The irony of heavy metal is that kids who listened to metal were often perceived as violent and disturbed, when actually we lived vicariously through the music, and experienced catharsis through expressed rage. And we did it because, for the most part, we were non-violent people, and needed an outlet for negative emotions.
For me, I'd put on Slayer and after 30 minutes I'd find myself in a much more calm state of mind.
Metal is so good for a healthy outlet of anger and rage. Then we go back to our lives helping people with their finances hehe.
And there are proofs of that, check this recent study out: www.google.com/amp/s/www.loudersound.com/amp/news/study-finds-that-death-metal-makes-people-feel-joy-and-peace
Absolutely agree with syd Hamelin, the perception that metal music is bad and the cause of disorder is so wrong. In my experience all metalheads are lovely people. All rage is expressed through the music and it’s back to normal, calm life after the concert or whatever !
Also can get that release from being in a pit where get people from all backgrounds with different things going on in life in an environment where can unleash things surrounded by people in the main who want everyone to be safe and help each up if needed. No other music has the outlet for those emotions like metal does imo
@@rhyslewis4492 Yeah, metal pits weren't like punk pits. I miss being young haha. Going to a metal show, having the pit open up around you...man those were great days.
Very well put. Couldn't of said it better myself.
lombardo drum god mode activated.
In my opinion, I think 'South of Heaven' is the finest Lombardo's work but this is a great album as well \\m//
The drumming from dave lombardo
Got damm. So badass. Fuckin amazing
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@CharlieS76 agree 1 billion %
I was just listening to God hates us all, Paul is pretty sloppy on those double pedals if you ask me... Dave Lombardo is a true double bass God

PAUL B. . sounded pertty good with TESTAMENT. EXODUS. Forbidden
Slayer - South of Heaven
Slayer - Mandatory Suicide
Slayer - Dead Skin Mask

