I had a family member in my father's side. At first I asked him if he could teach me how to chess, and so he did. At first I didn't think of it being a big thing to me but when I heard that he has cancer ...I was frozen and in tears. I never had the time back then to play chess with him because of my studies. Then I found you. A person who was became a teacher, a comedian, a brother, a friend who showed me TONS of chess players including himself playing against grand master. At my cousin's funeral I brought the chessboard where he taught me some moves and all of my games on that board: I won. After that I never stopped watching your videos. I really hope someday I could be better that I am right now and you have helped me in familiarizing chess and it's tricks. I hope that I could meet you someday in person but for now I wish you the best. Thank you Mr. Mato ^^

His chess lessons have something different on what i see on the internet dude. He gives meaning to every game. He gives me the passion to continue playing it. your assumption of mato saving my life is wrong. He didn't save me, he just gave meaning to a game that I didn't fully understand and valued.

    • @oper8889
      @oper8889 8 лет назад

Mato presented some games (which were readily accessible anyway), "he didn't save your life"
Gosh, "you act like Mato saved your life"
yeah you didn't say it. Just let this conflict side so that we don't make this an issue

Oh man, mato holds a special place in my heart. I've worked night shifts for the last 4 years and I can't recall how many times I've gone on my break, bought some taco bell, and ate it in my car while watching his videos. His lectures are concise and entertaining. He always covered the best games and didn't bog the viewer with endless variations. Sure, maybe the videos weren't the most instructive but there are countless channels that offer videos of that nature, most notably kingcrusher and scholastic chess club. I liked the simplicity of his videos; the merits of many of the moves in top level games are self explanatory when you see the outcome. He will surely be missed.
I liken this feeling to when a good friend moves cross country.
Thank you for all your videos over the years Mato!

Mato, this is a honest comment from a big fan.
I used to admire chess as the best and fairest of challenges, but I always tought it was only for some unique geniuses that see 20 moves ahead.
After discovering your channel, I fell in love. I played 0 games before. In these years, I've played around a thousand chess games, and I still love the game, altough being medium/bad at it.
I always find myself in the middle game thinking something like this: "ok I've lined up my bishops against his king, my knight is close, I can sacrifice some pieces to get to it and I know I'm in a winning position cause I've seen something similar on Mato videos so many times... what would those great GMs do now."
Literally all my chess knowledge comes from either direct experience or you.
I've been watching the new videos in the evening before going to bed every night, and it has been giving me a lot of peace over the years.
I'm really sad to see you stop, but I can only thank you and good luck for everything in your life. You've been a friend over the years.

Thank you for introducing me to an entire new world only made of up black and white, for all this time I have known legends like Alekhine, Morphy, Capablanca, Keres and especially Tal through you and I shall remain indebted for the same. I am no great player of Chess but I am learning to play because I started watching your videos, thank you for making it exciting, making me appreciate the silence shared by two minds sitting across the board, thank you for making me understand the beauty of a cold war. You are my teacher and I shall continue to learn from you. You shall be missed......
with a tear in the eye and
a wish of not saying you goodbye......
Thanks a lot Master. May the force be with you.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your years of patient and persistent instruction.
I have profited from your efforts: I used to play very timidly, but now I play more boldly. Sacrifices are no longer unthinkable. (When I play against a computer, it's often surprised when I deliberately sacrifice the exchange in order to open a file.)
This last series (on Alekhine's games) was especially helpful. Previously, when Mato asked his students to find the "killer move", it was merely a matter of finding the sacrifice. But during the Alekhine series, that was no longer true, and one had to think harder -- and so one learned more.
Well, at least we have your game analyses -- and there are a lot of them -- to study and learn from.
Frankly, I'm not surprised that you decided to stop producing videos. You were producing as many as one or two per day. I couldn't understand how you could maintain such a grinding pace. And it must be discouraging to devote so much time and effort to producing your videos, and nevertheless to have people complain about them.
Again, sincere thanks for your years of hard work. This humble patzer appreciates your labors. Thanks to you, I believe that I could now defeat anyone on my street.
Best wishes to you and may your future be a bright, prosperous, and healthy one. God bless you.
    Sincerely, Kevin Byrne

Thanks for the memories, Mato. You gave us a nice mix of brilliant chess, laid back commentary, and just enough analysis to make it all worthwhile. I consider watching your videos as time well spent, and wish you all the best in everything you do.

Thank you for the time and effort Mato, the lectures have been great and rekindled my interest in chess over 20 years since I had ceased playing. If this is your last video, then good luck for the future, take care, it has been fun learning from you.

Sad to see you go Mato, I love your videos. Very learning and very funny! I must say it has been most intresting to see the games of Tal and of Alekhine, I am sure I learned a few tricks along the road. Thank you for making excellent videos.

    Dear Mato,
I have been watching your lecture for more than five years, I learned so much from you not just chess but to be an honest and humorous person. your videos are kind of addictions and now I am afraid to have withdrawal effects. please do at least 10 more videos so that I could die in peace.
thanks for your videos and sense of humor.

I know you like to joke around Mato- and I hope that this is one of your great tricks! But if it is not I want to thank you so much for all you have done. You brought so much more joy and understanding to the game I already loved. You had a very real impact on chess culture- and brought many aspects and subtleties of the game to many of us who may have never seen it otherwise. I feel a genuine warmth in my heart for you. Best wishes to you and your family! Thank you Mato- from the bottom of my heart. You are a wonderful man.
