasy (gacha game) are run by ex-Square Enix developers in the beginning. The gacha game also have a lot of heart in every aspects. Storytelling, music, turn-based gameplay. Surprising, it is also notorious for the invention of Pity system for gachas (Monkey gate incident). The franchise has really came a long way and we are having 10th anniversary in March 2024.
Relink looked like it was in development hell with Platinum Games touch-and-go. But with the way it turned out, it is really a resounding success. Relink is really a big W for Cygames and JRPGs in general. If the devs support Relink like how Capcom supported modern Monster Hunter games, it will really be the cherry on top

Granblue Fantasy's music has been severely underrated because 1) it's in a gacha game which 2) doesn't have much presence in the west. The "musical lore" of the game is easily as deep and complicated as Final Fantasy, Ace Combat and other franchise where lots of love has been poured into the music. I am so happy and excited that you have found this treasure trove!

It's also because the gacha game itself looks more like a "Flash Game," at least on the surface.
Don't get me wrong, though. That doesn't make it "bad," per se, but it definitely doesn't give a great first impression, especially not nowadays when most of the new mobile gacha games all feels like proper, high budget, games that can appeal to more than just mobile players

@@retromastery7010 Yeah, it's a fun enough game with an insane sound track that's 10/10, but the mobile game is dated. It actually is a browser game, so in a sense "Flash Game" is surprisingly accurate.

This game has a very special place in my heart, having played it for 8 years (stopping from time to time).
I just fell in love with the story and characters, the love the creators placed all over the work and the amazing music that keeps getting bangers almost every year.
I know a lot of people weren't really interested because of the outdated gameplay and user interfaces, so it makes me extremely happy to see people actually give the franchise a chance now that both Versus Rising and Relink came out. People are discovering an amazing world that has been developing for almost a decade by now.
There are a lot more amazing songs that you haven't discovered yet Marco, but I can only picture the smile on your face once you do, so please keep enjoying this franchise along the many other amazing video games out there!

I love that you brought up the whole "prog and classical" thing. It reminds me of a really funny story between Uematsu and Narita where Uematsu, after establishing the band Earthbound Papas, sent Narita a message with a list of album titles asking, "Tell me which of these you could sing from memory". Narita knew bands like Pink Floyd and Yes but was mostly in the dark about a lot of them. Roughly a week after his response, Narita received a massive package from Uematsu that included every album he said he *didn't* know.

It's been so many years since i enjoyed a game like ReLink. It's the joy of Ys combined with grand battles of Monster Hunter, alongside raid mechanics of mmos.
Tried the gacha around 3-4 years ago, and played the first Versus when it launched, but never something that lasted past the honeymoon phase on both cases (Versus because the netplay was bad on release). When the ReLink demo launched, it was pretty and all, but felt more of the same. Being stubborn as i am, i bought the full game either way and here i am, 100 hours in. This is my GoTY, every elite or boss battle on story mode made me smile from ear to ear. Even on end-game, those fights alongside outstanding soundtracks just gets me so hyped.
Managarmr and Id's battle theme are my favorites, with End of Ragnarok coming right behind just for the whole epic moment.

"I'm going to ask you all to try to remember the emotions that led you on the path of a musician" - Nobiyo Uematsu, Together in Song*
Your title warmed my heart and reminded me of why this almost 10-year old JRPG had become a solace for this nostalgic gamer who decided to pursue art in the first place, having fallen in love with the works created by painters, musicians and designers who have helped bring my favorite video games into my experiences of life. Something that has endeared me more to the folks I have seen who worked on Granblue Fantasy is how these individuals have carried their own experiences and expressed their passion and respect for the art works that has led them forward in their own journeys and remembering these hopeful beginnings have helped shape the beautiful world and the music that forms the Sky Realm. Even the singer behind the banger theme you were delving into this video has become a welcome voice to hear again as he had been singing together with Stella Magna on certain related musical themes that have become a core part of experiencing GBF 😊
It's a nice home to revisit even if the gaming landscape of the last decade since this series began has changed so much and I hope that you continue to enjoy your experiences with what has charmed your heart, Marco. The power of music brings people together as one! Thank you for sharing your wonder with us all! 🥰
*on this note: if ever you decide to experience any particular side story from Granblue Fantasy one day I would like to believe that this particular one where I recalled this line originated from will resonate with you as a lover of classical music and art 🥹

Having been a player of the mobile game for a solid 6 years, there's been so much music released from the game that I've come to enjoy. The range of classical to modern styles of music they've been able to cover is awesome! One suggestion I have is to take a look at some of the past Granblue Fes live streams from recent years because the band that works on a lot of the music, Stella Magna (headed by Tsutomu Narita himself), has been hosting a concert at Granblue Fes annually and you can see the energy in the band and the fanbase which is always a blast!

I also love The Same Blue Sky's composition(to me it captures Granblue's bravado and general cheerfulness perfectly) and Existence's solemn, but also boastful and reckless vibe
And honestly I think you'd probably have a blast listening to most of the GBVSR soundtrack as it puts many popular characters with vastly different backgrounds and themes in one place - there's pretty much something for everyone

The way I teared up as I digested through your review and listening to the tracks again. I've been a skyfarer for 6 years and counting, and I don't know why and how but Granblue really got me HOOKED. The artwork and music are fantastic, the (mobile) gameplay can be tedious and repetitive but upon reaching later battles or endgame bosses that needs you to actually plan and think of your actions for the battle is so satisfying.
Power of friendship is such a common trope but Granblue embraces AND empowers it. I feel the same way as you do, what more bliss in life is to defeat god as a young teenage captain of a crew who are your friends, and some who are already like family (shoutout to the main gang!).
Granblue Fantasy music never misses, whether its ambiance for the world or stories, or for battle. The remixes for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising are top notch, but yes holy hell... Relink's is PEAK!
With a new endgame boss upcoming in just two weeks, I hope you could do a review of his theme, "Zero"!