I would also say skeletons of society

Expendable youth!!
Watching Vin listen to War Ensemble for the first time, priceless.
Indeed. The lyric video left *a lot* to be desired for, though. *Rule #1 of Lyric Videos:* Have the lyrics spelled out CORRECTLY OR DON'T BOTHER DOING THE LYRIC VIDEO AT ALL. 😐 Because, what's the point if the lyrics are spelled incorrectly, hmm??? 🤔
@@GenMVeers even worse are the videos that get the lyrics wrong altogether! Put that much time and effort into it you might as well do a little research.
wow, cant beleive its there first time
Love this record, the perfect balance between Reign In Blood and South Of Heaven. Melodic but at the same time fast and heavy
Yassss bro!!
actually my favorite album from them.
ourworlds atwar is that why vulgar display of power has achieved 2X Platinum?
@ourworlds atwar lmfaooo I'm going to use that joke thanx for sharing.
There will never be anything close to another Jeff Hannemann.
Dave Lombardo on drums! That's a fucking metal legend at work.
Lol Vin was feeling the metal power! Keep your head up Vince I know these are rough times but pop some slayer in the speakers and let loose like that man! Cheers
The entire "Seasons In the Abyss" album is a masterpiece. Got to see em play it in its entirety once
Yeah, I saw that tour. With Megadeth doing Rust In Peace & Testament opening.
One Slayer song no one reacts to sticking to this theme: Ghosts of War. Easily in the top ten songs they ever did. Personally speaking might even be my top one. Covers absolutely everything that embodies prime Slayer.
Definitely on my top 10 Slayer songs. I just think it should be done together with Mandatory suicide -> Ghosts of war.
@@Ruhtinas84 same album so they might as well, both beasts.
oh yeah, that song is killer.
Hatebreed also did a great cover of Ghosts Of War
Yeah and they didn't really play it live either at least not on their final tour. I've would have liked to have heard it but y'know..
Hell Yeeeeeaaah! One of the best openers to any album ever 🤘🏻 Mandatory Suicide next maybe?
One of Hanneman's best.
Hanneman wrote 3/4 of Slayer's masterpieces, too bad Vin seems to ignore Jeff entirely and thinks all solos are King's...although, that song has one of King's best most recognizable solo. Incredible song writer/rhythm guitarist, but as Tom Araya said after Jeff's death...when they were hanging by a thread not sure if they were going to continue, "Slayer was 95% Jeff".
I'm so glad I got to see Slayer on their final tour. I saw them with Napalm Death, Testament, Anthrax, and Lamb of God. That was one hell of a show!
I saw them in VA with Ministry, Phil Anselmo and Primus. Epic show.
Yea i seen them in brisbane australia. Such a good show it and it was outside and during angel of death and raining blood it actually started raining.
NGL...this comment did not age well. :p
Best Slayer song ever. They are telling the hard truth. War is hell. There's no honour just death and pain. Totally anti-war. The war support is irony.
Violence is mental laziness. Well said.
As is religion...
...4 U2...that's best, maybe.
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SLAYER SONG!!! This is the very first song I heard from them when I was 16. I’m 39 now and I still blast it in my car. This song will never get old 🤘🏼
"violence is mental laziness." Vin, that just blew my mind bro.
What blew my mind was dude pretending to be a Christian, listening to Slayer as a guilty pleasure to satiate his appetite for violence, and then completely missing the point and thinking he's smart by avoiding the fact that Slayer is anti-war and anti-violence.
Happy Easter!
I'm so glad you've finally got around to reacting to this song. It's the song that I first heard by Slayer and it was a great inroduction to the band. First time I seen them do it live in concert I was just going nuts! But that was back in the 1990's. Anyway, even though Slayer have retired, we still have their recordings to remind us of how great they were.
funny enough this was the song got me hooked on slayer i had heard them before this but nothing grabbed me i didnt here reign in blood to 94 if i had would been a whole different story sooooooooooooooo fast first time i seen them live this was the 3th song and i think they where still ajusting the sound as the next song was jihad and it was 10 times louder
Slayer- At Dawn They Sleep
facts this song is so good
From the Live Intrusion video
Glorious!!
You guys are awesome. My favorite slayer song of all time. I don't listen to alot of heavy heavy shit. But when i do I put Slayer on. Much respect. Sincerely a new subscriber now. And congrats on the baby. May your child be healthy and awesome as you guys.
Incredible thrash song from an incredible thrash band. One of my favorites.
Fantastic. Metal is the vehicle that can let let you take out the violence that you would like to do (sometimes) without actually hurting anyone...You get it Vin.
Slayer sound = Real meaning of chaos.
For next reaction please do "Down - Bury me in smoke".
I gotta say...I think this is probably my favorite reaction video...of any genre...of any type of entertainment on RUclips. Vin, your reaction to this is everything us fans hope for. We get it. Because I think we all had the very same reaction our first time. It's just one of those songs that brings out the aggression...but in a good way. This reaction is just as good every time I come back to it. And Sori...you're reactions of shock to Vins reactions are priceless!!!
The way I've always interpreted this song is as with many Slayer songs, they show the evils of humanity without glorifying or condemning it but instead shoving it in your face and making you deal with it. In this case, they contrast the horrors and evil of warfare with the way it is presented as being glorious, none more so than the Nazi regime during WWII, hence the German imagery.
Still probably my favorite Slayer song
Slayer - South of Heaven
Pantera - Art of Shredding
Slayer is one of the most important Heavy Metal bands in the whole history of Heavy Metal music. They have influenced so many bands. I love their whole catalog, but their first six albums in my opinion are legendary which includes Divine Intervention. Their third album Reign In Blood is considered to be the first extreme Heavy Metal album and their greatest. It is a MASTERPIECE, but my favorite has always been their first album Show No Mercy. It is the first album I ever listened to from Slayer back in the mid 80's as a little kid. The production on the album is not the best, but the songs are amazing to me. Slayer has always been a very special band to me, and they will always be. Metallica gets all the credit, but in my opinion Slayer was just as important to the Heavy Metal movement back in the 80's.
Vin's excitement and energy gave me nostalgia for when I first heard metal. Such a good outlet for locked up emotions
BIG V! You rock & I consider you my brother because someday we’ll be in GLORY FOREVER my friend.
My all time favorite song, there's no way one can just stand idle while listening to this
Slayer - dead skin mask
thats a slow metal song like Walk and its one of the best slow metal tunes ever.

