I used to work at the same company as Meg when she was at a different employer. So nice to see the videos on RUclips, I was kind of shocked when RUclips suggested them to me. I do recall I brought my toddler in to work one day and he was quite entranced by her and remembered her long after. Worked with her at least a year before someone told me that she was the girl across the street on Letterman.
Really enjoyed this three part collection from the Tonight Show, over here in the UK 30 years later. If Meg ever sees this post I would like to say to her, "You are a lovely person and I wish you well, in all that you do. Thanks for being such a sport, we miss you..."

I also watched all five of the Teri Garr and Dave collection videos, twice. I really enjoyed those too, and several others. Thanks again!
well after watching all the parts, I have to say thank you, man. I was born in 2000 so I didn't grow up with Letterman but my god I see why people like Conan and Norm Macdonald look up to him, and i think i found my type of girl, i love meg!
His daytime talk show in 1980 (The Letterman Show, prior to "Late Night") was even more goofy in the same way with running gags, recurring themes, peripheral characters, etc. It didn't work well as a daytime show so NBC offered him a nighttime slot ('82 - '93). As he got older he got grumpier (don't we all?) and less energetic and adventuresome on his show.
I was wondering if Dave ever got in touch with Meg after her last appearance on the show. You'd think that he'd want to check in with her now and then to see how she was doing. I really enjoyed revisiting these entertaining and oddly touching moments from the show. Watching them all back-to-back was truly a blast from the past!
He wasn’t interested in how she was doing. This is all just a white privileged man indulging a voyeuristic perversion and throwing money around, all enabled by the whooping approval of a white audience. It’s sordid.
@@maxmerton Acceptability, at least in this case, is based on opinion and preference. In my opinion, Letterman was fascinated by Parsont's incredible intelligence and autonomy. I can't see any other reason why he spent three years giving her a special place in his program. Focusing on the fact of his being white or being privileged is in this case not the core of what is happening. It is valuable to see how an intelligent and self-possessed woman is being respected and given a public audience so that old prejudices have a chance to wither in the face of excellent example.

The man was without doubt unable to tackle the simplest of tasks. He should be very thankful for his talent because he would have starved to death if he had to get a traditional job. 😆
It's been an absolute joy watching "the Meg Years". Dave always had an electric chemistry with certain females (Connie Chung, Terri Garr) . It's really a shame the current crop of late night hosts can't come within a mile of something this entertaining and endearing.
Because no individual - woman or otherwise - is likely worth staking a career on the gamble at that level. Furthermore, there's often no definitive way to tell if you're getting on someone's nerves until (usually) "she" is pointedly annoyed, and by then it's "too late". Don't blame the hosts.lol

Ok, I know it was Dave's move to the Ed Sullivan Theater that ultimately doomed the running bit, but it's still amusing to me that Tony finally turning up in person also marked the last time we ever saw Meg. Also amusing to me is that years later, Tony would no longer be in the picture and Meg ended up marrying a guy named Dave.
I was around 15 when I saw Meg on Letterman. 30 years later, as I was surfing RUclips and saw “Meg on Letterman,” I was immediately taken back. I didn’t realize Meg had made that deep of an impression on me. Well, where ever she is, hope she had and is have a good one. The romantic in me hopes she and Tony ties the knot too.
Dave's NBC show was the absolutely the best!! I miss this show and would sure like to see it in re-runs. Here on the west coast there was a channel called TRIO and they ran the show for a while but the channel disappeared . I wonder if we'll ever see it?
I remember clearly that Meg was invited onto WNBC's "Live at Five" around this time. Sue Simmons was particularly vicious in reminding young Meg that she wasn't a big deal and was just a civilian who got lucky. She seemed to acknowledge her own meanness by segment end, but tears couldn't have been far off from her guest.. That alone would have been enough to end the innocence that informed this wonderful running bit. I remember the birthday marching band segment with particular fondness as I lived only blocks away. This was very much like 50's television with some hip revisions.
@@dongiller Aw. I was hoping you might have it. I remember Sue, noting the wounds she had administered, saying something akin to "We in broadcasting can be mean...". Big help, Sue. It was actually a little shocking.

After watching this i figured out who Meg sounds like
Ione Skye from the movie Say Anything
It's hard to believe that the guy who Meg ended up marrying was Steve Mancusi: Police Sketch Artist.
I enjoyed all of it. Big fan of Meg. Just because you are rich and famous does not mean you’re not a nice guy.
Is it just because I'm a dad to girls that I think her wave is adorable?
Childless here and just as charmed.

And it's over :(
Ok, I know it was Dave's move to the Ed Sullivan Theater that ultimately doomed the running bit, but it's still amusing to me that Tony finally turning up in person also marked the last time we ever saw Meg. Also amusing to me is that years later, Tony would no longer be in the picture and Meg ended up marrying a guy named Dave.
Whoops. My mistake. Her husband's name is Daniel.
That's what I wanted to know!
Happy Birthday Meg!
Dave's NBC show was the absolutely the best!! I miss this show and would sure like to see it in re-runs. Here on the west coast there was a channel called TRIO and they ran the show for a while but the channel disappeared . I wonder if we'll ever see it?
The first drawing should have turned out to be a caricature of Dave. That would have been funny.
7 hours of Meg Parsont . A cure for any ailment.
Wow. Had I known of her Live at Five appearance, I would have recorded and included it here.
@@dongiller Aw. I was hoping you might have it. I remember Sue, noting the wounds she had administered, saying something akin to "We in broadcasting can be mean...". Big help, Sue. It was actually a little shocking.
I’ll doublecheck my tape logs, but we’re talking 4 years of searches.
Maybe WNBC itself might be a resource. I think Sue was a little Jealous.
As the kids say, good luck with that.
Thank you for posting these videos about Dave and Meg! I loved every minute of it!
P.S. Could you compile all the videos of Dave and Julia Roberts, that would be nice!!!
I put up her first and last appearances here - ruclips.net/video/OC1RltmhDfs/видео.html
@@dongiller I already saw that, I meant was ALL her (Julia Roberts) appearances in Dave's Late Night/Show like you did with the Meg Parsont videos.
Yes, I know. We’ll see. I’m usually not too fond of spending an enormous amount of time and energy satisfying one person’s desire to see a celebrity compilation. Especially at these prices.
@@dongiller I was only suggesting, besides you got tons of other videos of Dave which I'm very fond of! 😀
Well, you do you man, and again I appreciate all the videos of Dave's shows you compiled over the years!
