Can we all pause for a moment and appreciate the hard work that Don put into this? I can't imagine how much painstaking cataloguing, editing, and of course the recording itself over many years, it took to give us this masterfully made video. If he hadn't done it, no one else would have, and this beautiful recurring segment/time capsule would have been lost. At best we'd get a 10 minute excerpt on an official channel. So thank you to Don for compiling and uploading this, it brought me so much joy, and made me nostalgic for a time I don't even remember.
I’m 38 and always been a big Conan fan. I liked Letterman but never understood why people I love like Stern and Norm said Letterman was the best until I started watching this RUclips channel. Thanks Don Giller for enlightening me! This stuff is great and has to be a lot of work.
Without Dave, there wouldn’t have been Conan. I don’t mean that Dave’s bent sense of humor blazed the trail for Conan, I mean that Dave was instrumental in Conan’s parents meeting.
letterman is so far beyond conan in the show talker's art it's not even a discussion but he falls short of the title of comic thanks to politics. his brand of absurdity calls for going all the way but he gets strangely solemn just when you want him to take the step for true freedom. ultimately he's just an idiot. he could have been a legend.
I was 4 when this was all happening. This glimpse at humans before the internet diluted us is so amazing and genuine. This is an important part of human history. Thank you for compiling this for us.
Do you really notice that much of a difference? I guess I am immune to it since this was my 20's. There were plenty of negatives to that time just as there are to today.
A visit with Meg was one of the highlights of this era. She was game for most of Dave's shenanigans, including marching bands, impromptu weddings, and dangling things out of a 13th story NYC window, all with class and charm.
Well I’m halfway into Part 2 and I’m gonna quit. She’s like the sweet woman I never met so why remind myself of my regrets? I was fine before I started LOL
Well...Part 2 completed...let´s go for Part 3...This is ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE!!!! And this comment coming from a non american, non native english speaker and almost 30 years after all this happened, it may give a good idea of how good and well thought was all this stuff about Meg Parsont and her collaboration in the show. Mixing TV and reality that way is one of the BEST EVER practical ideas some gifted mind had to boost audience for a TV-show. Absolutely amazing!!! And that woman was really way over any Miss America from the past and future. She handled the whole thing with such elegance and good attitude...Tony did a big mistake not keeping that keeper.
Listen to that crowd. It's literally the sound of a generational shift in media/entertainment/comedy -- and everyone suddenly noticing at the exact same time. Dave cracked open the "late-night talk show" code-gleefully twisting everything (and everybody) to his liking. It's an absolute thrill to watch. His "I love you, Meg!," -and constant focus on her looks-made things awkward, of course, but that's where we were in the '90s...unfortunately. Thanks for posting!
I'm so happy to see these. I love that you left so much of the rest of the shows in. There are plenty of Letterman highlight vids, and interviews with various celebrities, but this really takes me back to why the show was so much fun. Thank you for posting!
My favorite part of this is picturing the front desk at Simon and Schuster when a wedding party, a guy with a sac of nerf balls, or Billy Dee Williams shows up. "Oh, God. Dave's calling again."
It's amazing how if she had been almost anyone else with almost any other style of personality and or locks, it wouldn't have been that marriage made in heaven/"perfect storm" of looks, personality, innocence with enough intelligence to keep everything interesting. Would be so cool to see an interview with her in 2019!
It’s also a testament of what you could do back in the 80s that weenies would probably have a problem with today. That really doesn’t matter because no one has anything remotely like that show now. It’s really a one of a kind, original format that no one has been able to emulate well or even remotely equal.
Agreed. This is why I question whether she really was a random choice. If they'd gotten some middle aged boring male executive, it wouldn't have been worth doing more than one instance. But she's perfect, so I think they probably picked her. Either way, it's really fun to watch.
@@itsmedrooms6071 Totally agreed. Dave hits on her a lot, but it's all in good fun. You definitely couldn't do that today. So much of what they did in late night, sitcoms, comedy, etc. then you couldn't do now, that's why comedy in general is not as good now.
Don, you are the best! I'm on vacation starting today, and its 71 degrees in beautiful sunny Connecticut, and I cant stop watching these! Thank you buddy for brightening up my day!!!

What an amazing idea for a recurring segment. Comedy was just better then. I've been binge watching SNL from that era and, again, it's much better than today.