Haha!! "Where has this song been all my life?!?!" Fucking awesome. Love you guys. Slayer Rules!
One of Slayers best for sure...super heavy and fast. WAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!
That's the beauty of metal! You can let your rage out, and no one gets hurt. Belief in god (which I don't) doesn't matter, rise above... Keep it cool Vin :) your a better person than you think. I don't know how I'd react if I was a Black person in the USA right now and I can't even put myself in those shoes, but as a white Australian I'm quite upset and angry at what's going on over there atm.
PS
I'm actually aware that Maine is quite a distance from Minnesota... love you guys, and your content.
PSS
Just in case your wondering, I've been off the meth now for 16 months!
Sori reacting to Vinnie's reactions throughout the song was hilarious, almost better than the actual overall song reaction itself lol
I love it when she's listening to Vin's soapbox and her expression is like "I don't know about that..."
You should try listening to a live version. When Tom Araya screams at the top of his lungs “war ensemble “ ,you know it’s on!
I feel like this song is an interesting reflection on violent society, especially when it comes to America in general. Interesting point is Tom Araya, the singer, is a devout Roman Catholic. The thing with Slayer is they tend to sing and express points of history and society that no one wants to look at. Thinking of the idea of this video I cannot help but think of the times we read in the Bible when God says he will go in front of the Israelites and smite their enemies because of them being the chosen people of God.
When it comes to modern culture we look at war as an agenda. War is a sport and to the victory goes the spoils, but we do not think of the cost. Great video and reaction, guys!
@CaRaised NcLiving oh for sure man. They definitely spoke on some pretty violent stuff from the past, also exemplified in Angel of Death.
Have to appreciate Vin's honesty on everything touched on in this video.
"People mistake exposure to glorification, we just show them what's really happening, they should be offended, but not by us."
Tom Araya
Slayer - Skeletons of Society
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Skeletons Of Society
or
Behind The Crooked Cross
oh yer this song would rock live its got that kind of riff
yeeees! Even Sori would dig it!
Jihad? Or is that a sensitive matter?
@@Roller4x4 they reacted to Jihad already.
Slayer is always cathartic. I'm so glad I had them as a teen, else I would have been a very violent individual. People think that violent music makes a person more violent (I know my mom did), but in my experience, it was always the opposite. If you are still in the mood for more Slayer songs about war or just violence in general, like I am now after watching this, try Mandatory Suicide, Ghosts of War, World Painted Blood, Flesh Storm, Killing Fields, Threshold, Exile, Payback, Warzone, Chemical Warfare, I could go on. There are a lot.
it the music that makes you violent it your way of thinking
Killing fields or ghosts of war would be the perfect follow up.
I remember Kerry himself stating in an interview that he'd be very violent irl if he didn't have an outlet in the provocative music of Slayer!
damn dude that lists a bit short you left a few out try these final command/show no mercy/die by the sword/the antichrist/praise of death/necrophiliac/hardening/reign in blood(FA)
silent scream/clense the soul/spirits in black/hallow point/temptation/dittohead/ss3/serenity is murder/mind control/point/scrum/payback/jihad/cult/supremist i missed a album the covers cant stand you/guilty of being white/violent pacifacation/verbul abuse/fillers/disorder/unit 731/beauty through disorder/not of this god/take control/you against you
Bitter Peace, Hallowed Point, Love To Hate, Point, Unit 731, Beauty Through Order, At Dawn They Sleep, Killing Field, Sex.Murder.Art, Dittohead. But I'd really like to see them react to the "ballad" by Slayer's meter, "Divine Intervention", the lyrics are from Tom and Jeff on that one and it shows. Still portrays the christian god as an evil demigod, which gnostic christians agree he is anyways, but it is an incredibly powerful song and man, the solos, 2 by King followed by 2 by Hanneman and he can't say shit about those solos, they are incredible and some of their best ones.
SEPULTRA Bro "Choas AD , or Refuse resist"!!
And Propaganda & Territory
Dealing with an undisputed masterpiece here ;)