Relink has shown me what I've been wanting from a fantasy rpg for so long, there are many parts of ff16 I like, but there was parts that just soured my experience with it.
Pacing, long sidequests with not very good payoff except two, a weapon system that felt useless, skills that felt really balanced in the beginning quickly overshadowed by clearly better and easier options... no end game... no sense of everyone coming together to fight against their fate but leave it to the chosen one... and that might work for many, but just not for me... and relink satisfies so many boxes!
There's so much love put into the game, it feels more like final fantasy that I wanted. You can tell ff14 and ff16 influenced parts of this game, but the moment I fell in love was the last chapter and I said it would be so cool if "the two fight in the background" and immediately they said here you go! 😂 and the end game is soooo vast with content and builds so many fun characters to learn!
It's like ff and monster hunter had a kid and made me a happy uncle lol

it's using a chaos language (made-up language) of all the Six dragons existed on GBF (the webgame/gacha game). It was so mesmerizing and goosebump worthy in my opinion

I challenge you to make reaction videos to soundtracks from: Warhammer Rogue Trader; Disciples series; Legacy of Kain series; Tomb Raider Legend/Anniversary/Underworld (before square enix ruined everything); Armies of Exigo; Warhammer Dawn of War series; Neverwinter Nights series; Heroes of Might and Magic V; Dragon Age series; The Longest Journey/Dreamfall series! Enjoy, I'm sure you'll love 'em all.

I think something you've really nailed about Granblue and that was very present for me in the gacha and in Relink as well is that this is a world of high, HOPEFUL adventure. No matter how dark the night, the skies will blaze forth with the glorious dawn of friendship and love and joy. That's something I really love about Granblue Fantasy. I also have to shout out that Granblue has a pretty decent cast of overtly queer characters too! It's nice to see folks like me, LITERALLY like me, get to partake in this world of joy. Cagliostro as a trans woman, Katalina has a lesbian knight, I love seeing characters like them in a world like this. The skies are for everyone and they are a delight to behold

I've played the original Granblue Fantasy off and on since 2015 and the original had an amazing setting and music which felt like a true spiritual successor to Final Fantasy. It fills you with such an adventurous spirit. You should listen to some of the original songs!
e.g. the "Main Theme": ruclips.net/video/B9PcxkhqTnk/видео.html (a.k.a. the perfect main theme to a fantasy game)

I think this game objectively deserves nomination for "Best RPG" and "Best soundtrack" in the Game Awards this year. I know it's a long ways away still, but facts are facts.
Sadly, we all know it won't get ANY nominations for anything because no one in the West knows this franchise. And the West only picks "safe" things.

hahahahahahahahahaha the best is yet to come. Oh man, when I heard some of the endgame themes in this game. And ESEPCIALLY THE LAST ONE, with how they synced the music and the BGM to match with the theme they wanted to portray, and how they make sure you hear the lyrics when you play it. Oh man.

I remember randomly watching the anime and admiring the character art style and world but sadly not being into fighting games. So I was pretty happy when they announced this rpg game knowing the potential it had. It been a long development but it clearly exceeded all my expectations. The combat is fun with many characters who have diff play styles. The graphics and art is beautiful and the soundtrack for the fights is a banger. Sure parts of the story are full of tropes and can be generic but overall it’s just a good experience.

And the music, let me tell you that there's still new music even after you finish the main story l, the fire dragon msic took me by surprise actually 😂 is like and old school rpg song, and the increible combat system... bro that jus hit different, I'm felt like I was playing ff 9 for the first time, I just loved this game and I cant wait to see more upgrades of the tittle.

  • @ruthz9515

I didn't like the story at first because it was so cliche and predictable. But around chapter 7-8 forward I actually start rooting for them. There's just something so special about fighting a god with your bros. Then I got to chapter 10 and end of ragnarok start playing... I smiled a bit. I know for the fact that it was going to be classical music. But when that rock dropped and the vocal started going crazy I was in heaven. Sure the overall concept of the story is so cliche it ridiculous but every time a fight happens, the cutscenes, the ost and the fights are just so incredibly done. I could fight chapter 10 boss over and over again even without the quest reward. THAT FIGHT is the reward.

hating on the cliche without seeing the payoff is a dumb move anyway. the cliche is not worth it only if the payoff is nowhere near satisfying. but either way congrats on holding on and keeping yourself moving forward instead of backing off from the game completely

I have mixed feelings with Granblue's music. I feel like even if it has Uematsu's hand sometimes it takes too much from some iconic pieces from other games (Final Fantasy in particular). One piece even has a section that is note by note the same as Bombing Mission from FF7. I feel like sometimes it skims too close which gives me this usual gacha vibe of just take what works and smash it all together. The music is still awesome and the ending moments were some of the most epic I have played in a while. Just thought I'd point that out.

If you don't mind I would like to introduce some of the main Granblue Fantasy song because they are so old. But still very beautiful "Auguste Archipelago" (water island song) and "Nalhegrade" (another city song) and "What make the sky blue" (Archangel event theme?) I hope you guys like it.