Peace, you gorgeous bastards!
I am so surprised by your reaction to this.ive held of watching it because I thought I was for sure you wouldn't like it. Favorite reaction vid from you guys .
love your reactions. I look at Metal, as a whole, like a comic book ,sci fi or horror movie...that's literally what it is in regards to content ,stories and feeling. Once you get that in your head, none of it seems really "offensive" or scary at all. There are some exceptions, but the majority of it is entertainment and just goofiness. cheers peeps
You love SlayeR more each time. You are been captured by Slayer Thrash Metal music, haha. Me too, from long time.
SlayeR is a top band. They have a special energy. You seems that have discovered it. Congratulations!!
React to Sepultura - Arise ( Live Under Siege Barcelona - 1991) you'll see Igor Cavalera in his prime
And Refuse/Resist, Propaganda, and Territory you know for sake of the situations we’re living through
that concert is insane
Slayer: songs against war that make you want to go out to war!
War Ensemble is the song that actually got me into Slayer. Up late watching Headbangers ball 1990, and this came on. I was 15 so my parents forbid me from listening to any heavy metal so the following week I went to a friend's house and put my Boombox up next to the TV speaker and recorded it. I think it's the only song I listened to for the next month at least SLLLLAAAAYYYYEEEERRRRR!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
hahaha, i LOVED vins reaction to this record , one of slayers best tracks in my opinion
the WAR is in the Christians blood
SABAOTH approves!!!!!
"Violence is mental laziness" should be a shirt. Great quote! I'll be using that from now on. Especially as a Christian Conservative in America
More Slayer please - this will will keep you busy for long enough!
No matter what mood I'm in or how bad my day is going music has always been there for me and metal is my music of choice. It clams me down and puts a smile on my face just like my dogs. No matter how bad I screw up their always happy to see me and heavy metal does the same.
Strangely this is one of my lesser favorites by them but I can still jam to it. Especially watching Vin react to it, actually gave me goosebumps! This is why I watch these reactions~
This album....cover to cover kills! War ensemble is just the opening track. Give expendable youth a go!
I feel like Vin, I don't like violence, and it doesn' solve anything. But sometimes you just have to. Other people won't let you.
One of the most uncompromising energetic songs of all time. Can't count how often I screamed along with it and the feeling after the song ended. Slayer understands. Thank you Slayer for clearing my mind.
A good jam for when you lost cause you got jumped by bullies, or won cause you fought one on one; something to stew Alone in a silent rage, or just relish victory, too! Nice reaction.
Vin is slowly slipping to the dark side. Welcome brother.
Vin: what did you think of this song
Sori: I am a baby factory!
Gave a Lyft ride to a young man that was obviously a tweeker. He asked what I thought of the band Slayer. I told him I loved their music but can't roll with their lyrics. The following conversation is what happened....
"Yeah, I guess they are kind of dark huh?"
"Well, that, and besides, how many songs can you write praising a snitch?"
"What do you mean man?"
"The name Satan... it means accuser. What does it mean to accuse someone? It means you are snitching on them."
"Why you gotta put it like that man?"
"That's how it is. Don't you know? He comes to you. Talks you into doing stuff you have no business doing. As soon as you do, he runs to God and says, 'See what he just did? You have to punish him, IF you are the righteous judge you say that you are!"
As he's getting out of the car, he goes...
"That's deep man! I'm gonna go drop some acid and think about it." I can't even imagine what that trip was like.
This song is so appropriate for what's happening in our country do to certain events just passed.Vin watch the video one time all you need is one time, its crazy😡.On another note,Fuckin SSLLAAAYYYEEERRR🤘
Hell Ya!!!.... Saw these guys in I believe 1993. they were supposed to play the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City. The promotor had no idea how many tickets they would sale. They had to move it to the OK City Fairgrounds. Total Sale Out... Testament was the opening band. We all walked out bloodied from head to toe. The largest moshpit I"ve ever been in. It was unbelievable. Never forget it. I was there with my drum teacher at the time. He yelled to Dave Lombardo. "Play some Jazz" sure enough he broke into some jazz riffs for about a minute.. The whole show was magnificently brutal!!! Thanks for playing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not too many understand what USA is doing around the globe. They just believe what they are told in media. For example not many know what is the USA's role in middle east and why so many hate USA. How would you feel if someone came to your state and say "This is the way you are going to live now and there's nothing you can do about it"?
And Sori's look at 18:13 :D
This is one of your best videos. Thank you.
VIN REALLY FEELS THE SONG !!!!!
ALICE IN CHAINS - GET BORN AGAIN
“Sat suffering, I knew him when

Try not to think, I merely blink
Hope you wish away the lies
Can you protect
Me when I'm wrecked
I pretend you're still alive-ive
Yeah
Who will deny
All in time
All the lies
Who will deny
All in time
All the lies
I choose the day, one damp and gray
Thick fog that hide our smiles
Clear all your sins
Get born again
Just repeat a couple lines-ines
Lines
Yeah, yeah...”
Hell yeah Slayer!!
"Vins scary" best ending comment ever. You must have been a very dark place man, I'm super happy you got out of that hole. Cuz it really is like you're surrounding on all sides by these walls that you yourself have made... like Yeah, they influenced you to make them but they didnt put that emotion in your head ya know? You saw it and decided to get mad so controlling that fury is key. Some people dont get out of it man. Some people just get out of the hole and dont close it up ya know? it's always there just waiting for them to get back in the foxhole

Vin ... you now know why I listen to slayer among other bands like it. It helps you vent as well as so much more. They speak on it not in advocacy, but spotlighting the subject. I don't want to hear about fluffy bunnies or whatever if I am angry/ upset. I want to hear some one else knows about it and understands my perspective, or at least contemplated the subject as I see it. ... anyway. If you ever need to talk or vent I have an ear as well as suggestions for music. Peace
Absolutely my favorite Slayers song!

Think this way: when people say: what don't kill you make you strong. It is true sometimes. For that one of the greatest countries on an planet to keep evolving and going up, each step it takes, each ladder it climbs, it will be significantly harder then it was 100 years ago--even just a slight step! --and it continues to get more difficult. For one to truly become the greatest, he/she/it must face and overcome the greatest threat and obstacle humanity has ever faced, pass this level, you are the top one. So I would feel privileged to face such sufferings ,tranquillity will get you nowhere fast.
Normal well adjusted adults are unnerved and intimidated by the dark creative power of slayer. Slayer is a band that depicts the true reality of life.
SLAYER......fastest LIKE Klick ever!.....NOTHING was/is/will ever be comparable to them !!!!
